  1. rulefollower, Why don't you include your name and email? Aren't you an elder at the church?
  2. Yes you did! Your boys played a heck of a game last night. They made big time plays and hit big time shots and I expect them to do the same tonight. Would not be surprised if they played a 5th game. Good luck!
  3. Ok, so you are saying you choose to believe what may have been said by a student versus what was said directly from the parent? I'm 100% sure, of what I heard the parent say as to why and how they made the decision to come to CPA.
  4. Rulefollower, So should kids not be allowed to come to CPA and play basketball if they come in middle school or later? Or do they have to start kindergarten at CPA to be eligible (in your opinion) and fair to other CPA students? You don't have your facts correct regarding Blackwell. Mr. Blackwell told the group of basketball parents in a pre-season meeting that they were prepared to send their son to BA, (not Ensworth) and the reason you state was b/c of a call from Lindsey's mom. That's not the story Mr. Blackwell told as to why they decided to come to CPA and I trust if you heard it from him you would have no reason to believe otherwise. I would suggest you talk to him or any of the CPA parents and ask them their story as to why and how they decided to come to CPA. That way, you have the facts and not innuendo.
  5. To CPA posters: There is a saying, “If you convince a man against his will, he is of the same opinion stillâ€. I think most of you know by now, that no facts, logic, or any kind of persuasion will change the minds of those convinced that CPA’s athletic program has an unfair advantage, whether it’s true or not. They have concluded that because CPA is a private school, have better coaches, too many coaches, too highly paid coaches, unlevel playing field, recruits, have AAU teams funneling players, too many rich parents, location, too many wins, or you name it. And therefore, I don’t like them. It doesn’t matter if you play or abide by the established rules b/c the rule makers (TSSAA) are not fair, even though private schools do not have a representative on the board. They must have good lobbyist. There is not much you can do to change whatever perception they have. It’s like the kid that cries, “not fair†every time they lose or things don’t go their way. As you know, this is not new, I remember back in 2000 when CPA was competing for it’s first state football championship; I was standing with my daughter in Hardee’s and heard a child ask her dad who he wanted to win. He response was, “not CPA, we don’t like them, they recruitâ€. Most people who have been on this board for a while, knows that 95% of its players who played on that team started in kindergarten and a few in middle school. I can only remember one player that had transferred in and he was from California because his dad was in the ministry. My suggestion would be to stick to the discussion of the sport itself and not response to the posts of: kbrks, ucsportsfan, bigchief, hedahe, thebrooklynbrawler, etc. Yes, it will be tough to hold our tongues, but if we don’t bite at these untrue and attacking posts, then they won’t have anything to respond too. Except, maybe each other. We don’t need to defend to keep defending CPA when we know it’s not going to make any difference in their perception or opinion.
  6. Maybe if CPA can't land him, Coach Foozeball can.
  7. Hedahe, Not trying justify any AAU team and don’t feel that there is a need too, especially to you. My post was simply a second response to questions regarding the CPA players & when they enrolled at CPA and whether they played on the same AAU team. I was pointing out that there were over 20 players from that AAU team that were playing at other schools and also some very talented players. I cut & pasted 3 names from the Tennessean from this past Friday’s games showing that they were the high scores in leading there teams to victory. There are more players on various teams that I have pointed out in previous post, it’s just that the Tennessean usually only list the top scorer. Brentwood HS has had 3 players on their team this year that were the high scorer for their team and mentioned in the Tennessean (over 20 points in those games) who either played on the AAU team or was given individual lessons by one of the coaches. BHS has only had one loss this year. BGA has 3 on their team that has been the high scorer or double figures that were once members of this AAU team. They have also had only loss one game this year. Both of the losses for BHS & BGA were to CPA and CPA only had 2 players from this AAU playing against them, the others were still playing football. Personally, I don’t care what you think and I know from your previous posts you have made up your mind regarding CPA whether your opinions are based on facts or perception and that will not change no matter what information or facts is presented to you. I hope CPA fans or supporters are not wasting their time worrying about whether you or other posters “FEEL there is something not exactly rightâ€. If CPA had only 1 player from this AAU team it would not change your perception. Yes, this AAU team you refer to was started by a CPA and an MBA dad, so are you honestly surprised that there are more boys from CPA than say, schools in Murfreesboro, LaVergne, Antioch or other schools around Nashville? You and a few other posters are jealous, CPA haters and are trying to find ways and reasons to marginalize CPA’s success. Believe what you want, say what you want, but it’s not going to change the current CPA team. Whether these guys came in kindergarten or the 9th grade, really doesn’t matter or change anything.
  8. Just happen to notice in the Tennessean that these three players lead their teams to victory on Friday night and they also were part of the same AAU team that the CPA players were a part of: Collinwood 61, Wayne Co. 40: Logan Montgomery led Collinwood (20-1, 8-0 12-A) with 21 points. MBA 52, Ensworth 49: Elliott Morrissey had 20 points to lead MBA. Ravenwood 79, Nashville Central Chr. 77: Matthew Hailey led the Raptors with 21 points I also saw where the Maplewood AAU team member had 22 earlier this week.
  9. I don't know. Do you know a kid that was on financial aid at MBA & transferred to CPA? If so, why don't you contact his parents and ask? Are you assumimg b/c he was at MBA he was on financial aid? If it's the kid I think you are talking about, I know his parents both have great jobs and can afford either school.
  10. Actually Richard enrolled at CPA for his 6th grade year, but didn’t come to CPA until the 7th grade. Bonds – Came in the 8th grade Lindsey came in the 8th grade & wasn’t going to school in Murfreesboro even if he didn’t come to CPA. Allsmiller came in the 9th grade, he played 8th at Grassland MS, so you could not have seen him play for CPA in the 8th grade. He has two older sisters that also went to Grassland MS school and went to another private school in their 9th grade year. Very similar to what Coach Jeff Fisher decided to do with his daughter and two boys that both played football for CPA starting in the 9th grade. There are several other families that have done the same thing after their kids finished at Grassland MS. Yes, they all played on the same AAU team at one time and they were coached by Coach Maddux as well as 8 other coaches in the years that they played. You may call it a pattern, and you obviously don’t like it, but nothing illegal. Just as it wasn’t illegal for the other 20 or so players that played on the same AAU team and went to other schools.
  11. Rulefollower, It’s pretty apparent from your posts, you have issues with Coach Maddux. Maybe it’s something you need to address with him personally rather than on CoachT, since it looks like most of your posts involve CPA and the boys basketball team. If you want your son to play on the team, then why doesn’t he join? Coach Maddux doesn’t have try-outs for his high school team, so any young man that wants to be on the team is welcome to join. But, he will have to earn his playing time. Here are the facts on the AAU team you are talking about that involves some of the seniors on the current CPA team. The truth is that most high school players today that start for their school teams has played with some AAU or travel team prior to playing high school basketball. Not much different than baseball or soccer players. This AAU team you speak of, was started by a couple of CPA & MBA dads when these boys were in the 5th grade. Most of these players were guys that played against each other in the WNSL league. This team was started under the TN Tigers organization, which was started by Cleve Harris years ago and later became part of a newly formed TN Select organization. Drew Maddux was not the original coach, He was asked to coach the team so the dads could avoid the problems you sometime run into when you have dads coaching the team. Coach Maddux only coached the team 2 ½ years and there have been over 9 coaches and assistants over the years. Coach Maddux had very little input in the selection of the players on the team, and the couple he did recommend, were only average players at best. The first team had (2 ) Oakhill/MBA players, (3) CPA players, (2) Grassland players, (1) Goodpasture player, and (2) BGA players. Over the years there were around 30 players that played on this team. There were some try-outs, but not widely announced each year b/c most players returned and we only needed to add 1-2 players each year. Some of the players on the team also played with other AAU teams and may have only played in a few tournaments. We did have many requests for boys to join the team, but the player numbers were usually limited to 9-10 players so everyone could get playing time. Even though CPA had several players on this team, there were also (3) players MBA, (4) BGA players, (4) Brentwood HS players, (1) at Maplewood, (1) at Collinwood, (2) Ravenwood, (2) Franklin HS, (1) Goodpasture, (1) Brentwood Academy, (1) Davis Lipscomb. Yet you very seldom hear talk of these players playing on Coach Maddux's AAU team. Most start on their teams and several are their teams leading scorers or best player. It’s not a strategy as much as you think, b/c many high school boys and girls coaches, coach AAU teams for additional income and this has been the case for many years. Some even have give private lessons or have coaching clinics, like Coach Brooks did when he was at CPA (private lessons).
  12. The CPA Administration does not nor does any other school administration have any control of this forum or any other blogs that want to spread rumors, use misleading information or assume they know facts when they haven't been privy to any of it. Your statement "and it is even worse when the claims are falsely stated to be in the "best interest" of the student", is made without knowledge. What facts or quotes to do have to say that statement was made by CPA administration?
  13. Slight ankle sprang, should be back Tuesday.
  14. Didn't have much choice when you have a copy of their letter saying the kid is cleared to play.
  15. It was sarcasm, but true. They highlighted the wrong box or line. Truly their mistake and I agree, not much love for TSSAA.
  16. They checked the wrong box, and then said oh, our mistake. Why do you feel the TSSAA can't make a mistake? Not much better than the NCAA in my opinion.
  17. TSSAA sent CPA a letter confirming date of eligibility and he was allowed to play staring on that date. TSSAA sent another letter saying it was their mistake and he would not be allowed to play any more names this year. Because it was TSSAA's mistake CPA will not & should not be penalized.
  18. TSSAA sent a letter to CPA giving them the date of eligibility. He was allowed to played based on that information. TSSAA then sent a second letter saying it was their mistake and he would not be allowed to play any more games this year. Because it was their mistake, there is not penalty for playing and it shouldn't be.
