    Greetings!

My name is Walt Chandler and I am Kyle Chandler??™s father. I would like to add my oratory and opinion to this thread. I would also like to see your names as responders to this thread. It is very easy to hide behind an assumed identity and make comments. This I will not do. After all, the 145-championship match with my son and Camron Edafe has been made the center of this thread by someone and I have the right to respond. I have not posted any comments concerning Kyle in the past and will not in the future. I will make the comment now that Kyle works and trains very hard for his sports. He has wrestled with MLK since the seventh grade and has had much success. Only by hard work and good coaching has he enjoyed this success. My interest is in MLK wrestling and I enjoy watching the team and the sport.

I was not the original poster of this thread; in fact, when this thread was first posted at 7:05 pm, I was working with Paul Bass and the MLK team to clean up after the tournament. It was a long day for all who worked, helped, wrestled and officiated at the tournament. My day started at 6:30 am until home at 9:30 pm. The tournament was well run by Bass, MLK and Paul Hambrick, mat problems in the beginning not withstanding.

I agree with the comments that the original post was not in the right perspective and the subject should not have been presented in the way it was presented. The championship match at 145 was an exciting match. Edafe won with the final of 3-2. I am disappointed that my son did not win as Kyle is also. However, he did not win. Could Chandler have won? Well sure, if he had done this or that. Could Edafe have lost? Sure if he had not done this or that. A well-wrestled match by both wrestlers from two good teams determined by the mat and not by an official. Two very good wrestlers in an exciting match with both going to STATE!

East Lit has a very good Coaching Staff and they have produced very good wrestlers. I have not met the Coaches personally but have heard positive comments about them. It takes time, effort and dedication to build a team and it has been done very well. All of the wrestlers have had to earn their spot on the team and the mat. Nothing has been given to them or the team except opportunity and expectations. Congratulations to Coach Whittaker as Region 7 Coach of the Year. He has worked long and hard for this.

MLK is very lucky to have Paul Bass as a Coach and mentor. I have known Paul for many years and he has done so much for all of the students at MLK and many other schools. He also has worked hard for a quality MLK wrestling team. MLK is sending four wrestlers to the State Tournament this year. Way to go Bass!

I have seen Mr. Garrett officiate many matches. He seems to call a good match and be aware of what is happening on the mat. I am a parent; I am not a referee or a coach so I cannot and will not comment to the negative. If there were calls to be made I believe the calls would have been made during the match. Now is not the time to make any calls. Mr. Garrett??™s son does not wrestle with East Lit currently and so by TSSAA rule there was no reason he should not have called this match. Unfortunately, his association with East Lit as a parent has come into question by the original post. Perhaps TSSAA should review this type of relationship and situation during Tournaments like this and determine the best way to avoid having questions come up after the fact. I do not have the opinion that this match was determined by any missed call or officiating.

CoachF, keep in mind that not all parents react negatively, I would believe that very few do. Your comments in your post are of the same spirit of the person that started this thread. He made assumptions and conclusions and published them in an inappropriate manner and it seems you have also. Your comments are blindly directed at me. You do not know my son or me. I would like to see you focus your opinions and judgments at the original poster instead of drawing false conclusions as to who is responsible for this thread.

I will see some of you at the State Tournament in Chattanooga. For those who I will not see there, wait until next year, the opportunity is coming!

    Go Bam Bam!!!!

    Mr. Chandler,

These message boards can be awful hard on a parent.

As the parent of a former MLK wrestler (Ken Jenkins Class of 2004) I understand the dedication it takes for a student-athlete to be successful on the mat and in the classroom. Congratulations to your son for his accomplishments so far. Good luck at state.

    Darryl Jenkins

P.S. If TSSAA rules allow it and your son would like to pick up some pointers in the off season I'm sure Ken would be happy to work out with him some when he's home from Knoxville and off crutches. Coach Bass has Ken's and our numbers.

  2. You might contact Coach Bass at M.L. King. The wrestlers @ MLK have worked the concessions at Vandy games for years. (MLK has a wrestling room)

You could also contact Coach Simpson over at MBA I'm sure there's some "Old Vanderbilt Money" a little further up West End.(MBA has a REALLY NICE wrestling room)

Both schools are within a mile or so of Vandy's campus.

I don't know for sure but I think TSSAA may have rules that limit your contact with high school wrestlers.

    Good Luck

  3. Whats up kjfan? It has been a while. How is your son? Is he wrestling anywhere?

    Twittycanes,

My son is doing well; He is going to The Air Force Academy, but he won't start back until June of 2005 due to an injury(Long story), so he has a year off to think about things.

I don't know if he will wrestle at the academy. He said he wants to decide once he gets back out there.

I have kept up with your boy's football this year ,he had an outstanding year has he picked a school yet?

  4. My opinion on this matter has nothing to do with Bond Davis or Luke Sanders; I think both wrestlers are outstanding athletes and on any given day either one could have been state champ. My fear is that if this "missed call" by the official is overturned where will this all end? Will every bad call caught on tape be overturned?

Even if Davis is named co-champ what does that resolve? Does it diminish Sanders Championship? Matches are won and lost ALL the time because of missed or bad calls. I do think that it evens out over the long term.

My guess is that Bond Davis has won matches in the past that probably should have gone the other way but because of a missed or bad call he won.

Luke Sanders got a break in a huge match, but even after getting that break Bond Davis had an opportunity to win the state championship on the mat.

Luke Sanders won the match on the mat. I don't think that should be changed.

Where do I start to respond to all that you have said, kjfan?

I should make it clear that I feel that the TSSAA should at this level of wrestling be obligated to do what is necessary to be clear about the results of factual calls.

It would be bad judgment to let things just "even themselves out" as you have said. Tell that to Bond Davis when he applies for a scholarship to a college. I would bet you that second does not get you much in that department and in this case he was factually First. No one is trying to diminish Luke Sanders. He is a great wrestler. This has nothing to do with him as a wrestler. The point here has to do with being sure that in the finals of a state wrestling tournament that accuracy is of the utmost importance.

This should not be happening to Bond Davis or to Luke Sanders. That is the point of the appeal. This is very simple.

    Nance

I feel obligated to respond back to your response

    1. At what level should TSSAA be obligated to respond? After all wrong is wrong regardless of when a bad call is made.

    2. Things evening themselves out have nothing to do with good or bad judgement I was just pointing out that this is just how things are.

    3. On the scholarship issue I will only say Bond had better be cracking the books or have a trust fund even if the TSSAA gives Bond first place; there just aren't that many wrestling scholarships out there.

    4. Please don't take this the wrong way I agree that a bad call was made. My son is a senior this year and I know all to well how bad a kid feels when he has done everything he needs to do to win only to have that win taken away because of a bad call.

    5. Again my opinion has nothing to do with Davis or Sanders. I have come to the conclusion that the best thing that can happen as a result of all this is that the TSSAA will allow some type of review process for next year ,but leave things as they are for this year.

  6. I think at 160 you have to go with either Jenkins or Adcox to face Gibson in the finals because of the way the brackets fell.

Jenkins has only lost four matches over the last 2 years with his only losses to State Medalists. Last year at 152 He lost to Josh Bennett in overtime 5-3 (Ironic that his only loss this year happened at the same place)at the Hillwood Tournament. At the State Tournament last year he lost to Dustin Catlett 6-1 and again to Josh Bennett 4-1.

This year his only loss was in the finals at Hillwood to Josh Johnson, (Jenkins beat Johnson @ Harpeth and in the region 6 finals.) He had the flu and did not wrestle in the finals at McGavock against Jake Graham

From what I've heard Adcox is pretty darn good as well( I've never seen him wrestle)

If Jake Graham or Nate williams were in the bottom half of the bracket and Adcox and Jenkins were in the top, I would say Gibson vs. one of those guys But it will definately be Gibson vs. someone.

  7. I have to agree, AWESOME Job by everyone involved. Matches on time;Good Ref's(Really!) and Great wrestling. The website with all the results and other information is outstanding!

The folks at Whites Creek really put on a first class tournament.

  8. There were five state medalist's last year in region 6

    Ibrahim (Overton) -1st @ 112

    Sanders (FRA) 5th @ 125 (graduated)

    Drinkwine (Overton) 2nd @ 135 (graduated)

    Littlejohn (Mcgavock) 6th @ 152 (quit wrestling)

    Pack Mcgavock) 5th @ 160 (graduated)

Anyone that makes it to the state tournament has achieved something special. I think there are seven kids from this region (just my opinion) that have a pretty good shot of medaling at state.

Devon Martin @103(Maplewood), Ari Ibriham @119(Overton),

Josh Johnson @160(Antioch), Kenny Jenkins @160(MLK), Adam Valentine @171 (Lipscomb), David Vanderloop @171 (Hillsboro), and Taylor Layman @275 (FRA)

I'm sure there are a couple more that I have overlooked but these are guys that I have seen this year that have impressed me the most. I have only seen Overton once this year and really don't know much about them; If Darnell Hayes has continued to progress as he did last year I would say he would be another likely medalist.

  9. I believe MLK and Antioch wrestle next week. Johnson and Jenkins should have one more match before regions.

As far as the state medals go, both guys have the talent to bring home a medal. If Johnson wins the region he will probably get the two seed at state putting him on the other side of the bracket from Gibson giving him a good shot at second. If Jenkins wins and they set the brackets like they did last year Jenkins will be the first #1 seed to see Gibson (see Tim Pack @ 160 last year) making a second place medal pretty much impossible. Both guys are good; but there are a lot of good wrestlers in the weight class, and 2 through 6 are pretty wide open but I think that Gibson is by far the class of the field.

  10. Hamm ;

I think you do a fine job. I have a question about the D-1 Rankings @ 160 this week. In your rankings you show Williams by tech fall over Johnson however the results on the Brentwood website show the score as 11-2. Which score is correct?

  11. 103 Martin Maplewood

Wish I could be more help; maybe someone will help fill in the blanks

  12. Bartlett won the overall team title

Adam Valentine @171 of Lipscomb was O.W. (won by teh fall in the finals)

@ 160 Josh Johnson Of Antioch defeated Kenny Jenkins of MLK 11-8.

@ 152 Chism ? (Bartlett) beat Plumlee of Harpeth (I believe it was a Tech fall)

    That's all I remember.

  13. Hamm The results are in today's Tennessean however they have the wrong results at 152 and 160

152 Coffin (MLK) forfeits(Injury default?) to Clemmons (Glencliff)

    Coffin sick

160 Jenkins (MLK) Forfeits(Injury Default ?) to Graham (Collierville)

    Jenkins sick

I'm not sure how these(152 &160) will be recorded

189 Trevor (Beech) d Ward (Wil Cntrl) 12-0

215 Briscoe (Arab AL.) d Brown (HL) 8-3

    275 Douglas (Map) P Elston (Glen) 5:13

  14. Sounds like the weekest tournament in history!  Hopkinsville will not be there.  They are having their own tournament.  If Collierville is really going to that tournament then they are wasting a weekend.  They will get no better wrestling those schools.

    Snobhater,

Do you just go around making stupid statements?

The Mcgavock Tournament will feature several of the states best wrestlers this weekend. Maplewoods 103 (Devon Martin) is ranked in the top three, Mt.Juliets 130 ( Bill Seaman) is ranked #1 in the state. Josh Johnson from Antioch is ranked 5th @160 Kenny Jenkins from MLK is ranked 2nd @160 Vanderloop from Hillsboro (if he's back from football)was ranked 4th @ 160 but will probably be at 171. Elson from Glencliff is ranked 2nd @heavyweight.

I don't know much about Collierville but Hammond, Speroff, and Cullen are ranked as well.

There won't be any powerhouse teams at McGavock but to say this is a weak tournament is pretty lame.

  15. MT.Juliet, Beech, Antioch, McGavock, Hillsboro, Hillwood, MLK, Maplewood, East Lit., FRA, TSB, Whites Creek, Nashville Christian, Glencliff, Hunter's Lane, Stratford, and Wilson Crntral all show McGavock on their schedule. Hopkinsville Kentucky is usually there as well.
