  1. The 5th seeded Columbia Lions find themselves in the drivers seat of the District 12 4A baseball tournament with a surprising 2-0 record. The Lions beat #2 Ravenwood 9-5 Wednesday and the tournament hosts #1 Independence 8-5 on Friday. With the loss IHS had to work their way through the losers bracket with a win over Summit 8-5.

The final 2 teams standing with face each other for the second time Sunday at 3pm. Columbia (2-0) will have to be beaten twice by Independence (2-1) to force a "if necessary" game Monday at 6pm.

Either way both teams will also advance to regional play next week.

It is a shame that the TSSAA did not adopt the revisions to the sectional round. A single game of that magnitude ending a season should have been immediately changed. baseball is not like football, basketball, and soccer. A dominant pitcher is more valuable than the best player in the other sports. A pitcher has the ball is their hands at least half of the game. No other sport can argue that. Why should a champion in baseball be handled the same way?

For example, Brighton and Houston met in the sectional last year. Houston had the better team. Had they played 10 times, using 10 different pitchers, Houston would have won 8 or 9. Brighting threw a pitcher that Houston could not touch. Brighton won the game, advanced to state and lost their first two games. There is not telling how Houston would have faired at state, but had Houston and Brighton played a Best of 3, Houston would not have lost twice.

Basketball, football, and soccer have a good system in place. A dominant player in these sports is not as valuable to the team as a dominant pitcher is in baseball. The system should have been changed when it was discussed. Why was it tabled?

I do agree with what you're saying. The TSSAA is so addicted to "money", that would be a fantastic idea to have a 3-game series to see who gets to the "state". Baseball IS so much different than all other sports as you pointed out and the TSSAA needs to get on bound with the rest of the country. We pay $250/game to the TSSAA to live stream our games. It'll be $300 at the state. So the series would be a great money maker for the TSSAA and fans would love it too!

  3. This game will be a great game. It should be close, but you really never know. Forrest has a stable of great running backs and a very capable QB! Riverside has some veteran players returning on the line and they also have a great QB. We are hoping its not a messy field like in 2019, but the home guys will be ready for this team.

The @TSNSports guys did a very good job last night. T Roy and Noble? I know who T Roy is. Who is Noble? He was really good and he brings out the best in T Roy. They make a real good combo. Hope to hear these two together more.  Well done guys.

Thanks so much for the shout out. Troy Cashion and "Noval" Mayes are the best in the high school business, IMO. Not leaving out Ricky Sweeney, the best stat man in the biz.

And I take this very serious with production of the program. We are all very blessed!

Thanks again and thanks for watching.

The call was on the receiver not the offensive line. If #43 and #11 both are on the line the inside guy #43 can’t run a route. #11 points at the official but never Got a definitive signal and the ref didn’t hold his arm back or really tell him anything. The ref didn’t look like he knew what to do and timidly dropped his flag. I’d have to watch the entire game to see how he normally signals. Last year was a complete hose job this not so much. By game 11 the guys have to know where to line up. Exact thing happened to Groves in game 1. He lined up on the line and cost himself a 80 yard TD.

I looked at the video again....the "inside receiver" was NOT on the line of scrimmage.

Forrest announcers breaking down "ineligible receiver" call. Completely bogus and without merit.  They played it frame by frame. Inexcusable how refs miss that in a playoff game. If you DON'T KNOW THE RULE DONT FREEGIN CALL IT!.

For the 2nd year in a row Forrest got a "bad call" from the officials....The bogus "Illegal man downfield" this was unbelievable. The #TSSAA needs to get officials who know the rules of the game! Here's the video of that play....https://tennesseesportsnet.com/forrest-loses-2nd-round-2a-playoff-to-waverly-another-bad-call-from-refs/
