Plus, how the heck are cowbells and sirens NOT considered artificial noisemakers?! C’mon, that just seems like trash in my opinion, especially ringing them while the QB is giving the cadence. I am no fan of MS State but at least the SEC makes them stop ringing when the QB is under center. Even though USJ should have kneeled with 20 seconds to go, after listening to those cowbells all night, I chuckled at the last score. The crew doing the game on the radio/stream even contacted an official with TSSAA and he said yes, they should be warned and then penalized for the noise. Oh well, Go Bruins!

The TSSAA rules on "artificial noise makers" only apply to indoor sports. No such rule exists in the TSSAA football guidebook.

    More cowbell? :-)

Ncs just couldn't get the ball down the field. Usj defense was legit. And if it wasnt a for a trick play ncs wouldn't have scored.

    Totally agree.

Only advice I could give to Davidson Academy is spread the field offensively. USJ defense will not be man handled.

When attempting to tackle USJ's big back go ankle low because he lowers his head like a battering ram and being on the receiving end of his helmet appears to be quite painful and unproductive.

Early prediction USJ 35 - Davidson Academy 14......USJ's coaches had those young men prepared well for NCS.

The first match was a close one under dry conditions. This semifinal game will be different, with rain in the forecast much of the week and even potentially at game time. Both teams were forced to pass the ball last time as the defenses kept the run game in check for the most part. I believe the advantage this week in "playoff field conditions" will go to the team that establishes the best run game.

NCS won the turnover battle and out gained the Bruins in the first meeting, but still required pretty fortunate turn of events to take a late lead after trailing for 3.5 quarters. McClary had his best outing of the season by far with 256 and 3 TDs.

USJ had Andrew Smith at the helm most of the first half, with Cody Smith returning in the second quarter after several weeks absence due to injury. Each threw a TD pass. The senior has taken the majority of the snaps since, but mobility remains limited and field/weather conditions could be a big factor in determining how effective he can be.

I expect another close one, likely a one score game late. They say it's always hard to beat a team twice, but NCS certainly found a way with Fayette last round. This one may indeed come down to coaching. If they can establish the power run game, protect the football, and avoid drive-extending penalties, the Bruins may just spoil the Eagles perfect season and punch their ticket to Cookeville.

I played 7 years of football on Keeton Field before it was named such, and watched at least as many seasons from the home stands before and after that, but Friday night will be my first time in the visitor stands. I suppose it's time to see how the other half lives!

Great post Bellsburg2! You summed it up very well.

Looking at USJ's schedule I see an impressive, albeit loss (11-21) to a strong 4A Crockett County last month. To hold that high scoring CC team to 21 is a testament to USJ's defense. I see that loss as more impressive than NCS's win over a relatively weak 5A Hillwood.

Rain chances are 60% throughout the day and during the game.

Although the c.a.l.preps projection for this game is NCS 28-20, it doesn't factor in weather, and I see a USJ win in this one.

I would go ahead and make hotel reservations in Cookeville if I were a USJ fan.....there's a jinx for you! :-)

Landsdell is going to get fired after this butt whooping tonight!

Just In: Landsdell just signed a 3 year extension, got a raise, and found time to watch ALOT of posters eating CROW. NCS has enjoyed many great years. This is a rebuilding year, but expect this team to get better each week, and improve. Congrats to CA South!

  5. Here we go... Yep, Dresden overrated. Weak opponents. Got lucky breaks. Too small. Too clumsy, fat, & slow. Heck, Lions such a pushover & Charmin soft Greenback will breeze thru. Don't practice too hard Greenback lest y'all hurt one another over there in them mountains of E.TN. Shucks y'all, us flatlander hicks from the sticks out here in Podunkville ain't gotta chance against the gargantuan Greenback Goliaths. Wowser... our lil boys so scared we already changing our drawers. Sho nuff is!

Acceptance is the first step.....let Dresden's recovery begin Brother.

  6. Can't wait til Friday! Two good teams and both playing really good on both sides of the ball!

Alright Wildcats. Its your TIME! That Dresden QB is not an accurate passer when he's running for his life, falling down, or on his back. I guarantee you nobody has hit him as hard as you guys can. You guys have the best coaches and fans! Now go out there and get it down!

    Wayne 42 - Dresden 24

  7. I know this is the wrong thread but I gotta give props to #8 Kenny, that kid took a beating last night and never missed a beat! He played with a lot of heart and determination!

Yes, he did the best he could considering he had Mack trucks hitting him about every play. WC takes physicality to a whole other level. Dresden will discover that early on.

The last two years especially that WC defense hits you HARD EVERY play. It sounds like a demolition derby when WC is playing defense.

Dresden is certainly the best 1A team WEST OF THE TENNESSEE RIVER, but that's where it ends. Maybe that should earn a Bronze Ball or a Cinderella slipper, I'll leave that to the Western TN contingent. But 7 PM Friday night is the equivalent of midnight for Dresden, and their princess carriage is going to turn into a pumpkin, and by 9 PM, the field will be littered with  seeds as one looks down from Ned McWherter press box.

  8. Matter of opinion.....the Defense of the Lions is far superior than what they've seen.

Dresden has a lot more offensive weapons and options.

    Right now...probably a 3 TD game.

If you take out Union City, which is of course Dresden's toughest opponent all year (and no disrespect to UC, but they are way down compared to UC of the past), the combined records of Dresden's other opponents is 33-71. Defense??? Far superior??? How can you make such a statement enlight of the facts?

WC's defense is going to sack, rush, and intercept Dresden's QB all night. This time next week the term OVERRATED will be applied to the teams in 1A West of the TN River, especially Dresden. This has been the fact the last two years. Dresden has not seen a defense like WC's.

  9. NCS passing 97 yds 0 tds

    Rushing 273 yds 3 tds

WC Passing 272 yds 4 tds

    Rushing 223 yds 1 td

I see Preston Rice as Mr. Football again. Scoring TD's, stripping the football twice, "Dude" refuses to lose. Of course he has a great team around him but from a stats, leadership, and competitiveness standpoint, how can you not chose him. He DA Man!

  10. The rain will bring your reign in 1A to a halt tonight.

The rain will complement your tears as you and your ilk make your long sad journey back from Columbia Academy tonight. Only a fool or a frenchman would conclude otherwise.....and although Marion Countians emit a foul odor, I will give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you stink less than a frenchman, therefore you aren't the latter.

  11. I think both fan bases are nervous/excited for the first time this year! Anything can happen but sticking with Wayne County-28 NCS-10

Holding NCS to 10 points?????? You must hit the sauce very early in the morning.........IF NCS loses it will be more in the range of 42 - 38. But thanks for the Bulletin Board material.

  12. Most agree that this years teams in 1A are some of the strongest ever. Were the eventual winner of the Gold Ball earn that coveted award with an undefeated record, and almost all their wins (regular season AND playoffs) were done by huge wins, and they averaged very high scores in the wins (most mercy rule games), and only very low scores and stats for the worthy, good teams they beat... Were the Gold Ball winner to do this I say such a team would be one of best ever. Why not? Dominant wins over everyone. On both sides of ball. The defense stopped and limited the other high power team with high-calibre athletes and award winning players. It was a jaw-dropping surprise none saw coming. Shut em down and soundly thrashed them. Even those highly recruited big-college players. They were overshadowed by the much better winner of Gold. So yes.. This scenario would be waaay up the ladder for calling it the best team ever. For sure the best team at that school. But of course the pride, tradition, community spirit and family ties of other past teams at other rich-tradition programs with their own amazing achievements, such will never admit another team was better than their best team(s). Humans don't usually do that. So I predicting, saying ahead of time in faith & believe that our Lions will win big in 2016 playoffs against the best of the best. There will be no doubt after each game. The win will be convincing in every area. They were great teams that Dresden played, but our Lions are just that much better. This is my crazy dream I saying out loud. :D But whether we win big & boldly, or ugly & barely, no Lion thinks it'll be an easy cakewalk or not a battle of the ages against amazing teams & winning programs, with much more rich & better history than us newbies at this trophy stuff. But winning against such championship teams will inspire Lions to do the same. To eventually equal then surpass the records & awards of the best of the best. If others did so, why not us? If others, Why NOT US?.. Well, it CAN be and WILL BE us if we do the same things, have same heart & habits, emulate their attitudes, execute plays like them, same discipline.. Do as good as these worthy champions, plus a little better. Good, better, best, never let it rest until your good becomes better, and your better becomes best.. with a never-ending progression & striving to be, no matter how great one is, to be faster, stronger, smarter, tougher, better... always better. Do so in the little things, at every practice, in academics, in community service, in family & friendships, in respect & learning from all, and on every down in each game. The difference between ordinary and extraordinary is that little bit of extra. Do so one day at a time, one game at a time, one season at a time, and do it year after year over a very long time... Then you got something. Now you're a top-calibre team. And YOU as a player, as a team, and as a community will know it! The haters are always gonna hate, doubters doubt, and whiners make excuses and poke holes fault finding with anything possible. But you'll know, and the ones who matter to you will know & care too. And that's what counts! Without such a dream, vision, plan, & goal... why even try? Yes the game itself, win or lose, is VERY VALUABLE and teaches amazing lessons in life. But if you say you want to be winners & champions... rather than just try & hope to compete, that makes it different. And it's these such differences & qualities of building & being champions I have been sharing. And will continue to do so as needed. Perhaps. We_'ll see. But for now, in 2016 GO LIONS! Prove to everyone you ARE the champs! Leave no doubt! One at a time men. Take care of Union City tomorrow. The harder the battle the sweeter the victory. So do it... DO IT BIG!

Thanks for the sleeping aid! I got about 20% through your diatribe and woke up 5 hours later.

  13. Last I seen was 70% showers starting between 8 and 9, hope we in the other 30% until after the game then it can rain the rest of the weekend

This could spell trouble for WC. As great as the Rice family of QB's are, they ain't mudders, none of them. I bet there aren't 4 mudders on the whole WC team. NCS has a stable full of mudders.

NCS's QB is a mudder, this kid loves the slop, he eats the slop. His father was a mudder, even his mother was a mudder. NCS #11 is another mudder. The kid literally runs on the slop like a gazelle being chased by a hungry lion.

If NCS can keep it close in the first hour, then I like our chances. I'm praying the 70% becomes 100% starting at 5 or 6. The Jet Stream might be NCS's saving grace! GAME ON!

  14. Im sorry for you that Hillary lost and your boyfriend left you but there is still a life for you out there somewhere!

I have no beef with South Pittsburg fans. I'm simply pointing out the facts. GSPAA has played the worst football on the road the last several years, in fact I believe it's way less than .500. I understand most of GSPAA fans are emotional and not rational. That's great, bless your hearts.

But numbers are numbers, facts are facts. If "ya'll" want to blow sunshine and brag about mercy ruling an undefeated team at home, go ahead. But that "Lansdell Man" can flat out coach and he'll have those Dawgs ready to go. He was national coach of the year . http://www.columbiadailyherald.com/article/20160321/sports/303219986

I'm just trying to save Bass, PiratePrideChump, and the rest of your ilk, from another crow eating fest like last year. We heard this same level of over confidence last year when CA came in like a rabid dog and chewed the peg legs off da pirates. What was the score again, 56-28? No wonder you all mail ordered some transfers in.

I really expected some compliments and pats on the back for trying to instill some humbleness into your ranks and get "ya'll" grounded. I'm just so hurt and disappointed...........

  15. You are correct TT21. I've studied most of Dresden's games this year and it's amazing how many play makers they have of the field. We have 3 good running backs, 4 or 5 receivers that can catch almost anything and Dresser (no description needed). Defense is fast and physical. If we have a weak point, I would guess it's line play but they have improved this year. Along with that they can be sloppy and undisciplined at times and if that team shows up we can be playing basketball in a hurry.

Upset Alert - Dresden is due for a let down per the numbers and statistical probabilities. Computer sayeth:

                                                                home field

    [2016] Union City (TN) 35, [2016] Dresden (TN) 31
