  1. Former44 has made some right on observations. Play calling has always been a handicap for the Farragut players. Having a new offensive coordinator doesn't help. I watched Maryville on Sunday, particularly comparing Quarles' play calling to Farragut's against OR. It was like comparing the Green Bay Packers to.......you get the idea. Fain has done a good job running but why not give Barnett some snaps. He has done a great job on kick offs being allusive and tuff to bring down. I seem to remember a few years ago there was another Farragut player that was used sparingly (played well when he did play) until near the end of the season. When they finally gave him a chance he averaged over 100 yards a game and I think over 200 in one game. Maybe Jordan Freeman?

    .

  2. Yes, Alcoa went 5 for 5 on offense. Farragut was missing 6 starters. #64, #74, #75, #60, #25 & #51 went out early and did not return. Some returned for the final scrimmage against Powell (who I believe went to the state finals last year), Powell did not score against the Farragut defense. Perhaps many of the over confident DB fans may be in for a surprise come Friday. The game may be closer than you think.

  3. Bearden has one top pitcher, Boyles, and others that will compete. Their recent strength is their hitting, up and down their lineup. They will destroy mediocre pitching. They could surprise everyone being in the weaker bracket and win it all.

It appeared the deck has been stacked against Farragut to make 5peat a real challenge.

Their 2 top pitchers out injured and placed in the bracket with Tennessee's top ranked teams:

    Upper Bracket

    2 Mount Juliet

    3 Riverdale

    5 Farragut

    9 Arlington

    Lower Bracket

    8 Germantown

    10 Bearden

    15 Walker Valley

    16 Franklin

If Farragut wins this one they will have to find pitching and hitting from players that haven't been very productive lately. If they can step up to the challenge TSSAA bracket placement will not stop the Ads.

  4. So who do you guys have winning these up coming games? I think the Halls Farragut game is a lot like the super bowl a couple years ago win the Patriots were undeafeated and lost to the Giants (by the way I was super drunk at the time and that's when I went to jail). I think Halls pulls the upset in this one!

I think you are still drunk.....no upset here!

  5. Farragut lost both games in a doubleheader last night.

    Tullahoma 1 Farragut 0

Blackman 5 Farragut 4 (First win over Farragut in school history)

Not sure about details for the games, other than the first game was won on an error by Farragut.

Ads have have some serious challenges in order to get back to state this year. Their top pitcher, Xander Taylor, is out for the year. Kyle Serrano out until about mid-April. Three freshman pitchers, Raby, Mosiello, & Lessig, have to step up and mature very quickly. So far, for the most part, they have. Freeman & Chambers have been excellent.

Remember, all teams will lose games. Farragut lost 8 games last year and still won state.

Also, next year all of their current pitching staff will be back. Only 2 seniors on their roster. The team is made up of almost half freshman and sophomores. GO ADS!!

  6. Farragut 7 Station Camp 4

Farragut got their 3rd win from another freshman pitcher (Lessig). Their first 2 game starters pitched in last week's district games, their preseason #1 (Taylor out for season) & #2 starter (Serrano out til approx. mid April). Three freshman pitchers stepped up and won all 3 games from some very good teams.

The Scenic City Classic displayed many of the best teams in TN.

  7. Great effort by both teams, it was a hard fought game.

The season ended much like it began for the Admirals. This game was very reminiscent of the Dobyns-Bennett game – one Farragut turnover deep in the opponent’s territory, and back-to-back Farragut turnovers in their own territory. Minus 3 in turnover margin is a tough hill to climb against a good team.

What a great job by young Mr. Phillips at QB.

I was really pleased someone woke up and got Jetton some snaps at receiver. He had a MONSTER game (5 receptions for over 80 yards – 2 critical 3rd down conversions which kept scoring drives alive – and an excellent job of downfield blocking, especially on Johnson’s long run, which set up another TD). Why it took so long to get this kid on the field in some kind of capacity as a receiver, I will never understand. In my opinion, he should have been targeted as soon as Madison Brown got hurt; it is impossible to overlook his talent. The sky is the limit for this kid.

Anyway, I know one thing for sure. I guess it won’t cause any harm if I continue to make a few suggestions in the future.

Thank you to a great group of Seniors. I really enjoyed watching you play.

I believe Farragut will be much better next year. It think it was obvious that Phillips is a much better QB that #4 and having a passing game along with the the returning OL to keep and improve the running game will give them a good chance to challenge for the district. Billy Williams & Jetton with a year under their belt, and having a QB that can pass, will significantly improve the offense. They need another back to go along with Frain and some defense replacements.

  8. It seems that the Blackman supporters are a little over confident. Just because Farragut did not play their best football at the end of season you are overlooking some very good football against some very good teams. They beat (Oak Ridge, Knoxville West and McMinn County) who have a combined record, not counting their loses to Farragut, of 23-4. Excluding their lose to Lenoir City at the end of season, their other two loses were to two undefeated teams, Maryville and Dobyns-Bennett, (7-14, by a last quarter TD). The only game that DB scored less than 40 points.

Looking ahead to your rematch with Riverdale may be a little premature. Be prepared for a surprise on Friday night. Farragut 24-21

  9. Over the next 2 weeks:

    1. To take pressure off the inside run game, Farragut MUST work diligently on some type of perimeter run to force the opposing defense to defend the C and D gaps. (At the very least, force them to acknowledge that C and D actually exist!)

Perfect the speed option. Big plays will result (inside and outside) for Rule, Johnson, and Fain. This could be especially effective from the unbalanced set with two backs – split the field in half – the defense would not be able to determine play direction so easily from formation. (Remember Cody, on the pitch, thumb under – throw that thumb at your target!)

    2. If Farragut is going to run 2 Tights, I suggest getting #18 Jetton some snaps at TE. This offense needs a TE that is rangy enough to run the seam route and catch the football, but also physical enough to block from 2 Tights (a la Madison Brown). If the defense knows the TE can hurt them in the passing game, it will make him an even more effective blocker. I know Jetton is crucial to the defense, and I wouldn’t want to wear him down, but I truly believe 18 could help the team getting some snaps at TE.

In addition, a big play threat back at TE will certainly make it a lot tougher to Safety double the WRs.

Your recommendations are right on. Unfortunately even if the Farragut coaching staff reads your thoughts they still will not deviate from running the same plays over and over again regardless if they are successful or not. They still may win against some lesser teams with this scheme but will not even have a chance against a team like Riverdale or Maryville. I think they have the talent to perform a lot better than what we have seen. My opinion, if they were coached by a more creative Quarles or Rankin type of coach they would be 5-0 and would have won every game by a larger margin and would have a better chance of beating Maryville. In spite of the unimpressive coaching the team's talent has them in position for 2nd place in the district.

  10. I originally thought this would be a close game until I watched Farragut play DB last night. They have no offense, an overrated QB that should be replaced and a running game that uses the same plays over and over again ...QB option, always to #14. DB figured that one out and the running game ended. Last year their second string QB was undefeated until he lost to Maryville in the playoff, like everyone else did. Absolutely nothing that is even a little creative on offense. Makes Quarles fall asleep watching. Their defense stepped up big but with the offense fumbling at least 3 times, all in DB territory, they were behind the eight ball most of the night.

    Oak Ridge 35 Farragut 10

Unfortunately I also have to agree. Maybe a new more creative coaching staff would help.

    Oak Ridge 28-10

  11. I would like to hear about the Farragut players and if they run the same offense they have ran in the past or if they mix it up. Who are the go to players? Predictions? Roll Tribe!!!!

Farragut runs pretty much the same offence as last year with #4, Cody Rule, being a good running QB and fair passing. No real deep threat but #9, Braden Urevick & #34 Madison Brown capable mid/short receivers. Potential break away running back in #14, Jacob Johnson. Strong offensive line and one of the best kickers in the area #17, Jonathan King. Defense is another story. If their results against Alcoa & Powell are any indication, much improvement is needed. Perhaps playing some good athletes both ways would help.

I haven't seen any DB scrimmages so I don't know how the team compares to last year. I think it will be a high scoring game with the winner making the fewest big mistakes. If Farragut stays close or is ahead in the 4th qtr, home field will be a winning advantage.

  12. I did not think Farragut look bad either. Pretty solid team. Punter is awesome.

Not sure what "not bad" means. When your defense gives up a TD on all of the other teams possessions, that is "bad" to me. No passing defense at all. Fortunately Alcoa's 1st team had only 3 offensive possessions (3 TD's). Farragut's subs did look better against Alcoa's subs. Kicker, #17, was great! DB next Friday will be more meaningful and really display what level this team can play at. I hope I am wrong in my interpretation.

  13. I have been a Farragut fan for many years. This scrimmage against Alcoa should be a concern for any Farragut football follower. If the team doesn't learn from this and significantly improve they are in for a long season.

The first team defense could not stop Alcoa period. It didn't matter if it was a pass or run.....first down after first down and then touchdown, every time they got the ball. Alcoa's running backs, didn't matter who, ran at will. Farragut's offense was the same as previous years, mainly using the same plays over and over again whether they worked or not. Future teams will know exactly what's coming and can easily adjust.

Even the difference in coaching on the field was apparent. Alcoa's gave animated immediate instruction when a player made a mistake or needed to make an adjustment. I wasn't sure if Farragut's was even there.

If they played a full game the score would have been 49-7 or worse.
