  1. OK midtnblu, that brings some clarity to what happened and is the best explanation I have heard from anyone. After the foul was called, everyone went to half court while the foul shots were attempted. However, everyone I have talked to doesn't mention that the official said he was disqualified. Now the coach should know that rule, but this very well could be the first time he has had a player called for a flagrant foul(I still don't think it was a flagrant foul). It seems like the official should have to tell the coach and player that he is disqualified. The player continued to play and was fouled at which point the official says "What are you doing? You are disqualified." At which point, he sat down. I don't think he signalled a tech at this point. Another player shot his free throws. But no technical free throws were shot. If the 2 games supension is the result of the 2nd technical, why no free throws for the technical. From what you say, it sounds like this oficial definitely needs to go back to ref school and calling rec games.
  2. Briefly, the MJCA player rebounded the ball, brought it up to his chin, turned to make the outlet pass and was called for throwing an elbow.
  3. senator, just because you never heard of it, doesn't make it true. Elaborate on how TSSAA has it clearly defined. I asked TSSAA where the line is and was told that it is the judgement of the official. While I believe that most officials do their best to call a fair, consistent game, most wouldn't claim to not make a mistake once in awhile. My concern is that the standard is a subjective one and there is no appeal. No, I wouldn't want the coaches to make the call. The official should make the call, but I think there should be a clear delineation of when a foul is flagrant. And an appeal process should be in place.
  4. I had never thought much about this. I assumed incorrectly that TSSAA had guidelines for officials to determine when a foul was flagrant, but it turns out that it is strictly up to the official. If one official thinks that a foul is flagrant, even if no one else would, the player is ejected immediately with an automatic 2 game suspension to follow. And there is no appeal process, because it is a judgement call. What are your thoughts on this and are you comfortable with the possibility of losing a key player for 3 games based on one official's opinion?
  5. Thanks for the sentiment. It's a shame that an official can make a call on one play and a player is suspended for 2 games and there is virtually nothing that you can do about it, because it is a judgement call. He was making an outlet pass and turned with the ball under his chin to throw the ball and the USN player was there. I don't know if he made contact, but the player didn't leave the game. In the girls game, a USN player punched a MJCA player during a pause in play, broke her nose in 2 places, chipped a tooth, required 5 stitches and she got the same suspension. Oh and later she showed up in the same ER, because her hand was hurt.
  6. When I posted about the top 4 teams being MJCA, Ezell, DCA and FRA being the top 4 and playing for seeding, I wasn't saying that MJCA was the best team. I also said USN could play back in, but they had to win a lot of games with over half of their region schedule remaining. I also think Ross will add to a tough USN team when he can play. He played well at DCA last year for sure. As for MJCA's schedule, it has been weak up until now and I wish we had played some tougher teams. Our opponents have won 26.2% of their games according to CoachT. But you play the schedule you got. But what about these: Lausanne 35.4% Ezell 39.7% St. George's 39.9% USJ 40.9% ECS 42.4% And the toughest are: Riverside 75% Rossville 59.2% Harding 59% King's 55.5% Webb(Knoxville) 55.4% I don't hear people saying that the only reason Lausanne, Ezell, St. George's or ECS are at the top of the standings is their weak schedules. Or that Riverside is a lot better than their record indicates. DCA has played one of the tougher schedules and has beaten FRA and Ezell and have earned bragging rights. But there are still some tough games to be played and each one is important. Good Luck Saints tomorrow and Monday. I wish Ben could play.
  7. As of right now, Ben Wankel is suspended for the DCA(Friday) and Ezell(Monday) games. I was looking forward to seeing where we stood with them, but I guess that will have to wait.
  8. SmokeStack, contrary to what LittleENS said, I never said that MJCA had arrived. But that they were among the top teams(beat everyone behind them, except USN) and that this week was key to how good they were. We would have had a better idea, if the Ezell game had been played as scheduled, but it was postponed. If Ben had played the whole game, instead of sitting most of the first, I think we would have won last night. Having 17 points/game on the bench for most of the game doesn't help. And since 1 referee decided to call a flagrant foul for what is generally a no call or just a foul, we will have to play DCA & Ezell without Ben, unless we can win an appeal. But he'll be back for FRA.
  9. Thanks I appreciate your opinion too. I'll try to look you up when we play.
  10. It looks like you have a good list, but what do I know? As LittleENS said on the other forum, I don't have the real knowledge to have an opinion. LOL
  11. LittleENS, sorry for having an opinion. I guess only people who don't know the difference between hear and here or there and their have the intelligence and real knowledge to post here. Wankel is not their "savior", just another piece to a good team which did lose to USN and Wankel was ejected over a "flagrant" foul that was very questionable. Actually, it sounds like you are the one who is unhappy with your life. Maybe you ought to take your own advice. It seems like geeman and I are pretty happy with our lives.
  12. Well geeman, MJCA went to USN tonight. Ben picked up 2 fouls in the first couple of minutes and sat the rest of the first half. Trailed 19-12 at the half. Came out and took the lead in the 3rd, but USN took the lead for good before the 3rd was finished, 28-24. We fouled them down the stretch and they made their FTs and pulled away. If Ben had played more and we had shot better, I think we could have pulled it out. USN is well coached and plays tough defense. Nilan played well. Up next DCA.
  13. Looking for a moral victory? Smyrna played them closer, losing by only 14. Stalling to keep the score down is pretty weak. Blackman has good talent and good size. It seems like Wortman could come up with a better plan than this.
  14. geeman, I feel like the 4 at the top, MJCA, FRA, DCA & EHCS have separated themselves from the rest, just a matter of settling the seeding for post-season. I understand that the top 4 get first round byes. Is that correct? With 7 games to play and depending on when Ross Welch becomes eligible, USN could still play their way back in, but it would have to be quite a run. Don't see either Webb catching up. We should have a lot of answers by February 1st. Any word on when the FRA-EHCS game will be made up?
  15. 5 Big games coming up for the leaders: Tuesday,DCA at FRA Friday,MJCA at DCA Monday,Ezell at MJCA Tuesday,FRA at MJCA Postponed-TBD,FRA at Ezell Saints are playing well but this will be a challenge for them.
