  1. When we started this year alot of people said we would be lucky to win our district. Goodpasture lost 5 seniors after 2011 State Championship and some said this would be a rebuilding year. Well guess what the Lady Cougars made it back and played for their 10th state title only to come up short to a very talented Gibbs team. I am so proud of this team to go thru so much adversity at the beginning of the season and then to become a family with one heart beat is what perseverance is all about. Our two seniors are going to be missed not only as players but as positive role models for our younger players. Madelyn Hill and Brittany Elmore your leadership will be missed but you taught a few young ladies how to keep the tradition going. Goodpasture softball is not just a team but a family, and this family will keep the tradition going. Also what a warrior Mimi Cartwright is, she literally pitched 21 innings in 24 hours in the state tournament between Thursday night and Friday night, and carried this team on her right shoulder literally this year. Coaches Phillips, Cartwright, Spann, Blain, Peroni thank you for your countless hours of dedication and putting up with 12 teenage girls lol. I enjoyed this season and how the team came together and never doubted we would accomplish great things. Thanks for a great season and 2013 get ready for the Lady Cougars we will be back!

  2. Congrats to Gibbs and their program. Your players, fans and coaches all have class. It was nice to see two of the best programs ever in the state square off against each other. 18 state championships between the two teams now. 9 for both! I know we will see you again next year.

  3. What a great game. I want to say that Gibbs fans, players, and coaches have alot of class. Don't count us Cougars out just yet. Hope to see you at 6 tomorrow night.

Congrats to the Gibbs Lady Eagles tonight for advancing to the State Championship game in AA. Stay focused and bring home the Gold ball.

  4. What a awesome game. I need to give you some money to take with you.lol. just want to say Gibbs fans has alot of class and their team and coaches do as well. I have to say the better team won on this night, but don't count us out Just yet!

What a whale of a game is all I gots to say...

GP took advantage of some Eagle errors in the first to take an early lead... Gibbs hit the ball hard all game and Goodpasture found a way to keep runners on base most innings... And the 7th inning O-man...GP puts 2 on and ends up scoring 1 before Gibbs shut them down. Big turning point in the game. Verry verry verry good game to watch.

Wishing safe play to all the teams still in!!!

BTW... I'm poasting this from the airport with Vegas ticket in hand. :P

  5. I have to disagree don't board your plane just yet. I watched White house leave 8 stranded on the base and I left in the fourth. I think we will hit their pitcher she didn't impress me and White house put a bat on the ball just couldnt come thru in the clutch. Remember it was White House's first trip to state and they had those jitters. I will take Goodpasture and I believe it may be our best hitting performance this Tourney.

Yipp-eee.... 2 more winning picks. If I get this next one correct I'm boarding a plain to Vegas.

    Gibbs v/s Goodpasture.

History and tradition on both sides. These 2 teams account for almost 25 state championships. Should b a great game to watch.

Gonna have to go with the Eagles on this one. They have allowed 0 runs thus far in the tournament. GP has put some runs on the board but they have allowed runs as well.

  6. Congrats to Niki and the White House Blue Devils, I said it before and I will say it again our district is one of the best if not the best in the state. Good luck tomorrow and hopefully see you Thurs night.

  7. Watched CAK tonight against Chester Co.They seem like a solid team. It looks like they are Young also very similar to us. Should be a good game but I am a little biased gonna give the edge to the Cougars only because experience at state. Hope we both play well and there are no injuries.

Cougardad22, You must be a GoodPasture Dad. You will have your hands full Wednesday with CAK. They are young and fearless. Saw them play several times in Knoxville and they will surprise you. Their head Coach Harry is a class act and he has spent quality time with those girls preparing them for this State appearance. I hope they play their best like I hope you do and let the best team win. Good luck tomorrow.

  8. I don't have a young man on the baseball team, but my daughter plays softball for Goodpasture. I know the baseball team is loaded with talent and depth at pitching. It will be hard to beat them. Just my opinion but it is state anything can happen.

Not much being said about the AA state tourney. Who y'all got advancing and making it to the final game?

  9. Your correct at this point it would be hard to say a team got upset, but if Soddy don't win the first game people will call it a upset, and it's only because they are here year in and year out. Just like alot of people think if Goodpasture don't win its a upset, but in reality all the teams here are good or else they wouldn't be here.

At this level,(final 8 teams left) how could one say a team got upset? Unless one had a preconcieved notion about how the outcome should be.

  10. From what I seen East has given up more runs in games and I am guessing that is do to errors. I just don't see Uppermen beating Gibbs, but I maybe wrong. I say the edge goes to Goodpasture because they have been to this stage a few times, but they are young also so that could change the outcome also.

Is Cartwright different than Nunley or Willard whom they have seen a combined 5 times? East Ham has a puncher's chance in this. They have put up runs on every one except Nunley...They have beaten Baylor, Central and Mt Juliet...but have been blown out by Soddy, Baylor and Central also...I will give the edge to Goodpasture sight unseen because I am guessing they have more discipline. The Hurricanes have had very few error free games. But if they are capable of hitting her ( and 4 of them have seen her in TB) then it will be interesting.

Don't write off Upperman...they have gotten hot at the right time...

  11. Well finally someone to get us started. I am Gonna take Goodpasture over East Hamilton because I believe they haven't seen a pitcher like Cartwright this year yet. Gonna take White House over Lexington don't think they can do well with Niki Fogle on the mound, and White House beat a very Solid Creek Wood team. Not sure on CAK vs Chester co but judging by teams they have both played this should be a good game, but judging by opponents gonna take CAK. And finally Gibbs over Upperman. Gibbs has alot of talent and beat Unicoi easily. Can't wait to see what happens after day one and who may have got upset. Hope everyone stays healthy and cherishes this moment.

WOW! Almost 24 hours and no one has taken the bait?

    Aight then here goes mine.

Game 1 - GP over East Hamilton

Game 2 - CAK over Chester Co

Game 3 - White House over Lexington

Game 4 - Gibbs over Upperman

I havent been able to watch all the teams that made it to satate in AA this year but ill go out on a limb and say Goodpasture v/s Gibbs for winners final. CAK will surprise some teams and could be the sleeper.

Lets hope for good weather & safe play for all involved. Should be some good games to watch next week! :popcorneater:

  12. State Bound Congrats Ladys. Still work to be done. Two young Ladies played their final game at home for Goodpasture today, Brittany Elmore and Madelyn Hill two wonderful Young women. It was a pleasure watching you play, and I look forward to watching yall in State next week. This Program will miss you. Thanks for carrying on the legacy. G.G.G!

  13. Wow! What a classic game. Hats off to White House and Niki Fogle she will be missed for sure. Congrats to Mimi Cartwright for being a warrior tonight pitched a awesome game only giving up 1 run in 10 innings. It was a great game and both sides left everything out on the field. Special night for our seniors Britt Elmore and Madelyn Hill thanks for being great leaders and never giving up on your team. I am thankful my daughter has players like you two to mentor her and help her be a better player. Keep it going Lady Cougars nobody thought we would get this far but you can't stop a team that beats with one heart. Let's finish the job and win Friday vs Camden. I wish White House luck Friday and hope they get a win and we can have two teams from our district represented in the State Tourney!

  14. Goodpasture vs MLK postponed Game Tuesday at 430PM at Goodpasture region 5AA

Lots of rain yesterday. If anyone has word on whether a particular matchup for today's first round of regional games has been rained out or rescheduled please post it here and when it is rescheduled if that is known. Also what class it is for single A, double A or triple A. Thanks

  15. Very well said.

    This is getting good...

    1) Coaches don't vote for their own players.

    2) DI schools receive NO financial aide. GP is D1 so their students receive no financial aide.

    3) DII athletes can receive financial aide dependent upon their FASFA application and I beleive if they receive over a certain amount (50%) they cannot particiapate in varsity athletics.

Here is an excerpt from the TSSAA constitution:

"Section 3. For tournament competition there shall be two categories. Division I shall be schools whose student athletes competing at the varsity level do not receive need–based financial aid. Division II shall be those schools whose student-athletes competing at the varsity level may be the recipients of need-based financial aid."

Now that the facts are on the table maybee this thread will wither a bit. The truth is Goodpasture is a DI AA school that offers a quality education and has a strong reputation built on athletic excellence. This attracts players, they don't have to recruit. The same can be said of Beech, parents simply pay the out of county taxes and their kid can play for a school that has a strong reputation in softball. It's absurd to say or even imply that GP pays it's players for a non-revenue sport nonetheless. I'm laughing at the thought as I know several of the GP parents through travel ball, most of which are bleeding, making heavy financial scarifices to keep their kid in a moral, ethical, christ centered program with an outstanding reputation.

Look parents who put alot of time and effort into this sport move, pay, do whatever it takes to make it happen so their child's in a quality program. That's the bottom line. It does not matter if it's a private or public program. Cripes you have parents up-rooting to go to Beech and Riverdale all the time. Posts like these are made out of inexperience and anger. Let it go, look in the mirror and assign the resposiblity where it belongs. It takes alot of hard work, a dedicated team of parents, coaches and administrators to make quality happen. Having a quality pitcher is only one piece of a 9 plus piece set.
