  1. A lot of people just don't understand some basic concepts of football. You don't have to be the better team all season. Which I think Columbia was. You just have to be the better team that night. Lenoir City was better on that night. Columbia is still one of the best teams in 5a. Tough loss

  2. I stated in another post, I dont think 8AAA is as good as advertised. Columbia is a good 5A team, but I would have to rank them 4th at best. I say Henry Co takes the gold ball. Tullahoma and Shelbyville have beat a bunch of bad teams, Columbia has beat Dickson Co and Marshall Co. Other than that it's a lot of wins against awful competition. The playoffs may prove me wrong, just my observation at this point in the season.

Everyone can believe what they want to believe. Just hard to not favor a repeat appearance State Championship team that is 7-1 and competed against a D2(recruited) school. As the way it looks right now it wont can't be Powell and CCHS in the champ game cause they might be in the same bracket but I think that will be the state championship game. Whoever wins with Columbia against Powell will have great momentum in playing Henry county if it is them at state.

  3. well, I will give you an unbiased persons opionion. I am not a Baylor fan, I just went to watch a good game and usually root for the public schools over private schools. I thought there were some terrible calls that went in Columbias favor. Baylor got called for a facemask that didnt happen, Columbia interfered with a fair catch on a punt and they didnt call it, there were several questionable spots that went in Columbias favor but the worst was the long pass you completed on Baylors sideline. The kid was 2-3 steps out of bounds before he gained control of the ball. The game was much more of a blow out than the score showed. I dont think anyone is trying to put down Columbia but maybe some of the earlier posts about how good they are and how they whip Ensworth in a srimmage every year riled some people up. Baylor had almost 400 yards of rushing. Imagine how many yards they would have had without the turnovers. Probably 600 yards of rushing. They did this without a starting lineman, their starting tailback and their #1 receiver (according to the guy sittng beside me who kept informing me of that all night, lol). A team that gets 5 turnovers should win or atleast be in position to win, especially a team self proclaimed as the best or one of the best in the state. I thought most of the turnovers were very bad turnovers. The Baylor qb threw one right to the small Columbia player on the pick 6, he threw another ball up for grabs that shuld have never been thrown. Other than the first drive Columbia did nothing other than a lucky questionable catch and the pick 6. The game could/ should have been about 60-6. I think Columbias passing game looked good when they had time. They just simply got whipped on the line of scrimmage all night. They probably would have been in the game if they had more time. I think against a team without such a dominant line they will do very good as i was impressed with their qb and wr's.

What about the Pass pass interference on Columbia's Belew that wasn't called? What about the MANY late hits the Baylor O line was proceeding with right infront of the referees. Supposidly the ref told the players that toppling a player was "just football." You obviously are not being true to your word and are definitely being biased. And yes Baylor deserved to win the game. You can't say Columbia isn't on the same level when they physically stopped them on a goaline stand with lineman half the size of Baylor's. Baylor's offense is solid all around athletically wise but needs to take more control of the ball. The comparison between the two were Baylor had better lineman. But Columbia had better skill players. Unfortunately for CCHS is that the hefty boys took a bigger role in this game. Hats off to Baylor I wish them the best of luck. I am rooting for them to win State. Great coaching staff and great talent. Columbia Central also has a great coaching staff and great talent. But once again with Columbia's talent...I still believe they are the best in 5a. Can't judge them off playing private schools because public doesn't hand pick their players. D2 schools should be better than private. We'll wait and see but I see Columbia and Baylor coming home with Rings this DECEMBER!

  4. Hoganknows :popcorneater:

    39-20

Columbia failed to cross mid-field in the second half and needed a 20 yard run on the final play of the game to have 5 net yards of offense in the second half.

Baylor also had 5 turnovers and still wins by 19 :popcorneater:

Quit acting like it was a blow out. I'm sorry Columbia doesnt have enough players to have the depth to play 4 quarters with a team that brings in top talent because of the quality of the school. But don't downgrade them on the 5a level. Baylor is not 19 points better than Columbia. And maybe if the officiating wasnt so sloppy it coudve been closer. You wanna talk about how bad Columbia's offense is? Why dont you mention the fact that BAYLOR's offense turned the ball over 5 times. Columbia should still be the top team in 5a.

  5. Baylor killed Ensworth and Ensworth would kill Columbia

BA beat Baylor 10-7...Columbia is not in BA's league either

Remember when Columbia played in the Wilco League...last place or next to last place each year...Baylor is better than Wilco League :hungry:

    Blow Out :popcorneater:

You obviously dont research and you just say what ever sounds good. Columbia has beaten Ensworth in the summer scrimmage 3 years in a row. And you are going to base your reasoning on what Central was like 3 years ago?? The intelligence of people on are is quite entertaining. And think about the weapons Columbia Central has. Their QB is 2nd in midstate with passing yards. They have 2 future D1 recievers who are 2nd and 3rd in receiving yards in the midstate. They have one of the most ridiculous positive turnover margins I've seen in years. But Baylor is solid everywhere. Your logic is scewed and we'll just wait and see this Saturday. Should be a great game!!

  6. I'm in agreement Hogan, Columbia has had too many close ones that could have gone either way. Baylor is top notch competition and will show it Friday night.

That can also play in their favor. They are a team that knows how to win. Granted that Baylor will be ready to play after a loss and a bye week. Make sure you decision isn't biased and look into both teams. Columbia has a lot of weapons. The most on a single team I've seen all year. Baylor is solid all around. I dont see a blow out either way. I say a 6 to 10 point spread and could go either way

  7. It sure did look like an afterthought. First rule of officiating, call only what you see and never call anything you don't. :popcorneater:

The referee actually threw a flag before the receiver said anything to him. It was his blue flag that he threw on accident. Then he threw his yellow.

  8. My pick is Columbia vs Henry Co in Cookeville. HC wins by 10 (unless they get down and are forced to pass, not overly impressed with their passing game)

If Henry County expects to win that game they better put up a bunch of points because CHS has had the most electrifying pass offense in 5a the first two weeks averaging over 300 yards.

  9. I agree. Franklin Co, Lincoln Co and Shelbyville seem to have teams who can beat Columbia or Tullahoma on any Friday. I thought it was a great game plan and executed well for Tullahoma Friday nite. They played to their strength. The Rebels won in a tough environment and Lincoln Co beat a good Giles Co team. The Lions played Lawrence Co at the right time. I'm sure the Wildcats will get better as the season goes on. The Golden Eagles have some good skill players and are always dangerous. Their running back is very good. The fun is just beginning.

I highly doubt Shelbyville has the speed that Columbia has. Columbia has arguably the best skills players in 5a. Anybody who wants to beat Columbia better plan on scoring a whooole lot of points because it looks like the Lions will be lighting it up this year. BUT you just have to be the better team on that night to beat anybody. They're a lot of solid teams in 8 this year and it will be a great showdown with Columbia and Tully on Thursday Night Lights on Sept 1st. That game should answer a lot of questions.

  10. Congrats to the Lions on the #1 spot this week. I think this game will be a good one. Missed it last year but heard it was close. Any top players to watch for in this game from either side?

Memphis Commit Eric Belew. Ballhawking and hard hitting on defense and great hands and speed on offense. The scary part is, is there is two of him. His cousin Colton Belew is the same frame and has great athletic ability everywhere on the field. Look to see the Belew Duo make some big plays!

  11. I see Columbia taking this one in a more dominant fashion than last year. I'd like to see Dickson do well and put up a good fight against the state champs, because they're in our district, but at the same time I'd like to see them get pummeled into submission, because they're our biggest rival.

    I guess it's a win-win situation for me. :popcorneater:

The only way Central loses this game is if they beat theirselves. DC is always a tough opponent but if Central plays solid and wins this one it will give them great momentum going back home on SEPT 1st for the Thursday Night Light showdown against Tullahoma. One game at a Time though. GO LIONS

  12. I believe West would handle Powell myself. Powell is about the same as last year; just more experience. If anyone comes out of the Knoxville area, it will be West. BTW West lost to Columbia 7-0 last year, and Columbia lost quite a bit from what I understand.

Columbia did lost a lot but they lost more the year before and returned to the State title and won. They have gotten really lucky with Transfers such as Colton Belew. The former Giles County ATH is 6-2 180 and can play virtually anywere on offense. His Cousin and HC's son Eric Belew is returning and committed to Memphis. Probably the best all around ATH in the state. The line was questionable but looked really good in the Jamboree and actually has a good amount of size after losing two 300 pounders last year. I'd like to see West and the Lions have a rematch in the post season! What a game that would be.

  13. Taylor Shuffler from Greeneville... He's the starting RB and CB. Just some things about him: he runs a legit 4.4-40, he runs prolly the fastest NFL shuttle in Tn and mabe the nation as a highschool player at right between a 3.8 and 3.9 seconds... I know y'all prolly won't believe it but it's true I've seen him do it at multiple combines including at Wofford where the coach there said it was the fastest shuttle ever ran at their combine... All the field though he didn't play RB last year because Bj spradlin and Willie Carmichael were back there, which is prolly why you never heard of him. But watch out for him this year.

  14. Two State Championship teams rescheduled their scrimmage from Friday Aug 5th to Monday. Should be a great game with some great players including: Eric Belew(Memphis Commit), his cousin Colton Belew, Chris Martin, and Mathew Markhem from the Lions at Central, as well as Corn Elder and Corey Batey of Ensworth. Should be fun to watch
