  1. No doubt he is a big strong kid and didn't lose much velocity if any as the game went on. Has a reputation for having a rubber arm and heard someone suggest he might even come back and pitch again on Thursday. Also a great sportsman showing a graceful/humble spirit after the game so I'm definitely a fan. However, after going to a clinic recently by the ASMI they shared some sobering statistics... When a pitcher (14-20yrs old) throws 80+ pitches in a game, they are 3x more likely to sustain an injury. AND...if they pitch fatigued, thery are 36x more likely to sustain an injury. Consequently, I'm just worried for him and hate to see a great player toasted early for his Sr year and possibly risk long term issues. Thx for the response Dogg. Look forward to more Chatty baseball chatter...
  2. Hey eveyone...new to this blog and just getting back to HS baseball after seeing my oldest daughter through her HS Soccer career. Curious to get some thoughts from you regarding District 5 AA Grace - Copper Basin game last night...Copper won 3-2 in 8 innings in a vey close game that Grace led in 2-1 late. Hats off to a gritty Copper team that just never quits. Here's my question...Copper performance was highlighted by an heroic effort by their senior ace who threw THE ENTIRE 8 INNING GAME...approx 140 pitches!! While a very impressive performance to secure an early district victory, is that too many pitches for a starter to be throwing this early in the season?
  3. Admittedly haven't seen many of these teams play but here are my picks albeit mostly sentimental with a Chattanooga bias. Sorry NDers...yall are good but have to support my protestant peeps at CCS for the final. Besides...if you all can upset KC to get to the final, I'm guessing it will have taken too much out of you all to have enough left in the tank to finish off CCS yet again. Would be tough to beat the same team three times in two weeks when yall are so closely matched. Match 1 Liberty (10-8-1) Match 5 Notre Dame (12-6-4) Notre Dame Match 2 Fairview Match 7 Knoxville Catholic Catholic Notre Dame Match 3 State Champion Jackson Christian (17-3-1) Match 6 CCS CPA (10-8-3) CPA Match 4 CCS (10-7-4) CCS CCS CAK
  4. I'll be looking forward to the new brackets and a fresh start. Even though the Lady Eagles are out of it now, may have to make a college visit to Nashville and catch some of the action next week. Keep raising the bar everyone and "considering how to provoke one another to love and good soccer!"
  5. Thanks for the kind words regarding Grace AAA. I was proud of the Lady Eagles for competing hard and making it a close game. They came out a bit tense and tentative early on as evidenced by that first ND goal. Total breakdown in communication and should never have happened. They are genearlly better than that but afraid nerves may have gotten the best of them. Obviously settled down and continued to fight hard against a faster and more physical ND team. They worked their butts off to get their goal which seemed to energize them confirming they could compete. Although Grace keeper made numerous good saves including a nice tip over on the high ball that led to the corner kick and subsequent winning goal in the 88th/89th minute, I keep thinking if she had come up to catch the ball before it bounced, the tip over and corner kick never happen and who knows what ensues. That being said, I have to admit ND did control most of the game and deserved the win. They passed the ball well and worked hard to get the job done. It would certainly have been an upset for Grace pull it out but at least they competed well. Congrats Lady Irish and "Best 'O Luck" for another state title run. And so Grace finishes an otherwise stellar season with the frustration of being so close to District and Region titles and their first State championship run they could taste it. Hopefully that will inspire them to kick it up (no pun intended) just a bit more and start to join the conversation as a top Chattanooga Soccer program. While they graduate 4 seniors including their standout keeper, they have a thriving MS and Elem program with select talent developing and some of their non-select players now joining club teams to hone their skills. If the school can keep it together, I believe they will continue to be part of the conversation for years to come.
  6. Sorry you'll miss it CHAMP but wish your son the best in his regatta. Don't know about the sleepover but I may need to come by Champy's before the game to hang with Booger and co. Even if ya are Cat-licks...you all seem like a fun bunch...and thank God this ain't Northern Ireland.
  7. They won't need to be that intense against little 'ol Grace. Probably an easy game for the mighty Lady Shamrocks. You should encourage them to celebrate their District and Region Championships Friday night (even later than normal since it's Fall Break) and then relax watching college football all day Saturday (lots of rootBEER and Pizza) until game time...
  8. Not looking to interfere with any of your man-crushes or wife-swappin and no mullet here as this Eagle be more bald than gold! Just hope to see a good game, maybe enjoy a famous ND Brat (sure hope you all have them!) and that the Lady Eagles will be a worthy opponent. Regardless, I'll be rooting for whoever wins this game to bring the A/AA State hardware back to Chatty! Look forward to seeing you there...
  9. Good summary Cody. Jessi young is definitely a special player and Central is a different team without her on the field. Showed a ton of guts to come back in the 2nd half and get the assist on the tying OT goal with under a minute. Only player I've seen all year that seemed to be able to single handedly to cut through Grace's D like a hot knife through butter. Another very frustrating loss to Central for Grace but hats off to Coach M and the lady Chargers for grinding it out. Hoping Lady Eagles can suprise themselves and actually convert on more than a small fraction of the scoring opportunities they create. No doubt ND will be tough to beat. Got to see the second half of their game against CCS and they are pretty much as billed... fast, physical and tenacious. Although, it sure looked like CCS had scored first on a corner kick the ND keeper appeared to stop behind the goal line. No telling what the outcome would have been if the ref had called it a goal. Regardless, It would be a huge victory for Grace either way to help salvage a dissapointing post season thus far. Comin to see you Saturday Mr. Booger! Lookin' forward to seein sum goood fuutsbol...and Cannon's glorious mullet!!
  10. Yeah...guess it's kind of a giveaway who's kid is theirs on the field. Although she seems to be a little more stable than those two...bless their hearts! As I've said all along, if you're gonna be the best, you've got to beat the best so they'll have to face whoever comes their way. Will be interesting to see what they're made of and how far they go. I've seen them play like champs and chumps at times but at their best, I believe they can go toe to toe with about anyone in A/AA. Be nice to get to the 'boro regardless. Coach is doing some heavy duty stragedizin' and think she's got something figured out for the trip to Englewood tomorrow. Hopeful for a good, clean game...and a Regional Championship for the Lady Eagles! Would be nice to only face the R4 runner up Saturday in Sectionals although ND or CCS will be formidable either way.
  11. Right?...I don't think he realizes how obnoxious he is...must be a darn Yankee!!
  12. Definitely passionate fans on both sides for this one (one especially loud-beak father ) Not looking forward to the trip to Englewood and a hostile environment but Lady Eagles thankful for the opportunity to avenge a tough loss at home in the District final. Being Fall Break, Grace should have decent support from parents and student body even for a 4pm game. For some reason, there always seems to be some controversial officiating for this match-up so the Eaglettes will be looking to come out strong and remove that from the equation. No small task with a Central team that shows great heart and hustle and with young team that has clearly matured over the season. Should be a great match. May the best team win!
  13. Know I missed the deadline for yesterday (OBE)...but here's my picks to the final 8 from here on out... Region Finals CAK Catholic Grace ND White House CPA Dyersburg Jackson Christian Sectionals CAK Catholic Grace ND White House WH Heritage Dyersburg Jackson Christian
  14. C'mon man...it was the Silverdale game last year and Grandpa has graduated. If there are going to be multiple cards anywhere in Chattanooga tomorrow there are other teams playing that have been known to rack up double digit "cautions"...and further business for orthopedic surgeons. Provided the officials control the game and remain objective in enforcing the rules absent any personal bias (which of course they should right MVM?), this should be a good hard fought game with Grace prevailing once again as they did in the regular season. There's no drama here...move along. I have been waiting for this one to come back up..! Perfect timing. Sorry Eagle Eye that's just funny. ChattanoogaCannon, on 16 Oct 2013 - 9:51 PM, said:
  15. Once the districts are settled...anyone up for a little "Fall Madness"? TSSAA has brackets published leading to Elite 8 for the State... Just for bragging rights of course...
