  1. Farragut can win this game but it will require a near perfect effort from the Admirals. They will have to control the clock with the run game, get their defense off of the field in a timely manner, and utilize the kicking game for points and field position.

Objectivly speaking I think Maryville will win the game, but I don't think they'll run away with it.

  2. Admiral, I think you misunderstood my post but I have understood yours. This site is for what you suggest but according to the posted rules would not be for the purpose of soliciting business. I don't think you are doing that but if someone was trying, to the explanation you have given, it would fit both. This site, from my viewpoint, is informational and fan based site. Every coach is invested in their team, some more than others. Some are teachers and some are not but a lot of systems require it. Yes, there are coaches who are not and are paid by various sources but there are rules in the Public School System to go by and generally there is a way to do it. Schools know it. I think I'm in an area which is gray since this thread is taking the road it is. BBV asked some questions about a coaching situation. I suggested a way of approaching it thru channels for a parent. That was safe and then gave him a secure vehicle to communicate with whoever he wants. I excused myself. What happens after that is history. CoachT runs this site and it is his. He makes the rules. I am really not used to a Coach being criticized by a poster on this site unless its done by the owner of the site. He can do anything he wants. If its done by a third party with the possibility of a financial interest, and I'm not saying it is, you can see the problem. He sells advertisement. All of that can be done a different way and is done that way all over the State. I am sure you are not involved in something like that and I don't care. But if you are I think for disclosure sake you need to say so. You then need to deal with CoachT. I am in the promotional end of the sport with my involvement, nothing financial. I am not not involved in a war between Clubs nor do I promote one against another. Thats financial and this is not as far as I'm concerned. Refereeing is an interesting term. Anytime anyone wants to contest the way this site is run, Coach T has an email. He is fair. You saying that tells me you dont have an understanding of the site. I am not a moderator. Each sport though does have a moderator. Coacht is an administrator. There is an organization. Your posts are insightful and thoughtful and personally I enjoy them. I enjoy every one who posts. I dont enjoy posters who misrepresent facts and downgrade coaches. Sometimes it done in a way of not understanding how the system works. Anyone can answer any post. I answer too many and have been told so but keeping the flow going has kept the site going. I am not affiliated with any organization and if there is any question from any poster as to whether rules are being violated by posting something,Coach T is the one to email and he will be prompt in answering or someone else will answer.

I am sorry you feel confined by this answer because if I were you I would feel so. I will always be for a Coach but nothing makes me feel more uncomfortable than to see a post not knowing from what angle its being written.

I am SURE you have a Web site and at times Play4Keeps gives posters the opportunity to put, for profit, information on the site for services rendered for this sport from all over the State for anyone interested.

Looking at your posts, I think I know where you are coming from with your post on this matter. If I have not given you due

recognition with anything I have posted, it has not been intentional but only facts that I have known them. You can get me @ PHargis@aol.com if this dialogue needs to continue or thru the email at Coacht.

    Too long; didn't read.

  3. Stat's are a great tool for coaches. Knowing how your team is hitting, passing, setting, and serving is a big key to choosing who is going to score points, make a pass or dig for you. You are right that parents and some coaches use these numbers the wrong way. The stat's are only as good as the person or people doing them. They are just numbers in the paper and the players that really live up to their stat's will see there name in the paper for bigger things.

  4. I hate to continue to beat a dead horse, but I'm going to. I was speaking of an isolated incident in which a parent called a player a name (not a bad one) to her face before her serve. Thats all. I'm a very competitive person and I understand how sometimes things can happen in the moment that you wish you could take back. I just thought that was a bit out of bounds. I have nothing but respect for what is a very good Soddy team, and I also respect that their fans travel well and are engaged in the matches.

PHargis - Farragut finished district play undefeated and only lost one set (to Catholic).

  5. AMEN Admiral G!!!! I, and several others, think that Farragut is under performing, and it is related to coaching!

    Are you a club coach?

No I'm not a coach, but I have come to really enjoy the sport over the past 4-5 years and have learned alot about it. Do any clubs/schools out there need assistants?

  6. In the last week CAK has beaten Catholic, AC, Bearden, Sullivan East and Karns. Very impressive for such a young team.

Thats pretty strong, definitely peaking at the right time! I have always looked at CAK as a great school and their athletics have certainly made huge strides in the past 5-10 years. I was very impressed with their administration several weeks ago when the Admirals played them at CAK. The grandmother of one of the Farragut players fell while climbing the bleachers and injured her leg. The AD and training staff were Johnny-on-the-spot with first aid, and were very friendly and more than accomodating from that point forward. Talking the talk and walking the walk. I hope all the programs across the state are as prepared as CAK's for situations such as this.

  7. Congratulations to the Lady Admiral Volleyball team in their win over Anderson County in three straight games (25-16, 25-17 and 25-21).

Last week they also defeated Catholic for their (undefeated in) DISTRICT TITLE (25-27, 25-10, 25-12 and 25-16). While the first game was a tight match won by Catholic, Farragut came back, re-grouped and defeated Cathlolic in the next three games.

First and only district set dropped by the Ads all season.

  8. I just read this whole thread and some of these posts are hilarious. You would think by reading some of the responses that Davidson had been accused of paying players or lowering the nets or something. Get real people. I'd say most of the people ITT who are so fired up about this have been taken to the woodshed by the Admirals at some point this season.

This is strictly my opinion because I am in no way an "insider" as some would like to believe, but I think if anything this is a case of Coach Davidson not knowing what consitutes an assist. There is no advantage to be gained for the team or the player by intentionally reporting false stats to a local newspaper publication.

  9. Wow, just now getting ITT and I don't know where to start.

If the stats in question we're derived from the Farragut Press Enterprise then they were recorded by Alan Sloan, the sports editor for that paper. I replied in another thread on the same topic and said that it could have a been a typo too.

As for the "500th win" thing, there is no way that Coach Davidson has even 500 set wins as this is only her second year as a coach. And that leads in to the fact that she is learning the game as she goes, so she may not know what constitutes an assist, kill, block, dig, or any other statistical category.

But honestly who cares? Its a number that gets printed in the paper, and anyone who knows anything about volleyball should be able to decipher an inflated stat as unrealistic. This is not a big deal and should not be a 3 page topic.

Stats are for losers imo and they're a great way of predicting the past, not the future. Stats don't mean a thing if your W-L column is heavy on the L side becuase this is a team sport. And Farragut's W-L column is certainly not heavy on the L's which is probably why so many shots are being taken at them.

  10. Everyone in Knoxville that follows volleyball knows who is keeping stats for Farragut. Volleyball stats are not rocket science.....it happens to be quite easy. The head coach is in charge of everything pertaining to the program. If she is not overseeing what goes out to the paper that is irresponsible. If she is and allows bogus stats to go out to the paper she should be fired. A good rule of thumb, for any program, would be to NOT have mothers of players keep stats.

I was told at the beginning of the season that Farragut's coach was going to record and report stats based on film of the match. I don't know if this is still being done, but I am almost positive that the stats that are kept at the table are not the ones that are reported to the media.

I'll throw this out there too...what is a better rule of thumb? No parent stat keepers? or No parent line judges? I have seen some very blatantly bad calls this season made by parents.

  11. I wouldn't go as far as to say its cheating because it doesn't effect the outcome of the match. And for the record this is a rumor and and cannot be confirmed. Could have a been a typo too. That behavior, if true, is pretty lame and I do not condone, but its not hurting anybody. Falsely reporting a score would be a bigger deal imo.

  12. Was this post in reponse to another post here that I missed, or is it just a bunch of random thoughts? I can't make heads or tails out of it to be honest with you. Maybe a complete sentence or two and a new paragraph here and there would help.

Don't hold your breath. Hargis writes books in every thread, sometime multiple books in a single thread.

  13. Farragut took care of business at home against AC tonight (10/3/11).

    25-16

    25-17

    25-21

It was an ideal start for the Admirals in what is the toughest regular season week for them so far. They host Oak Ridge on Wednesday for the annual "Pink Out" in support of breast cancer awareness, and a fantastic group of seniors will play their last regular season home match against a tough Webb team on Friday.

  14. Farragut took out AC in 3 tonight (10/3/11). Much has been made of this matchup over the past weeks and months on this board but when it came down to crunch time the Admirals prevailed. They did not play perfect but they knew going in that their best was better than ACs best and they proved it. The 3rd game was the closest as AC closed the gap from 23-18 to 23-21, but after a well-timed TO the Lady Admirals came out and put it away with an ace and a kill.

  15. Hey EASTRIDGER!

No one is blaming the loss on the fans. Both myself and loyaladmiral both noted that the Farragut team knew they had not played their best and they learned a valuable lesson about keeping up the intensity in tournament play. The only comments made about the fans were directed towards the unsportsmanlike conduct of the SD parents, and I won't back off of that. For the record I have no problem with noise-making in the stands. As a former athelete I know what its like to hear the crowd going crazy and get that chill down your spine telling you its "game time", and I wish there were more of these atmospheres in district play.

And why does having access to a tape make you think I'm a coach? Alot of people film the matches. I can assure you I am not a coach. If I were my team would have beat the brakes of off Soddy Daisy.

  16. I'm not a coach. The hitters must have been off after a long 2 days in which they played match after match after match with no breaks. They are typically quite a trio.

Haven't played Stone Memorial. I don't know anything about them.

  17. I didn't go to the Tandem but I have the tape. A few of Farraguts hitters do tend to shy away when the opponent's blocking is strong, but that can also be related to inconsistent sets and the fact that imo the sets are not evenly distributed. In order to go far a team's offensive attack has to be very multiple which at this point, Farragut's has not been. I'd love to post some blocking stats for you because I think you're wrong about that, but I haven't watched the tape yet. The hype regarding Farragut is based on conversations about who will come out of Knoxville, not who will win state. I still think Farragut will be there, but once there the whole game changes. The competition in 4-AAA is not strong enough to prepare a team for state, so they will have to rely on experience and resiliance garnered from club ball if they want to advance.

As far as Karns goes they graduated alot of the talent that made them what they were in the past few years. They are still a formidable team with a good coach but I don't see them getting past Anderson County.

  18. I didn't attend the tournament but I know the Farragut team was very disappointed in themselves for the way they performed in the later matches. They thought they could have done alot better. They were especially upset to find out that Blackman would have been their opponent had they made it to the finals, as they have beaten them twice already this year. Some of the Soddy parents chose to heckle the Farragut players during their serves which I think is out of line in a highschool match...students maybe, parents probably not. Show some class and cheer for your team, not against the other. No sour grapes here though. Farragut knows they could have and should have played better. That performance doesn't rule them out of state though becuase none of those teams will stand in their way in post season qualifying.

  19. Thanks for the clarification. Now if I may...

The forum does not make the users, the users make the forum. I understand there are rules, but in this case nothing slanderous or malicious has been said. When a coach is not invested in a team there is an issue. As I said earlier ITT the athletes in all sports put in way too much time and effort to represent their school and their classmates to not have that effort matched by their coaches.

In the post that you replied to I expressed a sign of things looking up for Bearden as they now have an assistant who is interested in coaching the players up so that they may realize their potential as individuals and as a team. Thats encouraging. If you are standing up for the Bearden coach then come out and say it, but until then don't discourage others from bringing fresh ideas and observations to the forum.

This forum serves a much bigger purpose than score updates and tournament schedules. It is an online community of fans, and a platform for us to share our thoughts and feelings as it pertains to highschool sports in our area. We don't need a referree.

  20. Solid victory from the Ads tonight but they still have a lot to work on if they plan on giving Maryville a run this year. Farragut's play calling was awful...A.W.F.U.L. Receivers were running open all over the West secondary in the first half but Rule was shaky early, overthrowing a few routes. Admiral ball carriers repeatedly ground it out between the tackles for 3 and 4 yard gains even though West had no outside contain. I'll give it to the coaches on the onside kick to open the second half but they ran the ball 3 strait times to the same gap for 1 yard and a 3-and-out. The whole second half was ground and pound for the Admirals after that. Farragut's win is attributed to 4 things:

1- Jonathan King's 51 yard FG to end the 1st half (would have been good from 58)

    2- Jacob Johnson's gritty effort (30 carries, 154 yards)

3- A bone headed call by the West staff to go for it on 4th and short in Admiral territory rather than kicking a FG that would have tied the game at 17 (I bet that star kicker felt good about that)

4- Farraguts defense stopping West twice with interceptions in the 4th quarter.

I would encourage Farragut's staff to look at the film and realize the potential of all the athelets that they have on the field. Don't be afraid to take some chances. heck you may actually win by a comfortable margin, and at the very least Johnson and the D will carry you.

  21. For those who have interest and may not know how things happen, many read this site and have interest in each sport. Doesnt mean this site has anything to do with play and shouldn't. Things happen for the best of all sometimes.

If this is in response to my post I'm not sure what you mean. Care to elaborate?

  22. Couldn't make it over to farragut last night. Thanks Admiral for the update. Wonder why all of a sudden an asst coach shows up for Bearden? Who won the catholic bearden game?

I'm not sure if she has shown up all of a sudden or if I just had not noticed her previously. Didn't see the final of bearden/cath.
