TMSAA is not ready to "require" middle schools to ALL follow exact rules. Many counties set rules for their middle schools and expect them to follow those local rules.
Yes it would be nice but just not as easy as it sounds.
I see nothing wrong with schools in a district making their own decisions when it comes to tournaments and seedings. What works well in Campbell/Anderson/Union/Claiborne may not work as well in Morgan and Scott etc.

Some do and some do not. In East Tennessee Area 2 coaches meet each year and set rules to play by. This year each was required to play everyone on etime. Most play twice but only the first meeting counted toward seedings.
Other Areas do it differently.

How are the teams chosen for the TMSAA area tournaments? I know that the teams have to be official members of the TMSAA, but what's the qualification process to make one of the tournaments? Are only conference/league winners selected? Are there at-large teams?
Just a bored and curious sports fan trying to increase his knowledge.
TMSAA assigns member schools to Areas (same as high school districts). Every member school may take part in "Area Tournaments". The top three schools in each Area (in East TN) advance to the sectional tournament. There are three sectionals, East Tennessee, Middle Tennessee, and West Tennessee. Unlike the end of season invitational tournaments (TNT, etc.) You must "win your way" into the sectionals. Most middle schools in Tennessee are member schools now, however there are several who have yet to join.
East Tennessee Sectonal is always in Pigeon Forge, West Tennessee is always in Jackson, while Middle Tennessee is in different different places from year to year.

Coach, you are a class act, and it could not have been said better.!

I can see both sides of it. They may feel that since they follow the same "basic rules" there is no need to join. Of the $300 (cost to join) $200 goes to pay for catastrophic insurance for players. You only have a very few basketball players apply for this but the insurance covers travel to and from as well as playing the game. Aside from safty and peace of mind, it allows for your best to compete for an area wide championship.
It does extend the season, but for only three teams, and then maybe three games for one team, that is if you go to championship game. It does not extend season for everyone.
I did hear it was going to be looked at by Knox. We will see.
-
Actually Knox County Schools are not member schools of TMSAA by their (central office) choice. If they were to join, ($300 membership per school) they would/could be a part of the tournament. As a member of TMSAA state committee we could work with them to form an Area just for those schools so they could retain their "format" of a county tournament....and their top three move on. This is what we did for Sevier County.
Only member schools may take part in TMSAA events....We also have a nice track championship event in spring.

I am not sure why you have received complaints, but I have only been reading the TMSAA tournament info. There must be things other places.
I also will thank you for allowing TMSAA tournament postings as it follows the high school "format" and there is a need for us to follow other districts (Areas) progress. This much easier than the old method.
Sorry, if there were postings that were of "bad taste".
