  1. Looks like a real solid team. Not sure what kind of noise they will make in Tulsa. Not surprised to see Broyles at 70 either. He was cutting a ton of weight in season according to the region 1 thread. Sammy Evans will do well along with Garrison and Navarro. Solid team but I just dont see a team trophy here. Im not down playing their talents. The team is stacked from top to bottom but outside of TN is a whole new story. Im also big on Cyree I believe he will wake a few people up throughout the tournament. Very disappointed Solomon wont be on the team. One of my favorites to watch.

  2. You can wrestle with a torn labrum. I did it for a year and a half and next 4 years after. The performance should not be effected that much. It also had to do with cutting lots of weight (too much). The labrum is the cartilage between the head of the humerus and part of the shoulder blade with the rest of the body. If he had little to no cartilage then he would have very little chance of full recovery because there would be nothing to attach to the bone (with anchors) and would have a lot less mobility. I would also want to see his MRI because that would be intresting to see. His recovery to wrestle again after surgery would be at least a year with a tear that big. He would at least have to redshirt one year. Just my thoughts.

He should have been at 160 if you ask me but its over now. To be honest he looked very good at the brawl in the hall back in January and stuck someone who majored Johnson. He ended up losing something like 8-6 in the finals. Either way he didn't look the same at regions by any means. Maybe the weight cut did end up getting to him but he was definitely hurting at regions.
  3. Griffyn told me he tore his labarum. Said the doctor told him its the worst hes seen. He also said he has lilttle to no cartilage left between his shoulder and rotator cuff. No surgery scheduled as of yet, but it will happen in the very near future.

As for college I know he wants to wrestle after HS but after the last few weeks hes a little disappointed with the way everyhing played out and is kind of burned out.

He wrestled through the region and state tournaments with that? Wow. That explains his performance at both. Maybe somewhere like mtsu will pick him up!
  4. Agree with all the upsets noted above... To me it was Broyles defeat...

This year it seems upsets were the norm... Expectations going into the tournament were upended by the action that unfolded on the mat... Very good competition, drama (good kind) and I for one felt like it was worth the price of admission!

Injury and weight cut got the best of him if you ask me. Was told he looked very very tough at Jeff CO's practice tonight.
  5. i think it is a tough draw. But he's a tough kid so I don't think he will have a hard time getting to he medal rounds

After writing the 52 bracket out and making predictions. I could for sure see Broyles taking 3-6 but beating Hamilton is out of the question.

  6. On a scale of 1-5:

    132- Finals: 4.5, 3-6: 3.5

138- Finals: 3, 3-6: 5 (torn between Ezra and Bam Bam)

    145- Finals: 2.5, 3-6: 4 (Bowen is a stretch)

    152- Finals: 5, 3-6: 4

    160- Finals: 5, 3-6: 4.5

170- Finals: 3, 3-6: 5 (Linton, Hammons, and Webster will be fun to watch. Any of those 3 could make finals)

I see. I was a little curious about your 52 picks. Broyles is tough but he's got a terrible draw.

There's my picks. Feel free to voice your opinions.

How confident are you in these picks?
  8. Anyone else want to voice their opinions on indvidual regions? I'd like to see who everyone has in the finals and maybe even winning. Beech vs DB in the first round at state will be good. Begley vs King will be great at 160.

  9. I wouldn't say 120 is clear cut. Davis beat Blanco and Story beat Davis. Seems like both Blanco and Davis have been around for a long time or is it just me? Oh well. Don't count Story out.

Pretty sure Hux beat Hurley last year so his resume isn't without any big wins. Heard he was sick or something for part of the season.

I would not count Jeffers out against Broyles. Could be a good match. Broyles just needs to get over that hump and win on the big stage. Good kid and hope he does.

I like Nguyen against English. One because I have been able to see him improve thru the offseason tournaments and hard work in the room with King Greene and that's a lot of weight he is cutting and never know the effect. English is a tough wrestler and no disrespect but still a big weight cut. Again not saying who wins just that I think it's a better match than some will expect.

Picked Blanco strictly off of experience here. I was definitely impressed with Hux last year not so much this year. May be the sickness is why. Definitely can't count Jeffers out against anyone just don't see him being able to beat Broyles. It'll be a decent match. Remember Broyles has wrestled Begley the past 2 seasons in the finals. Last year he went up to 60 simply for the challenge. IMO wasn't his best move. Nguyen is good but English is just too much of an athlete for him. They are technically equal.
  10. No, no Johnson for me. But the only common threat I can see is Palmer Begley pinned Johnson in a minute and Broyles in 3 1/2 minutes. About it. I'm sure whoever is opposite Jeffers has a chance to reach the finals.

Well if they drop 182 is clearer and so is 220.

I said I thought Townsend would be in the finals not win. Who is your hwt finals choice?

Yother may have the best motor in region 1. I like the way the kid comes hard.

Maybe your choices should be posted so it's clear your thoughts on top kids.

I wasn't thinking and forgot about Broyles at 52 I keep thinking he graduated for some reason. I watched Jeffers at region duals and I really don't see him beating Broyles. Broyles will probably get the 1 seed at 52.

    106-Nelson

    113-Bynum

    120-Blanco

    126-Hux still not impressed

    132-Hurley

    138-Pendley/Carpentre

    145-Henley

    152-Broyles

    160-Begley

    170-Dean

    182-English

    195-Bagley

    220-Hagerman

    285-Ruth/Townsend

My picks to win all should be pretty cut and dry not sure on 138 and 285.

  11. Below would be my favorites to reach the finals:

    106 - Nelson (TN) / Williams (SH)

    113 - Burns (JC) / Bynum (DC)

120 - Story (SH) / Davis (DB) / Blanco (JC)

    126 - Hux (JC) / Yother (SH)

    132 - Hurley (TN) / Armstrong (Vol)

    138 - Pendley (TN) / Charpenter (Vol)

    145 - Henley (TN) / James (SH)

    152 - Jeffers (DB) / Broyles (MW)

160 - Begley (DB) / Jessee (SH) / Spangler (TN)

    170 - Dean (DB) / Rolston (SH)

182 - Nguyen (SH) / shoot out between TN/DB/Vol wrestler

    195 - Bagley (SH) / English (JC)

220 - Hagerman (TN) / Latham (JC) / Foster (DB)

    285 - Ruth (DB) / Townsend (JC)

I'm sure I missed one or two but what I see as region front runners.

No Johnson from THS in the finals at 152 with Jeffers? Heard English dropped and so did Latham. Ruth should beat Townsend soundly. I'm personally not impressed with Hux or Yother at 126.
  12. No one should say 138 has a shoe in champion. You are absolutely correct. My posts have nothing to do with defending Jakes comment. I have always made it a habit to not pick champions just finalist favorites. Too many variables in wrestling.

who are your favorites to win exactly baller? I may have been a little over board saying Carpentre should be the region champ. Weight is a toss up to me.
  13. Almost everyone will be seeded since there will only be 8 man brackets. I didn't say Pendley is a lock. Jeffers from DB got beat by 8 and he looks like the 3 seed. People can hang with with but beating him is a different story. Like I said earlier in this thread this is high school wrestling and anyone can beat anyone. There was a guy from Oklahoma in the finals in 2000 that was winning 15-1 and gets rolled to his back and pinned. Just let the wrestler do the talking on the mat and your fine.

How will there be 8 man brackets with 10 teams in the region?
  14. Ok that makes more sense I don't know anything about these two wrestling. I know Pendley, but not Carpentrer. Even if they haven't wrestled Pendley will have the number one seed based on criteria.

Pendley is a fine wrestler. I was simply stating this title is not as much of a lock as everyone thinks. This weight is loaded. 2x state qualifier Landon Porter won't be seeded according to results.
  15. Jake i would bet the farm you are wrong on that. No disrespect to Volunteers 138lbs wrestler.

You guys obviously didn't see Carpentre beat Josh Vance from Greenville 7-3. This kid is a hammer.
