News flash... Waverly would have been good regardless of who was coach the last 4 years. We had the most talented class of kids to ever come through at once. And who ever said anything about a power house program? Nobody but you and I don’t see where your getting that opinion. He is a good coach, he has a great offense. Doesn’t mean the kids that played for him or the adults in the community liked him. Even Peabody peeps said in one thread, with that much talent and couldn’t get to state? Come on man. Get your head out of your rear.

So if McConnell would have never came there and Waverly still had Graves during that time they would've had a winning record? Come on we all know Waverly's football program was trash before McConnell came there. Seems to be a just old case of being jealous he left ya'll. We've had the same thing happen to us twice it the past 10 years.

Well as a Waverly Football alumni and supporter I appreciate what he did for our program, but, regardless of what outsiders like you think, a lot of people just didn’t like the guy and his side kick. As for me, I have my own personal reasons. That’s why you just need to worry about your little puppy dogs over in Hickman Co and keep your nose out of Waverly. For Waverly folk, it wasn’t just about winning football games. It was having the complete package for a Coach and I believe that’s what we have now. So good riddance.

:roflol:You guys after having a 5 good seasons think your some power house program. Before him you were just some little kitten everyone stepped on!!! Yes I haven't been around McConnell to see what he was off the field. But the man sure made a winning program out of nothing in Waverly. He is either a heck of a coach or the one both had no business coaching! Which one is it?

On a side note...it was good to see that #### WHOOPIN McConnell and his lil mini wannabe  on the D took Friday night. Held to 7 points. Didn’t think that was possible... not gonna lie, kinda made my night

It just amazes me the lack of respect some of Waverly fans show to McConnell. He turned that program around and took them to the playoffs every year. With some deep runs also.

Hopefully you guys will get things clicking for 4 quarters soon.

How do you see Fairview vs Waverly going based on seeing us both?

I didn't see the scrimmage verse Fairview. So I really can't say. What I know about the past Fairview teams this game could be very close or Fairview by a couple of touchdowns. Waverly's secondary is their weak spot. Didn't really notice it in the Hickman game but when Swenson throws the ball 7 times against them that says something about that unit. Huntingdon rarely throws the ball. 4 completions for 141 yards. Hickman just doesn't have the offensive style to throw the ball. Are ya'll passing the ball much this year? I know Hughes like to run the spread.

I reckon so. I have no idea what to expect either. I'd be interested to hear what some Hickman County people think. We played them in a 2 quarter jamboree week before season started.

This for sure isn't the Waverly of the past 4-5 years. The game was really close 3 mins into the 3rd quarter, 12-14 Waverly and 7 of Waverly's points were off a blocked punt on our side of the field. First half I felt like Hickman played better than Waverly but I liked said many of times our coach does a poor job making adjustments at half. We've had a lot of halftime leads and be blown out in the second half. Even someone close to the coach said Hickman comes out and plays terrible in the second half and that falls on the coach in my opinion. I'm not saying Hickman has great players but I've seen what we can be when we do have a coach that can take our players to the next with well disciple and off season program. Good job to Waverly on your first win of the season.

We had already  played Huntingdon Fairview  Lewis   and S,Gibson who was 9-1 that year... but it was only 5 weeks in.. So we had in fact played good teams at that time of the season and yall had  not played  Waverly  FairView us... so no not a double edged sword at all.  Ya'll had a  good team back then  but nothing that stuck fear into us.

Yeah that 9-1 South Gibson team got beat by 4-6 East Hickman. And the falling year got beat by us. I wouldn’t count them as a good team. Both in the first round of the playoffs. I say the Wayne County teams those years were better than Huntingdon. Yes it’s double edge sword. Same opponents but two. Accept it!

Was ya'll coach Swenson who is at huntingdon now?

Swenson was here from 2005-2007. He turned our program around and left for Huntingdon, which is my understanding where he’s wife was from. We’ve had 3 coaches since him. The other good coach we had was Rewis. He was very discipline and made his teams tough. The one good year (2014) so far with our coach now I give credit to Rewis. At times I do like Harrison’s play calling because he mixes it up. But his teams are not conditioned and disciplined enough to Rewis standards. We’ve had a lot leads in the first half and get blown out in second. We should have won the Lawrence County game but we got holding penalty after hold penalty and a few unsportsmanlike penalties in the 4th quarter.

Previous coach did good at the Jr. High level. McConnell is a good coach seemed to get out coached in the playoffs at times but all in all he is a pretty good one. Hopefully Randal can get the program back on track. McConnells first yr was in 2014

Yeah. But I was point out 2013 and 2014 seasons when we played Camden to Beagle. Who said we didn't scheduled tough opponents during that time. But had 8 of the same opponents as him. We also played Wayne County during that time and he can ask Huntington how tough and good they were during that time.

That’s the year both of yall lost to Waverly I believe it was McConnell first yr. Waverly beat Hickman by 21 points in the regular season and Hickman come back in the second round to Waverly and put a whooping on us. Waverly has beat Camden 5 out of the last 6 years and 5-1 against Hickman in the past 5 years. If I’m thinking correctly.

First year wasn’t but the second year it was McConnell first season there. Wish Hickman would get back to playing that type of ball but I doubt it will happen under the current coach. If I remember correct Hickman was 8-1 against Waverly before McConnell. It’s amazing how McConnell changed that program so quick. Says a lot about him as a coach and a lot about the previous coach.

You guys were 5-0 that year we were 2-3...we had actually played good teams

You will see how much better we are after Friday i already know

Saying we didn’t play good teams those two year is a double edge for you since Camden was in district and their was 9 teams. So we had the same opponents besides two. Good try!

  11. 1 hour ago, Beagle said:

Camden is better than both of those teams which is why we play  The Waverlys Huntingdons Riversides Lewis County and Creekwoods outside of our district .  We could rack up easy wins all day long playing Yall E.Hickman  Bruceton but thats not how you want to go into the playoffs.

Kinda like what Hickman done to Waverly for years. Racked up those wins! I only recall Hickman playing Camden twice and each team got a win. Have you seen Lawrence or Harpeth play this year? If not how can you say Camden is better.

Friday will be the big eye opener on the rest of the season.

Camden wasn’t very good, and Waverly was worst. Lots of mistakes and turnovers. Pass defense was non existent.

Huntingdon is a great team, a team I foresee making it all the way this year if they stay healthy. I did think Waverly defense looked better, but the pass defense is still horrific. We just don’t have the athletes to match up man on anyone but maybe McEwen lol.

I still believe Waverly will go 6-4 as region champs or 5-5 as a #2 seed.

Will have to see how things go Friday.

The offense has got to get better. I don’t understand why we run spread formation when we are obviously not a pass threat with no QB. Huntingdon stacked the box every time daring us to throw. Although I thought Stanfield did a good job considering he isn’t a QB. If we’re going to be a run team with no passing game we have to tighten the formation and our splits and run some misdirection and power football.

The pass defense has got to at least make an appearance. The only way I see that happening is playing zone and adding a pass rush/blitz combo.

You won't have worry about your pass defense in this game. Hickman may throw the ball one time and that's a strong may.

We played 4a Lawrence count and 3a harpeth. 2 schools bigger than us and Waverly lost to 1a Huntingdon and 3a Camden. Clearly we are doing better

Size of a school means nothing when it comes to how good a team is. Huntingdon is definitely better than Harpeth and Lawerence County but I'm not sure about Camden. I expect this game to be close and low scoring. HIckman by 7.

Heard yall.ran kinda like a wildcat offenese . Kinda what Waverly ran with r big back last year is that true

Yea. We’ve got two backs lined up to get the ball and the ball can go to either one of them. I feel like this offense will get better as the year goes. But like I said we’ve got stop getting penalties and moving us behind the chains. DL was in the back field a lot last night against Harpeth whose OL was much bigger than us.

No not a big turnaround.  If hickman had played lc last year they would have lost. Big difference in hickman and maplewood, marshall or dickson or columbia. No disrespect intended toward hickman. Just big difference in level of play.

Whats the difference? Are you saying that because those teams are in 4A and Hickmans in 2A? You do know Hickman was in the same district with Marshall not that long ago and Hickman beat them a few of those times. One of them was with Hightower playing.

Glad to hear things are looking up for the Bulldogs. You guys will find out how much speed you really have this coming Friday night vs Fairview. Look forward to seeing this big running back and how we deal with him (if we can).

He's not very big at all. Short and stocky. Hope for a injury free scrimmage between both teams!

Well good luck to Hickman County. Hickman use to be pretty tough idk what has happened to y’all.

What I've heard is the HC doesn't do much conditioning and is stuck in his ways. We had one good year when he came here because the previous coach conditioned the players like they should be. He's a hometown guy and takes us to the playoffs (barely) with those two things I doubt the higher ups will fire him.

  18. Seen some highlights from Hickmans scrimmage against Wayne County and it seems we have a few RBs that have speed and aren't afraid to lay the wood. And the starter RB was also destroying Wayne County OL. I hope for good things out of them this year. We also got assistant coach that coached the middle school here back in the 80s that left and won a high school state championship in Mississippi.

Hands on students never happened (there was video). He was at East Hickman before going to Scotts Hill as an assistant for one season, then as the HC. He could well have had issues with parents while there, but probably not the players. There was a vendetta to remove Coach Britt by a few parents when he was at SH, stemming from playing Freshmen ahead of upperclassmen... those Freshmen won state in 16', and were better than the players who felt that they had "earned" a starting position just by seniority. Coach couldn't abstain from speaking his mind on the matter, and just play who he decided... that was his downfall. Britt will not win many popularity contests, but after resigning in the fall of 15', his players petitioned our DOS to try and persuade him to stay, and that says a lot.

The report had I seen had that but also said there were previous records of him being written up besides the issues you described at other schools besides Scott Hill. But I do agree East Hickman has an issue with not supporting their coach and blame everything on them. They seem to think their players/children are top notch talent. This all started when East High school was built and the parents think that the success Hickman had previous was due to East kids playing at Hickman(Centerville).
