  1. really? cause rivals has him listed as a Shooting Guard... scout calls him a wing... and usa today calls him a 'combo guard' Must play forward because he's in Shi##$#y east tn
  2. you must mean best guard in the conference that also plays football right?? I love Coty but he is not the best guard in the conference, I can think of at least one guy over at the hill whose better....
  3. I was up in Johnson City to see the Toppers tonight..Wattad showed some things tonight that just really impressed me. The Toppers defeated Mt. Juliet (Strong State contender out of Nashville) by about 17. Wattad's ankle is still hurting him but he is a COMPETITOR. He would drive by his man and give it up, get on the ground, rebound and shoot GOOD shots. 4 for 7 from the field with 14 pts, 11 rebs, and 8asts. He is a complete player that at the college level may never be the go to guy. BUT he could definitely get a lot of clock. He could be a great role player that Georgetown will need to win. He truly just wants to win. Tremendous young talent and I myself am proud of him for the way he is making everyone in that maroon and gold better.
  4. I've watched all the Senior class of TN travelers play ball over the last four years, (both wiggins and wattad played on this team). and to say omar shoots 50-60 times a game is rediculous. In fact, looking over my statistics, the most shot attempts he ever has had in his career was 27 against Meridian MS in the Arby's classic. He is a career 55% shooter, and a career 45% shooter from 3P. He is hurt, and also he's been in the weight room all summer, (gaining muscle mass throws off a shot.) As far as who is better: The bottom line is both of them are good. Ask Antwaine how hard it was to come back from an ankle injury this summer. The entire AAU circuit saw him drop from a top 50 player, to out of the top 150 because he was hurt. Since he regained his strength from the injury he has been putting up great numbers. Omar needs to get better inury wise, and his production will increase as well. Good luck to both of them, as they are both unselfish, care about winning, and will both be representing the east TN, in D1 basketball over the next four years. (I don't think another player east of greeneville can claim that from this senior class).
  5. Wattad's situation is peculiar indeed. He has been offered an athletic scholarship, however at this time georgetown has 14 players for 13 scholarships. Meaning, unless someone transfers or declares for the draft Wattad will have to walk on for one year. But even if no one transfers he will have a scholly as a sophomore. If someone transfers from Georgetown Wattad will be the recepient of that scholarship. OR if for example Roy Hibbert or Jeff Green declare for the draft in march, Wattad will take there scholarship. It has nothing to do with wattad not getting a scholarship, it is simply Georgetown not Having one to give. The word from his AAU coach, from people in the Wattad family, and from people in Georgetown is that Wattad will be at least a 3-year athletic scholarship player, if not a 4 year athletic scholarship player. So to answer your question yes he has an academic scholarship, pending the availability of an athletic scholarship. Does that clear it up... (or confuse you) cause it does me too. For wattad's i guess it doesn't make a diff because school is paid for either way. But if someone goes pro, it alleviates the Universities need to dip into its academic scholarships. Kay?
  6. Look at the time log "tribe" i posted on a saturday from my home computer and I am not in high school, I graduated and have kept up with east tn basketball. I advise local college coaches and aau programs of talent in the area so as to try to give these kids an opportunity to be seen. lets face it. NO big time D1 coach is coming to watch big 9 ball except during the Arby's classic. Getting these kids in AAU gives them a chance to get scholarships. Thats what I'm about. Not silly accusations, and demeaning comments towards the players. I want them all to use basketball to pay for an education.
  7. I believe last years 15 and under squad had a player from DB (i think his name is Justin Sylvester?) but I am not sure. I usually don't get to watch the younger teams because they are not always playing in the same tourneys as the 17 and under squad. From the one time I did watch them though, Sylvester seemed to be pretty quick, point with shooting guard tendencies (think iverson just for a comparison, no where near the skill level, but style of game is similar). He seemed to be a pretty promising prospect. He's not very tall but his ball skills were good, and he played solid defense. Improved consistancy on his jumper could help, he seemed to have no fear attacking the rim, but his size hurt him when he did. Hopefully he will pan out, I love to see east TN guys do well. I usually follow the 17 and under squad for the Travs as they are the guys getting the most looks from year to year. I hear about the young ones coming up, and I know that last years 15 and under squad was one of the most athletic trav's squads to ever play. Sorry I can't elaborate any further, I've only seen justin play once.
  8. I hate to let you know I am not Omar Wattad. although I do wish I could play ball like him, alas I am not him. I do admire his game, but I have been an East TN basketball fan since the early 90's. (ithink omar was in preschool at the time).... look all I'm saying is the kid is good. I don't think sHHs is the team to beat, but I do think omar is the best player in east TN. including wiggins. I had the opportunity to follow the TN travelers this summer and I watched these kids play in almost every tourney this summer. Oglesby is the best shooter on that team. Wattad is the best all around player, and Wiggins has the greatest upside potential. I could write a thousand page discertation on the strengths and weaknessess of each player on that team, and I could even go back and give you insite on past TN travelers teams, all I'm saying is as a citizen of east TN, and as a former member of the Big 7(now big 9) i recognize talent when I see. it. I feel sorry for people like Tribe all Da Way who have no idea of the amount of work these guys put in to get where they are. If you cannot cheer for the talent in this otherwise sparse area of the state then don't bother watching or commenting. Being critical and being constructive are very different. Tribe you have some growing up to do young man.
  9. first of all- Unless there are two heatplayas Wattad is not heatplaya. I know the kid who signed up as heatplaya, and it is not Omar. also alot of these coach t members signed up in shared networks, so unless the person remembers to sign off, anyone using the computer in the network will be identified as the last person signed in on that computer..... on a second note... wattad's shooting performance was horrid last night. 4-14 and his usually smooth mid-ranged game looked off. However in his defense he did play great ,,, defense. and distribute the ball fairly well. The whole team played great defense however... No knock on Mo East, but it is hard to see how good a player is against a team that barely gets the ball past half court. Likewise I don't think this lopsided victory is indicative of how good/bad SHHS may be this year. They struggled to hit shots in the half court offense, and NO ONE, including Wattad, attacked the rim. This could be a problem they need to address as the season continues because not everyone will fall victim to the press as easily as mo east did and they will need to solidify both halfcourt offense and defense to win against stronger opponents Third note... Wattad is still the best player in the area. If he were on Central everyone would be gunning for them, if he were on DB people would argue that they were a shoe-in for the state. If he were on Greeneville he and wiggins would be the best two-players on a team in the state... etc..... So as much as people may dislike SHHS or Omar, everyone can readily admit he is an extremely valuable asset to any team he plays for.
  10. They are both good. But if I had to choose (RIGHT NOW) I would go with Wattad. He has a more polished game offensively (better passer, ball-handler, and shooter). Wiggins greatest assest is his length. It provides him with a hard-to-stop first step. After watching him this summer, against quicker defenders his ability to penetrate was diminished, and the rest of his offensive game was not polished enought to help without that first step. If i was choosing on POTENTIAL I would go with Wiggins. He is 6-7, (wattad is about 6-5) he has the potential to put on weight, and could become a huge match up problem. I need another 3-6 months of watching Wiggins to see if he can improve the rest of his game
  11. Wiggins has a sweet stroke from outside. And at this level great post work and ability to finish inside. He needs to develop a mid-ranged game, and an ability to create shots off the dribble, because he won't be that tall at the college level( he'll be playing the three, so the post game is not as important as a mid-range game) Wattad has a sweet stroke from the outside. And AT THIS LEVEL great post work, and ability to finish inside. But he adds a solid mid-ranged game, and a very good ability to create his own shot off the dribble as well as create for others. What Wiggins has that Wattad doesn't is pure size and length. IF he gains weight, and improves those afformentioned areas he has a higher upside potential, but if I had to pick right now I'd choose Wattad because he is more ready at this time.
  12. Gabe is not the leading scorer in northeast tn. but he is the leading senior scorer, which will probably get him mvp
  13. that guard from east who you cant remember his name is Isaac Snapp I believe and he is a sophomore. What make him more deserving that Wattad? MVP is most valuable player, you think science hill would be anywhere near where they are without Wattad? The fact that east tn conservative coaches may not want to let a non senior is the only reason (albeit a very bad reason not to give some one an award they deserve) Wattad might not win this season.
  14. Forney scored zero against Greenville. Wattad hasn't scored zero since pre-school. He is clearly the leader of that team. As a matter of fact Forney only had 1 double digit game the last 5. Bad time to hit a slum especially if he is the go to guy.. As far as Omar not deserving it because he has a good 2nd guy on his team like forney? that too is ridiculous because Gabe has a better 2nd and third (weatherford and hess) then the science hill 2nd and 3rd (Forney and ???). Also, Wattad now has over 1500 points, and he is 'ONLY"a junior. He scored over 600 this year. Healso is a two time captain and leading scorer for the second straight year on his team , Not to mention leading the conference. Take Wattad off of Science Hill and what do you have? A team far less talented than Central for sure, and many others in the BIG 9 as well.
  15. Wattad and Wiggins was a great matchup.(both had 27 pts.) But Wattad did not get scored on by Wiggins except for 1 3 right in his eye. he did not guard Wiggins due to the refs calling some horrible fouls on him. Wiggins however could not slow Wattad down 1 bit when Wattad got his motor running in the 2nd half. I also look at more aspects of the game...such as assists. Wattad had 4. Wiggins had 1. Rebounds...Wiggins 9 Wattad 7. So it was about even throughout the game. Wiggins is more athletic but Wattad can handle the ball and pass much better than Wiggins. There both great players but on an off night Wattad can help his team in other aspects of the game offensively and defensively. Wiggins may rebound to help his team but he cant create for his teammates like Wattad. Hey they are both playing on the TN Travelers this summer...that should be a tight duo...not to mention Tony White JR. and Terrence Oglesby
  16. Agreed, Forney dropped a goose egg against Greeneville. i don't think wattad has had less than 10 but once this season. and that was against Charlotte, FLa.
  17. Wiggins didn't dunk on Wattad. That was a lob play on a switch where Wattad had the passer, and the post didn't switch down in time. Well designed nonetheless. Greeneville was better than Science Hill, but I'd take either player if I was a D1 coach. Thing is Wiggins has to get bigger, and Wattad has to get more consistant shooting. Greeneville manhandled Science Hill on the glass and in every phase of the game, but Wiggins didn;t "dominate" Wattad, they both played great, the game was won, as it ususally is, by the supporting cast, or lack there of, besides crowder, for science hill. The rest of the hill players did nothing. good job Greeneville.
  18. Wiggins had 10 "uncontested" free throws in the last minute and a half of the game so both of them (wattad and wiggins) got points in garbage time. That block at the end was also help side rotation by Wiggins, wattad was being guarded by 13 (Boone?) on a switch. Still it was a good block but it also happened in garbage time. No one should be criticizing wattad or wiggins, or for that matter Crowder or Moore, or even boone or Rhyans on science hill. They should complement the Greenville team effort and question The Hills lack of contribution from major players. 0 from Turner, 0 from Forney, 2 from Lauderbeck, and 0 from Collins. Thats their seniors and they got 2 from all but one of them.
  19. Wiggins scored more because he was the key to beating the press. SHHS fouled him intentionally 7 times in the last minute and a half, and he hit all but 3 free throws. Thats 11 right their. As an individual matchup they (Wattad and Wiggins) were dead even. Wattad had the edge until he picked up the third foul and went to the bench. That is around the same time Greeneville went on a 13-2 run and pushed their 4 point lead to 15. From their it was a strategy game, and they traded free throws for points end to end. Both players were solid but greeneville clearly had the edge in depth and was the better team tonight. Wiggins and #23 (don't remember his name) were solid, plus Greeneville out-rebounded the hill by a lot. Crowder and Wattad scored 48/61 where was Forney? (I think he put up a goose egg). SHHS needs to get it together at district if they want to have a shot at a rematch at regional.
  20. Unapproved Website Scouthoops.com unapproved website.com None of these have Wiggins close to Wattad. UT, Georgia Tech, Southern Illinois, Penn State all seem to think so as well. Who is the best player Wiggins has ever played against? I don't remember him playing bucket for bucket against Simeon point guard Derrick Rose. Or out playing Javaris Crittendon (top point guard in the country) in the Arby's classic. Wiggins is good, but he needs to beef up and play summer ball if he wants to further his chances. That is the only way it gets done, whether it is right or not. He may even be a better player, but you got to prove it against better overall competition and that is something Wattad has done in AAU, Wiggins hasn't proven that playing for Greeneville. Nor did he do it in North Carolina. He's good though, but just not as exposed, which is a huge part of making it to big time college ball.
  21. Not many scouts because a lot of college teams play tomorrow. Also you are sorely mistaken if you put Moore, Wiggins, or Forney in the same class as Wattad and White. Those two, along with 3 point stroker Terrence Oglesby are the 3 best players east of Nashville. Period. Moore, Wiggins, and Forney are all really good players, but they lack the overall game and shear experience (AAU ball does wonders especially if you've played since you were 8 as have White, Wattad, and Oglesby). But that is why basketball is a team game so it will be a good one btwn Greeneville and SHHS. I would really like to see coach Duncan let Wiggins play with the TN travelers this summer, as he would really benefit from that national experience and exposure. (imaginge White, Wattad, Wiggins, and Oglesby on the court playing together.... whew thats tough to defend).
  22. Thats not completely accurate. He actually is not getting recruited by as many D-1 schools as Wattad and that is the reason he will probably be the first Greeneville player in years to play AAU this summer, so he will get a scholarship that he deserves. But saying that Omar is overrated is unmerited. This kid works hard and, everytime I've seen him he has played very unselfish basketball and is really a great player. They both will be successful players in the future and hopefully both in D-1 schools.
  23. I've seen them both play several times and wiggins is not better than wattad at all. he needs to gain about 20 pounds to even touch him. Defensively?? your joking right. Greenville may be a better team, but Wattad is way better a player. Ask any scout service or college coach and they'll tell you the same.
