  1. Highlights: Riley Myer INT leads to TD by Cats, score 7-0 with 7:11 to go 2nd qtr. TD by Isaiah Jones, Nickle PAT good. 14-0, 5:25 2nd. INT by Tommy Kaczocha sets up Dunbar TD from the 5. Score 21-0, 3:28 to go 2nd qtr. Nickle hits 40 yard FG, makes it 24-0 with seconds left in 2nd qtr. Varsity ends playing time at end of first half with score of 24-0. Defense looked very good from start. Made two INT's and caused one fumble which OR recovered. Offense struggled at times. Dunbar had some good runs, but again, no QB stood out. JV played 3rd quarter. HVA scored 1 TD and missed PAT. Freshmen played 4th quarter. OR scored on 21 yard run...not sure which player, as there was no roster. HVA freshmen scored on 34 yard run. PAT no good. Hawks INT on HVA 47 with 4:09 left.

  3. Amen to that! With a young team like we have this year, I don't think they need a bunch of people saying they aren't going to win any games. They already have Jesse Smithey for that.
  4. Although I played in the early 80's and lived here during the 90's, I never met the man until he came back. I am around the program, and I have talked with him several times. I did tell him after he was hired that there were exceptionally high expectations for him with all the hoopla over bringing him back. He said he loved it and wouldn't have it any other way. I do think he loves Oak Ridge football with a passion I've rarely seen. Even for someone who played here, never mind someone who didn't. I think he is a great competitor and likes the expectations. I also think he is comfortable with who he is and I think he wants to win, but at the same time, he doesn't have to prove anything to himself. Just my personal impressions. After having seen him speak several times. It has never come across to me as being about him. It comes across as being about Oak Ridge football, and about the boys. I may be wrong. Maybe he's like this everywhere. I really don't care as long as he accomplishes what he says he wants to here. I just know he has excited the fan base like it hasn't been for years. He seems to do the same thing for players, and I expect he will get things out of the players on the field that a lot of coaches wouldn't.

  6. We do have something to agree on. That was a smart a@@ comment, and there is nothing I would rather be taking about right now than OR football. And you are correct, the proof is in the pudding. All this talk is just talk. We will see over the next year or two if Gaddis can recreate what he did here in the 90's.
  7. It doesn't really matter how many state titles Blade won. He didn't win any here. He didn't beat Maryville while he was here. All of your arguments mean nothing because he is gone and he's not coming back. I like the changes Gaddis has brought to the program already. The players like him, the community is more involved. Looking at Gaddis's past performance and knowing what kind of coach he is, my money says he will surpass anything Blade did here in his four years, and Blade will be but a distant memory and another forgotten coach within a few years from now. While Gaddis did not have the same success after he left here, he left every program better than he found it.. There is no reason to believe he will not do the same he now. The bottom line is, I appreciate what Gaddis did here before, and as a fan of the program, I'll always appreciate that success. But that is in the past. I support him now because he is our coach now. I don't care what Blade did before he came, it had no bearing on his performance at Oak Ridge. I don't care what he does now because he is not our coach anymore. I'm done arguing the topic because it is senseless, and you just want to argue for arguments sake because you have nothing better to do.
  8. I was only comparing each coach to what each did at Oak Ridge. Not meaning to take away from Blade's accomplishments in CA and Hillsboro. Yes, he won two state titles I think, and beat Maryville. No doubt he is a good coach.
  9. Bladerunner, I just don't get your admiration of Blade and your total disdain for Gaddis. Each man furthered the program during their tenure here, but side by side, there is no comparison to what Gaddis did over a longer period of time. Does that mean Gaddis will repeat his success here, not necessarily. Does that mean Blade wouldn't have surpassed Gaddis' record if he had stayed as many years, no. But why you are such a proponent of Blade's while being so dismissive of Gaddis' is beyond me.
  10. Lets compare them on what each man has actually done at Oak Ridge at this point in time. Gaddis is the winningest coach of any Coaches with more than 3 seasons at OR. His percentage is 83.2, and he has more wins at OR than ANY other coach. He had 9 ten win seasons and a State title. Blade is eighth out of ten in winning percentage. He never won a State Championship. He only has one ten win season. If you want to judge each coach on what they have accomplished at Oak Ridge in the past, it's easy to see who has done better.
  11. Oak Ridge rated 13 in Tennessee High School Dynasties based in 2003 - 2012 results. http://www.unapproved website.com/m/article.aspx?articleid=7a7c2309-8e3e-4a53-a35e-79f9094aa38c
  12. I wonder how these rankings determined. http://www.unapproved website.com/m/team/rankings.aspx?gendersport=boys,football&schoolid=c64ec9f5-81fc-4d1a-84d5-20d1c9627fe7&season=fall&teamlevel=59a4c93d-374c-42ea-9b7f-87e1e51f1336
  13. Our play selection early in the playoff game against Maryville was not good. Blade had a tendency to panic and go to the air. When we ran the ball, like we did to open the 3rd quarter, we moved the ball....and kept it out of the hands of their explosive offense. The flip side of that is we had too many guys going both ways, and ran out of steam.
  14. Number 22 on USA Today Top 25 in Tennessee. http://www.usatodayhss.com/rankings/super-25-football-2013?state=TN
  15. You got that exactly right. Blade brought back discipline and a hard work ethic. He had no appreciation for tradition,, and was not interested in reaching out to the community. He may have been exactly the right guy for his point in time. Gaddis is exactly the right guy for this point in time.

  17. Have you suffered a recent severe blow to the head?
  18. I just noticed that South Doyle had 8 starters returning on offense. Although they did get away from us a few times, we kept them bottled up for most of the scrimmage. At least one of their scores came when we did not have all of the first team in, and on the other two came when some people were out of position. Coaching can address that. Bottom line, we will just have to wait and see. Just don't go sitting in your car in the garage with the engine running just yet.
  19. If we win the first 5 games, will some of you still be predicting we will lose the last 5:)
  20. Boston, Clement, and Grabenstein are returning starters on the O line, and I think Alvarez got quite a bit of playing time last year as well. They will be carrying the load while the rest of the offense catches up, experience wise. Three of those four will probably also go both ways at DE and maybe even nose tackle until Chapman is eligible for the forth game.
  21. Agree. I believe we have a lot of good players, and a good coaching staff. They will struggle at first but get better each week. I really don't expect anyone to destroy us.
  22. The problem isn't we don't have a QB, it's that we have six QB's, all of which are pretty good. We also have several good, fast RB's. You've seen one scrimmage and a jamboree and your ready to fast forward to 2015. It's time to take a deep breath. We're going to be fine. Our lines on both sides of the ball are going to be very good.
  23. Maybe, maybe not. I think you underestimate our speed. I don't think Central is all that, so not sure how much you can tell from the jamboree. How did HVA look against Powell?
  24. Yeah, I was really disappointed in that. They're basically saying we're going to get beat by Farragut, McMinn County, Powell, Central, and AC. While we could potentially get beat by any of them, the probability of getting beat by more than a couple is not likely given our talent and coaching staff. I question how much Jesse Smithey really finds out about those teams.
