  1. any word on when halls/powell will be made up yet?
  2. If you're wanting scenarios, how about ... karns beats oak ridge, then loses to halls..making them 7-5 Clinton loses to powell and halls, making them 7-5 powell beats clinton but loses to halls, making them 7-5 halls wins out and becomes the 4th team at 7-5 Is there a chance in the world that this will happen, not really(I don't think Halls could pull it off), but it's fun to think about. How would that shape up the district? Would the advantage be to halls in that situation? having gone 1-1 against karns and clinton, but 2-0 against powell? Clinton would be 1-1 against all 3 Powell would be 2-0 against karns, 1-1 against clinton, but 0-2 against halls karns would be 0-2 against powell, but 1-1 against halls and clinton just in this scenario, that would make it Halls, Powell, clinton, karns 2-5 in district respectively because halls would be 4-2 against the other three, powell 3-3(2-0 against karns), clinton 3-3(1-1against karns), and then karns 2-4 against the other three. 1. Oak Ridge 9-3 2-5? 7-5 Halls Powell Clinton Karns 6-7. 3-9 CC,Clinton So, if i'm right about that hypothetical situation(which i may be wrong) in which I'd say has one-tenth of 1% chance of actually happening, Halls could still get 2nd in district? That is just messed up. thumb thumb thumb
  3. I would have to say that moving it to next saturday won't help halls that much since they play Karns next friday...of course, there's really not a good time to make it up this late in the schedule. I think powell will get this one no matter when it's played...Halls is in a ridiculous slump, scoring under 60 in 3 of their last 4 and the one being Gibbs
  4. If he does go D1 and play in the SEC, I can 99% guarantee he won't be playing in the home town. We have a premier football program and lose 3/5 top state players to other schools out of state, no way our lackluster men's basketball team could keep him in town within NCAA rules. thumb thumb thumb
  5. Maybe Halls should use the knox south association b/c the ridge hasn't gotten it done for me the past few years when i've seen their games. I mean, yeah the players got to adjust and fans need to just deal with it when their teams are getting the nuts and bolts, but when a player on one end gets a clean block without the body and gets a foul called just because it was from behind and another on the other end doesn't on the block from the front when there clearly is a body foul on the block...something's wrong. I'm not talking about anything particular recently, but just in general. I like to see aggressiveness and just can't stand it when bad calls are made, especially if the same zebra keeps making 'em. Let's also get these refs back to basketball rules...a slap on the hand on the shot is not a foul...the hand is part of the ball...pretty simple, so when a player stands over another and just sticks his hand on the ball or the other players hand, it's not a foul. My favorite fouls though are when a player simply runs in front of another player on a fast break and swats at the ball but clearly makes no contact(Clinton/Halls game) and the ref calls a foul for a guy waving his arm through the air to alter the shot. Is that a foul in high-school ball? If that's the case they should really consider making some changes b/c that's just ridiculous and takes away from the game..again, same zebra making calls. That's all I'm saying
  6. ok, my question is, Can Halls, Powell, Clinton, and Karns all have the same district win/loss record at the end of this? We've already got 3 with 4 losses..1 w/ 3. Is that possible? or is there too many games between these down the stretch? If it's possible, that would be just awesome really. I mean, yeah we all want our team to be on top, but still, as much beating and pounding they all do on each other it would be fitting for a huge tie that takes tie breakers to break and seed them all.
  7. Thanks Papatj, i thought they had already played at Halls, but of course, if anyone's got any inside information that it's been changed, let me know.
  8. I'll go next: 2/1/05 Oak Ridge @ Halls - Oak Ridge wins (ok, Oak Ridge easily) Clinton @ Campbell County - Clinton wins (close) Powell @ Central - Powell wins (closer than you might think) Farragut @ Karns - Karns wins (Don't know anything about Farragut really) 2/3/05 Campbell County @ Scott - Campbell County wins (eh, we'll go with the district) 2/4/05 Clinton @ Oak Ridge - Oak Ridge wins (Oak Ridge by 10+) Powell @ Halls - Halls wins (another Emory road classic) Central @ Campbell County - Campbell County wins (it's a toss-up really) Karns @ Fulton - Fulton wins (Fulton's awesome, although injured and sick) 2/5/05 Central @ Knox Catholic - Knox Catholic wins (Don't know much about KC)
  9. Next weeks games are ridiculous for Halls...@ OR Tuesday and Powell at home Friday I believe...They got a decent shot against Powell if they can manage to get out of this funk that their in right now...What's your all's predictions this next week and what are the other teams schedules like and predictions. I'd take the time to list them all but I'm currently working.
  10. Knoxville Halls has got Cameron Sharp running the point right now and looks really good on the court. He's got some other sophomore class mates that should help him out a lot over the next few years. Zach Cantrell came off the bench against Clinton and pitched in 15 or something points and demonstrated he can and isn't afraid to dribble the ball up the court at 6'3" against the press. Clay Seigers is another guard and has really nice passing abilities. Travis Varner has nice post capabilities. Overall, sharp is far better than these other guys, but they will contribute nicely once they all grow and mature more. That's all i know for Knoxville Halls.
  11. Let me try and take a stab. Oak Ridge 9-3 I think they got 2 losses left in them out of the 4 tough teams behind them. Central's no pushover either. Karns 7-5 They definately have 2 losses left in them I think if not all 3. Halls at home could be the one, but I think @clinton and @Oak Ridge is about impossible at this point with how those two teams are playing currently Halls 7-5 2 wins over CC and 1 with Central makes up 3 of the remaining 5 i think they can win. Halls is 2 shots away from being 4-1 in the current rankings instead of 2-3 with Whitt and I think Fersner of Karns(can't remember) both hitting last second shots, Whitt's sending that one to OT. Halls can beat anyone on any given night and that's for sure. Halls should win @ home against Powell and should steal one, maybe 2 of the 3 road games against Clinton, Karns, and Oak Ridge Powell 7-5 I see them finishing out with 3 more district wins. I think they can take Clinton at home and then CC and central are almost givens. Halls already came to Powell and won, playing at Halls will be a lot tougher. Oak Ridge is just Oak Ridge but of course, not impossible. Clinton 6-6 I see the dragons finishing out 2-3. Halls and Clinton seem to be really close and I like Halls in the rematch. @ Oak Ridge and @ Powell is really difficult, especially if Smith and Ward start to go off. I see a good possibility of karns, halls, and powell finishing in a dead tie with karns winning both against halls, halls both against powell and powell having already won both against karns, what are tie breakers to make it interesting. I know that's a long ways away, but should ad some fun for us who have way too much time on our hands. Of course, beware of the little guys...Cenral and CC probably have a win or two left in their systems as they are really hungry. Never know...
  12. Monday Oak Ridge @ Jefferson County Tuesday Campbell County @ Powell Clinton @ Cumberland County Halls @ Central Karns @ Webb Thursday Carter @ Central Gibbs @ Halls Friday Fulton @ Central Campbell County @ Halls Karns @ Clinton Oak Ridge @ Powell Help me out if I missed any..and when's that ACvsPowell game going to be made up?
  13. You know, I may not know what good defense is exactly, but when both teams combined go to the line 74 times for a free toss...I'd say someone's getting after someone on the defensive end. Overall, the game was ridiculously called close, but both teams fought through it and gave the crowd well worth more than the $4 to get in
  14. Clinton 88 Halls 84 in OT Halls missed 3 free throws that I know of in the last minute of regulation and Whitt hit a 3 with 4 seconds left to tie the game. Clinton also had a foul called on them at one point in the game...the clinton kid didn't like the call and got a technical and trey lucas missed the front end of the one and one and cameron only hit 1/2 technicals, plus they didn't score on the possession after the technical. 6, possibly 7 points and they only got 1. That was Huge. Also, Dye and Whitt were really huge for Clinton. I'll be interested to see their totals tomorrow...they both had to have been in the 20s in points. Cody May was big for Halls having at least 5, maybe 6 blocked shots that I can remember. The officiating was a bit questionable in the OT, but I think they pretty much stuck to their extremely tight calling all night long. Both teams were in the double bonus in both halves and I know there were at least 50 total fouls, possibly 60 in the game. Halls had two players foul out. Sharp in regulation and Cantrell in overtime. Borum tried too hard all night long. He hit only one shot, a three and made some free throws but I'd have to say he missed 7 or 8 other 3 point shots. Those 2 games earlier this week really hurt halls, playing them back to back. They were really short on their 3 point shots all night long. They only hit 3 on the night I think and shot a whole lot more. That second Clinton game could be nasty at Clinton next month, especially if seeding is on the line. Also, Halls didn't generally have too much trouble breaking the Clinton press. There was one instance where it really got too them and Clinton scored 6 quick points I think, but other than that, they didn't do too bad to have seen that press the entire game.
  15. TN, I think you are right on with CC. I listened to their game with Clinton last night. They were ahead at the half, but it really should've been more than that. Clinton buckled down on the defensive end and cause CC some trouble, but like you said, they just couldn't hold up in the second. This could be one of two things, maybe more...either they aren't well conditioned and can't hold up after the break, or clinton just played more inspired in the second and came out and took it to them. With the way CC held Whitt to just 3 points in the first, they can hold any top scoring threat player for any team...they'll get over the hump sooner or later and I like them against Karns since the Beavers got one against OR as well. I'm going to go back on what I said about Clinton beating Halls since you all are saying the games have been switched. I like Halls with the home court. They should be back to the shape they were in before Christmas by now and especially with having games on consecutive days and winning both on the road. Clinton struggled with CC in the first half at home, which can't happen at Halls because they'll jump up by 15 at the break if you aren't careful. Halls is usually strong in the second and fourth quarters in their games thusfar. In six of their last seven halls has held opponents to under 70 points...the only one, the loss to Oak Ridge. They've also won 12 of their last 13, make it 13 Friday..Halls by 10
  16. Campbell County leads Clinton 21-15 at the end of the 1st quarter... 34-30 CC at the half
  17. I'll comment on predictions for Halls...I'll let others talk about their schools or schools they like and have seen. Tough week for Halls as they are playing the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th games of a 5 game road game span. Halls vs. AC - I'm going to have to go out on a limb here and say that Halls will pull out a second win against AC since they seem to have a bad low-post game. There leading scorer in the first matchup was guard Jared Laverdiere and I don't think he can outscore Cameron Sharpe. Halls will get to the free throw line again and do better than the 21/32 performance they had in the first matchup. Could be tough at AC though as this is an underlying rivalry...at least it use to be in football. It'll be interesting to see how the game plays out at AC's home court this time. Halls vs. Carter - What can I say? Halls beat Gibbs by 42...Carter beat Gibbs by 22. Anyway, Carter has 2 main scoring threats. Halls has 1 and 4 or 5 better supporting cast players. Halls outscores them in this one. Carter's offense is lacking a little, shooting under 50% from the field, under 30% from 3 range and under 60% from the free-throw line. Halls is over all 3 of those. Halls vs. Clinton - Clinton's only got 4 legitimate scoring threats, but good one's at that. They like to throw up the 3's from everywhere on the court shooting 409 of them on the year. If the 3's on, Clinton handles Halls. If not, then Halls may be able to come in and steal away a win. Tough to win on the road. I have to say Clinton all the way in this one, hopefully not. Halls wins 2/3 this week, what do you all think?
  18. In Halls losses... The first game of the year Halls went 4/12 from the free-throw line, lost 63-59 to a Fulton team which had a number of it's players in the state football playoffs. In there next game, Halls was 16/33 from the line and lost to seymour 63-57. When Halls lost to Karns the first time they were 25/32. There's not much more you can do there since that's well over 80%. The Beavers just outshot them from the outside, hitting 9 three pointers. I don't know the box score for the Oak Ridge game and wasn't there either, so I don't know if it was the foul shooting that got them or just the overall defense which it would appear to be since the got outscored by 13 in the second half. I will say in the Union County game which Halls only won by 8, the Red Devils went 32/40 from the line...that's just amazingly impressive to not only get to the line that many times in a game, but to hit that many also. But seems as if the trend is when Halls gets to the line and shoots well, they win. When they don't, they lose. Besides all this, when's the last time you heard of Halls High School winning 9 games in a row or having 10 for the season, no matter who there opponents were.
  19. Approximate player averages for Halls. Borum 9.8 pts/game Buchanan 7.8 Cantrell 6.1 Cooper .46 Lucas 9.2 May 12.1 Riggs (38 points in 11 games...last time I heard, he had quit) Seigers 5.3 Sharp 15.8 Varner 7.1 Watson (8 points in the 7 he's got in) This doesn't include the Oak ridge game since knoxpreps.com hasn't reported the stats or well, Halls hasn't yet. One thing I think you should look for are the free-throw attempts in this game...it's a bitter rival and could get physical. That advantage could go to Halls. Halls...236/339 for 70% in 13 games reported Powell...162/265 for 61% in 16 games reported I think Powell definately has the upper hand in the inside game, but Halls might have the better cast of players in the outside game. Still though, with the game being at Powell and their better interior, although I'm a Halls fan, I think Powell wins a close one at home.
  20. oh i know cdragonz123, I was just pointing out that clinton handed central the whipping
  21. It appears that clinton demolished central, 77-45 according to knoxpreps.com and that halls' bubble was burst by oak ridge where the wildcats outscored the red devils by 13 in the second half to win by 14, 79-65. also, powell won 79-70 i believe over karns. Congrats to all 3. Big game friday, Halls at Powell. I wish I could go, but i won't be in town for that one.
  22. I have only been to one Halls basketball game this year and let me tell you, this team is completely different from past teams. This team can score from anywhere on the court. It doesn't rely on just one guy throwing up 50 shots and hitting 8 for 20 points like the past few years. This year, Halls actually has a TEAM instead of the one-man shows in previous seasons. Yes, Sharp has tendencies to control the ball too much from time to time, but Coach Webster pulls him over to the side and sets him straight. In the only game i've seen thusfar, Halls absolutely dominated Rhea County 91-68, but let me tell you all, it wasn't even that close at all. If Halls continues like it has been from box scores and the little I've seen of them, lookout. If you take a peek at Halls' box scores, you see that 4,5, even 6 guys are scoring in double figures and not always the same guys. Over the last 2 years, maybe 3 guys would hit double figures in a game. Spreading the ball around and having that balance on offense that they haven't had before will make any team struggle to beat them. It's not hard to guard 2 or 3 guys who can score, but when all 5 on the court can get the job done with the ball in their hands, that's a whole different story. Halls also is getting to the free throw line folks. They've taken 339 free throw attempts on the year in 13 games, according to Knoxpreps.com, and have made 236, or another words, right about 70%. That's an average of just over 26 free throw attempts a game. Another thing, in that Rhea County game, the ball movement was phenominal. I really don't think I've seen anything like it. This year, when Sharp calls out for the motion offense, you'll actually see some motion unlike the past.
