Anyone know what Fant's role will be? Rankin has always been an offensive coach so doesn't seem like he's there to be OC.

dont depend on that Tiger10 feller to get that role right.....appears what Tiger10 thought was tru trusted tru insider scoop Tiger10 was breakin.....was parently baited a bit

The Chargers here in Englewood had a few epic battles with the fighting Irish back in the day....thinks there was a stretch with ND lost to Alcoa, Signal Mountain and McMinn Central ......always liked playing the Irish.....

no stretch that Memory Booger can recall that all 3 above got the Irish in same season.....thinkin maybe Englewood & North Red Bank Mountain both got it the Irish either year before Fant was HC or Fants first season as HC in 12'.....the Irish werent good nuff to start challengin them Tinheads from Alcoa for Gold Balls until both the semis in 14' and 15'

.....Booger nose that Englewood beat what Booger thinkin was one of Fants best teams in 16'....very talented....but that was an extremely rare fractured Fant team....the Chargers had that big Long kid totin the rock that year....hard to imagin with all the kids Englewood kids that went on to play a lilittle saturday FB, that Long kid didn't...

....no doubt ND had the players to challenge Alcoa for a 3rd semi in a row that year

....and yes always good contest against Englewood back then

I’m not the boro spokesman so hypothetical matchups aren’t my thing. I think the boro is like D2-AA in that it’s top heavy. Haves/have nots. Lots of good teams and bad teams in both leagues between 11-18. Coaching better in D2 was my point. Seems you agree

Did their decline coincide with the move to D2? Better competition and coaching in that league

Absolutely not!....thinkin bout 21-3 in first 2 season in D2.....and guarontee BoroFootball coachin dint decline it....might have been a couple years tween 11'& 18 BoroFootball could even have collected 7 or 8 W's

The Irish in a tough league...with the improvement at Boyd and CCS....seems like there are some challenges especially in getting the athletes to be competitive.

It will be interesting to see if they go with older coach or an up & coming young guy.

irish been in a tough league for a quite some time.....even before them North Brainerd Levee CoC'ers  and The St Elmo Sword of Joshua Full Gospel Independent Pentecostal Assembly just of Broad St on Charger Dr started collectin a few extra W's....some challenges for sure Charger64...and those challenges are even greater challenges when your not one of the Alphas in the league..

....all about the J & J's Charger64...all bout them J & J's....that Fant feller had bout bout 40 ballers collect scholarships on over Vermont Ave....bout 30 or so those in a 7 yr window....guessin bout 20-25 of them D1's...2 to the NFL with 2 of them players havin Superbowl contest rings (one a championship ring).....and high likely a 3rd headed to NFL .....maybe not so much D1's in last 4-5 yrs, but still some incredible young men

....Not so sure what difference in old or young makes at this point

...Charger64 gotta b excited to get another season goin down there in St Elmo

Is this a job that  Tygard would want? He coached there before. When was the last time ND was good? I know they had decent run a while back. Was that a fluke or is that sustainable there? Just an outside that’s curious.

not anymore.....2018....No Fluke and it was not

Coach Fant seemed like a great guy. Wish him well! I think there are many different schools in Division II that are trying to determine if they want to/ or can afford to invest in everything it takes to have a good football program. I’m not sure if ND can or wants to invest all the resources to compete? (Literally not sure, they could be, I just have do not have w any knowledge of there comprehensive plan for football). Hope they hire a great coach, Chattanooga is turning into a wrestling and football town!

and great leader of young men....pretty sure he's gonna be just dandy.....huge asset to the institution that has now secured him.....and pretty sure thats goin to show immediately......and that institution is not in flux on tryin to determine which way they want to go in the competitive sports arena of D2....especially Football, facilities and the value it has on a whole institution....

.....ND indeed could...but a Joe load of stuff has to align......along with all the correct folks once again in place..... and whole system from top to bottom, to include Alumni, have to be committed.......the HC that just resigned proved it could be done from the first season he was hired as HC for the followin 6 or 7 seasons in a row.....then a bunch of that system went quickly away....basically between the endin of one season and the beginnin of the next.....that system hasnt corrected itself...nor a similar plan and its top to bottom commitment put back in place....ND football hasnt recovered since...

....ND just had a great coach resign...and a coach that had great coachin staffs from the day he was hired until he resigned......their may have been seasons, dependin on who is judgin, where one staff may have been stronger either with certain individual coaches or stronger as a combined unit.....but that Fant feller was never without a few, if not many, seriously qualified assistants around him

....Chattanooga has awlays been a restlin town....and we shall see how much turnin to football it becomes

....those south Middle TN privates will not allow those trophy cases go without new hardware for long

I was sad to see this one.

you and a ton of others....hopefully his decision to resign will be good for all in the end....hopefully the new ND Head and new AD will commit back to the things that let Fant make those huge runs a few years back....but whoever lands the biddin war on that Fant feller gets a huge asset...whatever hes ends up doin

  9. What are your thoughts on who the Head of Notre Dame and its first time AD hire to replace Coach Fant. Will the two powers that be, three if the Dioceses has to play in, make a splash hire? Or will they throw a patch on the hole that was left after the Fant resignation? Its been a top secret evolution so far.

Going to be very interesting to see the direction that ND goes in relation to how the future of it Fighting Irish Football program will look.....

The one that gets violated the most is the part about 1st contact. The student has to contact your school first according to the rules and yet I have watched just about every D2 AAA and AA school (and a couple of A) have coaches, parents or other school representatives go up to kids' parents and introduce themselves at games especially in Metro middle schools. Heck, I have watched it done by public high school folks too.  Blatant violation.
