  1. Thanks Cliff. This will be my last post in this garbage thread. Club rivalries boil over to the high school ranks here in East TN and it turns in to ugly he said/she said episodes like what we have here. Volleyball in this area has evolved quite a bit in the past few years. It'd be nice if the fans would catch up.

Not saying this is true because I have no idea who this girl is or anything about the situation.

  2. bigblue you're making a lot of assumptions based on something you know very little to nothing about and you need to stop. An anonymous comment or comments posted below an online local news story by a bunch of sore losers is not a credible source. You're typically a good poster but your propensity to take a non issue and run it in to the ground is downright annoying, remember the stat scandal that you fueled? Grow up.

  3. Day 1

    Match 1: Ravenwood over Farragut 25-13, 25-19, 25-21

    Match 2:Sullivan South over Houston 25-27, 25-14, 25-22, 25-18

    Match 3: Siegel over Collierville 25-16, 25-19, 20-25, 25-15

    Match 4: Independence over Soddy Daisy 25-16, 17-25, 25-17, 26-24

    Match 5: Ravenwood over Sullivan South 25-23, 25-9, 22-25, 25-16

    Match 6: Independence over Siegel 26-24, 21-25, 25-9, 25-16

    Match 7: Farragut over Houston 25-13, 25-21, 25-23

    Match 8: Soddy Daisy over Collierville 25-21, 25-15, 26-24

  4. The player in question is a Freshman who is not a contributor on the varsity team. The administration and coaches have dotted their i's and crossed their t's regarding this issue. This is not cheating and/or unethical. It is, in fact, well within the rules. That is all I have to say.

  5. All these teams are great, thats why they have made it this far. Volleyball is a tournament sport, and as such what a team has done in the regular season and district/region play goes out the window once they clinch that State tournament birth. I would venture to guess that most if not all of these 8 teams are primarily composed of girls who play volleyball all year-round. So these girls have likely seen and/or played against each other whether or not their respective high schools have matched up this year.

  6. Good post admiral...I think 7 of the 8 are pretty close...Ravenwood is a little scary though. Have you had a chance to see them, they are better than last year and they made DB look silly, and DB was unreal? Yikes. About half the teams have probably played each other, so there isn't as much pure mystery. I think the only team I haven't seen is Farragut. I think it will be ravenwood and Indy or SDHS...whoever wins that opening game.

BTW, I am pretty sure it is a blind draw, but I could be wrong...maybe a coach can chime in and tell us.

No I haven't had a chance to see Ravenwood. I guess it is coincidence that the Knoxville area team has drawn them in the first round each of the past 3 years.

  7. Can someone school me on how the seeds are drawn or selected?

As for projections, I don't think its wise to say one team is in a class all by itself. There is a fairly large discrepancy in the records that each team is bringing into Murfreesboro. In addition, the competition that each team has played during the regular season varies from region to region. One team's losses may have come against strong competition while another team's wins may have come against not-so-strong opponents, and vice versa. There's a reason they play the tournament instead of just ranking the teams a-la major college football. I will not predict a win or a loss for a team that I have not seen play.

I'm not sure that I agree with deviating from the traditional double-elimination format. In theory a team should have to be beaten twice in order to be eliminated from the field, however the team that comes out of the loser's bracket will have played an extra match once they reach the final match. I think this is a good way of evening the playing field for the winner take all championship contest.

It has been a very exciting season and I've enjoyed following it will all who post here. I think each area of the state is being wonderfully represented by the teams they are sending, and I wish everyone luck and good fortune. I also hope that the fans who attend represent their respective schools with enthusiasm, class, and sportsmanship.

    GO ADMIRALS!

  8. Farragut did tonight what they have set out to do all season long; prove that they are the best team in the Knoxville area. After a season's worth of debating about whether it would be Farragut, Anderson County, or cinderellas Hardin Valley or Catholic advancing to the sectional; Farragut took care of business on the main stage.

Both Anderson County and Farragut ran through their District regular seasons without much resistance, but while AC stumbled in post season play Farragut appears to be peaking at the right time. At the Region 2 tournament Farragut swept both Anderson County and Hardin Valley to advance to the sectional playoff game Thursday night. In both matches Farragut's onslaught of senior hitters were far too much for any opponent in the Hardin Valley gym to compete with. When Anderson County started strong in the first set Farragut regrouped and scored 5 straight points to take the lead 18-17. They would never fall behind by more than 3 at any other point in the tournament. A very strong Hardin Valley team seemed depleated after gutting out a victory against Catholic, and did not offer much competition in the final match. Farragut won easily, and were even able to give a few junior varsity players a taste of the Regional action.

There is always another day and another dog however, so after a brief celebration the focus of the Lady Admirals will turn to Morristown West, the runner up in Region 1. The season long goal of Farragut was not only to win the Regional Tournament, but to advance to State for the first time since the current seniors were freshmen. They'll get their chance to continue on their journey Thursday night 10/20 at the Farragut High School gym.

    GO ADS!

  9. Farragut swept the Region 2 tournament beating AC and HVA in straight sets. Hardin Valley and Catholic had the match of the night in the semifinal round, going to down to the wire in all 5 sets with HVA taking the match.

Farragut, however, was clicking on all cylindars and were not going to be denied the Region Title that has eluded them for the past 2 seasons. Senior OH Julia Alves (#12) was named the tournament MVP.

  10. PH I have no problem with bigblue but your rivalry with that poster is well documented; and your attempts to break down the Knoxville teams based on hearsay is costing you your credibility, just sayin.

You were so overwhelmingly anti Farragut early in the season, why the change of heart K2ruth? PS, I sat next to a woman at the district match who was cheering for both sides. Was it you?

As for the match against Catholic, Farragut lost their senior captain and middle hitter late in the first set, and she was unable to return. At that point the setter started going to the OH alot because she is arguably the best hitter on the team and is definitely the most athletic up front. The RH is playing great right now too and they should have gone to her more often to mix things up. All of the hitters for Farragut have great percentages when they swing. Tipping is the worst thing this team can do to themselves because there is only one player on the team who uses tips as a scoring opportunity with good placement.

The Freshman MH (#7) for Farragut who filled in singelhandedly won the tie breaking set for Farragut. It was very inspiring to see the talented freshman step up in a big situation, and the rest of the team fed off her energy.

Regionals at HVA will be great matches all night long. I'm not making any public predictions but I have a pretty good idea of how things will shake out. Hope to see all of you board lurkers there along with the 5 of us who post.

    GO ADS!!!!!

  11. I'm a little bit confused about bigblue's exuberence towards Farragut in this thread. I agree with almost everything thats being said, but I'm a little slower to predict domination because I hate the taste of crow. Is this more pro-Farragut or anti-AC?

  12. Pepvol, I'm not in favor of running any of the coaches off although I can see how my first post may have sounded like I was. In an age of mercenary coaches I respect those who stay around and build programs. Afterall its all about the student athletes, and stability helps them build character.

What I am in favor of is for the coaching staff to realize that Maryville is here to stay in 4-AAA and they will be on the schedule every year, most likely twice a year. Unless they're content with taking a loss each time they meet up they need to evaluate the play calling and the way they coach the team. Farragut laid down in the second half both on the field and on the sideline. Silly penalties were not addressed immediately and Farragut was completely out-played and out-classed by a much better Maryville team. Its very frustrating to watch a team who's coaching staff does not currently give them the tools to compete in the biggest game of the year; especially when the athleticism on each side of the ball matched up quite similarly.

All that said, I admire the Maryville program and their coaches for what they are able to do year in and year out. The players don't jaw with the other team, they hand the ball to the officials after every play, the offense is surgical, and the defense doesn't give up anything without a fight. I'd like to see them travel to Florida to see how they match up with a team like St. Thomas Aquienas or another highly ranked team. I think this team is being slept on by the national media.

  13. I haven't taken the time to sift through all 13 pages of this tread, and I don't plan to. I assume its a bunch of Maryville haters spouting off about recruiting, yada yada yada blah blah blah. Face it Farragut fans (I am one), the Ads got whipped by a tougher, more disciplined, and better coached team. Fact is, Maryville is in 4-AAA to stay and Farragut will NEVER beat them if they don't start thinking about shaking up the coaching staff.

The Admirals allowed personal foul penalties to turn in to points, they came out of the locker room after half time completely flat and already defeated, and the coaches, per usual made zero changes in the play calling schemes. Farragut can-out talent most teams in the area as they have this year, but the road to the state title will continue to go through Blount County until Farragut gets with the times schematically.

Is it that hard to stop an offense that seems to be drawn up completely on one sheet of paper? Is it that hard to run a spread option against a base 3-5 scheme when the safety is always on the strong side? Is it obvious that when the same player receives two personal foul penalties in one series that the coaches may want to have a talk with him? Is it obvious that you need to go to the air when facing a double digit deficit in the second half? All of this is apparent to the people in the stands (most of which were warming up their cars in the 3rd quarter), but it is falling on blind eyes where the coaching staff is concerned.

I feel bad for the players who are hamstrung in system that doesn't take advantage of their talents; and for the fans like myself who continue to pay $6 every Friday only to see the same lackluster offense. Some may read this and wonder why I'm so upset, the Admirals are 6-2 afterall. I'm upset because the program has the athlethes to compete, but has failed to evolve in the past 15 years; and I'm upset because they will not make it to the next level until they shake things up. I'm not holding my breath though.

  14. NOONE can beat farragut right now. Hate to say it but AC has NO chance. Maybe they would have the last couple of years but NO WAY NO HOW this year!!! FHS wins this easily!! Catholic vs HVA should be good. I call that one a toss-up.

Catholic would beg to differ. They had Farragut on their heels last night. I can see the final on Tuesday being a rematch of the district final. I'm not looking past AC though; can't afford to do that this time of year.

  15. The match is Tuesday 10/18 at Hardin Vally. I encourage anyone who's team may already be done or who just wants to see some high intensity matches to come out to HVA. Wear blue (preferably Navy!) and you won't go wrong. Farragut needs to re-focus after the scare that Catholic gave them and come out swinging for the fences. Hardin Valley is on fire as of late and their sweep of AC was no fluke. Post season is the real season here in Knoxville!

  16. Eventually when a topic has been run into the ground (see "Is it okay to lie about stats" and "Question for Admiralglasgow") it needs to either fall off the page or take a turn in a different direction to keep it interesting. Every good message board has its trolls. They are necessary to keep things going sometimes.

  17. PH..This is NOT protocol. If you want to ask people about their allegiance to a team please start another post. This topic has nothing to do with what you are straying to. I've told you before. Stay on topic!!! That's the problem with your replys. They typically have NOTHING to do with the original post. I ask you once more. Please stay on task..do not stray from the original topic. Startt a new topic if you would like but dont stray...

Don't worry PH, I got this.
