  1. DDaddy...Thanks for the recap of the big play. Unfortunately, News 2 in Nashville didn't have that play on their highlight reel. Sounds like an exciting game. Had a chance to see a couple of clips of Westview vs Milan from early in the season. Westview is big, strong and athletic. You must have a great team to have beaten them. Look forward to having you guys in the Den next Friday. Enjoy your Thanksgiving. Our boys will be practicing before they get any Turkey.
  2. I hated that it got chippy at the end. The refs could've reigned it in better. Jacketman, the Mizzou lineman is big 74 Paul Adams. He was LT on O and DT/DE in our 3-4 scheme. CPA players do not have stats of Fairview players but I think you saw why tonight. We spread the ball around and it's really hard to key on one or two players. Had several guys come up big tonight on D including #76 Sam Johnson. Thought he played well and had a huge sack and strip.
  3. Field was pretty torn up after tonight. Don't know what Coach Martin would be thinking at this point. Field conditions affect play. It was difficult at times for RB's to decisive cuts. We have moved a playoff game to MBA in the past as they have a turf field. I would prefer we move it to Brentwood Academy (also has a turf field) down the street if it gets moved for field condition reasons. We agreed to let BA play in our stadium in Week 1 (2nd week of the season) while they were finishing renovations. They finished renovations on time and didn't need it. Maybe we call in the favor since BA got knocked out tonight by Ensworth.....or maybe we just slug it out in the mud!!!! Tell me about the last TD pass tonight for Lewis Co. Radio made it sound like a Hail Mary. Was it better than the one from the Auburn / UGA game? ha! Look forward to having Lewis Co up next weekend.
  4. Fairview came ready to play tonight. Fairview was stacking the box with 8 men and employing the "bear crawl" / submarine technique with their DL and stacking things up in the middle. CPA missed on some early passes and the game looked like a defensive struggle early as both teams traded punts several times and CPA couldn't do anything with an early turnover from Fairview. It was the first time all year anyone has forced 3 three and outs in a row on CPA to start the game. But CPA's defense played well also and wouldn't allow Fairview to get their run game going either. Fairview didn't get much of a vertical passing game and instead had to rely on a bunch of WR and RB screens to move the ball. Fairview had one good drive in the first half after CPA's first score but it was thwarted on a pass to the endzone from the 19 yard line on a critical 3rd and 8 when Andrew Manuel picked off Hunter Zimmerman in the endzone. On defense Fairview dared CPA to beat them throwing the ball playing all 3 WR's press man early and loading 8 in the box even when CPA tried to spread them wide. CPA eventually made some nice adjustments and ran outside zone runs with Hockaday for the first TD and then Weatherly lit up the defense with over 200 yards passing in the first half. Most of it on two long throws to Richard and a 90 yard TD to JR Osborn after the first Manuel Interception. It was just too much to ask Harvey, Moore and Jordan to cover the CPA WR's in press man all night. Weatherly made a few nice passes and Richard and Osborn made plays on the ball. Eventually the Fairview DB's backed up some but by then the come back routes started working and CPA was able to mix the run and pass and keep the Fairview defense off balance most of the night. CPA had it 1st and goal inside the 5 at the end of the half but did not manage the clock well and Fairview was able to stop them at the on successive running plays and the clock ran out despite CPA's efforts to call time out. Fairview got an early score to start the 3rd quarter but CPA answered with a good drive on several long runs by Hockaday up the middle. Fairview couldn't really get it going on offense most of the night but added a couple of late scores including a nice long TD to Harvey on a quick slant with about 5 mins left and the final one on a halfback pass as time expired on the very last play of the game. Hard fought game on both sides. Fairview has a good team and had a great season. I thought the CPA Defense played extremely well and really slowed down an offense that was averaging 43 points a game. Fairview had only been held under 30 points once on the season coming into the game. They had 0 points at the half and only 14 points until the last play of the game. Fairview runs so many different formations and plays. Have to give credit to Coach Taylor for preparing the CPA defense for everything they had to defend and the CPA players for executing a great game plan. I also thought both CPA QB's played really well and gave Fairview two totally different looks to defend. Hockaday ran the ball extremely well and Weatherly connected on a several really long throws to his receivers. Five different guys caught passes for the Lions. Hard to key on just one player when they do that. I do hope these teams can play more often. No reason not to play if they are only 18 minutes apart. Chance for a great rivalry there. I know Coach martin would gladly schedule a non conference home and home if coach Hughes is up for it. Hope they can get it on the schedule in the future.
  5. Field is likely going to be pretty sloppy. It sits in a natural floodplain and does not drain well. We over seeded with rye twice in the last month and there is evidence of new grass through the dormant turf but the soil underneath is going to be saturated with water. I expect it to be pretty sloppy conditions by the the 2nd quarter.
  6. Thanks LewisCo for the kind words above. At the risk of offending my new Fairview friends...I have to give the parwnts on here some advice. Go buy a big box of Tide with bleach today. Those white jerseys are gonna get really muddy tonight especially on the backside. Coach Hughes will want them washed and clean before your boys turn them in on Monday. 😂😂 In all seriousness...travel safely. Bring a poncho. See you tonight in The Den.
  7. I'm a casual DII fan of the tbig 3 teams from Nashville. (Yes, you can actually pull for MBA, BA, and Ensworth if you don't have a dog in the fight and have friends with kids at all 3.) I enjoy following them from a far as my kids go and play elsewhere. But I have one question for Ensworth fans and people that follow them or play against them. Does anyone think Ricky should give the sophomore QB a shot if Settles struggles in the passing game again this week. Several of my friends and I think the sophomore is the better passer. Just wondering if people that follow the program more closely than us agree?
  8. Earlier in this thread I think I remember someone mentioning #22 for Fairview had been injured. What's the story there? Is he back to 100%?
  9. Joseph Richard plays basketball as well. Weatherly played last year but I don't he's playing this year. CPA needs those football guys with their schedule. They're. Playing Oak Hill the night after the state championship in football.
  10. Fairview has a great team with great coaches and players. They should feel very confident. But so does CPA and they should feel confident as well. Athough statistically CPA doesnt have the total points and yards on offense that Fairview has. Can the stingy CPA Defense (giving up 11.5 pts per game and just 4 pts in first 3 quarters) stop the Fairview offensive juggernaut? (43 PTs per game). Can CPA OL block those LBs and get the running game going? Fairview has two DBs with 11 ints between them. Who forces a turnover? Who gets a special team big play? This will be the closest game for CPA since Brentwood. But I think CPA wins it in the trenches. 31-21
  11. Whatever strategy CPA employs to block the DL...it's critical to get a hat on #22. He's a beast and very active.
  12. Prayers going up right now Cyanide Metal. My dad beat cancer a few years ago...illness is tough on a family no matter the age or circumstances. We'll all be praying.
  13. Very impressed with what I've read and heard about Coach Hughes. CPA and Fairview should play in the regular season every year. Too close not to do it.
  14. Don't let a little rain keep you away..... But share this link with grandparents and out of town relatives. The game will be broadcast online. http://www.nfhsnetwork.com/channels/cpa
  15. Swarm...it's grass...but this time of year it starts to be a mixture of grass and mud. We overseeded a bunch of rye after week 10 since the normal turf is dormant by this time of year. The field is definitely starting to show wear after all of the middle school, JV, and varsity football games and girls soccer games held there this fall. It sits in a natural floodplain and soaks up a lot of water and doesn't drain that well. Coach Brandon works miracles with the turf but honestly I would expect it to be a little sloppy especially if it rains on Friday like it did this past week. Two good running teams will fight it out in the trenches.
  16. Cyanide...I was at the Giles Co game....tremendous effort on CPA's part. Giles looked very good on film and CPA was ready and prepared and played with great effort. Giles Co was not ready for what hit them. I don't think anyone expected it including our own fans and coaches for that matter. I think their coaching change and associated penalties (limited spring practice and 7 v 7) had them behind in terms of preparation and I don't think they thought we were any good, but I could be wrong on that part. They are obviously playing better now with the way they manhandled a good Pearl Cohn team. That was my only point...I think Fairview today is better than Giles in week 2. But I think Giles today is better than Giles in week 2. Not taking anything away from CPA. But CPA will have to be similarly prepared and ready to face Fairview in order to win. When I'm typing these posts...I try to be more like a Vince Dooley than say a Lane Kiffin. No need to be brash or arrogant on a high school message board. That being said...I am as proud of CPA as any fan out there so I probably err or being prideful at times. I do think we will win if we come out and play our brand of football, but if we get caught flat footed and over confident then Fairview has the athletes to beat us. I think we have a distinct advantage in the trenches which hopefully will be the difference in the ball game as it has most weeks. I think we have home field advantage which also helps. Fairview has great athletes... but I like the way we tackled East's great athletes last week in space. That gives me confidence we can do it again this week and beat Fairview. Fairview is better coached than East in my opinion and will come out prepared to play with a good game plan. We need to be ready as well.
  17. Fairview has a great team. Appears to be the stiffest test CPA has faced so far this season as we caught Giles Co early in the season before they were fully primed. 2, 5, 8, 22, 23, 25, and 44 are really good players. That's enough athletes along with great coaching to make a championship run. Coach Hughes is an offensive mastermind. They are very multiple on offense with lots of different sets and formations to prepare for defensively. CPA has their work cut out for them but I know their coaches have constructed a great game plan to stop the Jackets. Big test will be up front in the trenches. Looking fwd to a great game.
  18. Thanks Jacketman 89. Looking forward to a great game. Hope you enjoy your visit to the Den. If anyone has season stats on Fairview they would be appreciated. I'm helping to put together a press kit for several sports writers expected to be in attendance. Have all the CPA stuff. Not finding stats on Fairview on the web. We'll get roster info from the coaches. Just want kids accomplishments to be recognized. Thanks.
  19. Someone post a preview for Fairview with key player names and stats. Howdy did a good job earlier but didn't post player names. I think i know Dteshad Moore is #2 . How many yards does he have rushing and receiving? What is the QB name and class? Whatever are is stats? What is big #22 name? How many yards? Thanks in advance?
  20. Apache, you make good points as does Wiseman Giles. I'm better informed for having read your posts. My biggest point is our turn around is with the same kids and is more about coaching than anything else. But you are right in that Private schools have some advantages in attracting families with kids that are athletes. Families of athletes want their kids to play for great coaches with great morals and integrity. CPA has that and is an attractive option. Also think the open zone enrollment system in some counties gives those schools advantages as well. Maybe the multiplier should apply to those schools as well. In Tennessee more public schools win state championships in football across all classifications than private schools. Look at the numbers the last four years. That being said I see where the system can get abused and where some believe its not fair even with a multiplier. We're going to compete to the best of our ability within the system we have and do our best to offer solutions in the future that foster fair competition and an ability to build positive relationships with community schools. We want to be the kind of school that if we suddenly went away that our neighbors would say "we miss those guys". I think if you called the head coach at Whites Creek, Pearl Cohn , Mapelwood or Stratford you would hear that sentiment from a relationship standpoint. But you might hear the opposite from the coaches at some other schools. I realize we get a lot of criticism. I'm not naive either.
  21. Slim88, I know of the kid you mention. Great, great athlete. I was told several times that his single mother worked two jobs to be able to pay for his education at CPA. CPA is just over half the cost of some D-2 private schools. The school was not able to give him any financial aid nor could they accept payment from a booster. He might have been on work study and allowed to work for part of his tuition. That is allowed under TSSAA rules as long as payment is at a fair wage for work performed. Most kids on work study do most of it over the summer. He went Ole Miss to play football but transferred to UTC and played basketball. Heard he was doing well at UTC.
  22. Wiseman, I get what you're saying. But I am hopeful our programs can become good neighbors as well as spirited rivals without hate or negative comments. The reason we choose to remain in 3a vs division II is that unlike Ensworth who you also played we do not and have not offered financial assistance to any players on our team. The Tennessean posted the number of athletes at Ensworth, BA, and MBA that receive financial aid. It's a pretty big number at each school. We do not have the same resources as those schools. In lower division II single A we initially felt like the travel distances were too great and lack of natural rivals nearby made it less attractive. The irony is we now travel pretty far but our original intent was to remain in 10-AA. We have enjoyed very strong relationships with coaches and athletes from neighboring community schools like Whites Creek, Stratford, Mapelwood and Pearl Cohn. If we only played other private schools we wouldn't be able to build some really positive relationships we have with those programs. We were disappointed to be moved to 12-AA initially but now are very excited about it. We still play Mapelwood and Whites Creek but we now get the full Friday Night Lights one community, one team experience traveling to places like Giles Co and Marshall Co. Those were my favorite road trips of the year this year. Had amazing dinner at two great restaurants before the games and great fan experiences at the game. We were in awe of your beautiful stadium and press box at Giles Co. Last year when we played Cheatham County we were so impressed with their community pride. Loved seeing all the Go Cubs signs in the store windows. We are excited to experience more of that in 12-AA. I'm very hopeful that fans at Fairview will feel welcomed to the Den on Friday. We want to be good neighbors as much as or more than spirited rivals. Some of my fellow CPA fans responses don't always reflect the hospitable spirit I hope you find. At CPA. If my responses have been too prideful im sorry if I offended anyone. Sometimes the things that get said in a public vs private debate bring out hurt feelings. That's regrettable. I'm more of a fan of great high school football and want more of that being discussed rather than the stuff said in public pvt debates. Like most of my friends at CPA I choose to send my kids to CPA for the spiritual aspect included as part of their education. for example I wanted them to be able to have teachers that could openly pray for them when they make mistakes. I've had my kids in both public and private schools and respect what teachers at both places do. I'm a product of public schools. Just because I choose private school for my kids doesn't mean I want them to only play private schools. In fact I think competing against great schools like Giles Co or Fairview gives them a great experience and they will be richer for it. Look forward to having you in the den next year! And welcome Fairview Yellow Jackets.
  23. Apache, I'm sorry my post struck a nerve. This issue must run pretty deep with you. I'm not posting to provoke you or others but just to respond to things that are not true about CPA. Our recent success has opened the door for a lot of criticism that isn't true. I realize that private schools have some advantages like coaches salaries, ability to have kids from a wider area and in some cases better facilities. This is why we have a multiplier. CPA has about 200 boys in grades 9-12 from which to pull a football team. Most teams we play have almost two times that number or more boys. CPA was 8-13 in the first two years of 3A ball. Many parents at the school suggested we couldn't compete with the larger, faster boys from the bigger public schools. Instead our administration made a tough decision to change coaches. The new coaches working with the same athletes have gone 37-3 the last 3 years. There has been no new influx of kids. In fact the new staff is working with the same kids that have always been there. As far as CPA goes in terms of level of athletes.....There are a grand total of 2 kids with college offers on CPA's team this year. A few underclassmen might get one in future years but its way early to tell. One kid with an offer has been at CPA since elementary school and the other since middle school. Neither was recruited to play football as you suggest. The leading passer and top three RB's in rushing yards have been at CPA since K. The leading tackler has been there since Kindergarten. Both safeties since kindergarten. Both OLB since kindergarten. Only 2 kids that even play in the two deep started at CPA in HS. One came over in 9th with all his siblings. He Just now starts as a junior. One transferred from another private school but sat out a year as required by TSSAA rules. About 75 percent of the two deep roster started at CPA in elementary school. And the rest started in MS except those 2 I mentioned. Plain truth is CPA does not recruit kids to play football. If we did then we would've been recruiting at area preschools 10-12 years ago. You give me one example of a kid recruited to play football at CPA that was offered some type of extra benefits and it proves to be true and I will quit posting forever. We played Pearl Cohn a few years back and they boasted something like 7 kids with college offers on 1 team. The only way CPA competes with the athleticism of East, Mapelwood, Pearl Cohn, Giles Co etc is with hard work, preparation and great coaching. Come see us play. You won't see a bunch of D-1 recruits. You will see a bunch of great kids from hard working families that are disciplined and believe in their coaches and Give tremendous effort to execute a great game plan. I'm sorry if that offends you for me to say that but it's true. The facts are that public schools still win more Gold balls than privates across all classifications 1A to 6 A. So public schools still control the landscape by a wide majority. So why all the hate for private schools?
  24. Great post Howdy...you've obviously watched both teams. Does anyone have a link to a Fairview roster or stats page? I did not see either on the web. Fairview is a little bit of everything on offense. #8 the QB is getting better and better and throws the ball well. The backs are #s 2, 5, and 22. They'll also run 23 and 25. All of those guys are also dangerous pass catchers. The offensive line is not huge but they are very scrappy. On defense they are a 3-4. They are very small and quick up front. Their linebackers #s 22 and 5 are guys who've played a lot of football. In the secondary they mix up coverages well and have a lot of athletes to put back there. #14 is the place kicker and he does a good job.
