  1. WrestlingGod,

You are aware that TN teams can compete in those tournaments if they get the invitation correct?  The only limitations for TN teams comes in the form # of dates / tournaments and one major travel restriction.  That travel restriction limits each TN team to one trip outside of the state borders that is in excess of a certain amount of miles round-trip.  I want to say it was 300 miles one-way but I can't remember now off the top of my head as it has been a while since I had to dig into that rule.  Heck, the TSSAA has even let teams use a straight line as the crow flies measurement over mileage on roads in the past.

What that ultimately means is that any TN team with the a)wrestlers to get themselves invites and b)funds to make the trips, can do so.  However, they can only do one such trip which probably is plenty for most of TN.

Just wanted you to be aware that the opportunity is there.

The problem with the Tennessee rule is that you must compete out of state to qualify for the big events .In other words, Tennessee offers no qualifying events for high school or jr. high kids. Not only that but if you wrestle varsity (even if there is no match that week) you may not compete for a non tssaa event. Jr. varsity can do whatever but if they wrestle aau or usa or whatever, They are ineligible for the next  scheduled varsity  match. It would take 2 events A) Qualifier B) Invitational to become eligible and get the invite. I have always said TN has to loosen it up with travel restrictions.

  2. Weight/weigh-in sheet given at weigh-ins is the final adjustment for the coach. Whatever you put  a kid down to wrestle before weigh-ins is what they wrestle. If you have an injury you may substitute a young man. If any wrestler is substituted for at any time the starting wrestler is ineligible the remainder of the day.So if I give you 120 john at weigh ins. 120 john gets hurt. I can forfeit and give up 6 or I can replace john with a wrestler not on my official starters list. Weigh in sheets must be turned in prior to weighing in. Not during. If a wrestler misses weight he is done just like at the state. He may not wrestle up a weight class. If a coach says he wrote it down wrong.......sorry shoulda double checked it. Wrestler misses weight sorry bro you let your team down, but made the 2nd string guy happy. If at a dual tournament and you forfeit any match that match must remain a forfeit all day. This encourages wrestling not a dag nabbit chess match. The coaching is done at practice and talking kids through moves during a match. Not on the score sheet. So sick of bump ups, forfeits, and in general not wrestling the good matches. Line them up and wrestle. The coaching will show and the wrestlers can get their head right for that big match. The way it is now encourages forfeits and bumping.............And that really sucks when everyone is seeing that big match up and it doesn't happen.

  3. I'm use to seeing 2800 or more entries? ?? What's the reasons?

Don't know. We went for the first time last year, It was a tough tournament and well run. Maybe a big camp or a big tournament somewhere. Even the Iowa team trip didn't have the teams from Pennsylvania and Ohio. Don't get me wrong, It was still tough.     Maybe people are saving for summer camps or....... who knows just guessing. Just a bummer to see  the low numbers at theses well run tournaments.

  4. Western do you know why the sophomores are beating sophomores and freshman in the state finals ?  I believe it's because they knocked all the juniors or seniors out in the quarters and the semi's. The young aau wrestlers are finally reaching our high school levels and standing out. If you were there and actually saw the wrestling that went on in Iowa, you would realize what a great accomplishment this was. I would put 1 or two placing in the super 32 out of each weight class. This wasn't your everyday ragtag tournament. There was actually some real talent there. Quit Trolling!!!!!

  5. What I thought was great was that , we drive all the way to Iowa, compete against all those teams, The only loss for Zack was against Brock from team TN. Brock is awesome. What about Landers pulling it out against Fuller. I believe a couple of the 7-1 kids only lost to TN kids. I could be wrong on that so don't kill me if I am. Great hard wrestling this weekend from all. Iowa, Tennessee, Montana, a step above the others. Maybe some respect coming soon for our kids. Heard one mom from another state talking loudly about us backwoods rock carrying people from TN. She needs to visit TN then go back to Iowa and figure out who is really backwoods two tooth having Iowa !!$$#%$%!!!!!!!!!!

  6. There are usually a ton of TN wrestlers that attend this event. It would be hard to get all of them to list here. My son is out of the age range now. There is usually very good talent there, though.  Most of your top talent from the aau Tn clubs usually go. I have seen in the past kids from OH, FL, KY, AL, IL, PA, AR, GA, IN, MI, NC, SC,  and I am probably missing a few. Like I said it's been a couple of years since we went. I only remember 1 year to where the number of kids there wasn't what I expected. The tournament can run into the late hours. Other than that, it was great. The arena was great, parents upstairs, wrestlers and coaches downstairs. We always told our kid win or lose keep your head up, If you lose any then we are going to Gatlinburg, to ride go-carts. If you place you can pick dinner tonight. Turn it into a mini vacation for him/her. They will want to return over  and over and over. In short ( normally  well run, good talent pool, good venue and fun tournament ) I think we went 5-6 times. They try to separate the states the best they can. Good luck and have fun, I believe you and the family will. Don't eat at that goldan corral up there it is horrible.

  7. Yes, The officials did the right thing. It sucks bad but still right decision. The parents told me it wasn't the normal doctor at the same  medical practice. The parents didn't look at the letter. This was a mistake on their behalf. Thinking it was the same as the 100's before. Everyone that knows the kid knows what the condition is and always has been. Just hate for someone to tell me I don't know what i'm talking about. I get enough of that at home with the wife don't need it here too.    Sooooooooo with that being said.......way to go for our district, Wilson Central 1st, Beech 2nd, Mt. Juliet 3rd. Great wrestling within the entire region. Having 2 of the top 4 team in the state AAA kinda makes it hard to get any love for us bears as a team. It's  Kinda like being the 2nd string wrestler on a team that if you were anywhere else you would start.

  8. I suggest before posting any information you have the facts. The skin form was not for psoriasis, but for a highly contagious skin infection that had not met the required treatment period set forth by the NFH

I do know what i'm talking about. They went to the doctor (not their normal one) He was out for some reason. The other doctor wrote on the form possible psoriasis or infantigo. He has had the forms his whole wrestling career. If they would have brought the other forms all saying the same thing he would have been fine to wrestle wrapped as he always does. I cant remember ever seeing the kid not wrestle wrapped. The parents didn't read the form because it is something they have dealt with weekly and has become redundant. That was a mistake. Always read the form. The forms expire monthly or bi-monthly. I got it from the source. What was yours, a kid, a coach, a parent. How would you know? Why don't you ask the parents as I did. They were sitting 2 feet from me. I was 10 feet from the meeting.

  9. What happened to Mj 145, missing from bracket?

He has (getting ready to kill this) psoriasis. Very sad the kid has wrestled since he was a kid. I had watery eyes when I watched the officials override doctors note. Open sores they said look to much like infantigo. He has wrestled wrapped for many years and come his senior year regionals they say no. It was rough.

  10. RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR....................Not inspirational at all the coach did nothing at all wrong. She lost the bet and didn't tell him mom said no to it.  OMG  This lady just needs some money. I havn't been posting much this year but that one got me. A part of her body gone pffft, IT'S HAIR. HOLY!  @$$#@%$#^%$^$%&&^% BATMAN. That one got me. The mom looks like she needs to be hunted down by "DOG" the bounty hunter anyway. She is from Hawaii. lol

  11. Good quality rankings do help! IMO, one of the major problems with high school wrestling is the lack of premium dual matches. You don't have conference dual championships with packed gymnasiums anymore and this is a result of no local community schools in the large metropolitan areas. When was the last time you attended a dual match that did the following:

    1. Started at 7:00pm

    2. had the high school band playing before the match

    3. allowed the cheerleaders the opportunity to have a short pep rally before the match

    4. wrestle the match under a mat lamp

    5. introduce the wrestlers with their accomplishments before the match

    6. take a 10 minute intermission at the halfway point

    7. have a full concession stand open

IMO, it seems that if you want fans to attend the matches you must create an atmosphere where the students, parents, friends, etc... want to show up

The Father Ryan tournament had all of that. It really got the finals hyped up. Announced parents, accomplishments, dance/cheer squad before it started, play by play, under mat light. Its on ryans website follow link on coach t to watch. It was done the way I remember from back in the day, when we all walked barefoot in 12 inches of snow to get to school.  lol   No band though, but they did play music through the speakers. Nice awards ceremony. They made everyone wait till the end for medals which I liked. It kept the focus on the matches. Not on the medal production.

  12. Mt. Juliet went up with 9 wrestlers and placed 3rd as a team . I will say though if you were from TN. , you got no love at all. They let to many wrestlers out of moves with potential danger. If they even moaned they called potential danger. I will say no TN wrestler was crying out for a let up. Some of the matches looked like kids were taught to moan or yell if on their back, to be let up. This had nothing to do with any M.J matches. This was just something a bunch of us were noticing from the stands in a lot of different matches and I'm talking  A BUNCH of them. We were actually cracking jokes about it because there was some award winning acting. There were some great matches. I believe it was Calloway county, that won it by a landslide. Henry 1st, Wilkins 1st, Edens 2nd, Helm 3rd ,O'Brian 4th, Benson 5th, Horner 3rd, Charest 4th (5 match rule forfeit) Perkins dnp.  There were way to many 3/4  and 5/6 place matches that were 5 match rule. A lot were double forfeit's. I'de say at least half of them were not wrestled.

  13. Stalling should be called more heavily across the board, not just if the kids are used to it. Up the action.

I agree some refs let a kid obviously stall for a whole match.  Others call it quick. Call the stalling quick make the kids wrestle. Not lay on the ground and stall out. Ive watched matches that took 3-4 times the norm because anytime a kid got caught in a move they go out of the circle. Make them wrestle and wrestle hard.

  14. Hendersonville was not there coach. O you probably knew that.

M.J. got 4th.  126 match got best match. It was a brutal tournament lots of blood. Lots of minor injuries , pulled shoulders , dislocated fingers, tons of busted noses, and busted eyes. poor ole' Shawn Sesnan looked like a unicorn for his finals match. head butt between the eyes. I bet it stood out 3/4 to an inch. Edens shoulder in semi's and his thumb. He said he couldn't grip anything at all to do any moves. Zack had his shoulder messed up bad in semi's , stood up in a double chicken wing wasn't stopped quick enough, ref was right there, just happened too fast.  Great matches throughout the day to watch. some very hard matches won and lost from all.  The only thing I didn't like was they didn't cross the brackets after you lost one. Some kids would lose a match to a kid Friday then Saturday wrestle the same kid 1st match of the consolation rounds. So you would get put out by one wrestler not having a chance to wrestle anyone else. Other than that as usual Father Ryan ran a great tournament with (thank the lord) no big injuries. They really hyped up the finals emphasizing the finalist and the accomplishment
