  1. I still think the state just needs to bite the bullet and go back to 5 classes for publics and 2 classes for privates. The top 4 in each region making the playoffs and the current postseason quadrant alignment should both be kept. We used it from 1993-2008, and I still believe it was the cleanest, simplest, and most optimal system we have ever had IMO.

Even as a die hard fan of a school that has been a direct beneficiary of expansion (2 gold balls and 1 silver in the current system with a fair shot at another this season), I will freely admit that sacrificing quality in favor of quantity ($$$) has largely been a complete mess.

  2. I'm not gonna hate too hard on Dyer County. They decked us out of the playoffs a few years ago when nobody in the world gave them a chance. For that, I will never take them lightly. Newbern always has some good players. However, I don't see them hanging very long with this HC team. I think it'll end up along the lines of 42-14.

While I will agree that Brentwood isn’t great, they’re better than anyone on MJ’s schedule except maybe Lebanon.

They also just went 7-3 against one of the toughest schedules in the state. They're not world beaters, but not sure I get the hate for Brentwood.

There’s no good Solution to the travel problem for HC. Memphis and that west district isn’t exactly close. There’s no good way to get to HC from anywhere except HC. Lol. The Clarksville schools going 6A is good for them, but made it difficult for HC.

This same topic comes up every few years.

The Memphis region would actually be even worse lol. HC really is in no man’s land for 5A/6A football.

It’s absolutely nothing new though. Wasn’t too long ago they were in a Williamson County region. And when I was there in the 90’s we played in this weird blended hybrid region with a few Clarksville and a few Nashville schools.

  5. I'm starting to think West might mop up 5A this year. It's not a bad year for 5A, they just look ahead of the curve. One of the most impressive resumes out there. Not just the wins over Alcoa and Maryville, but also a decisive victory over Farragut (the only team that's beaten Beech).

Sounds Very much like a metro situation. Poor facilities, poor coaching, undisciplined kids, all around bad.

It's simply a school system administration that doesn't care about sports. Never has.

Athletically, they could be another Murfreesboro if they wanted to. They just don't. Or at least they just don't care to invest what makes that possible. And whatever, that's their prerogative I guess. It costs a lot of money, time, and resources to be good at pretty much anything.

Yeah well I’d argue NE gets a bit more talent over there. However I’d assume kids at Gallatin would be more “coach able”… with that being said he clearly is not the answer.

Northeast could stack talent with the best of them when they were up, but it's hard to build and maintain a program with no middle school ball to draw from.

That said, I don't think I've ever seen a Gallatin team that didn't have quite a bit of talent. And there's a lot of old blood and pride in that program too. They should definitely be a lot better than what they've been the last several years.

I am gonna go ahead and start this one, I enjoyed watching East Robertson win their region tonight, BUT I missed Springfield football. I am going off of someone who has seen both play and he is saying the Jackets should be able to handle business without QB1, if we can do so I say we do that. Truth be told I have no idea if QB1 will even be back this season, I hope he can at least make it back for the playoffs. Having said that, the kid's health is the most important thing and should be treated as such...

Early prediction (Assuming QB1 is out)

    SPT - 26

    PHS - 13

What grade is Crenshaw in? I would hate for him to miss the home stretch of his senior season.

24-20 final. HC wins. PT scored on last play.

Ugly game, but good win. Even at 3-4, Tilghman is definitely not a bad team.

I don't know PT's injury situation at all, but I'm proud of HC for finding a way to come out on top with numerous starters out.

Now, onto a much needed bye week...

2 important starters on D getting hurt in the 3rd didn’t helped HC at all. However, Springfield came to play in the second half. Hats off to Springfield, they got dominated in the 1st half and could’ve gave up. It till some *** to go for 2 and call that play with the game on the line.

    Who got injured?

Just a heads-up for you folks in Middle and East Tennessee. The AP has Munford at #4 in the state, and In my opinion, they deserve to be where they are. Not sure they can challenge for a Gold Ball, but their talent is several steps higher this season than it has been in the past. The Memphis paper has them ranked #1 in their local power rankings, regardless of classification.

My Covington team is always competitive in 3A, but Munford opened the season by taking us to the woodshed 28-7. Their offense features a dynamic QB (Bell), a game-breaking running back (Sharp), and a transfer speed burning wideout (Cobb) who transferred in from Memphis.

While their offense is doing great stuff, I was most impressed that their defense held Covington to only 7 points and contained 2021 3A All State running back Jamarion Dowell pretty well.

I hate to lose to a local rival like Munford, but I have to grudgingly admit that they are pretty good.

I’m still not sleeping on Munford, as much as everyone wants to count them out.
