  1. For all you McCallie fans that are excited about Coach Potter heading home, BA is about to get to the business. So who are your top candidates for the job?

Here is just a small list :

    1. David Pack - HC at FRA. MBA alum. Knows the landscape, expectations, and the whole deal. Don't know if he can leave the guaranteed $ from Crockett and Co. over at FRA, but I would expect him to get a call.

    2. Paul Wade - OC at Ensworth. 8 championships with 4 different schools. Would like to see him get a shot at the big time with the big boys. Both Bowers and Pack would endorse him for the position.

    3. Philip Shadowens - rumors have been circulating that he would be interested in a high profile private school coaching gig. I could see this happening.

    4. Jeff Rutledge - HC at PJPII - Bet he is ready to leave that sinking ship in football and head for greener pastures.

Good luck to the Eagles on their search.

Excuse me for not knowing this, but was Potter the basketball coach also. The title of the thread would imply that he is/was.

  2. Ensworth has an incredible back in Elder. He can be a game changer in less than 10 seconds. That being said, the Red Raiders managed to shut down Elder in the first meeting. This game will be a war in the trenches between two of the best crews of lineman in DII AA. After getting waxed in the first meeting, I think that the Tigers won't let that happen again. Tigers defend the gold ball.

    Ensworth 27

    Baylor 17

  3. BGA held off the Blue Tornado earlier this season 33-21 with a second half charge by McCallie. I believe that McCallie is that team that could make a run in the playoffs this year. They may be behind 20+ points at the half but they are a resilient team. They have made second half comebacks against both BGA and Baylor.

Prediction: BGA 30-24 in a hard fought game

  4. BA deserves mention -- they have a great team. A potential semifinal matchup with Baylor would be a rematch of BA's 10-7 win over the Bears, the only loss Baylor had this year. That game was in Brentwood; the rematch would be in Chattanooga. If BA won that, they'd possibly have to face Ensworth in the II-AA Championship Game, the only II-AA team that beat BA this season.

Baylor School in Chattanooga is the Red Raiders

Baylor University in Waco, Texas is the Bears

  5. I say MUS vs Baylor this year; for reasons so aptly articulated already. High School teammates now facing off in the big game as coaches. That would be a great story. I'd hate to see either lose that one, but I would have to pull for the boys from Memphis.

While I do think MUS can beat McCallie or BGA I have no doubt that Ensworth will beat the boys from Memphis. 6 TOs or not. Ensworth vs. Baylor repeat with Ensworth taking home the gold ball again. Baylor waxed Ensworth earlier this season, but have I doubt the Ensworth coaching staff and the players will let that happen again

  6. That, smartypants, is a dictionary entry. WHAT specifically does he finds "intriguing" about that particular match-up. I am curious to know exactly what this apparent Mid-Stater thinks. "Intriguing" tells me nada.

According to unapproved website, BGA is #8 in the state and MUS is #10, both at 7-3. If BGA gets past McCallie, this could be a very good game. That being said, BGA needs to beat McCallie first. McCallie is one of those teams that can be very dangerous the second time around. Good Luck to everybody

  7. I've seen both teams play in person this year, and they're both very good. Baylor has an amazing defense, running the 3-4 about as well as you could hope on the high school level, including having a 370 lb. NT and good speed/athleticism at the OLB spots. Baylor's place kicker is very very good, and their offense is proficient.

BGA has burner speed at wide receiver -- Baylor will need to watch out for long bombs, particularly when they have seven up front and bring both OLBs on a blitz. As for Baylor, they have great RB depth which will challenge BGA's defensive line, particularly in the second half, plus Baylor has several big/talented linemen to open up running lanes.

I anticipate a Baylor win, but it's not impossible to think that BGA could pull out a victory.

This game is key for both teams

    Baylor Win: Baylor #1 Seed

    BGA #4 seed

    BGA Win: Baylor #4 seed

    BGA #3 seed

  8. This is the last game of the regular season. Baylor has won the last 3 meetings. BGA tends to have bad games when they play good teams.

    Recent Meetings

    2010-Semi-Finals- Baylor 33-14

    2010-Regular Season-Baylor 33-21

    2009-Baylor 34-14

    2008-BGA 24-21

    2007-BGA 22-21

    Prediction:

    2011- Baylor 38-24

  9. Did anyone else attending the game think it odd that BGA's field was SOAKED? We haven't had rain in days, but you would have thought the midstate had suffered through a week's worth of rain. Pretty bush league on BGA's part if they did that to slow BA down. However, maybe someone accidently turned the sprinklers on for the last 10 days.

It is absolutely absurd to say that BGA tried to sabotage their own field to get an edge on BA. If you remember correctly BGA also had to play on the same field. If BGA tried to get an edge it obviously didn't help. FYI BGA's regular grounds keeper has recently had an extended stay in the hospital so...

  10. BA rolls, as most expected. I arrived early in the second quarter and left early in the fourth, and my view wasn't great. That said, BA had a dozen more athletes than the Wildcats. BGA has a scrappy bunch, and I was impressed with the resiliency of their quarterback; but they aren't talented enough to hang with the top teams in DII.

It seems that when the Wildcats play the top teams in DII (Ensworth, BA, and probably Baylor), they start flat on offense and defense. They play like they are intimidated from the first snap. BA's defense was impressive. Even without Woody Barron, they still had Amos Mason and Derek Barnett in the back field all night. Even with BGA being the most undermanned team in the division, they still tried to fight back. They still made it a respectable game by scoring 28 points even if it was against the second string. Bye week couldn't have come at a better time for the Wildcats to fix key points in the way that they play the game on both sides of the ball. Hopefully the Wildcats can bounce back against Father Ryan in 2 weeks.

  11. Riverdale (#1 in State) beat Smyrna by 7.

Blackman (#4 in State) beat Smyrna by 1.

Olive Branch (#1 in Miss and #37 in Nation) beat Smyrna by 2.

Not sure they would be DII AA middle of pack.

Im just saying that we may never know how Smyrna would stand up to Ensworth, BA, or Baylor

BGA beat them in OT with almost 3 months of prep time. Im not sure the result would have been the same if they had 1 week to prepare for the bulldogs

  12. BA coming off an emotional Baylor win will not be good for BA. BGA is capable of beating BA. (Beat a good Smyrna team) If BGA's QB is on he can hurt BA. (170 yds per game and 14 TD's) BA will wear BGA down and pull out the win in the last 5 min. Game will be closer than most people think.. BA 35 BGA 31

While Smyrna was a good team, they would be middle of the pack in DII AA. Smyrna was good but not even close to what BA is capable of and has proven.

    BA 42

    BGA 27

  13. Really not that big of a deal...just an insight to how the game went. Why do you call Ensworth Mappleworth? And Corn will run for 250...

Ensworth is having another great year and with MBA's extremely down year I predict Ensworth by at least 35....Elder will probably have one of his best games against MBA's struggling defense

  14. WOW......THIS GAME WAS NOT EVEN CLOSE, I REALLY EXPECTED ENSWORTH TO HAVE TO WORK A LITTLE HARDER FOR THE VICTORY. EVEN THOUGH ENSWORTH WAS MINUS 2 IN TURNOVERS THEY STILL FOUND A WAY TO WIN BIG. BGA QB DID NOT EVEN HAVE 100 YDS PASSING UNTIL THE FINAL 4 MINUTES OF THE GAME WHEN IT WAS 33 0 AND HE THREW A LONG TD AGAINST OUR 100% FRESHMAN DEFENSE. GREAT WIN FOR ENSWORTH AND GOOD LUCK TO BGA THE REST OF THE WAY.

BGA came out flat from the starting kickoff and was never able to recover. Ensworth definately showed that they are a championship caliber team. Corn Elder is an incredible athlete. Not only could he run away from the BGA defenders, when they did get a hand on him and wrap him up, he would drag the defender for YAC. Good luck to Ensworth in the coming weeks.

  15. I guess thats what happens when you get caught cheating, you lose.... BGA wins it by at least 4 tds

    The game was last week

    BGA 35

    MBA 17

it really wasnt as close as the score says

MBA scored their last TD against BGA's JV and Freshman defense

  16. Ensworth wins in a shootout 42-38. Coach Ricky was embarrassed last week and he will use that to motivate. EHS's game plan will be to shut down BGA's QB. BGA is riding high right now, lots of press for them, lots of talk about being 5-0 which will become a distraction for the BGA players as they practice this week and play Friday night. Not sure BGA's defense has seen a better back than Corn this year.

Corn will definately be the best back that the Wildcats have seen this year, but I wouldn't count Roc Batten's defense out of it. CJ Bethard may also be the best QB that the tigers have seen or will see all year. If the tigers can contain Bethard and the Wildcats can contain Elder, it will be a great defensive game, but I don't see this happening. I see Corn Elder running circles around the Wildcat defense, and Bethard throwing as well as this last week (17-18 for 261 yards). Wildcats in OT 41-38 with a winning kick from the strong leg of senior kicker Connor Mitchell.

  17. The 5-0 BGA Wildcats take on 4-1 Ensworth. BGA comes off an emotional win over their old coach, and Ensworth is playing after a shocking blowout loss to Baylor. Can the Wilcats continue to ride this emotional rollercoaster, or are they derailed by Ensworth?

I'm sure Roc Batten will pull out all the stops to try and contain Corn Elder and the high powered Ensworth run game. Im also sure that CJ Bethard can counter especially coming off a very emotional game against former coach Marty Euverard and the MBA Big Red. Bethard completing 17 of 18 for 261 yards and 4 TD's to fellow seinor WR Jordan Smith. If BGA can contain Corn Elder like Baylor did, i'm not sure that Ensworth's QB Bowers can shoulder all of the offensive playmaking. Should be a great game to watch. Go Wildcats!

  18. why have there been so many teams from the mid-state playing all of these schools from Ky. I can remember when BA played Olive Branch on ESPNU, but why are so many teams doing this when it really doesn't matter for your record?

  19. Another first post to talk bad about the coach! Congratulations. Do you feel better about yourself now? I can assure you that we all know Coach Euverard very well and in no way is he watching something on TV and running what he saw. He will do a good job if allowed to. Despite having more talent than in recent years? So, you must be a huge fan that has seen MBA many times. Why come on here and try to belittle a coach if you are such a fan? Sounds like sour grapes to me? huh? am I right?

Well im glad you feel better about yourself now that you try to #### on an honest question asked by a high school football fan. Or are you that guy that is always trying to remember his glory days when he was on a football team but never stepped foot on the field? huh? am i right?

  20. I agree with you...it was easily the worst MBA performance I have ever seen. It's hard to single any one particular thing out, when everything was equally bad. BA ran between the tackles with ease. BA ran to the edge with ease. BA had wide open receivers, and the QB faced no pressure at all. The only thing that momentarily slowed them down in the 1st half was two holding penalties.

Chris Chauvin was the RB and DB coach at BGA and even called the offense for their JV last year. Why is he the D coordinator?
