  1. Everyone knows you can't look at a box score and tell about a game. Foul shots at the end make a game look worse than it was. You don't see situations in box scores. you don't see that Waverly was ahead in the game with Cheatham last night mid way in the 3rd quarter and then went cold and couldn't buy a basket. You don't see that their starting shooting guard didn't play. These were two very evenly matched teams. And from what I've seen, I believe that there is not a dimes difference in the number 1 team and the bottom teams. It will be a very interesting district tournament to say the least. I think Cheatham is a good team but they are not great and are in first now and possibly seeded that way, but I don't think they will win the district tournament. It is anyones for the taking. Honestly the most impressed I've been with a team in the girls so far is Creek Wood.

Waverly didn't play very well the second half and them missing the extra point guard was noticeable. Does anyone know when Frankie will be back? Waverly's defense was great, but the bench impressed me for Cheatham, when a couple players got in foul trouble. Anyway... i'm anxious to see Harpeth play.

  2. The only time I have ever seen her play was at the TNT State Tournament last year (they did not win it, they were eliminated by Celina in the first round by around twenty). She seemed like a capable guard with good size and a decent shot. She did not have much of a left hand and struggled to finish around the basket, but was a good outside shooter if left open and automatic from the free throw line. She appeared to be a very good leader.

It appears as though Waverly has improved since she was put into the starting line-up. Good luck to them and her. Hope they have a good season.

You're right, they did not win state. For some reason I was thinking they did, but it was the boys that won two years ago. They did win some tournament last year though.

  3. papatiger,

I heard that Waverly was now starting a freshman, Prince (I assume), at point guard??? I may be mistaken, but I was under the impression that yall's coach did not allow freshmen to play varsity (unless absolutely necessary due to numbers), let alone start? And don't they have all of their players (including starters) back from a year ago, including a whole slew of seniors?

Waverly has 4 of 5 starters back. There was one very good senior on the team last year (Mullinax).

  4. Since Prince has been starting Waverly is 4 and 2, i believe, 2 and 4 before the change. Handles the press very well which is something that was hurting Waverly early in the season.

Prince has been a nice addition to the starting line-up. It is questionable whether she should be starting over some seniors, however the only thing she is lacking is high-school experience. (Last year she led her middle school team to win the state tournament.) She can handle the ball and score just as good or better than most seniors. She is very naturally talented and will only continued to get better. I think after break we will see an even better change in this Waverly team. Once Prince adjusts to starting with four other Seniors and gets in her comfort zone a huge difference will probably be seen. The way I understand it is that the Seniors love here too... it is almost impossible to NOT get along with Kati.

  5. This is the most even the district has been in a long time. Who cares who started and played in the games. Dickson is a very good AAA team. 24 of there 50 points (almost half) were 3 pointers. And Six 3 pointers were from Hamilton (one of the best three point shooters I have ever seen and I first saw her play as a 6th grader and hadn't seen her play since 8th grade--she was good then and she is now.) But anyway that being said Waverly should have denied her a bit more. Waverly played very well though and I can't wait until everyone has played each other at least once within the district. I have been very surprised with the performance of every team in the district (especially stewart county). Even Mont. Central gave Creek Wood a run for their money. As usual there is a lot of competiveness in this district and anything can happen on any night. Oh and what is up with Cheatham losing a couple in a row?

  6. My guess is that Creek Wood or Waverly will upset Cheatham. Harpeth could possibly, but it seems to me that certain teams in this district always give other teams their A game and there seems to be a trend over the past 5 years. This year I don't see Cheatham losing to Harpeth because of their deep rivalry and Cheatham knowing that will be prepared. It will take Creek Wood or Waverly to unsurprising upset Cheatham. Cheatham generally doesn't play well agaisnt Waverly also.

  7. Great game tonight Tigerettes and Lady Redhawks. This was the first game I've made it to this year and I was impressed with both teams. Creek Wood has a better defense than last year and Waverly has more experience and team Chemistry than in years past. Keep it up.

  8. He definitely deserves credit. He is obviously a good coach, time will only tell how good though. I don't care how good a program is, when i coaching change is made you never know what is going to happen and he succeeded.

  10. i just wanted to know if anyone heard about this... i think i saw somethin in the paper bout the adams girl at cw that she needed a couple more blocks to be second on the state alltime list.... is this true?

Yeah they recognized her at the CW-Waverly game last Friday. Pretty Impressive.

  11. Well let's see you state that the game was closer than it seemed, but Waverly got outcoached. It would seem your placing the loss at the coach's feet. That seems like degrading to me. You didn't share with us how you would have coached things differently. Thats not surprising. Finally, if one knows your history on this board, then one would know you never have good things to say about Waverly's coach, but you love the job Carr does at Cheatham and have since a certain player tranferred there. Wonder who you are connected to, I know and so do several others. Don't you think it is time to let the past be the past and praise who you wish with out taking the occasional shot at a coach you don't care for.

There are no past issues here. And no i'm not connected to who you think i am.

  12. Well looks like your getting your usually occasional jab in against Waverly's coach. I'm just curious. Since you indicate you were at the game, exactly what would you have done differently if you were coaching Waverly?

Well I really was not degrading Waverly's coach I was uplifting Creek Wood's. However, if you want to talk about Waverly's coach I can all day long, but I don't think it is appropriate. I hope you are from Waverly because if you are not then you really have no business in the matter.

  13. The officiating was terrible at Creek Wood. The officials took control of the game and took a well played close game by both teams and turn it into a free throw shooting contest for Creek Wood. Creek Wood hit 28-31 free throws in the game, 15-16 in the fourth quarter. Franklin hit 15-15 at the line in the second half alone. Now before everyone starts yelling I'm crying because Waverly lost. I admit that Waverly committed their fouls. But the officials didn't call the same thing on the other end of the court. 21 fouls on Waverly, 6 on Creek Wood for the whole game. Waverly shot 2 free throws for the whole game. ONe call saw a Waverly girl tripped and she fell to the floor right in front of the referee. The Adams girl consistently went over the back for rebounds.

I'm not taking anything away from Creek Wood, they played a great game and have a great coach. Just wish it would have been left to the kids on the floor. Good luck the rest of the way Creek Wood.

I second that was the worst officiated game I have seen all year. Game was a lot closer than the score shows, However Waverly did get outcoached by Creek Wood. Mulllinics deserves Coach of the Year.

  14. This is the first time in years that this district has been this solid. It will be sad to see two good teams not make it to regions especially because each team is primarily led by Seniors. I'm sure Carr has his team ready to beat Waverly, but I think Waverly will bring it to them tomorrow night. If Waverly wins they will play at Sycamore and if they loose they will play at Creek Wood, and i'm not really sure who I would rather play at this point.

  15. It's unlikely, but if Fairview upsets Cheatham, Sycamore loses to Harpeth, and Waverly wins it's last two, Waverly is third.

Should be a great game tomorrow night at Waverly. Their fate is in their hands. It will also be interesting to see the final for the Sycamore Harpeth game. Sycamore is due for a great game and should come out with something to prove.

  16. Waverly played their best game of the year agaisnt Sycamore, they really impressed me Friday night lacking their best defensive player also. I would say Waverly is peaking at the right time. Harpeth and Creek Wood are both on winning streaks and Cheatham looks to have gotten back on track. What is up with Sycamore though? Friday all the girls seemed upset on the court and their play was not smooth. Harpeth is the only team guaranteed a spot in regions however and two teams from the 3-6 seedings are going to be really upset. I would not want to play anyone opening round. I would love to see Harpeth, Creek Wood, Waverly, Montogomery Central in the region tourney but who knows.... this district is all about match-ups.
