  1. LA did have a successful season. Their accomplishments were many. Miller gets a pat on the back for the job he did. In the bigger picture,to me anyway, Coach Melton deserves some of the credit as well. He was the guy who scheduled camps at Jackson, Harpeth, Gallatin, and Maryville prior to this season. The competition at those places was high level. If you look back over Melton's tenure, he never dodged anybody at camps or regular season. Melrose, Ensworth, CPA just to name a few. The district LA plays in may not be the strongest in the state, but the non-district foes under Melton(with the exception of a couple) were always high caliber. Like him or not, the man deserves a lot of credit for this team's success. Who's to say that if the coaching change hadn't happened that the team wouldn't have made the state tourney anyway? I think they would have. Miller reaps the glory and that's ok, but Melton has seemingly become an afterthought and that is unfortunate. Hold your head high Coach Melton. You raised the level of LA basketball and the LA faithful should be thankful.

  2. I think it's fair to say that LA won't be overlooking East Lit. based on the recent past. East Lit. better not overlook LA would be the more accurate statement. As a fan I'm glad the Cats won't be playing that Fulton team or Bolivar team in the opening round. No disrespect to E.L. but your team probably would have gotton the same result as the Cats got....ran out of the Gym. I like our chances in this game IF we play our game. Hopefully the Cats won't have to play catch up as you posted. Hopefully we can control the TEMPO of the game and make E.L. play our game. Time will tell. Good Luck LA

If you will do a little research, you will see Fulton would have been a better draw than E Lit. Fulton beat Stone by 3. The same Stone LA beat twice although they beat them worse under the old coach. Trust me when I tell you Fulton would NOT run E Lit. out of the gym. Nor would Bolivar. LA by 20+
  3. Gotta Go with HOGEYE in this one. Better not be any of that stall ball mess from a couple weeks ago or it could be a long night for East Lit. LA needs to play four quarters of team ball. If they Play like they did in the Sub State Ill take them by 11. Unfortantly I will not be able to attend. They say the third time is the charm and its the Srs. third trip here so maybe this will be our long awaited year for a LA Boys Championship to match all the Girls. Its good to see the support from our district. But where are the E. Lit. fans at? Good Luck and GO HOGEYE! :thumb:

Maybe E Lit doesn't have any fans. Or maybe they will do their talking on the floor. They didn't stall in the game you are rererring to. The other team did. LA by 20+.
  4. Congratulations to a group of fine young men who are now playing the type of TEAM BB, that it takes to win the games you were not expected to win. This fan is proud of each and every one of you! :thumb:

I would like to echo the congrats on making it to the state tourney. Just curious as to the games LA won that they "weren't supposed" to win. If that's Tyner, I think they had 10-11 losses.
  5. Part of what midten said was correct. Godwin was awesome but he's not mr basketball. A couple of the moves he made were really really good. Especially the one where he avoided the charge and lay in. DL, a major celebration over beating JC is somewhat sad I must agree. But look at the bright side. LA beat them as bad as Clarkrange did and it didn't even take overtime. :thumb:

  6. Midtenn where did your confidence go? Thought you said Godwin was going to dunk on Ramsey and JC was going to win again :roflolk: Hogeye isnt even in town yet and you are already trying to justify a loss! As for Sportster90 being embarrased, I guess Upperman and Cannon should be too since they loss to Smith Co. Since you blame our coach what is their excuse? No shame in fighting hard and loosing but alot of shame in not even trying!

I personally don't believe Cannon or Upperman's talent level is on par with LA. As for blaming the coach, (since Coach Melton's departure) all anti-Melton have said the JC loss was TOTALLY Coach Melton's fault(even though the starters played the first half and 4th quarter). A team(JC)that beats Pickett Co. by 3 and then loses to Clarkrange can't be very good. My point being SC losing to a 1 win York team is pretty bad as well. Coach Melton didn't pilot the ship against SC so that one can't be blamed on him.
  7. Since 'Sportster90' doesn't seem to want to do his homework, I'll complete the assignment for him. Only one coach has lost to Jackson Co. since they moved down to single A and that includes two losses. A five point loss at home during the 06-07 season and a twenty-three point loss this year. You then have to go back to 03-04 when LA lost a two point decision while being coached by McCoin. At that time J.C. was in AA.

Sorry I didn't get my homework finished. Here's some more digging though. Melton vs. Smith Co. 12-0. Avg score 73-47. But let's focus on THIS team.
  8. Did you seriously bring up win-loss records & win percentage? I won't get into the whole political thing again. Based on pure coaching Melton was the best. Anyone and everyone knows that. No point in bringing all that up again. I'm not going to do the homework for you, but go back and tally the margin of victory against district opponents while Melton was coaching and let me know what you find out.

If saying we are under-achieving makes me a downer, then I don't care to carry that title. I enjoy the game of basketball more than most. It is everyone's political views that have messed it up for these kids.

Smith Co. will fade. Trust me on that one. I did a little homework. Melton vs. Cannon Co. 10 wins and ZERO losses. Avg margin of victory against Cannon=25 ppg. Melton vs. Upperman 12-2. Avg margin of victory= 12 ppg.
  9. I got news for ya kodger you're right Mason will eat Godwins lunch and whatever else Godwin wants to shove down his throat. You're another one of those LA people that want everyone to think the starters didn't play much against JC but just in case you forgot JC beat LA's starters for the 3 quarters they were in there. I can't wait for this matchup and i hope they try to guard Godwin with Ramsey, he will be fouled out in less than a half mark my word! The reason he didn't play alot last time was cause he tried to guard him and got in foul trouble AT LA and you think he can guard him in Jackson County? :roflol: As for the zone well that would be one way LA could guard him and the only way but if LA is so "mighty" why wouldn't they just man up against JC since they are SO much better in your narrow mind?? LA have to zone a Class A team? really? wow what a powerhouse you have there!! Now back to the subject, if Bibb had this team from LA no one around here would touch them, he is a great coach. LA has a puppet coaching this team and because they are so talented they win inspite of his ineptness. Jus sayin

You say some crazy stuff and LA will win the next game against you, but this statement is accurate. Coach Melton wasn't a puppet so he lost his job.

  10. I just knew it. Them dad-gum managers getting to wear what they want has caused a lot of our problems. Shame on them. Now, if we can just get them to dress alike, winning out should be no problem. :roflol:

I don't recall saying what them dad-gum managers wore caused problems. Real intelligent post rabbit. Looks like the team would just wear a cut off t shirt(just make sure its blue with a glued # on the back)and some shorts. No big deal. I look for the coats and ties to be canned if the current coach gets the job next year. I always thought a coach should take pride in his team's appearance. I know Coach Melton did. :thumb:
  11. I consider myself a "naysayer". There is nothing for us to say. Livingston has lost their edge. I think that is easy to see. Us already being 3-2 in the district says it all. We still have a game left with Upperman and Smith Co. each. In case you forgot, they have both already but use once. Plus, we still have 2 games left against Cannon Co. A team that many considered a threat before this season ever started. This season has already been a disappointment. However, winning out and taking this district would make up for that.

Players are saying that Coach Miller is now starting to try to change things and implement his own "strategy" and that they are getting away from the things Melton had installed. I couldn't think of a worse thing to do in the middle of the season than to change something they have been doing for the past few years...

No more games with Smith Co. Already played them twice. Sad that LA would have to even be concerned with how many times they have played Smith Co. Cannon Co. might present some problems. It's obvious new "strategy" has been brought in. You don't have to watch them long to notice that. Does the dress code exist anymore? I notice managers wear whatever they want. With the ex coach, all dressed the same. Maybe the more "reLAXed" atmosphere will take the Cats to where they want to go.
  12. Yes I agree that we should let the page turn and if we are real fans of LA sports we should continue to support our teams regardless of who the coach is. Was Richard a good coach? Yes I thought he had the program going in the right direction no argument here. And I was one of his biggest critics when he first got the job.I think his record speaks for itself.

All I hear now is how the board done Richard. Did they have just cause ? I don't really know all the facts but just what I hear. My opinion is that if he really treasured his job he would have taken whatever action the board suggested and went on from there. And I don't have a clue what was said to him about his future as a coach. Apparently he chose to take it into his own hands thus his resigning the job.

Now in comes Jimmy Miller. As a player he was one of the best to play here just like Richard. And both had dreams of becoming a coach someday just like I did myself. Anybody that has played sports I'm sure have always had dreams. McCoin...Lamb...Qualls...(and have heard thru the vine that Cates might do some coaching)are following their dreams. So I think Jimmy should be given his chance to coach as well. I will support Jimmy as long as he puts the kids first. After all it's only a game and kids should learn life's lessons thru sports.

All these guys I just mentioned should be thankful for even getting a chance to coach. Because lot's of people didn't have the right politics or whatever it takes to be a coach in this county. A few comes to my mind right quick...Jimmy Maynord is at the top. Dolphus Dial is another he won as many championships at INDEPEDENCE as anybody but maybe Mr. Wilbur C. Smith. DOC never got his chance and he was a great coach.

Amen to your statement about Jimmy Maynord. Don't remember much about Dial. I think you could also Mark Eldridge to that list.
  13. I'm like the mountaindewman, this stuff is getting old. Obviously this is going to start after LA game especially when they lose. Guess play4fun, dominancelost, row8faright, midtenn, etc. will have to wait a few days before really getting cranked up again because Pickett and Clarkrange are the next 2 games on the schedule. Who knows though, most probably thought SC wouldn't be close. As for the "other side". whatever the cats are doing obviously ain/t working. Whether it's personnel or strategy, or maybe a combination of the 2, the cats aren't performing very well. But as I said earlier with Pickett and Clarkrange up next, should be a few more smiling faces maybe(for a little while)

  14. Actually...just as was said a minute ago, there was nothing to be suspended for..broke a radio..wow..he paid for it. Get over it. What should have been done is the egotistical power hungry director and board of education should have sit on their thumbs like they do on most topics that matter, and not got involved. He was hired to coach basketball and in 5 years no one else done it like he has at LA (in a 5 year time look it up..the stats say it all) and if they wanted to do it themselves they could have not hired him and just had all 10 of those goofballs sit on the bench with the director at the head and the bench could have been the entire front row of the LA bleachers HA HA...They could have even saved having to pay a coach therefore cutting into the budget deficit everyone seems they have...maybe that's a plan for em.

Part 2: Sub Par district? Absolutely in Double A. LA won the region 3 years and how many state tourney wins? 0. Memphis has the stout districts and regions we have the weaker ones. That is not fabricated, that is absolutely fact and everyone that is real with themselves knows it.

As far as letting it die, I agree completely and most likely it will die with the LA program...simple facts..this year they'll be ok..the next year a little less...then a little less...then eventually they will be back like they were..nobody on the boys side and a girls powerhouse...most LA fans that are Coach Melton haters better just hope and PRAY that he does not end up somewhere else in the district and come to LA every year and absolutely wear em out...but then again that would be KARMA kicking someone right in the mouth wouldn't it?

DID I ANSWER ALL THESE QUESTIONS TO YOUR LIKING??

I didn't know the school board and the director hired the ex coach. I thought his uncle did. And anybody that thinks none of these posts were written BY the ex coach and his family are just goofballs. As far as other district teams, there are a lot of powerhouse programs he could go to and come back and kick LA right in the mouth. Yeah right.
