  1. This is comical...Yelling at the opposing pitcher is bush league??? If so then every team around west Tennessee is bush...I guess Bobby Cox is pretty bush league as well, because he yelled at the umpire all the time. And what kind of trash are they spewing from the dugout?

I really enjoy watching Houston play the game...they play hard while also having tons of fun. Houston, Bartlett, Collierville, Arlington, CBHS all "yell" at the opposing pitcher and are loud in the dugout. I guess everyone in the west in bush league.

Talking trash at the opposing pitcher is bush league, and if you don't think so it's probably because you're from that school. You don't see a team like Farragut doing that, and they have 9 state titles to back it up.

  2. I saw Oakland and Riverdale do it. I did not see what was so wrong with it? Just a little fun the kids were having. No danger or anything to it so what's wrong with it?

I'm SO surprised that Riverdale participated in this... Oh wait. Talk about the most bush league team in the state, although Houston annually gives them a run for their money.

  3. Siegel Middle School has several kids who have a chance to be special in high school if they keep developing. All are excellent two way players and already have size to play at the varsity level in high school. If these kids work hard and stay together, Siegel HS could be a baseball powerhouse I a few years.

  4. Here's a little perspective on little league baseball compared to real baseball. My brother's 13u summer team, which is made up of kids only from his TN middle school, traveled to Myrtle Beach this summer and played the Wheeling Braves, who were in the LLWS last year. The middle school team won 19-1. The fact that ESPN gives so much airtime to this joke of a sport they try to pass as "baseball" is embarrassing. Just my two cents.

  5.

    Quotes ...... Cool ....... I have a couple.

"Incompetent umpires should not be in a state tournament." - Me

"Anyone who thinks the TSSAA cares about anything other than turning a profit has not watched very much Tennessee high school sports" - Me

Again ....... I'm really not making excuses for Tullahoma. I think you are completely missing the point here. They lost, Farragut & Dyer County won and moved on. Congratulations to them. I think we are going to have to agree to disagree on this one.

I believe his problem is your insinuating that Tullahoma would've beaten Farragut had the umpires been "good umpires".

  6. Tullahoma just needs to tip their cap and start preparing for how they will improve next year. Whining to the media and anyone else who will listen looks bad on the whole program, which is unfortunate because it was a hard flight game and the best team came out on top.

  7. No dog in this hunt, but if it landed on line of course it's fair.

Sorry I should've clarified earlier. I assumed you were a Tullahoma fan, and it seemed that was their main problem with the call, that it appeared to them that it crossed the bag in foul territory.

  8. I agree it heckling shouldn't happen, but I have seen it at every level. Some high schools are worse than others. I personally know a pitcher in this area that was heckled something awful by two high schools in Knox County. I think it is terrible, especially at the high school level, but I don't know what could be done about it. Many high school athletes work very hard at their sport and make great sacrifices to represent their school and they should be treated with respect by the opposing team. Maybe AD's could attend the games and address it with the student body.

I completely agree if the heckling is done with malicious intent or if there are curse words being used. However, the kids in question yesterday (FHS's soccer team) did none of that. There's worse heckling in high school basketball by far, and there's nothing done about it.

  9. So your saying if the ball crosses third base in the air and lands in foul territory down the left field line it is fair? What league have you been playing ...that is foul all day long. Now on the ground and crosses third base is a different story.

The ball crossed the bag in the air, landed about 2 feet behind the bag, and landed on the line. Not sure where the argument is. I was sitting up in the high seats, and clearly saw the ball on the line. You don't have to agree and you can blame the umpires for your loss, but the fact is Tullahoma managed to get only 4 infield singles and one bloop-flare out of the infield off Serrano. He was just better than Sheffield yesterday and Farragut came through with clutch hits. Umpires didn't effect outcome of game.

  10. Heckling is part of the game? What part? If so, do quality teams actually practice it? Are students invited to practice to organize the heckling? If it really is a part of it, it is an ugly part like intentionally throwing at a batter. Except you get ejected for that if the umpire judges it to be intentional. IMO - fans should be ejected for heckling if in the umpire's judgment it is affecting the game. Heckling from the bleachers is bush league whether it's little league or high school. I was told long ago that if fans leave the game talking about something done by someone other than the players on the field, then something happened that shouldn't have. It sounds like that was the case here.

All I'm saying is if you can't handle a few 17-18 year old saying "Hey Justin", and you handle it the way Sheffield did, then how do you expect to pitch in front of thousands yelling and screaming obscenities at you? Corbin isn't going to allow the type of stuff he did yesterday, so hopefully he learns to reign it in and show some class. Yes he's only a junior in high school, but he's also an elite prospect committed to a premier college program, I just think it's time to grow up a little.

  11. Very unimpressed by Sheffield's attitude today. Of course Farragut's students are going to heckle him, and they weren't saying anything derogitory or obscene. What does Sheffield do? Looked over at them and grabbed his genitals on multiple occasions, and also gave them the bird. That's much more bush league than anything the Farragut kids were doing. Just surprised by the lack of class shown by many of Tullahoma's fans, players, and coaches to be honest. Guess you guys do things differently in Mid TN.

  12. It's where the ball crosses not where it lands. The ball was fair. Serrano was better than Sheffield today and Farragut came up with timely hits, that's why they won. Show a little class and quit blaming the umpires for your team's shortcomings.
