  1. GC looks to continue playing with intensity this week. We still need to clean up some ball handling issues and a few backs need some carries. Maybe even throw one to the tightend. You know.....live on the edge a little. Hope a lot of players get to see some time onthe field they have all been working hard.

We hope to see alot of your backups as well. Last week was the first time our opponent kept their starters in the entire game.

  2. You can't exactly "right the ship" against a jv team. You would get a better look against your scout team. They're sophomores...

A bit younger than that actually. The OL was supposed to be all sophomores but two have been injured and are just getting back. So two freshmen have started on the OL all year. The next two out of three off the bench are both freshmen as well. Obviously most of the OL play the DL. And four non linemen freshmen play extensive minutes on defense. There is size but not the strength and experience players get being in weight room and on the field for three years. Our team had no spring practice and no weight training until the new building opened in August. So yeah, it'a JV team for sure, but one that is getting better every week. Our QB is a baseball phenom with a big arm. Our top RB and WR played as freshmen for Independence. We were tied with Hickman County into the second quarter last week. I have no delusions that we have a chance this week. But the future is bright. We have Spring Hill at home in a couple weeks...maybe we can make that a game. We won't get many chances in this district for series leads tho as next year is probably our last in AA. Summit opened with 540 students this year (so it's amazing that we had 60 players on the football team) But in two years we're projected to have a population of over 1300. So we'll probably be playing in Indy's district in AAA as a 5A school. The Summit players know the deal. But they also know that no JV is getting the experiences they are getting. As my son told me..."I get four years of Friday night football. And in two years we are going to be difficult to deal with." I agree.

  3. I am sure you are but stay in your zone.

I'm not sure what you mean by "stay in your zone." All the girls who play for Summit are zoned for Summit. Summit was created out of Independence HS. A few Page neighborhoods were re-zoned by the School Board into the new Summit district as well. We are on the Williamson County side of Spring Hill. Every sophomore we have either went to Indy or Page last year. Every freshman we have thought they were going to Indy or Page two years ago until the Williamson County Commission approved the building of a new high school to relieve overcrowding at Indy. The Summit students had no choice but to go to Summit. There is nothing untoward going on if that's what you were implying.

It's also probably the reason why Justin Lamb won't be writing about Summit. He's in Maury County and Summit is in Williamson.

  4. This that been a great season so far for Summitt high School and Coach Warren Riker. This new school, with the first season in its history with only freshman and Sophmores, have won 6 matches in this season. This will be an outstanding record for the school and hope he is being recognized along with the team for all of their efforts.

The Summit family is thrilled with Coach Riker and the job he's done this year. The girls gave Spring Hill HS everything they could handle recently before falling in four. Coach Riker has a lot of young talent to work with and he manages it very well. His players were bound for either Independence or Page before the re-zoning, but mostly Indy. So they have high expectations to go along with their talent. All they need is experience. They may be facing mainly juniors and seniors but they are not intimidated. The future is very bright for the Lady Spartans volleyball program.

  5. Summit volleyball surprises in 1st year

Summit High School’s volleyball team is 6-11 six weeks into the season and 5-5 in its district.

What most people don’t realize, though, is that with the Thompson’s Station-area school opening this fall, the team consists of 10 freshman and just three sophomores.

“Even though we are a brand-new program, we practice hard and encourage each other,†sophomore Hannah Rolen said. “We don’t blame each other. We know we win together and lose together as a team.â€

    Consistency is key

In molding a first-year program, Coach Warne Riker said the emphasis is on “consistency and to not be afraid of making mistakes.â€

“I say this all the time: ‘Go out there and make mistakes and then try to recover from those mistakes. Don’t be afraid to make the mistakes, and then go from there,’ †Riker said.

And obviously, youth has led to some mistakes.

“Inexperience has hurt us a little, but winning on the court has given us a lot of confidence,†Rolen said.

“We have leadership, don’t get me wrong, there’s definitely leaders out there on the court,†Riker said. “We just don’t have that experience you normally have with a school that has juniors and seniors that have been in that program for a while.

“This is the program. We’re six weeks into it, and so they are all looking at each other to see who is going to be that leader and who is going to step it up each day and each time. There usually is one or two. Some girls are the leader on the court whether they want to be or not, and the others just naturally look up to them in that role.â€

The Spartans were 6-9 before the Centennial High tournament this past weekend, and they are looking forward to their next tournament this weekend at the A-Game Sports-plex in Franklin.

“We have been working really hard and really want to win because we are so little,†freshman Anna Rash said. “Other teams aren’t expecting us to win any games, considering we are freshman and sophomores playing varsity teams who have more experience.â€

Few have expected the results the Lady Spartans have produced, and they have been resilient.

“There’s times where they can have a meltdown, and then the next thing you know, they’re going after it again the next time,†Riker said. “They are always trying to go after the challenge.â€

  6. It will be interesting. EH will probably be the youngest team next to our own that we play this year. That will take away a lot of the discrepancy we've encountered. The common opponent was Loretto and we lost while EH won. It will be close if Summit can pick a few of all the passes coming our way. A few pick 6's and this game could go either way.

  7. My two cents as Lewis County and Page were our (Summit's) most recent opponents. I think they are about evenly matched. Page seems bigger overall while LC seems to have more team speed tho #2 for Page is a burner. I'd say LC has the better QB but someone told me Page didn't play their starter. All I know is #5 played the entire game at QB for PHS. Page faced our second string QB and RB b/c Summit's starters did not play due to being knocked out in the LC game. So it's hard to say how the defenses factor into this. I think we had more first downs against LC. Page played their backups almost the entire game while LC played their starters longer. Both teams took knees against us late in the game so the final scores aren't reflections of how things really went. I think it is going to be a war and a great game.

  8. #13? I sure hate to call bbs and yourself a liar, BUT I know that young man very well, and he is nothing but class and hard work.I was at the game, and I've watched the film a couple times, and didn't see any kind of poor sportsmanship. All I saw was a JV team getting the crap kicked out of them by an improving LC team. Don't be so sore, just because our guys had a few good shots, it's called football. If you don't want the kids to get hit, then take them out of the game, and give them a set of pom-poms. It's not like they don't have equal opportunity to line up and hit us as well. Summit is going to be atop the 6A rankings in a few years.

I don't mind calling bs on you. Check your film again. LC was flagged 15 yards for a personal foul. The foul was an extremely late hit on our QB. Surely your film shows that. And look again on either the first or second TD run. There was an obvious attempted trip by your player. If it wasn't 13 on either of those I apologize. But it was someone wearing your jersey. And he was the talk of our fans for the way he was conducting himself. Your snide pom pom remark is low class as well. Our freshmen and sophomores are well aware of the difficult task of playing upperclassmen all year. We didn't have a choice as Indy kept our Junior and Seniors. And we had to jump right in playing varsity b/c of the scheduling cycle. Otherwise we would have had to wait two years and play just JV. It will make us better and we don't mind good shots...had a few ourselves as your film shows. Must have been embarrassing getting blown up by a JV'er. But what we do mind is poor sportsmanship. LC had plenty of that.

  9. Summit fan here....kudos to the coach for acting with class and taking a knee at the end of the game when he had a chance to pad the score. And though I am new here, I would imagine it is taboo to specifically call a player out. So I will just say to the young man who gave a blatant late-hit cheap shot to our QB at the end of the first half, that was the complete opposite of class. It also wasn't the first time he took liberties in the game. I saw one other late hit that was not called as well as an attempted trip of a would be tackler on a TD run. So to future opponents of LC, keep your head on a swivel when the player with the unlucky number comes calling.

  10. As a parent of a Summit football player I apologize for the poster trying his best to make us look foolish. Since this is an Indy thread I'll say that Dyson has stated in the paper that Summit wanted to play the Eagles this year but Dyson didn't think it would be good for his team. I tend to agree. No reason to risk injuries in what would amount to a scrimmage against a 4A school playing only freshman and sophomores. There is nothing to be gained for IHS. Summit and Indy will meet plenty in two years when the Spartans are re-classified into Indy's region.

And as a great friend of the father of #53 for the Eagles, I want to wish Indepedence the best of luck this year. I'm glad his boy is back in action. They live down the street and I've watched the son grow from the SH Raiders into a big, mean, talented, lineman. It's a shame Spring Hill was split the way it was. I was looking forward to my son playing with #53. But it is what it is and I look forward to my four years of Friday night football.

    Good luck against Blackman!
