  1. After many of terrible seasons coaching the Father Ryan faithful Bruce Lussier finally sees the light and quits but some people might call it retire, either way he's finally gone. Who will the Irish get next year to coach them? Will it be from the current staff? Or a outsider? Or just maybe the coach that took them to their last championship in 1998, who happens to coach at Hillwood now? So many questions but at least we know that it's all uphill for the Irish now because they have been at the bottom for a while....

  2. Great win for Ryan - way to rep Tennessee!!  I am not sticking up for the whiners in Ohio, but I do know that Moeller played its last football game on November 29 (a loss in the state semis), over three weeks after Ryan last played (November 7), and a mere week prior to the Super 8 Duals.

Yea lucky for Ryan they can always count on their football team to lose before wrestling season starts.

  3. David Helton was one heck of a scrambler and cradle-man, personally trained by Mark Leen (Jordan Leen's dad).  He was a 3 time state-medalist, who won his state championship as a junior and then didn't compete as a senior because he wanted to stay healthy for college football. He also gave up his senior state championship to let John Mackey start at 215 (ended up getting second in an upset state finals match, Mackey plays football at Furman University) and B-teamer Barrett Gouger win his state championship at 285 (plays football at Vanderbilt University). Looking forward to watching this classy guy get drafted in the NFL.

I wouldn’t call him a great cradle-man because we all remember what happened when he hit that suicide cradle on TJ Satterfield in the Baylor vs McCallie match. And he didn’t scramble much when TJ Satterfield had him on his back. But congrats to him on the trophy I’m glad to see he’s a great representative of Tennessee wrestling and The Baylor School.

  4. With all due respect, you are full of crap.  I have no idea where you are getting this "information", but your source is not accurate.  Not gonna engage in any back and forth regarding unethical practices, but did you read the article this week's SCENE regarding the information on the MBA investigation that a court forced TSSAA to turn over to The City Paper/Scene? Nothing in there about Ensworth.

Oh I'm sorry, I’m glad that Ensworth doesn't control the media in Tennessee and TSSAA (like a certain Frist Family that donated millions of dollars to start the school). So go ahead read and believe everything that comes from the paper. I rather believe what I've heard from former players under Coach Bowers at Ensworth.

The TSSAA wouldn't dare touch Ensworth because they know that if they tried to penalize them Ensworth would take them to court (like BA did) and they would be bankrupt. And if you read me correctly I said MBA has done their fair share of recruiting as well just not to the extent of Ensworth. But lastly you won't see MBA players go take classes at Nashville State because they can't pass the classes at their own school.

Maybe Tim McGraw will sing a song about Ensworth and that will change my mind because he’s not bias. Oh wait....

  5. It has been many falls since anyone has able to beat Ricky Bowers and the other school off Highway 100 (in the post season). It’s very refreshing to see a new team (MBA) hold up the golden football. This is the best thing that could have happened to Tennessee football because Bowers was killing it by getting kids to play for him that had “academic scholarshipsâ€. Now maybe parents will look at other schools now to send their kids to play football at besides the school off Highway 100. Before everyone says well MBA and BA are doing the same thing. Ricky was (and still is) taking it to a level never seen before in the history of Tennessee football. He was actually sending football players to Nashville State to take classes because they couldn’t handle the academics at the school off Highway 100. That’s not helping anyone that’s only hurting the players because they think they can get away with anything because they play football (IE a certain former player for Vanderbilt). A school like MBA not only builds good football teams they also build great men for example every student (yes including football players) have to take Latin. I highly doubt Richardson and a certain former player for Vanderbilt were taking Latin.

I have only one concern. Will this loss make Bowers and Co recruit even harder for football players in Tennessee and forever kill what is left of what we truly love about high school football?

    Time will only tell.....

  6. I swear, there could be a thread about growing radishes and some people on this board would work Father Ryan into the conversation.  "Father Ryan grows good radishes in January, but in February their radishes are unbeatable."

Well said but I would have to say Baylor comes up as much as Father Ryan. The reason keep bringing up Father Ryan is because right now they are the "best" team in the state. And Baylor is to be considered the second best team (I know Murphy was hurt but so was Eli King). And everyone knows that McCallie won't beat Baylor it hasn't happened in years (2006 state duels). As team McCallie hasn’t even outscored Baylor in a tournament in years (except the 2010 McCallie invitational but three Baylor state finalists were out). I think a few years ago Baylor outscored McCallie 52-6 in a duel, that’s embarrassing and they are supposed to be rivals. In recent years this has been a very lopsided rivalry (I know there were some close ones here and there I.E. last year’s state duels). They don’t have a sellout crowd anymore because people know McCallie always finds a way to lose to Baylor (ever since getting the death penalty). And that is why people bring up Father Ryan because they will bring a better match then a Baylor/McCallie match. It’s the same with Father Ryan when they wrestle MBA this weekend no one cares about it anymore because everyone knows MBA will get killed by Father Ryan instead everyone in the Father Ryan crowd is talking about Baylor and the State tournament. Traditionally speaking the two best teams in the state are Baylor and Father Ryan and they will always be intermingled when talking about one or the other.

  7. Confirm any of the "facts" you and your friends have tossed out in this thread and we'll gladly argue based on facts. Continue spewing baseless venom disguised as fact and you'll draw responses like the ones you've received.

Have any opinion you want. But if you dish out those opinions in a reckless manner, don't be surprised when people respond abrasively.

Well I have talked to a LB that started for Ensworth a few years ago and he said that about everything that cowboypete has stated is true for the most part. Not sure about the Antonio Richardson part but other than that he said it was spot on.
  8. Ryan still plays hard. Ryan is well coached. Ryan can't match their leagues recruiting budget. Ryan should go division I.

Yes maybe they can't match all the teams in their leagues recruiting budget but they never have in their history. but there is one team they sure can match with and thats JPII and guess what they lost to them last year. And if they are being coached well then someone redefined what a good coach was because they haven't won a meaningful game in years. And a good coach will pull off an upset every once in a while but FRHS has lost everygame they are suppose to lose. They have lost to MBA for the last 13 years it used to be a rivalry but now its more of a secure Win for MBA every year.
  9. I think anyone who watched Father Ryan Friday night would tell you that was a different team than we have seen the past couple of years. The offense opened things up and threw for three touchdowns. The defense played pretty well except for a couple big plays. The Father Ran kids fought hard the whole time. The difference in the game was Overton had a couple D1 athletes running the ball and Father Ryan doesn't have any. Say what you want but that game told me they are headed in the right direction.

Yea it's a different team then the last two years they are worse. The last two years didn't lose to overton while this year did. And he can't blame his offensive coordinator this time because his old one that he fired coaches at overton!! And there is a reason Father Ryan doesn't have any D1 athletes its cause they don't win games!! No one wants to send their kid to a program that doesn't win games. To be honest they might not win a game this year. I just wonder how much longer frhs with put up with losing year in and year out.

  10. Father isn't going to the iron man next year the farthest they go north is to Cincinnati and the new word is that coach Simpson kight be fine with his now new head assistant coach and former wrestler of his Davis Dempsey. Because Davis really knows his stuff and can relate to the kids and is probably one of the most underrated coaches in the state. He is true technician when it comes to showing moves to the kids and will held guild father Ryan to another state title again this year

  11. If you're that close to the program and you know that they respect him so how did you not know Adam is no longer with Father Ryan he has taken a position in Ohio as a head wrestling coach. No sir those kids did not respect him. If you don't believe me go over there and ask the kids.

I think everyone in the father Ryan community has the highest respect coach Smith not only because of his achievements as a wrestler but also as a wrestling coach. I know Adam kabla is leaving for Walsh Jesuit thats also why i asked who was going to replace damon because i knew adam wasnt and I have talked to father Ryan people and I have never heard anything but good things about coach Smith. And you ask how he has helped Eli king? From what I have heard Damon took him under his wing and personally trained him.

I heard that Damon Smith has left father Ryan (on good terms he has other important things to take care of). I'm just woundering what will father Ryan and pat Simpson and company do with out coach Smith cause under his time there they won 5 state championships and helped personally coach up muliple state champs like mark marchette and tj holmes. And also coached eli king into the beast he is today. How will they find a replacement for him in time for the season cause those are big shoes to fill

  12. Who do yall think is best coach in D2? I think its Ricky Bowers just because he has been able to win so many championships where ever he goes and he really knows how to develop the kids not only on the football field but also as a person and in the class room. But i just want yalls oponion.

  13. you guys say that wilson county will never reach its full potential, yet they made the state finals last year.

you say they dodge the best mid tn has to offer, yet out of the 25 ranked teams last year they wrestled 20 of them.

you say they never schedule tough duals which is an outright disrespect to all the teams that they do wrestle, yet they have a big one that Coach Peck posted here with several of the tougher teams.

Why not just as men come out and say screw these kids and coaches;you cant stand them and will bash them online no matter what they do.

Yea they wrestled the 20 out of the top 25 teams but there are only a handful of teams that are good in the state. IE Ryan, Baylor, Cleveland, Soddy, CBHS, those are the top teams in the state the rest are really not that good. And look at what happened to wilson country last year when they wrestled any of those top five teams in the state. Ex Cleveland in the finals. There is no way Wilson country will ever beat a Father Ryan team coach by Pat Simpson because the ryan guys out train (as a whole) any team in the state hands down. the off season practices are harder than the regular season ones. Adam kabla has been putting the guys through the fire getting them ready for fargo and for regular season. Father Ryan has five guys going to Fargo no team in the state can say that. Even the ones playing football still show up to wrestling practice on the weekends during football season and week days during the summer because they know what sport is going to win and its sure not the football team at Ryan. And the whole wrestling team has been weightlifting since the season ended in February. I don’t care if Wilson country has 100+ guys showing up for practice it doesn’t mean anything because Father Ryan will walk the dog on them like they always have done and always will.

  14. Again, back to topic...

Can we antcipate one of our greatest perhaps rising to the top at ASU, a team that is consistently competing for the top 5-10 with many finalists; and hey, not a big suprise as they even got a one legged wrestler to gold?

If Mr. Baker maintains his intensity and off season work, it could be an amazing story for TN Wrestling!

    Again... .

    http://www.flowrestl...12-Summer-Break

Sorry to tell you but ASU isnt a team that is consistently competing for the top 5-10 with many finalists. They have had two in the last few years one was a transfer. In the last ten years they have only finished top ten twice as well.

  15. And also guys this is just MY list. Its MY opinion. If you have problens with it make your own list!!

    4. Nick Marable- CBHS 3x time state champ

How about 3x state champ and one of the scariest men in tennessee wrestling Arron Batemen. He destoryed kids out there. And all the kids you have up there are just that, kids and not any of them competed in upper weights like Arron did. He was captain of the football team and still won 3x state titles dominatly. He would have killed anyone on that list in high school.

  17. Ok ive made my list. These are, in my opinion, the top 10 wrestlers from the past 10 years for D2

    1. Jordan Leen- Baylor

    2. Nick Marable- CBHS

    3. Zach Watson- Baylor

    4. Phillip Simpson- MBA

    5. T.J. Duncan- McCallie

    Nick Gray

    Pierce Olson

Micahel Hooker beat Daniel Baucke and beat Alex Manely as well dominatly

  18. I know it’s only a few days after the state tournament but it’s never too earlier to look toward next year. Who is going to be the best teams in D1 and D2 for 2014 season and who going will win it for each weight class?

Here are my D2 predictions don’t have any D1 yet

    Top team D2 Father Ryan

106: Father Ryan’s upcoming 8th grader the all world middle schooler (can’t remember his name)

    113: James Westbrooks (McCallie,

120: Elijah Oliver (Christian Brothers, 10)

126: Hal Fisher (Father Ryan, 10),

132: Chris Wes. Father Ryan 10)

    138: Adam Connell (McCallie,11)

145: James Simpson (Father Ryan, 11),

    152: ??

    160: Bryson Popp (Baylor, 11).

    170: Ryan Parker (Baylor, 9),

    182: Nathan Hoodenpyle (McCallie, 11)

195: Ben Stacey (9), Father Ryan

    220: Brian Phillips (9), McCallie

    285: Jay Robertson (MBA, 11)

  19. I think that Mccallie will get blown away even though they should win on paper. McCallie has a way of choking when it comes to Baylor. Like the year when Mccallie set the record for the most points ever in a state tournament history for a team not to win it. And so when it comes to wrestling Baylor again this year I think they will choke again. But I also think that Houston C. has nothing to do with a Baylor win even if he wrestles 182lbs. The reason being he will be outweighed and out matched when it comes to mental toughness. Because Popp broke Houston and they were the same weight Hoodenpyle is bigger than Clements and he has an endless gas tank unlike Clements. Clements will get teched or at least maj dec Hoodenpyle and worse case he might get hurt because he is very injury prone as we all know. If I was Mr. Clements I might want to sit this one out because your team doesn’t need you. He could sit in the stands right next to his ole friend wrestle90. I think he is in wrestle90's age range.
