  1. Greeneville will be fine. They just didn’t have any energy today.

The defense will be good, we know that. Once they get some starters back from injuries, get some positions figured out, and the offense can help them a little, then they’ll be fine. They didn’t look good today, but I don’t think defense will be a problem once the real games start.

The offense was nonexistent for Greeneville today. We threw two interceptions while I was there, and could have thrown two more. Obviously, once the games start we won’t be throwing as much since that isn’t our strength. This staff always figures out a way to get the most out of the offense, so I’m sure we will make some adjustments and get rolling.

I realize this is just a scrimmage, so you can’t take too much away from it. We were running players on and off the field like crazy, just trying different things. So, that may have played a role in the problem. But, I heard the coaches getting on the players for not having any energy during warm-ups.

Honestly, I think this may be the best thing that has happened to Greeneville. This may be the wakeup call they needed before the real games start. The bottom line is, Greeneville will be fine! They have too much talent and too good of a coaching staff to not get things going.

im not sure when you left, but i stayed for the whole thing and greeneville scored 5 times near the end...consecutive plays//..and DB couldnt move the ball at all after GHS settled down....ok, now that i've taken care of the dream scenario, let's get down to business. What i saw out there today was a team that TODAY was physically superior up front..and that's a shocker to me. DB dominated the "main" part of the scrimmage and yes, the coaches were frustrated at the teams lack of energy and exitement. you could hear them all over burley stadium. i could write a novel on what i think went wrong today, but i wont. im in agreement with you. i think today was probably gona end up being a good thing in the long run for GHS. I think these kids for the most part have stayed pretty grounded after last year, but a few of them perhaps still needed a wakeup call and got it today....GO DEVILs

  2. My reason for posting on this topic was not to disrespect the Devils but to make sure you guys know that your not the new king of the hill. And, i have supported you guys for the last two years. I went to Cookeville two years ago and sat with the Grenneville fans and pulled for you guys as hard as any of the Devil faithfull. And if you guys had of had an offense that year you would now be the back to back State Champions. As for last year, i went to Tenn High on our off week and watched you guys beat the crap out of them. And, i watched you dismantle the team for the title in what i consider the worst show of sportsmanship by a team at any level and any sport. I still cant believe the refs. didnt just end the game to prevent someone from sustaining a career ending injury. So for all the Devil fans who are angered at my posts you need to understand that my emotions are not fueled toward you from a lack of respect or from jealiousy but to help you understand that it takes a while to build and retain a tradition of excellence and to be aware that just because youve done it once, it dont mean you will always be the best around. Good luck Devils toward another successful season and Roll Tribe!!!!! :thumb:

yep, the title game 2 years ago was frustrating...we had a decent offense, we just kept giving them the dang ball..tough to watch. i think Ballard is building a winning tradition of dominance in G'town and hopefully, we'll see one another on the schedule again soon. Im not sure why it stopped, or who stopped it, but i think it's great for NET to have this game. until someone in this region steps up to challenge either one of our teams, i think it's needed if nothing else to give one another a challenge....we'll see in week zero how well science hill has progressed since stacy took over. the JC press doesnt give the Devils any love what so ever and some around here see that as a lack of respect...maybe it needs to be earned before it can be given, but i sorta figured they had already atleast earned the respect of the biggest news paper in the region...guess not...who you guys got in week zero?

  3. No need to pick. It's like being a Vol fan and let's say a Cardnal fan.The bigger league Cardnals{DB} have not won a title in a while, but that has nothing to do with pulling for the smaller league Vols{Greeneville} that are the defending champs. You can be Bruce Wayne and Batman at the same time.I already know the punch line. You have to wear a mask to be Batman.

who in their right mind would ever be a fan of the VOLS and CARDINALS.....hehe...and I understand the reasoning behind being a Tribe and Devil fan in your case. Wearing a mask has never really been my style, I guess I'm more of the "see me, fear me" type, like say, the Riddler...but then again, some have said i'm more like the short, loud, annoying villain....the penguin...GO DEVILS

  4. Your reading the wrong history book. DB has seven championships and yes, way back when we played Miami high school at the old orange bowl and won a National Championship. Now that is fact. Funny story about that trip. We hauled our own water all the way there to cook with so we would'nt get anything from drinking the water. It worked.Lol!!! Roll Tribe!!!!!!!!!

no, im in the right history book, i was referring to the fact that all of the DB titles were voted on, like they use to do in college, rather than won on the field in a tournament format, like Greeneville. Here's the thing, there's no argument from me that DB is obviously the "big boy" here and there's no argument that DB is a force to be reckoned with not only historically, but in the present and I'm surely not stupid enough to sit here and say that Greeneville is better than DB, past or present, the head to head record bores that out. I just hope that some day the DB fans can respect what GHS has done the last few years, give them the credit due. AND,maybe, one day, just maybe, fans of both schools can see eye to eye on things and root for one another when not playing eachother. Probably to much to hope for, but hey, anything's possible. Social media in my opinion is the biggest vehicle for most of the "hate" or rivalry between the two. Bottom line is both schools have loads to be proud of and it's my hope that every NET school does well and represents our part of the state well in the playoffs every year...funny story about the water...and probably a dang good idea.

  5. I'll have to correct one thing.Greeneville has never beat Maryville,0-7-1,but Dobyns-Bennett has a winning record against them 2-1 all time.

pick a side here caped crusader!!!! might i remind you good crime fighter, that same history book tells us DB has never WON a state title. ( don't bother boring me with stories of journalistically awarded championships either, since we're now quoting the history book )..jordan fades back...SWISH...AND THE GAME IS DONE!!!!!!!!

  6. Ok now, somebody check the dang drinking water in Grenneville. I mean really, you think you could beat Alcoa now, and Maryville? I was worried before but i'm downright scared for your mental stability now. You've off your rocker. :roflol:

i didnt say we WOULD beat them, i said anything's possible...and no need to worry about our Rocker, we traded it in for a cape 3 years ago.....hehe

  7. Actually I'm not wrong. When I said I agree with in most games{I was talking about anyone not trying to run up a score }not that Greeneville had done so.Reread and see what I was saying.Read the last line of what I was replying to and my response.I should have been more specific in how I wrote it.

gotcha..by the way you replied to pepvol, it looked as if you were agreeing with them that GHS had run the scores up...and yah, Trez got exactly what they deserved. If i had been coaching that game, i would have called time out and tried to put another on in the endzone and i dont think ANYONE would have had a problem with it...do you see anyone other than GHS from NET making it to a state final? not neccessarily winning it, but making it to the game.

  8. Right now,the 5A schools have the best shot outside of Greeneville. The highest class was a beast long before Maryville got there with Oak Ridge being a big hurdle before the Nashville area schools.Greeneville will get a first hand look at what has owned the 3A class in Alcoa.

i would love to have seen Greeneville played Alcoa last year. I think we can stay with them even this year, but i thing beating them would be maybe asking alot. One never knows though, stranger things have happend in the wild and wacky sport....see Michigan vs Appy st. or the VOLS vs Wyoming

  9. I agree with that in most games. However,I have to admit that I wanted to see Greeneville win the championship game by 100 points against that bunch with all the cheep shots they were giving the Devils.

Batman, I'm not sure you are correct on this one....no, im actually quite sure, you are wrong. you dont truly beleive GHS ran any scores up, aside from the obvious trez. most of those games were finished by the end of the first half, some by the end of the first quarter. Ballard just dont do that sort of thing...cant help it if our freshman team scored a few extra tds in garbage time. I vividly remember some greeneville teams in the late 70's with some mean, grizzly defenders that just loved to pound on their friends that played at rival schools in the county...now those guys are the type guys that would embarass their little brothers in front of hot females as they walked by their yard. Even after promising their little brother they would make him look good in front of them moments earlier....surely you wouldnt have done anything like that when you were younger would you?.....*wink*

  10. Nothing Magical about running the score up , you have no idea how many points George Quarles could have scored on some teams during a few seasons . Ask a lot of Maryville's past opponents how much Quarles always tried his best to avoid lopsided scores . I've seen many , many games Maryville could of won by 100 pts..... end up being 35-7 . I would much rather win with Class than to run up the score on an inferior opponent .

evidentally you only saw the score on those games last year. in 90 % of those games it was over at halftime and greeneville had 2nd and 3rd teamers in there in the second half. I am very aware of what Maryville could do to people, which only confirms my stance that GHS didnt run any scores up, with the exception of Trezevant ( who richly deserved every point GHS scored on them for their complete classlessness). Its my understanding that Ballard coached at maryville for a time in years past, although i could be wrong on that.

  11. I dont understand this whole thread. We have a great win-loss record against Greeneville, and we dont play each other in regular season, but we scrimmage Tuesday..which means nothing. Its like saying, which team is better, one of us 2, or Myrtle Beach Seahawks...who cares if we're not gonna play. This type thread is usually started by someone who doesnt like either team, and who's team cant compete with either one. Id like to see this one die, but oh no, whoever shows a little more of whats to come (Tues) will start it all over, and the loser on Tue. will just say''its just a scrimmage''. Whoop de do Im much more concerened with everyone getting healthy, and the Knox Farragut game.

you have to admit it would be nice to see these two teams on one another schedule again. funny how the "who's better" debates always seem to fire up when two teams dont even face one another when it counts. i guess this is the closest thing we have to a game and you can probably best beleive the kids on both sides of the ball want to " win " this one....i do agree that both teams leaving unscathed is the most important thing....football for real is less than 2 weeks away. It would be terrible to see someone from either team lost for the season in a "meaningless scrimmage".

  12. Did Greenville win the state last year? Yes. Has it been years since DB won a state title? Yes. Will either team ever win another? Who knows. I follow DB every week and even travel to other games on our off weeks. I watch a tremendious about of high school football and i've seen some very good teams over the years. Greenville had a great team last year and yes they did score more points than anybody ever, i'm not doubting that. The fact of the matter is, i don't believe they have the players to do it again. And i don't believe they could beat us on a consistent basis. Just like the rumors for years about Gate City beating us. It's just not going to happen. Having us play in the future just would'nt decide which team was better last year. If you take Carmichael out of the equation last year, the Devils would'nt have won the title. He was the main deal on that team. If we had lost Seabolt, we still had many weapons to throw at you. Now, Greenville go out and prove me wrong and i will admit you are a great program but i will never say that you are better than DB. Never!!!!!

i swore i wasnt gona reply to a DB fans comments on here this year, but, i cant help myself. i dont think ANYONE in the state will ever score the points greeneville did last year. not maryville, alcoa, certainly not DB and no, not even greeneville. Last year was a magical year no doubt, but to say they wouldnt have done it without willie is not fair to the other kids on that team. Willie was no doubt an incredibly young man on the field, but let's not forget about BJ, chaz and the rest of that team. " I THINK " is relative in most every aspect of being a spectator because what " I THINK " is almost certainly gona differ from what " YOU THINK ". No, Greeneville will not repeat what they did last year, as far as points scored, but I think they have a better than good shot at getting back to a 15th game. will they win it all?? " I THINK " they can, but " I DONT KNOW " if they will....good luck to DB this season ( god that was tough..lol ) i hope after tuesday you win every.......on second thought, have a nice day!

  13. looks like there is more BUZZ on THE DEVILS in the 5A and 6A post with DB  . the tribe must be jealous of the attention the devils are getting . to bad .

The tribe is gona get all the attention they can handle tuesday....hehehe...would love to see them added back to the schedule.

  14. Ya bvd is traveling with the team this year thanks to Coach Ballard!

Who all is goin to the scrimmage tomorrow? I am!

    GO DEVILS!

just to clarify, it is in the works for me to travel. Nothing has been etched in stone and I certainly dont want to get in anyones way, or cause anyone any trouble with my coverage of the Devils. I consider it a priveledge to have been able to talk with the coaches and do what I've done thus far. These are a GREAT bunch of young men, who are obviously being mentored correctly by a fantastic staff and parents. I cant say enough about these guys. I'm more impressed every time I'm around them. Thanks to anyone and everyone who supports my efforts to cover Greeneville football. Im obviously not a professonal, but certainly do enjoy doing what I do with and for the team. GO GREENE DEVILS!

  15. Did he come from a strong program in South Carolina (I heard he transferred from SC)? If not, then it may just take awhile to adjust to the way things work at a program like Greeneville (in terms of hard work). I know Carmichael improved greatly from the first time I saw him to the end of the season. It sounds like Goode has all the potential to be a big time player for Greeneville if he puts in the work.

xzavier came from just outside Greenville,sc...i have talked with him several times and his words are " this is a whole different ball game here"....LOL....he's getting more aclimated ( spellings?) to the way things work at GreenEville vs Greenville and in my own personal opinion, just from watching the practices, he will do big things at GreenEville......eventually. He's a bit of a showboat, but coach B will take care of that. I expect to see more and more of him in the backfield as the season progresses. Anyone see mr Hall tote the rock yesterday?
