  1. Antwan, we will have to disagree on that. I don't think the Big East (currently) is a major conference as it was back in the day. Of that group you listed in your earlier post...only Villanova or Georgetown would be said to be anything close to upper level. JMO

I would take the SEC any day and all day- Missouri, Auburn, and Mississippi St. all had losing records vs. the schools of Marquette, Creighton, and Depaul.

Yeah, I will take the SEC.

On a HS note...your boys at Smith Co. are sneaking up on anyone this year.....be honest how do you think they will be this year? I got em 3rd right now but I think they are right there because of the way they played MC and York last year.

  2. It might sound silly bit that is actually how they define it. I am just telling you how it is looked at: since the Big East changed drastically would you say that it (as a whole conference) is considered a major basketball conference? (top to bottom now not just the top schools)

I am not saying it sounds right just that they look at everything through the profile of power conferences.

  3. Actually any school that is not considered in the Power 5 schools is considered a mid-major school. I would say the level of competition that Gonzaga plays probably proves they are more than good enough to play with the Power 5 schools.

Yes, even Butler is considered a mid-major before joining their current league and even now in their current league. It has less to do with who they play and more to do with the Power 5 conferences. (which is dominated by football)

  4. Of course Blevins has been offered by TTU- he is in their back yard. They would be dumb not to keep a kid with his skills close to them.

I am not saying he is high D1 material but his has a mid-major ceiling that could get him an education.

Will it be the usual suspects fighting for 1st place this year? Can Macon County turn the corner and be #1 or will York and Upperman be there? Is Livingston going to take a step back this year and not be in the upper tier of 8AA? Has Smith County finally arrived to be considered a top team in 8AA after last years finish? Will Central ever get out of the basement?

  5. That is correct Warmachine- Pete Froedden was named the new coach.

Some old rivalries will be renewed with Coach Wilson at Franklin High School.

They coached against each other when Pete was at Sycamore and Jamie was at Harpeth.

  6. Jar2

I would say you need to remember that they don't have the best athletes at CM.

Remember this too-how many district gamed has CM won? How do you handle success after you expierience it? I am sure these kids are the same way.

No doubt their staff was probably disappointed in the team effort.

Just my opinion but I think cannon county is probably the worst matchup for CM.

just a couple of thoughts to consider.

  7. Well no lightning in the bottle for Coach Martin and DC tonight. How about Central Magnet though?  Big congrats to them on their first district 8AA win, EVER! With as big of a population Rutherford County has, you would think CM would be able to attract some decent talent and eventually get things turned around for the good. I'm not sure what the problem is up there, but they have been awful since they started playing varsity basketball in 2011-2012. I can understand struggling mightily in the first two seasons, but they haven't showed much sign of improvement. They have gone 10-94 since their first season. All it would take is one really good player to have them competitive most nights. Does anyone have any opinions or knowledge as to why they are still so bad? Is it simply because it's still a young program or what? Their baseball and women's basketball are good, so I just don't really understand why they're still struggling so bad.

DCTiger help me out with something. I am trying to find out some information on CM as I am trying to enroll my kids at CM.

I have taken the tour at CM and done the informational thing as well. Do you know why their men's basketball team has done so poorly? I see them playing good teams close. They were tied with Livingston Academy at half, and they were down 8 to Cannon County at the end of the 3rd, and now they beat York (that is their first district win in their history?)

I know there are good athletes in Rutherford County as I am a sports fan and enjoy going to games. I know after interviewing with the administration that you have to have the grades to get in and then it becomes a random thing of who gets in the school. They don't pick and choose which ones are athletes and which ones are not and I am sure this has an affect- apparently the chess team and quiz bowl teams are national champs, lol.

I am supposed to talk to the head coach next week when I take my kids to the school to tour it. Was the previous coach any good? Did he develop a feeder system (I dont know if they even have a feeder system)? How is the junior high program? These are all things I want to know.

Do you know anything about the current coach? I saw that CM played Dekalb Co, pretty close last week- did you see the game? What did they look like?

  8. Hey what is the deal with CM? I see scores on CoachT all the time- quarterly updates and they play well for a half or so and seem to fade in the 3rd quarter.

Very low scoring games too- non shooting team I assume?

Somebody with some knowledge tell me what is up with their program.

I have a son who is not the best athlete but we will be trying to get him in CM since we moved in the area.

Any 8AA knowledgeable people out there got any info?

  9. Very good observation mumbletypeg- I am not a Cubs fan but do know several of the players there since they were very small.

I know that they are very good and from what I have observed in 9AA it is their title to lose- despite whatever nonsense cleggy may think. Wishful thinking cleggy may be that your team( whoever that is) can get 2nd place and stay away from the Cubs in the 1st and 2nd round of the tournament as they travel this road to a 9AA championship.

If I am wrong I will be the first to admit it- but in the words of Sir Charles, "I may be wrong but I doubt it!"

  10. This league is Cheatham's to lose- Heritage aint got nothing for the Cubs and Harpeth will self-destruct. Barring any major injuries the Cubs will win this league.

The Cubs are a very good team- well coached and return enough strong players that they should repeat as regular season champs.

  11. dcTiger, What happened to Patterson? Hadn't heard he got hurt. Hope it is not too bad and he will be back- he plays hard.

Still putting my $$$ on Cannon County to suprise everyone. Livingston Academy is the favorite but I think Cannon Co could be a spoiler.

  12. Station Camp will be at Franklin HS playday on Nov. 8th.

A lot of good teams will be there and then some not so good teams : Livingston Academy, Hillsboro, Overton, Knox Bearden, Breantwood, Ravenwood, Clarksville NE, Cheatham Co, CAK, Father Ryan, East Nashville, Summit, Portland, Glencliff, and Central Magnet.

  13. Okay, took some digging but the new coach at CM is Douglas Worsley. He was the coach at Sycamore about 3-4 years ago when they were really good and lost to Giles Co. in the sectional game.

Any of you Macon County fans have input on him? What style does he like to play? Preferred defense, etc...?

I remember a little about him when my kids were in 9AA but they were JVers not varsity kids.
