  1. If my first post was confusing the second couldn't have been. I called jo byrns a storied program which it is. And in reference to the phrase 'ancient history'... I was speaking about those trophies accumulated by Ashland City high under Coach spangler and even before that while my mom (and Pat head) was attending. Yes, rip strattons. If I'm not mistaken rip Klondike?
  2. Well, I'm sure where I was going with it! I was pragmatically, chiding people for talking about a mercy rule pertaining to a storied program. I don't like being misread so if I have confused you about something ask before you try and force feed me something.
  3. The cubs have ancient history as a very competitive team; but, since they opened the new building in '70 it has taken a while for them to get their sea legs. When I was on the team we talked a lot about changing the culture around the program and we had the first winning season in the new building in my junior year ('81). 1969 was my first grade year I remember that last year the high school was located with the elementary school. To a newer cubs fan I guess the loosing ways of the cubs is ancient history and they have no first hand knowledge of it. The cubs have been a playoff team 7 out of the last 10 years... when I was in school we had never been. Enjoy, it is just a game and remember that the future is built on the efforts of the past and present. As far as I can tell this is the best cubs team ever. And... I can remember many times when a mercy rule was talked about in reference to cubs football. I would never speak of it in reference to an up comming opponent. BTW jo byrns competitivness is not ancient history.
  4. I'm not sure that it helps to fan the flames of a fire that has outlived it's usefulness. The game is over and it is just as distracting to look back as it is to look to far ahead. It is time to turn focus from this game in the books to next week vs jo byrns. Besides it is very true we may see this team again this year. Don't over cook the crow you may end up eating later.
  5. I get tired of waiting for monday or tuesday for recaps of fridays game. I suppose that the news stations and news paper have changed their way of coverage and only pay attention to the high profile teams in the larger classifications. Does anyone know of a site that has extensive coverage of the high school games?
  6. 'If ifs and buts were candy and nuts...' is how the saying goes (I don't remember the rest though I'm sure it can be found on the internet). Once again... you say the difference was our qb as opposed to yours... how was he the difference? His running not his passing. Just one drive did not win that game; not ccs passing drive and not the last drive of the game. There is just one factor I did not mention last night; camden didn't shorten the field as effectively as cc did. That is a significant part of the game also. I remember the cubs were running the ball well much of the fourth quarter (not just one drive). You and I are not going to agree on this but we don't have to get snotty because of it. Camden passed better than the cubs did and they ran the ball better than the cubs did... apart from that the cubs won and they did it running the ball. I agree with everything that has been said about the ifs and buts but ifs and buts don't put the points on the board cheathams running did that. Take away the 7 points on that passing drive and what would the score be? Still cheatham ahead.
  7. You are right... however, it does feel good when your accomplishments are appreciated. The cubs do not suffer from the identity crisis they use to. Your points are well made... just strap it on and get to work. You get no points for pissing and moaning.
  8. Here is my gurantee... I would probably feel the same way you do if I were in your shoes. BTAIM, yes they need benches on that opposite side. They even aquired them to install and had them stacked up over there to install them (while I was attending there). I also know that a little later they moved them from that side of the field to under the benches on the opposite side. For all I know they are still there. I think the reticence to install them has something to do with it being clay over on that side and is suceptible to muddying up (possibly erosive also). I agree the cubs are too one dimensional and even said that (no passing game). You couldn't possibly be suggesting that the cubs won by passing? There is only two modes of attack in football (on the ground and through the air). They didn't win by magic they must have won by running the ball. So I guess I have to disagree with you on that point. I gotta hit the hay and I guess we'll have to agree to disagree.
  9. You're right... there is a way to conduct yourself as a fan. I wasn't there I don't know but I do know you mentioned nothing about spit.
  10. If they do it on the field I got no argument. I remember in '98 when Ut won the title and Ou broadcast a dummycast of a ficticious game against them and Ut (projecting themselves the winner of course)... it is just bad form... it tastes unsportsmanlike.
  11. It's called homefield advantage? You went to a football game and didn't expect it to get loud? Maybe everyone should get some sleep and post after having been refreshed?
  12. I was talking about the guranteed 50 points statment on the previous page. They are not going to strap it on again to prove or disprove that onerous point.
  13. They played it on the field... we don't need the ifs and butts.
  14. As far as I can tell neither team has anything to be ashamed of... If I could point to one thing that scares me it would be the turnovers. Lack of a passing game is a concern.
  15. I just got through consulting the records to find that.
  16. I'm not sure if the cubs have ever been 5-0 before... at least not after the school reopened at their present location. I'll have to go back and consult the records.
  17. I wish this announcer would stop saying it is toward the end of the game. He nearly gave me a heartattack.
  18. Both harpeth and sycamore started out as junior high's (including 9th grade) when I was attending ccchs in the early 80`s. Harpeth was changed to a high school a year after that. Anyway... it is remarkable to me that the cubs have improved so much even with the addition of two other schools to divide the available talent pool. Many times there were kids attending that should have been on the team that weren't. I wonder what changed? I wonder what incentives were used to turn it around? Anyway... The team culture has obviously changed there... We were the first team that beech played. Though it was their first game they were favored to win by double digits... that is how little cubs football was respected. We did beat them I think it was 40-0.
  19. I was a bench warmer for the cubs back in `80 & `81 and I can't remember the cubs ever having a better team than this. Two weeks in a row of 500+ yards on the ground? And not against slouchy teams either. I have not been to one of their games since they were getting kicked out of the playoffs by BA on a consistent basis. I think maybe they finally have their classification right.
