  1. There is nothing like high school baseball. The games are full of meaning, you are playing to represent your team. The lack of talent makes the coach have to take a strategic approach to the lineup. You cant tell me that a district game is more important than a sundday morning game against the Rivercats at the sportspark on the Coke Zero Classic and the Sunday Morning Special. I agree that you can be found better in travel ball, but high school is much more intense and means more to the players and coaches.

  2. What are some opinions on coach of the year? I personaly believe that Kirk Renegar is one of the best coaches Ive seen in about 25 years. The way he has his players disciplined and has them all come together like a school of fish is incredible. He has great strategy and always seems to overcome anything that goes wrong. Taking this program to becoming one of the beat teams in Knoxville is no coincidence.

  3. Let me put this in perspective

Drake is like Andrew Luck the number 1 pick in the draft because of experience and he is really good. But like Luck is overrated

Weyler is like RG3 a game changer the number 2 pick.

Painter is like Kase Kennum, he wins a lot but he won't be anything past high school.

Hagan is like Osweiler lots of potential and tall.

Durand is like Kirk Cousins he has all the tangebles.

And finally Skeen is like Brandon Weeden because how old he is but he always has and immidiate effect+

Knox who are you to say that a kid is to be nothing after highschool? This kid has had the best ERA in the district 3 years in a row. Honestly he deserves to go a lot further than people say. Kid is mentally tough, and always competes in every game no matter what. If I was a coach, this kid would be my top pick. So, do yourself a favor and quit putting stupid posts that no one really cares about on this. Thank you bye.

I dont know, knoxcobeat1 did minor in sports phycology so he could know what he is talking about. However, I like painter and think he could be a very sucessful D2 and possibly D1 pitcher. Congrats to him on pitcher of the year.

  4. First off, Congratulations to Hardin Valley for winning the tournament district title.

Anyone that got knocked into losers bracket 1st or 2nd game would have a tough time winning the tournament including HV. They didnt and they won the tournament. I would say HV has a great coach, great defense and good pitching. HV coaching defense is worth at least 2 runs per game compared to most high school teams and their pitchers benefit from that. They have a large advantage over all the other pitchers in the district. If Neely keeps progressing, he can be great.

Halls had more than a couple of great players. Ryan Gallion who also made all district and several other players really stepped up this year. Coach Poltston thought they would be a .500 team this year, but thanks to the hard work and efforts of the players, they win the regular season ditrict championship and are I think 27-6.

Agree that Oak Ridge should be a top contender next year and they need someone to step up at #2. They have some pitching talent that needs to be consistent and throw more strikes.

Agree CC is well coached, has some talent, but need more to be competitive.

AC struggles again next year. some young talent, but pitching and defense subpar.

I like Clinton as well. They are well coached. Their coaches do do more with less tham most teams. Losing Marsh will hurt them. He was such a cog for them.

Powell still has some talent but will need to hire a STRONG coach to take control of the program. When a kidd can curse the coach twice and feel justified, something is waaay wrong. Hard to say where they might finish till coach is hired.

Halls loses alot this year. I think they lose 3 or 4 of top 5 pitchers. They lose 9 or 10 seniors most of whom played. There should be more opportunity to play early for the first time in a long time. Having a winning tradition is a plus. Still, its is hard to see thme finishing any higher than 4. With tremendous hard work, they can make me wrong and I hope they do.

Hardin Valley will be prohibitive favorite next year. In fact, if they do not sweep both regular season and tournament titles, it would be a real failure. Most of the tradional powers will be down next year and HV was young this year and returns most of its pitching and that *(&*(&() defense.

I agree with all of your statements. Hv has a chance to be great with their upcoming sophomores (Hunt, V.Gambuzza, Pung, Neely, and Sears) Their outfield might struggle, but as long as A.Gambuzza is out there they cant be too bad.

  5. What about the beavers at Karns? Any chance they will ever be good again in your opinion.

Ohh sorry beavers fans i forgot. I think that Oster is all that Karns has. I dont see them contending for the district title in the future unless they get some sort of Dominican kid throwing about 95 mph. Also they might loose their coach which could affect their future.

  6. After and awesome win by HVA tonight (congrats!) I asked a parent from Halls about freshman phenom Will Nelly. He said,"That boy is God sent to coach Renegar, a sign from above. He looked like the Verlander of high school throwing it in there at 92 and 93. But Da*m it, it pisses me off. Good luck to them. And go Halls"

As a Central fan i can look at this tournament from an unbias perspective and this is what I have concluded.

Powell had a chance to do something great, but didnt reach the full potential of what they could be.

Halls had a team with a couple great players but didnt have the depth in the pitching rotation to win the tournament

HVA (repeating champs) had an all around good team with great pitching, and a well disciplined program. Kirk Renegar has this team looking like soldiers in the military. Its like they do everything right. This team has alot of freshmen and will only get better

Oak Ridge really reached their full potential, but untill they get a solid number 2 guy behind Lane, I dont see them going far. They have alot of upcoming seniors, so they are a definate contender for next year.

Clinton made it farther than everyone expected, I really like the program and what the players bring to the table.

Campbell County is very well coached. If they get some talent i could see this program as a threat in the future.

Anderson County did about what everyone expected. They had a bad draw in the tournament having to face Powell and Halls. Hard to tell what they will look like in the future.

  7. I heard it with my own ears. And I have perfect hearing. I mean I came to 7 or 8 Powell games and I only heard it once but it was offensive. Though it sounds like they fixed it. And all yall stop calling me no class, liar, and that other bull crap. Until you've been to prison and see what I've seen don't calm me that junk. "Only God can judge me."

Yea i heard it too. It was at the beginning of the season, but they fixed it. I would never let my sons play that garbage infront of innocent women and children. Have these kids never heard 70s music?

  8. There's no reason y powell shouldnt have won the district tourney this yr. No coaching or discipline is the problem. Powell needs to clean house and bring in a new coach that knows the game well and will put some discipline in the program. If powell was to get such a guy there's no tellin how good that program could be.

I totally agree, it just seems like the kids did what they want and when they want. The songs that they played before their at bats were vulgar and disrespectable.

  9. Not even close. Pfeifer is a whole different animal. We are talking about the best high school pitcher in the history of the state. Weiler has yet to beat anyone out of his district. Pfiefer flat out dominated just about everyone he faced. There's no comparison until weiler can win on a higher level than just district. That statement is so ridiculous. There is no comparison for pfiefer.

I totally agree, Weiler is a very crafty pitcher that wins alot of games but Phiefer was a overpowering high school pitcher that dominated the mound every game.

  10. Will Kirk pitch? I havn't seen him pitch in the tourney, is he injured?

I honestly dont think that HVA will pitch Kirk. Neely has stepped up to the plate (or should I say rubber) and i think they will give him the championship.

  11. Yes Sears will most likely be the leading candidate to take over at 1st base for Chase Kirk who is graduating.

Sears is a great player, I saw him play first out in Kingsport. He has incredible footwork and can scoop like its his job. He also has great power. Watch out 3AAA, we have a future star on our hands.

  12. I went college for journalism and parallelism is my greatest part of my thought process. I like to compare thinks in the strangest analogies. There was no harm intended with this post, just trying to make a comparison between the dominant pitchers in this district. But after last nights game it just made Wayler (sp.) Look that much better. I mean he had 7 ip 1 er 7 or 8 k's I dont think he walked anyone. Sorry if you took my post the wrong way but it was just an analogy with no harm intended.

    "I fly first class!"

That is true, I definately believe that Tommy Weiler deserves to win Pitcher of the Year. He has taken his team very far, and gives them a chance to win every game. Great player that will only get better!

  13. HVA 10. OR 2 final. HVA advances to the championship game.

OR came out with alot of passion and jumped up 1-0 in the top of the first. In the next half of the inning, HVA came out with 4 consecutive hits and scored 4 runs. It was like the were hitting the ball off of the tee.I dont think anyone will be able to stop HVA with their talent.

And finally Skeen is like Brandon Weeden because how old he is but he always has and immidiate effect.

Im not sure how high school baseball relates to the NFL draft, but I would probably say the Weiler kid is like a young Mike Vick.

  15. Quick question. How is it legal for the tournament to be played at HVA? It just seems like an advantage to them but I guess it equals out what happened last night (referring to my previous posts)

Im not sure how it is legal for HVA to get home field advantage today, but i am glad. HVA practically has a profession field, and Halls field is like little league.

  16. What direction does the Powell baseball program go after another under achieved season

I think that Powell will certainly have a decent team next year (talent), but this year they had a boatload and still couldnt come together to win. If HVA or Clinton had as much talent as them they would make it deep into the playoffs. Its a shame.
