  1. Hey Everyone

I just resigned as head wrestling coach at Centennial High School. This is a great program and has been pretty consistent over the years and has all but 2 starters returning as well as some decent jv guys. We have a smaller wrestling room but there are talks about it being expanded in 2 years. We have 3 mats now and are in the process are ordering a brand new one. We have a few open positions at the school now and more to come in the following weeks.

I want to thank everyone for the friendship over the years and the fun battles we have had. Best of luck to everyone this summer and next season and I will definitely see you guys on the mats.

Who did the "best job" can really only mean one thing in athletics.

At this point if you pass it out to everybody its just a participation trophy.

According to that logic the NFL has passed out the Coach of the Year award to the wrong coach almost every year.

Im pretty sure people on this site care about the award more than the coaches though.

Does Grassland not have a middle school wrestling team?  I know they are a feeder school into Franklin High, but are not familiar enough to know what all sports in which they participate.

I was just saying Grassland has a smaller middle school team with less kids on it than the other two. I believe Mill Creek and Spring Station are two of the better middle school teams around the mid state for sure. Again all 3 candidates were very deserving this year,

Let’s not make excuses for MS and feeders. When Pete took over they had no feeder and the MS and HS was a dumpster fire. Pete built both of those and is extremely active in the off season to make sure his program is where it is. Most coaches bounce after state tournament while Pete is still active in Freestyle/Greco, MS and kids club. Not saying the coaches aren’t worthy because they all sacrifice a lot of time. So let’s just call it a popularity contest over COY.

First off I didnt make excuses I said they were all deserving and then simply said some info on the situation. Yes Miller does a great job from the kids club to the middle school and summer programs but they voted on who did the best job this year  and again it could have went to any of them as some times "best job" could mean different things in different years.  Yes a lot of times it is a popularity contest always has and probably always will be.  I think Miller did a great job again this year and that he cares more about his team placing at state than a coaching award just like all the other coaches in that region.  Ill do my best to tell the other coaches not to "bounce" after state though if they want to be included for award next year.

Nolansville and Franklin got Region 7 Coaches of the Year. This isn’t the first time Miller has been snubbed.

All of them are deserving of the award but a lot goes into these votes/decisions. Look at pro sports for example not every time a team has the best record do they get the coaching award. For instance Nolensville moved up a classification and did very well and wrestled extremely tough at the state duals. While Franklin did not make it to state duals they won their side of the district (first time in over 13 years) and they do not have a middle school team or feeder like the other two. There have been multiple times when a team from this region won regions and placed at state and the coach didn't get the award. I believe Miller has won the award a couple times in his stint at Summit but would like to know when he got snubbed this award in the past?

Weird some regions are open to view brackets, some still closed.  Shouldn’t they all open same time?

I think some just keep them top secret so the other regions don't know what's going on or they simply wait until everyone has weighed in.

Father Ryan does look great so far this season though.  I'm not sure if they have all their pieces yet, but if they don't and they still have a few to add, they might be the best team in the state.  Will be a fun season to watch this year.  Competition level is getting higher and higher.  Big win for TN wrestling no matter what happens.

They are loaded and they get after it. I was really impressed with them this year. Ill also say Nolensville has a bunch of good wrestlers and would beat some of those teams on that list.

  9. Hey Everyone

We are going to try and do a day of duals on Saturday June 5th at Centennial (instead of the individual one we do) Goal is to get between 6 to 8 teams and wrestle a minimum of 5 duals. Even if a team is not full we can be flexible within each dual to maximize the amount of matches everyone will get. Example you have 8 kids and a team you are wrestling has 18 then try to wrestle it twice through.

If we have a lot of interest we may go back to an individual format

If you are interested email me and I will pencil you in.

Finished 3rd at state. Finished with 277 points, beat Brentwood by 100 points, 7 champs, 9 qualified. Ehhh maybe someone else deserves it. Not much to see here.

    yes I’m being sarcastic

You would be surprised. Smith and Brentwood placed 4th his first year there and he didnt get it.

Centennial placed 4th the following year and outscored the region teams by 500 points in duals and didnt get it. Logic is not used when voting for awards in this region.

you got me in the carry through. worst thing ever.

however i do think it would be better to have a district and then top 4 go to regions and then top 4 go to state. the 32 man bracket is watered down at most weights every year. an extra sub state step and a 16 man bracket would create better competition i think and a better overall state tournament. that’s just my opinion though.

That is what is going to happen next year

there should be a sub state like duals. top 4 from each region and then combine regions i to 4 sub state tournaments where top 4 there qualify. could even do it in back to back days considering each would only have 8 kids per bracket. it wouldn’t take long.

And Summit only graduates a couple. Their incoming middle schoolers are just as deadly as the freshman beating seniors now. They’re gonna be even better next year.

Very true, they have a bunch of freshman coming up that are going to be making a ton of noise next year (easily 5 if not more) Their middle school team has been one of the top in the state for the past few years if not longer.

you are correct. i fixed it. for some reason i thought they were 3rd. also, Centennial in 2019 was also 4th

Centennial didn't do to bad in 2020 either making it to the top 6 following a 4th place in 2019. So between aa and aaa Wilco has been representing pretty well lately. Big congrats to Summit and Fairview this year on great seasons.

Cleveland streams their matches and im gonna guess trackwrestling will probably have a stream available but don't count on being there in person.

Yes track will have the same one that they use for the state tournament in the past. Im hoping the internet ay my school doesn't go down.

It would've been no effort at all to add one more round and make it a double elimination. TSSAA strikes again.

100 percent agree. You will no doubt have the 3rd best team in the state not place because of the format and that is not right.

Yeah, there's no way that's right. We all have to be overthinking it because there is no actual conso bracket posted. I'd bet they do a full conso bracket. Otherwise why even have the r1 losers wrestle?

The way it is going to work is the two teams that lose their first round match up will have the opportunity to wrestle each other right after their first match (same time as semi finals are going on). They cant not advance after that match so I do not see any team wanting to wrestle a dual after they have been eliminated from placement round with the possibility of getting injured or covid exposure.

As I see it, all three of last year's placers who are back will be seeded. (In sports with a sectional/sub-state round, no distinction is made between region winners and runners-up.) So Cleveland goes top half, Wilson and Bradley Centrals in the bottom half. The rest is random draw, except that Science Hill and Dobyns-Bennett are separated because they come from the same region.

Correct about the placement but Bradley cant be seeded because they did not win their region which means there is a 50% chance that Bradley and WC wrestle in the first round on the bottom side of the bracket. If that happens it definitely opens the door to another team to finish top 3 that otherwise probably wouldn't.

Agreed. The duals are taking place in Williamson County Schools which I believe was still limiting capacity before Gov. Lee’s orders. No way it is a packed gym.

Each team will be allowed a set number of tickets and unfortunately there will be no general admission tickets.

I'm not saying its not doable, but you're asking the tssaa to actually care and do something that is for the benefit of the schools and kids...

and I just don't think they care. But that's just me

They already passed this and set it up for this year which I think is great for the sport. It is kind of like having a sub state

  21. 2 hours ago, WrestlingGod said:

To an extent yeah. I mean Bradley is always in the hunt and they have a top 4 team this year for sure but wont even qualify. That means a team that isn't usually in that top 4 will have a shot at sneaking on the podium this year.

Each region could still potentially have 2 teams come out of it. For instance Region 3 winner vs region 4 2nd place and region 3 2nd place vs region 4 1st place and then the two winners would battle it out for 1st and 2nd but both make it.

    Region 1 vs Region 2

    Region 3 vs region 4

    region 5 vs region 6

    region 7 vs region 8.
