  1. Top three teams win big. The 4/5 match up was a great game. I went to Powell to watch the games and the night cap was a well pitched game on both sides and had some really good defense. Not often do you see a game into the 12th inning before a run crosses home plate and I don't recall ever watching a pitcher go 12 innings and get a complete game win. Congrats to Powell, Anderson County, Karns, and Halls on winning in the first round.

  2. Think Powell has a chance to make state this year?

I can't even recall without looking it up when a team from this district made it past the region. Powell has as good of a chance as I have seen in a while to represent 3 AAA at state.

  3. Sounds like he did pretty good lol

Oak Ridge looked like the team I thought they would be before the season started. Steen went all 7 innings and looked as strong at the end as he did at the start.

  4. As it stands now:

    1 Powell 6-1 (defeated Karns)

    2 Karns 6-1

    3 Halls 5-2 (defeated AC)

    4 AC  5-2

    5 Gibbs 4-3

    6 Clinton 2-5 (defeated OR)

    7 OR 2-5

    8 Central 1-6

    9 CC 1-7

Looking forward to some good weather for the start of the second half of district play this week.

  5. So after a week and some change, hows it looking?

Seems like the district is pretty clumped up at the top and clumped at the bottom and not a lot in between.

Karns, Powell, Halls, and maybe AC seem to be the early favorites, in that order.  Karns is just a solid ball club who does a lot to put pressure on the other team and doesn't beat themselves. Powell seems strong but streaky and Halls and AC seem to be too heavily dependent on who's throwing to take the top spot as of now.

Then on the bottom you have Clinton, Oak Ridge, Central, and CC.  Clinton looks to be in panic mode early with their HC being restricted and then dumped in consecutive games. OR, Central and CC just don't have the horses to compete with the upper tier.

I think Gibbs is the biggest question mark. Which half of the district will they end up seems to be a coin flip.

Karns, Powell, and AC look like the favorites to be at the top in the regular season to me. Gibbs could end up near the top if their pitching holds out. I think Halls ends up in the middle followed close by Clinton with Oak Ridge, Central and CC at the bottom. Once the tournament comes it could be a toss up with Oak Ridge and Clinton capable of upsetting the favorites.

  6. Thanks for bringing us back on topic. I am in perfect agreement with your rankings. With two of the best pitchers in the district and being so well coached, HVA will be hard to de-thrown as the district champions. With Jordan Lane pitching, ORHS should at least get splits with Halls, Powell, and AC; their abilty to finish #2 will depend on keeping pitchers arms healthy and getting their bats going. The problem last year with ORHS was no run support, as both Powell and Halls beat Lane by 1 run, with OR only scoring 3 runs total in those two games. The one that I'm "iffy" about is AC. If Hunter Tackett pitches and is finding the strike zone, he could get some upset wins with a little run support.

ORHS will only see Halls and Powell one time in regular season with the new division play. This is going to change how the district plays out this year. With only 10 district games this year there could be 5 teams end regular season with the same record.

  7. Any thoughts on the district being divided into 3 division?

From what I understand there will only be 10 district games 2 against each team in the same division and 1 against each team in the other divisions.

Divisions: Anderson Co., Clinton, and Oak Ridge...Central, Halls, and Powell...Campbell Co., Hardin Valley, and Karns.

  8. Couldnt happen to a better bunch of people. After The way I saw there Bball fans act at several games and their AD and principal condoning it, I wish nothing but losses on Halls whole program! The AD and principal should both be on the firing block as far as im concerned. This is great for the rest of the district. At least everyone will get one win, LOL

Why did you attend several Halls Bball games if you dislike Halls so much?

  9. I saw Karns play about 6 times in the past 2 years and I thought Rice over coached during games. I am sure he knows baseball but it takes knowing how to prepare kids in practice, once the game starts sometimes it is best to just let them play.

  10. He may not be a Cheater but he needs to learn when to put the darn tarp on

Why do you not understand he had the tarp on and had to get it off to play the game. I was there and I am at HVA now. Have you ever gone to a game or do you depend on uneducated post on message boards such as your own for all of your information?

  11. So does anyone know what they will do if they are rained out tonight? I was not saying the tarp should be on I am just wondering how far they can back this tournament up with the region starting on Monday?

According to the TSSAA calendar the district must be completed by Friday.

  12. I would like to congratulate Powell on what I think was a very good year. Going 13-3 in a district with six teams that could get a win over any of the other top six on any given night is in my opinion a very good year. They will continue to compete in the district in the coming years. As far as the chanting, I saw Powell play at least 4 times this year and I never heard it get out of hand.

  13. Just can't wait for tonights games to see if Clinton and HVA come out very motivated tonight because you know their coaches are feeding them the same stuff

Last nights rain out probably helped Clinton more than any other team. I hope they get to play tonight. I left last night once I saw they could not get the field ready and as wet as it was I do not know if they could have put the tarp back on.

  14. I feel like there is some cheating going on here. I think teams like Halls and Oak Ridge were running out of pitching. Yet HVA had only used two pitchers through two games and were in great shape. Therefore Halls "forgot" to put on there tarp. If very bush league and immature of their coach. I hope there is a rule set up by TSSAA soon restricting rbi.hs like this. Unfair advantage.

The field was tarped until they pulled it to get ready to play. At 4:45 what looked like a passing shower turned out to be a 30 minute rain that kept getting worse. Once the rain stopped they worked on the field for about an hour to try to make it safe enough to play but it was going to take hours to make it safe. I am shocked anyone who was not there would make such claims of cheating and calling a coach names.
