  1. He threw 146 and he is a big strong kid, so coach and him must have felt like he could do it. At Boyd, we dont have anyone ready to do that especially this early.

No doubt he is a big strong kid and didn't lose much velocity if any as the game went on.  Has a reputation for having a rubber arm and heard someone suggest he might even come back and pitch again on Thursday.  Also a great sportsman showing a graceful/humble spirit after the game so I'm definitely a fan.

However, after going to a clinic recently by the ASMI they shared some sobering statistics... When a pitcher (14-20yrs old) throws 80+ pitches in a game, they are 3x more likely to sustain an injury.  AND...if they pitch fatigued, thery are 36x more likely to sustain an injury.  Consequently, I'm just worried for him and hate to see a great player toasted early for his Sr year and possibly risk long term issues.

Thx for the response Dogg.  Look forward to more Chatty baseball chatter...

  2. Hey eveyone...new to this blog and just getting back to HS baseball after seeing my oldest daughter through her HS Soccer career.

Curious to get some thoughts from you regarding District 5 AA Grace - Copper Basin game last night...Copper won 3-2 in 8 innings in a vey close game that Grace led in 2-1 late.  Hats off to a gritty Copper team that just never quits.  Here's my question...Copper performance was highlighted by an heroic effort by their senior ace who threw THE ENTIRE 8 INNING GAME...approx 140 pitches!!

While a very impressive performance to secure an early district victory, is that too many pitches for a starter to be throwing this early in the season?

  3. Admittedly haven't seen many of these teams play but here are my picks albeit mostly sentimental with a Chattanooga bias.  Sorry NDers...yall are good but have to support my protestant peeps at CCS for the final.  Besides...if you all can upset KC to get to the final, I'm guessing it will have taken too much out of you all to have enough left in the tank to finish off CCS yet again.  Would be tough to beat the same team three times in two weeks when yall are so closely matched.

    Match 1

    Liberty (10-8-1)                        Match 5

    Notre Dame (12-6-4)                Notre Dame

    Fairview                                                                Match 7

    Knoxville Catholic                     Catholic               Notre Dame

    Match 3                                                                                           State Champion

Jackson Christian (17-3-1)        Match 6                                         CCS

    CPA (10-8-3)                             CPA

    CCS (10-7-4)                            CCS                     CCS

  4. I'll be looking forward to the new brackets and a fresh start.  Even though the Lady Eagles are out of it now, may have to make a college visit to Nashville and catch some of the action next week.  Keep raising the bar everyone and "considering how to provoke one another to love and good soccer!"

  5. ND did control the ball a higher percentage of the 2nd half which is all I got to see. Although Grace did have several good runs it just dissipated by the time it got to the forwards. ND defense really works well as a unit and NDSean is correct it was one breakdown with the goalie an the defense that allowed Grace to capitalize on it and get a nice goal. I think a big part of the goals struggling to find the back of Graces net really goes to a good defense with an incredible goalie. She stopped some balls that I didn't think we're stoppable. Best of Luck to ND and great job Grace. CCS looked tough today vs McMinn Central they really are a different team than the beginning of the season. ND will have to come out ready to play.

Thanks for the kind words regarding Grace AAA.  I was proud of the Lady Eagles for competing hard and making it a close game.  They came out a bit tense and tentative early on as evidenced by that first ND goal.  Total breakdown in communication and should never have happened.  They are genearlly better than that but afraid nerves may have gotten the best of them.   Obviously settled down and continued to fight hard against a faster and more physical ND team.  They worked their butts off to get their goal which seemed to energize them confirming they could compete.  Although Grace keeper made numerous good saves including a nice tip over on the high ball that led to the corner kick and subsequent winning goal in the 88th/89th minute, I keep thinking if she had come up to catch the ball before it bounced, the tip over and corner kick never happen and who knows what ensues.

That being said, I have to admit ND did control most of the game and deserved the win.  They passed the ball well and worked hard to get the job done.  It would certainly have been an upset for Grace pull it out but at least they competed well.  Congrats Lady Irish and "Best 'O Luck" for another state title run.

And so Grace finishes an otherwise stellar season with the frustration of being so close to District and Region titles and their first State championship run they could taste it.  Hopefully that will inspire them to kick it up (no pun intended) just a bit more and start to join the conversation as a top Chattanooga Soccer program.  While they graduate 4 seniors including their standout keeper, they have a thriving MS and Elem program with select talent developing and some of their non-select players now joining club teams to hone their skills.  If the school can keep it together, I believe they will continue to be part of the conversation for years to come.

  6. Eagle-

I have not seen Grace play, but certainly sounds like they are a team to be reckoned with....ND has the capablility this year to do well against Grace, but can also be a little sluggish (Reference Central Magnet Game)...Hate to miss it, since I want to see Grace play...Good Luck to both teams.....Maybe your girls and ours can get together for a late night sleepover tonight and talk game strategies as well to all hours of the night...should level the playing field... :geek:

    D

Sorry you'll miss it CHAMP but wish your son the best in his regatta.  Don't know about the sleepover but I may need to come by Champy's before the game to hang with Booger and co.  Even if ya are Cat-licks...you all seem like a fun bunch...and thank God this ain't Northern Ireland.

  7. another great win for the Lady Fighting Irish over arch rival CCS :thumb: ...hopefully the girls can continue with the intensity of play that they showed last night into the sectional championship tomorrow ....2 District & Regional Championships in a row...not too shabby for a team w/ 1 senior playing

They won't need to be that intense against little 'ol Grace.  Probably an easy game for the mighty Lady Shamrocks.  You should encourage them to celebrate their District and Region Championships Friday night (even later than normal since it's Fall Break) and then relax watching college football all day Saturday (lots of rootBEER and Pizza) until game time...

  8. Not looking to interfere with any of your man-crushes or wife-swappin and no mullet here as this Eagle be more bald than gold!

Just hope to see a good game, maybe enjoy a famous ND Brat (sure hope you all have them!) and that the Lady Eagles will be a worthy opponent.  Regardless, I'll be rooting for whoever wins this game to bring the A/AA State hardware back to Chatty!

Look forward to seeing you there...

  9. McMinn Central 3-2 Grace Academy

Central up 1-0 at half. Jessi Young sprains ankle about 5 minutes after scoring and must come out. That takes the wind out of Central for the majority of regulation. Grace kept grinding away and finally got one in to tie it up on a corner. First 10-minute extra goes scoreless. Grace scores in the first minute of second 10-minute extra. All hope seemed lost for Central until a last minute charge by Nicole Watson hits the net in the last seconds. Scoreless through golden goal overtimes. Taylor Young stops Grace's last pk to win the game. Central wins PK's 4-3. Great game by both teams. Fans were great, if not a little chippy, but that's the way it always is with these two teams. We've had a great rivalry the past 4-5 seasons. Good luck to Grace going into Saturday. They're good enough to surprise and beat either CCS or Notre Dame.

Good summary Cody.  Jessi young is definitely a special player and Central is a different team without her on the field.  Showed a ton of guts to come back in the 2nd half and get the assist on the tying OT goal with under a minute.  Only player I've seen all year that seemed to be able to single handedly to cut through Grace's D like a hot knife through butter.  Another very frustrating loss to Central for Grace but hats off to Coach M and the lady Chargers for grinding it out.

Hoping Lady Eagles can suprise themselves and actually convert on more than a small fraction of the scoring opportunities they create.  No doubt ND will be tough to beat.  Got to see the second half of their game against CCS and they are pretty much as billed... fast, physical and tenacious.  Although, it sure looked like CCS had scored first on a corner kick the ND keeper appeared to stop behind the goal line. No telling what the outcome would have been if the ref had called it a goal.  Regardless, It would be a huge victory for Grace either way to help salvage a dissapointing post season thus far.

Comin to see you Saturday Mr. Booger!  Lookin' forward to seein sum goood fuutsbol...and Cannon's glorious mullet!!

  10. Yeah...guess it's kind of a giveaway who's kid is theirs on the field.  Although she seems to be a little more stable than those two...bless their hearts!

As I've said all along, if you're gonna be the best, you've got to beat the best so they'll have to face whoever comes their way.  Will be interesting to see what they're made of and how far they go.  I've seen them play like champs and chumps at times but at their best, I believe they can go toe to toe with about anyone in A/AA.  Be nice to get to the 'boro regardless.

Coach is doing some heavy duty stragedizin' and think she's got something figured out for the trip to Englewood tomorrow.  Hopeful for a good, clean game...and a Regional Championship for the Lady Eagles!  Would be nice to only face the R4 runner up Saturday in Sectionals although ND or CCS will be formidable either way.

  11. I watched the second half of the McMinn Central v Grace game. WOW!!! It was a great almost comeback by Grace and they BOTH have crazy fans. From the few games I’ve seen this year I expect them to have a rematch in Englewood on Thursday. The last time I was at Central they didn’t have lights, and with a 4pm start on Tuesday I assume they still don’t. An early start time will make it rough on the Eagle fans to fly that far north.

Definitely passionate fans on both sides for this one (one especially loud-beak father  ) Not looking forward to the trip to Englewood and a hostile environment but Lady Eagles thankful for the opportunity to avenge a tough loss at home in the District final.  Being Fall Break, Grace should have decent support from parents and student body even for a 4pm game.

For some reason, there always seems to be some controversial officiating for this match-up so the Eaglettes will be looking to come out strong and remove that from the equation.  No small task with a Central team that shows great heart and hustle and with young team that has clearly matured over the season.  Should be a great match.  May the best team win!

  13. C'mon man...it was the Silverdale game last year and Grandpa has graduated.  If there are going to be multiple cards anywhere in Chattanooga tomorrow there are other teams playing that have been known to rack up double digit "cautions"...and further business for orthopedic surgeons.

Provided the officials control the game and remain objective in enforcing the rules absent any personal bias (which of course they should right MVM?), this should be a good hard fought game with Grace prevailing once again as they did in the regular season.  There's no drama here...move along.

I have been waiting for this one to come back up..! Perfect timing. Sorry Eagle Eye that's just funny.

All bottled watered is banned for this game...and grandpas. So bring your own water and leave grandpa at home.

  14. Grace 3

    Polk County 0

(Was this game played a full 80 minutes?)

    CSAS 1

    Silverdale 0

Technically yes but practically no.  Grace was up 3-0 at the half and then started going through the motions.  Also a little somber due to a pending passing of a grandmother effecting two of the players.  As stated before, they are a tight knit group and definitely feel for each other.

Still probably had over 20 shots on goal but mostly pretty weak with no passion or sense of urgency.  Polk keeper was VERY busy and did quite a nice job.

In light of that, Grace Coach had them stay after specifically to work on finishing.

Believe they will be fine and take care of business tonight against CSAS.

  15. Great to see you too AAA and appreciate the props for the Lady Eagles.  Despite starting a little slow they came on strong in the second half and the defense was solid as always.  Respect for Cleveland as they made several runs to put pressure on the D and give our keeper some good work and show she's not just a pretty face...like her daddy.

Cleveland did have their starting keeper.  However, despite ceremonially starting the game for Cleveland's Sr. night, #6 did not see any playing time. Word is she was concussed from a prior game and sitting out. #8 was tough but without the dual threat from #6, the Grace D was able to hold and post their 11th shutout

Thankful to get out of there with the 1-0 win.

Congrats to ND on the big win against Bearden and for showing some Chattaboogie pride.  Sounds like they are peaking at the right time.

  16. All is well girls; extremely nice conversation pieces....in a matter of hours, the real season kicks off for those of us fortunate enough to do so....its all about the big dance and more often than not it is the ugly duckling putting on the best show......Ole' Booger, he likes to dance

Should be fun.  Look forward to the lively commentary from the peanut gallery.  Cue the music... :thumb:

  17. Always interesting when post season gets close...Think largely a matter of who peaks at the right time.  Never can tell with girls.

Didn't get to say hi (my loss) but understand there was a Booger siting at the Grace game last night...I expect doing some scouting??

Sorry the LGE-ers didn't put on much of a show for you in their lack-luster performance against CSAS.  Pulled off the 2-0 win but was 0-0 at the half.  Played better in 2nd half but think they were mussed up with Sr. night emotions running high.  They are a close knit group and looked like it was on their mind.  Very sluggish and un-inspired to start.  Coach also subbed quite a bit to get playing time for a bunch of non-starters but glad they came away with the victory and hope they got it out of their system.  I'm afraid that kind of effort won't even get them out of the district!

Credit to CSAS for playing hard.  They packed the back and did a good job thwarting a number of first half runs before Grace could finish.

Interesting to see the McMinn Central-Cleveland tie.  Wondering how that bodes for the Grace-Cleveland match tomorrow.  Anyone ever confirm if Cleveland starting keeper played last night or out for the season?

  18. Certainly not top shelf CHAMPy report but for what its worth from the cupboard floor...

Cleveland has dual threat standouts up front in #6 (speed to burn) and #8 super foot skills with ability to pass and dribble in heavy traffic.  They generally work well together to create opportunities.  Interested to hear how ND kept them in check.

Also tough sweeper/stopper in back AAA should recognize with excellent speed, size and toughness who can also come up to make some plays and get in the offense.  Decent supporting cast as well.

Starting keeper was also solid but don't recall if there was big drop-off with back up.

  19. OK....50% from Tuesday.........should have stuck w/ McMinn County and I picked against SC like many others did,  w/ hopes of a great miracle and to show Dekalb some love and kindness   (he definitely needs it).....DeKalb, you had your chance and you blew it

Baylor 5 CCS 0......far cry from a tie Eagle

.........finally gonna get to see some Boogerette and the Fighting Irish tonight.......Boogers @ Champys  :hungry:

Yep...Definitely blew the CCS-Baylor call.  Should have known better as the Eaglett played club ball with most of Baylor's seniors and they're all top notch.  Temporary insanity!

Glad you finally got to see Boogerette play.  That's always good stuff!  Had another source speak very highly of the Lady Irish recently (select talent top to bottom) and with only losing one Sr sounds like they're primed to contend for another state title soon...Just hope not this year because if Grace is ever gonna make a run, this year would be it! Regardless, if they're gonna be the best they'll have to beat the best and looking like formidable competition throughout the state including the Lady Irish of K-town. Gettin fun now!!  Best-O-Luck to ya!
