According to TSSAA you have to be returning medalist team as well as a region and sectional champ. So technically the only team that should be seeded is Cleveland. Because neither Halls or DB are sectional champs because they didn’t wrestle.

we are commenting on this from different places, while you are understandably not real thrilled with how the brackets ended up this year I am attempting to explain the potential issues with Jeff's suggestion, or at least my opinion  of the potential issues that could also cause/create.

Here is the deal. The coaches can make suggestions to have in state rules changed. Type them up and present them at the coaches meeting.

suggest that tssaa change to year by year seeding for the dual championship.

I would rather see it in writing up front.. like they do with football bracket or basketball bracket. ex. section 1 champ goes on this line. section 2 champ goes on this line. section 3 runner up goes on this line. that will stop all the debate as everyone will know where they fall.

There are no section champs  just section winners as it stands today .  You would first have to determine section champs , after you did that then the Draws for which Section Champ wrestles another section runner up would need to be random which would still provide a very real possibility for the two best teams being on the same side , they would wrestle each other in the Semis vs the 1st round, potentially.

So why is DB ranked behind Nolensville when DB beat Nolensville 44-27?

Pin Tn is not accurate or reliable. I never look at it. Rank Wrestler is more dependable.

If you never look at it then how did you know DB was ranked behind Nolensville in the Pin TN Rankings? I am Sure if Hamm was paid like Rank Wrestler then maybe he could allocate more time to improve the "Accuracy and reliability " that you seek. I am Fairly certain Rank Wrestler is a $9 or $10  per month subscription isn't it? I personally enjoying seeing Rankings from both  Sources . Rank Wrestler is strictly Data Driven from Trackwrestling Results if not mistaken, its nice sometimes to get some subjective Rankings which is what PinTN provides.

    Beware.  Rant ahead.

A few things.  The board of control.  Most of the members have no skin in the game for wrestling.  While several of them are from schools that technically have wrestling programs, Bradley and Warren County are really the only schools who are invested in wrestling year in and year out.  (no offense to Hamblen or CR or those who are trying)

    Morristown-Hamblen High School West
    Memphis Central High School
    Evangelical Christian School
    Donelson Christian Academy
    Webb School of Knoxville
    Cane Ridge High School
    Milan High School
    Bradley Central High School
    Warren Co. Schools (Director)
    Loretto High School
    Trinity Christian Academy
    Fulton High School

Who are the "wrestling schools" in that list?

So when Mark Reeves or anyone else makes a suggestion regarding wrestling, they are almost always going to go a long with what his proposals are.  They dont know any better.  "A sixteen man bracket over three days?  Sure, sounds good to us."  Obviously, the board of control does not understand the sport of wrestling.

The 16 man bracket for AA is a load of crap too.  It does not hurt to have a 32 man bracket for the large schools.  For you purists out there who cry about only the best making it to state, the best kids are going to be there regardless.  Why shut out a bunch of kids who are on the fringe of being the best?  It doesnt hurt the tournament for them to be there and get put out on the first day. Now, a lot of schools will no longer have a state qualifier.

"Oh tell them to work harder."  No.  That doesn't cut it.  If you really care about wrestling, you would want to give every kid the chance to learn and appreciate what wrestling offers... regardless if they have a mediocre coach, or are in a small town, or have administration that isnt supportive.  More kids need to "make it to state".

A couple of years ago, at the state tournament, there were a lot of schools who only had one kid,  Teams like Kingsbury, South Doyle, Karns, Hillsboro.  When is the next time you are gonna see one of those kids at state?  Its gonna be a cold day in heck.....  I'm sure that will be good for recruiting wrestlers at those schools.  "Our last state qualifier was 5 years ago."  "Yeah Coach, no thanks."

And from another angle, there are a lot more kids in AA schools than A schools, but the same number make it to state?

According to the TSSAA website, AA has 126,773 students.  Single A has only 60,735.  Double the numbers, but the same size bracket for the state tournament?  Was someone worried that the A schools were going to be mad?

Girls - - I want the girls, but I have been told that the boy's bracket might have been cut to stay in line with what is offered for girls.  I would think that if the girls had the numbers that the boys had, it would make sense to have a 32 man bracket for them as well.

Sub-State - No reason for it.  I have yet to hear what was broken about our old system.

Bottom line, as I have said many times, the more kids wrestling in the championship event, the better off wrestling will be in Tennessee.  We need to see more schools sending their teams to the state tournament with police escorts.  We need to see more billboards congratulating wrestlers making it to state.  We need to see more kids going back home and telling their friends about how they finally made it to state.  We need more mons and dads posting their kids picture on Facebook.  We dont need less of any of those things.

you and I finally agree on something!  Good rant and very well  stated.

Why wouldnt they wrestle this weekend?

I have absolutely no knowledge or information that they wouldn't but I know Terrell was out at Bradley due to an Injury and they way the Covid/Flu  stuff seems to be ramping up again and hitting Teams I was just clarifying that's who I liked assuming that they were going;   That in no way was meant to be a back handed  comment indicating they wouldn't wrestle.

Don't be shocked if Mater Dei wins at 106 & 113.  They may not be great but they are solid wrestlers.

I myself like Terrell or Uhorochuk at 113, I would say both of those guys are better than Solid based on what I have seen. That is assuming they are wrestling this weekend

  7. My personal opinion is that we seem to be undervaluing the significance of what being a state qualifier may mean to some kids, that is the goal  in many instances and I think that's just fine and keeps them involved in the sport. I  am on my 3rd son wrestling and I can say without hesitation that  I would be as equally or more excited about my youngest son qualifying for the State Tournament as my older son winning it.  They are different kids with different skill levels and different goals , that's perfectly ok. I don't think the ask is to water down the Tournament to the point where a State Champ feels like it was not an accomplishment but what would it hurt to keep some of the low hanging fruit in play  for those kids trying to just qualify  for the tournament as the  goal, doesn't keeping more kids engaged ultimately grow the sport? I think the 32 man Bracket did just that IMO.

It doesn't do anything, nor does having 23 divisions and everybody qualify. In order to compete with these teams we have to see them. And TSSAA doesn't allow it. They should be able to travel to these in season national tournaments to wrestle these other kids. That's how we'll get better and more recognition as a state.

Getting rid of the three divisions is just my personal opinion.

What is it exactly that the TSSAA will not allow?

This is where I still have issue with Cody not getting the OW.  If you take Cody out of the Tournament, I think we would all agree that 45 was the 2nd toughest weight class behind 32.  Braxton ended up not placing in this bracket so that shows you how tough this weight was. If you add in Cody, then 45 was the toughest overall weight class at state.

Cody was the only state champ that had to defeat 3 returning medalist to win his title.  Again, he was the only State champ in the tournament to beat 3 returning medalist.  And, he was the only person to pin his way through the tournament.

I can see the argument that Bradford should have gotten it.  He did have to beat two returning state medalist in the 2nd toughest weight.  But, Bradford had two close decisions.

Tre I still don’t see. Tre didn’t beat a single returning state medalist and he didn’t pin his way through his bracket at a weight that objectively wouldn’t even be considered one of the top 8 toughest weights this year.

I still fail to see how what Cody accomplished wasn’t the most impressive performance at the tournament.  He PINNED everyone, he was the only Champ to beat 3 returning state medalist, and he did it in the toughest weight class at state this year.

His only negative was that he is so much better than everyone else at his weight he made it look to easy which ended up taking away from how impressive what he accomplished was.

Not Completely accurate . Now I do preface this by saying I don't think his anything to do with the MOW outcome nor should it have but Little Bradford did beat 3 returning medalist thus rendering your statement about that  inaccurate. Yes it is splitting hairs but....

Mercante, Gobel and Ellison are the three for what its worth .

Technically I think Fowler should have gotten it. Underdog in the finals to avenge earlier season losses to Terrell to win it all. Doesn’t get any better than that.

I agree , my pick was Fowler also!

The link was private and not shared with anybody but coaches for the Go Fans, you couldn't search it up.

The tickets sold last Friday was for extra family members, ADs, bus drivers and other people related to the team. Could normal people get them? Sure, but that was not the intent of the TSSAA.

The TSSAA had a coaches meeting about tickets and told us everything we needed to know and sent the codes out as the meeting was going on. If you didnt get your code it was your coaches fault!!

You are 100% correct it is the coaches fault , however that doesn't mean that  as a wrestling community  we can't show a little compassion for our fellow parent's and assist them with scrounging up a ticket  here and there . I know if the roles were reversed and I wasn't able to get tickets because of an error on my coaches part I would be very appreciative of anyone that was willing to help me out.  I do understand that these are unique circumstances and tickets are extremely hard to come by but I would encourage anyone able to assist do so .
