Westmoreland had a decision to make. Play the SC Owls who have never won a State Title. Or play the SC Tigers who have won two State Titles. It's obvious that we chose the dominant SC program. We like to play the best.

This just in. We had rather get spanked in a Scrimmage than to get killed the first game of the year. Tornadoe Warning in effect for Smith County until after Week 0. Take shelter and don't come out until Week 0 passes.

Man I get fired up this time of year. Today on my route, every time I saw a Mailbox, it reminded me of a Blocking Dummy, I saw a bunch a Mail boxes lined up together at a Trailer Park. All I could vision was a Blocking Sled. Every time I saw a Flag raised. It reminded me of all the Flags that ended my Senior season at Meigs County.

I was pretty pleased with what I saw tonight at DCA. I saw some flashes of some good things to come. Beautiful field at DCA and an impressive Football Team. DCA will have a good year. Westmoreland showed some promise. The Offensive line could use some work. I was impressed on how our Center handled that 340 Nose guard. LOL. Brandon Green made a key interception. Graves connected with Evans on a beautiful throw. Our Fullback ran the ball pretty well. It was also good to see a few people from my Mail Route on the DCA side. I can't wait for Thursday night food at the house and Football on Friday night. Good Luck Guys. Make us proud.

I was downtown eating Supper tonight at Cathy's when I overheard Mayor Carter at the round table say the word Hike about 10 times in 3 minutes. I could hardly eat I was so fired up. I said to myself, Mayor Mike is fired up about this Football Season. Man was I let down, when I realized he was talking about a Tax Hike. Figures. Oh well I guess the City Trucks have some body damage that needs repairing. That's life here in the Big City. I guess the next thing he will want to do is take rocks from the ROCK PILE better known as Eagle Stadium to fix our City Streets. Oh well, we (City) may be broke but we know how to give a hit and run like a Cheetah. Get fired up Eagles.

The City of Westmoreland "SUMNER COUNTY'S FOOTBALL CAPITAL" is chomping at the bits. We started hitting prior to season here is Westmoreland. Lets just say our City Officials don't care for each other very much. There is on the other hand one common thread that holds them together. That's right, EAGLE FOOTBALL. Remember the MOTTO established by the man in charge: "HIT HARD AND RUN FAST" Boys don't ever get caught from behind. I hadn't been this fired up since my Senior Season when we beat the eventual State Champion Goodpasture Cougars in the first game of the year. That's right we hit harder and ran faster than the Cougars that night. Let's just say Clint Brown followed his pulling Guards perfectly that night (especially #64 LOL). The Buck Sweep, I should say,was unstoppable. Seniors make us proud in 2014. Bring home that District Championship. PS REMEMBER TO RAISE THE FLAG ON YOUR MAILBOX WHEN SENDING YOUR CHECK TO THE QB CLUB.

There is so much pressure on the Eagles when we play Greenbrier. Nobody wants to be on the team that finally loses to Greenbrier again. It's so fearful to think that a player might have to say someday that He played on the team that lost to Greenbrier for the second time in Westmoreland School History.

Will Roger Holmes be running the Wing T. Portland did hire him didn't they? I haven't heard?

Well said Southernfried. It is a benefit to hire someone that the kids know and who knows the kids. This Coach will also be able to analyze the 2013 Team and see where corrections need to be made in planning this 2014 Team. If any Portland players are reading this, be confident in this Coach. Did down deeper in everything that you do as players. The success is in your hands to make this a great Coaching Hire. Southernfried, I will be there to watch your son go as he is man after mine own heart running that Football.

Congratulations to Portland on what I feel is a great hire. 30 more kids have already picked up Physical Forms. That's impressive.

Maryville had a big Quarle and decided that the Wing-T is not the way to go a few years back. LOL

These kids at Portland deserve Stability. Not only do I hope they get a good Coach but I hope it is man with high moral values. I know this last Coaching staff had that.

I agree. Sam is a great Guy. Very Intellegent. Played Football at WKU. Portland Fans don't get discouraged. There is some Sophmore Talent on this Team. If handled well Portland is 1- 2 years away from being a good solid team. Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Portland West Middle go Undefeated with part of these Sophmores?

How and why did this discussion about the Wing T become a Portland Bashing Contest. This was about the Wing T at the State level in 6-A. Lets turn this around. I only wish Portland the Best.

Very Well Said. Let Athletes in the School help you. Don't be fighting with Basketball Coach, Baseball Coach, Track Coach. Let Athletes be Atletes and help the School win games. An Athelete does not have to be in the Weight Room everyday to perform on the Football Field either. Lineman is a different story. Need to be in the Weight Room.

It's all about fun and Opinions. I just think the Game is changing and some are not changing with the Game. It's hard to go Fast Pace no huddle in the Wing T. I guess it could be done. The Single Wing was used in the 50's and Johnny Majors loved it. But even he knew in his Tenure as Coach it wasn't the offense for the time of his Coaching Period. I have no Confidence is the Wing T winning consistently at the State level for 4 thru 6A. 1 to 3 A it is much more suited for as long as you don't face Alcoa or CPA.

When your Scheme is a running attack you develop runners and blockers. QB is kinda on the Back Burner. When you make it a point to versatile. You will spend Countless hours in season and off season developing a throwing QB. Some Head Coaches do not have anybody on their staff who can develop a QB and some do. If I was the Head Coach I would try to look all over the Country to find a good QB Coach. I watched Jackie kelley spend Countless hours with his QB's while Coaching at WHS. He could take average talent and get above average play out of QB. It can be done. Hendersonville's Passing attach was not a priority and it showed.

If it didn't stink hire another Single Wing Coach and see how many people are sitting in the Stands.
