  1. It's an accumulation of all your posts. Your constant negativity towards other teams, "homerism" towards your own team and relief to be out 11-AA next year makes it difficult to cheer for our 11-AA member. Good luck to all the guys tonight.
  2. I guess my "flippant" dismissal of 10A is because I have watched 10A for many years and over the years they have sent some really good teams to the State - 2012 McEwen, 2010 & 2011 Clarksville Academy (in recent years) - and even to the sectionals going back over the years. This year I don't think anyone who is honest believes that the district is as strong as it has been. Has WHH played their schedule and put themselves into a position to make it? Yes they have. That still does not mean that they are good. As McEwen Alumni points out, they are not nearly as talented and good as some of WHH's previous teams or other 10A teams that went deep. And I really didn't believe that 9A was as down as they are this year when posting. Sorry for hurting your feelings but I just believe it is what it is and I try not to be a homer when it comes to my teams. I think you have to be able to know when your team is not as good as usual and admit it. That having been said when you realize your team is down you still need to cheer hard for them because that's what fans do. Good luck to everyone.
  3. You make it hard for 11-AA people to want to cheer for Cheatham.
  4. If Heritage is the best team that this section has to offer to the state tournament then Lord help us. Again, as weak as I have ever seen it, 10A, Region and maybe lower half of area as well, haven't seen them. But if they are not better than this Region then A basketball is worse than I thought this year in this area.
  5. Not sure what that means but I think the 1st round scores proved me right. WHH got a win but I don't think they'll make it out of a region. Could be wrong. Guess you don't like it that 10A is down this year.

Cleggy Posted Today, 02:10 PM grendal, on 21 February 2013 - 07:05 PM, said: This is by far the worst this region has ever been.I cant think of one player in 10A that will play college ball.I hope Petrone loses and I will be happyHe must have cut you somewhere in time. Why the hating going on? Although I am just guessing, I would think he feels this way because Petrone is the biggest arse in high school basketball, IMO. Petrone is a jerk and he has been since before he got into high school basketball. Again IMO. Still doesn't change the fact that 10A is weak.....
  7. This this is a good set of picks.
  8. Saw every team in District 10A @ least 1 time this year and saw all 3 of those teams more than once. I live in the area compromised of District 10 and having been watching District 10 sports for over 20 years. If you think Heritage, NCS and Jo Byrns are legit then you haven't seen much basketball. 10A is as weak as I have ever seen it. The 3 you speak of are the best 3 in the District but in comparison..............Heritage got beat by NCS 2x and got lucky to get out of McEwen with a win in OT. Again, overall not a good district this year. That having been said the other side of the Region may be weak as well but I would not think they are as weak as 10A. I hope a 10A team makes it to State but just don't see it happening.
  9. I'll be shocked if a 10A team makes it out of region. All the teams play hard but definitely much weaker than normal this year. I won't say no way because anything can happen but none of these teams are State tournament quality. I just hope they don't get embarrassed in region play.
  10. I'm glad to hear that. I think it is awful when coaches tell kids they can't play other sports. Spencer is a good baseball player and definitely solid up the middle for them. Mullinax was a pretty good baseball player up until he went basketball only. He could add some depth to their pitching staff if he can dial it back in on the mound. If Coach Cash could get J'Honathan Smith to come out he would have another good pitcher.
  11. Rumor has it Waverly's basketball coach has "suggested" to basketball players they not play baseball. Any truth to this? Losing Spencer would be a loss for the baseball team. Who is the senior pitcher and where's the transfer from? Any new players and transfers can always help
  12. Is this a rumor or is Coach Puckett out for sure?
  13. I am in no way overlooking Spring Hill....I simply said Creek Wood has the easier bracket. Spring Hill is a tough out for anyone. But no one can argue that the top bracket of this Region is not one of the toughest in the State. Cheatham, Waverly and Giles are 3 very good teams that are sectional if not state quality. As for the bottom bracket it is not easy by any stretch. Fairview has defeated Creek Wood at CW and Spring Hill obviously beat Giles...so there will be no easy road to the sectionals
  14. I do think Creek Wood has the easier bracket to make it to the finals. But at this point, with the way Waverly is playing, there is no way to say they are equal to Cheatham Co. and Giles Co. If Waverly gets back to playing like they did in the early part of the season then they have a chance. Waverly's problem will be their lack of size inside, that's where Cheatham has the advantage and Creek Wood with Morgan as well. No matter who makes the finals you want to make sure and win it because the loser gets to see CPA! And I have watched them all play multiple times, preseason scrimmage be d**ned, CPA will not lose to any of the Region 6 teams, Cheatham included. I hope I am wrong but don't see it happening.
  15. The only way he should be eligible is if he moved and is now zoned for Heritage. But who knows. As for WHH playing well, they are playing better than anyone else in 10A and that's all they need to worry about now.
  16. Earlier in this topic there were comments about how weak 10A was this year. You mention the league being down as well. I think it is proof of the weakness of 10A that there has not been 1 comment on this thread in a week! Yes the games are more competitive but 10A may well be 1 and done 1-4 in region play. Nothing against the kids and how hard they are working but outside of district play this district will struggle.
  17. McEwen Alum, as Beagle said the technical on the Cheatham bench late was deserved. I am not an alum of either team but was in attendance. The manager may well have said something but I do not believe Mr. Ref heard anything because the ref that called it was on the opposite side of the court. What he SAW was when he called a foul on Cheatham the manager and a couple of other guys took a couple of steps out onto the court in protest, an absolute no no! I do not care who it is if they take a couple of steps out onto the court it will be a T every time.
  18. Let me first say my son is a few years removed from middle school. However, he did play for a TMSAA sanctioned school and had to use a drop 3 bat, prior to BBCOR. That having been said, all of your guys middle school sons must be some studs! My son played middle school ball for 3 years and it was with rare exception that the drop 3 bat was not too much for them to handle! There were always a few kids bigger than the rest who could handle the weight and several 8th graders were okay. But as anyone who has watched a kid's physical maturity change from his 8th grade year to his 9th and so on knows, there are many, many middle schoolers, including 8th graders, out there who have not even hit a growth spurt! I think having watched many, many, many middle school games I would definitely agree with OLDMAN23 in saying that a drop 3 is too much for the majority of middle schoolers to handle. The game would be much better served if they could use senior league bats. Obviously the weight difference is significant and IMO the drop 3 causes a lot of middle school kids to develop some bad swing habits trying to to get that bat around. I know there will be some responses about how it's no problem for my kid, etc., etc., but if we are honest I don't see how anyone could say it was not difficult for the majority of middle schoolers to swing that drop 3. I agree with SOUTHERNFRIED that they will have to swing it in 9th grade anyway and that we are supposed to be getting them ready for high school but physically it is difficult for many of these kids to swing that bat. I think a lighter bat helps them develop a proper swing and that is what you are shooting for. That's why the younger age groups of travel and rec ball allow kids to use a drop 8 or drop 10. Again, I know there are kids out there that are big and strong and can handle a drop 3 even in 6th grade, but there are many more kids that cannot. If you are in an urban area in a big school your athletes are going to tend to be bigger and stronger because you have many more to pick from. The more rural areas you see is where you don't have as many kids to pick from and I have seen many 6-7 graders weighing 60 pounds soaking wet. They will grow and I have seen many of those kids turn into great ballplayers. I think it is much more important to develop good swings and you do so at those ages with a bat you can handle, IMHO. The TMSAA and some of you that have posted disagree with me but I think it would be much better game with a lighter bat. That having been said, good luck to your horses this spring in middle school ball.
  19. I would tend to agree that if Waverly lacks anything it is size. Although Cheatham has a size advantage against Waverly, in the games I have seen them (Cheatham) play, they do not use it as I thought they would. Against Creek Wood they did not use it at all and it cost them I believe. That having been said I believe Waverly wins against Cheatham by 10-15. IMO their up tempo style will cause Cheatham problems and IMO Cheatham is less disciplined than Waverly and that will allow Waverly to pull away. Creek Wood's press seemed to rattle Cheatham a little and if CW's press rattled them then Waverly's will completely unnerve them. But on any given night who knows and if Cheatham plays well against Waverly it could be a great one. One advantage Cheatham may have is Waverly has to play Dickson County Monday night and turn around and catch Cheatham Tuesday.
  20. I think wildcatalumni laid it out about as good as you can. The only good thing for Quad 3 is someone gets to make a run to the semis but then that will be it I am afraid.
  21. Shep, normally your posts are pretty dead on. However this 1 is not. There's no chance for this JB team to be "above average." I have seen them a couple of times and they are just down this year, along with I think the rest of 10A. I said in another thread 10A will compete with one another in Quad 3 but once they face another Quad it could be ugly. Hope I am wrong and good luck to JB this week.
