  1. Do you see what happens when we throw it every down? Didn't I say this season lives and dies on the legs of August? We should've beat them 4tds, summit didn't even have their best Rb!

Summit not having TC tonight does make the win that much more surprising. But Coach BC is putting his stamp on the program and the future is bright for the Spartans.

  2. Can someone provide me a link or copy of the district/regional tournaments?  Thanks in advance.

I don't have a link but the 11AAA district tourney starts at Summit HS today at 4:30

Summit v. Centennial with the winner getting Brentwood tomorrow.

    Ravenwood v. Independence at 6:00

Franklin v. Dickson Co at 7:30 I think.

Winners of these two matches to face each other tomorrow.

  3. CAK has the most talent in Knoxville and I would expect them to be the favorite to win the state. However, Catholic and Sullivan South both did better in the Early Bird. I really liked SS setter, number 1.

Saw the SS setter tonight at the BIT. She's great both setting and hitting. Don't know what year she is but she will play big time college volleyball if she wants to.

  4. Thanks for the info.........I'm going to the Brentwood vs. Indy game tonight

You're welcome. It should be a short night for you! Indy is struggling. At least you'll get to see three sets. If you really want to get your money's worth you should come to A-Game tomorrow. The Brentwood Invitational starts at 4:00 and carries on through to Saturday night. 32 teams including the two best in TN (Webb and Brentwood) and three of the top six teams in Alabama including #1 Mountain Brook.

One thing I forgot to say about Ravenwood is that half their freshman team will be the starting varsity at Nolensville HS next year. The three freshman players who are on their JV and two frosh on their varsity will remain at RHS though. And a thought about Franklin...their coach is married to the Spring Station AD and they live in Spring Hill. If the Summit job ever opened up I wonder if she would consider it. Not saying she would. For all I know her husband maybe looking to go to FHS.

  5. To answer your initial question instead of asking my own.....

I don't think this will be particularly opinionated or even very helpful. And some of it you probably already know, but.....

At the moment you couldn't go wrong with any of those four choices. They are all well coached teams. But you're not looking at the moment.

Brentwood is Brentwood. The only question is how long will BC continue to coach. My guess is at least another 3-5 years. Her freshman class, whether by moving, grandfathering, or promotion from BMS, is loaded with talent. She has a few more championships in her.

Ravenwood and Centennial are kind of in the same boat. Both have first year coaches with proven track records, similar calm demeanors, stocked with very good talent in the younger grades, and Alliance ties. I think both those programs are going to be tough to deal with in the coming years.

Franklin is a good story this year. Their second year coach (who won a state title at Boyd Buchanan) is getting it done. They are beating everyone in District 11 AAA not named Brentwood. She also has a few talented sophomore and freshmen players. She is switching over to Alliance this club season so maybe she will be able to encourage a few more girls to play year round. That would help the overall program.

  6. No, my son graduated from BGA a couple years ago.  I have two that will be in middle/high school at the same time so the thought of paying $50k a year is tough.  We are weighing all our options at the moment.

Gotcha. Didn't mean to set you up. I was going to say if you were leaving BGA and played at CW then you would want to consider other club options as well b/c your days as a ones dad would be over.

  7. Need to bounce something off all TN high school volleyball fans/parents but especially the Mid Tenn folks.

I have a middle school aged daughter who loves volleyball and has been physically gifted.  She plays travel and has been on the 1 team every year she's played.  We are moving but staying in Williamson county.  Here's my question:  If everything between Brentwood, Centennial, Franklin, and Ravenwood high schools were the same (academics, location, teachers), what high school would you want your daughter to attend based on the current volleyball program and its future 5-7 years down the road?  I know this is very subjective and will generate opinionated replies but thats what I want to hear..........Thanks in advance

Leaving BGA? What Club does your daughter play for RM?

  8. Summit may not have a lot of seniors, or size, or depth but they have a core group of juniors who know how to win and overcome adversity having gone undefeated as 8th graders and winning the Wilco middle school championship. They have worked very hard to get this Summit varsity team to this point. The OL is young but better coached this year than in the past with the addition of Coach M to help out. And the play calling is much better with BC taking over the duties this year. I'll take the Spartans in a close one.

  9. Saw Webb play Baylor tonight. Both very good teams. I don't know which team won as I was keeping my eye on another match. But Baylor seemed to be in control and then Webb would make a run. Then Baylor would pull a little bit ahead. Both teams have very good setting and back rows. Both well coached teams based on the level of play I saw in a preseason game. It was fun match to watch.

  10. Thanks for that correction.

How did the Riverdale scrimmage go? I think Franklin plays them in either the 2nd or 3rd game this year.

Riverdale won 21-0. It's really hard to take away much from the scrimmage. Not much intensity or sharpness. And it was Summit....

  11. Based on court and location assignments (4 different schools were hosting) it's almost a certainty that HV played DB. I didn't see them play but they must have. My guess is that HV would've won but that's just a guess. I don't know if either of them played TN High but it's less likely for the same reasons...court and location assignments.

I havent seen Bearden or Farragut play this year so i couldn't predict just yet. I'm also curious to see how Siegel looks. But the top three AAA teams I saw at the camp were in order: Brentwood, Ooltewah, and TN High. Houston and Centennial looked good too.

I dont know if South was there. Dyersburg was but I didn't get a chance to see them play. AA should be interesting this year.

I did get to see D2 AA Briarcrest play. Very good team but their players and parents need to show a little more class. They acted like every point was the state championship winning point. A healthy dose of situational awareness would be good for that program.

  12. Saw DB, Walker Valley, Hardin Valley , Tennessee High, and Ooltewah play last weekend. TN High had a good run thru the BHS Team Camp. But Ooltewah looked great. Best player I saw from those five teams was the middle from OHS. Think her last name was Killingsworth. Or something close to that. She was dominant.

  13. Brentwood is loaded with hitters. Simply loaded. Senior Kaela Massey is the best middle in middle TN. Then they have junior outside Kamryn Carter, sophomore outside Garrett Joiner, and a 6'1" freshman outside who is already getting D-1 looks. Then they have a great libero in Lil Schwarz.

Catch Centennial OH Emily Brooks and Ravenwood RS Sophia Cerino. Both very powerful hitters.

As for setters the best one is Harpeth Hall's 6'1" Lauren Bars. I'm 90% sure she's right handed but she uses her left one very well. Also Page's senior setter Riley Rapert is very athletic and runs the court very well.

  14. I'm saying the Lewis County AD is a pitiful person for setting these examples.  He is bias and should not vote in the private/public split because he has no interest in what's best for the TSSAA or even the other schools in his district.

All he cares about is little ole Lewis County and all the rings they can get...and that's fine but he needs to quit being two faced about it.  He should not be allowed to vote on such an important matter when he is completely bias.

The bias/ voting issue aside, I am sure every school in the LC district is cheering the AD's efforts. And of course he wants rings, so does CPA. That's why CPA doesn't offer financial assistance; so they can beat up on the rural AA schools and stock their trophy case. What the LC AD wants more is a level playing field and for CPA to be placed with the other private schools that recruit...not offer financial assistance mind you...but with the schools that recruit. It's all about fairness and there is nothing fair about CPA being in the public school division. Moving them with the other private recruiting schools is what is best for the TSSAA in my opinion.
