  1. All of the wrestlers Ive talked to said its about 50 degrees down on the floor and the mats are as hard as rocks. From a fan perspective the atmosphere just isn't as exciting in that venue, Ive also heard the kids say the same thing.
  2. only the little kids are 1 minute periods, the oldest kids age group is 90 second periods and middle school id longer as well if Im not mistaken. Also they do this in 1 day, surely it could be done in three days on 8 mats if you cut out all the breaks.
  3. If I'm not mistaken didn't someone already do the math and it can be ran on 8 mats? If you think the Tssaa doesn't drag it out as long as possible to increase revenue for hotels, restaurants and concessions then you are fooling yourself. How many kids were at this tournament at Austin Peay? I bet it was more than what was at our state tournament and they do it every weekend in one day. Surely we can do it in three days. Move the girls to another venue and the problem is solved , if there even is a time issue to begin with. You say the coaches and administrators need to complain? Every single coach I know has complained. It's not an issue of what's central to our state but what is the best venue for these kids. Ask any kid that has seen the old state tournaments at Utc and they will tell you they hate the way it is now. Also, if it's free then let's not have all three finals at once. I for one would like to actually be able to view all three matches. Also, if it's free let's make nicer awards for the kids or something. Can someone smarter than me post pictures of what the kids state champions get and a picture of the tournament at Austin Peay? I saw one on Facebook recently but don't remember who posted it.
  4. I thought he would wrestle 126 as well. Might see something different in the next few weeks as both teams try to tweak their line ups.
  5. Looks like it will be another good one in the state duals. Pretty tough weight class
  6. Yes, definitely need an announcer. Get a parent or administrator to at least give the basic information, weight class, wrestlers name, state champ, and so on.
  7. That's what I was saying. I cant believe the students would go to a basketball game over this wrestling match. Fine by me, maybe I can get a ticket now.
  8. Surely not. I don't think I have been to a more exciting sporting event than the Baylor vs McCallie wrestling matches Ive seen . I can only imagine its even louder in Baylors small gym.
  9. Whatever their gyms capacity is. I called a dad of one of the wrestlers trying to get tickets and he told me he cant even get enough for his family. He did say they were streaming it on their schools website. I have been to the matches at McCallie but never at Baylor because it sells out so quickly.
  10. What happened to the big drop to 132?
  11. I didn't get to stay online and watch the MBA match vs Baylor? Any upsets or anyone overly impressive?
  12. Didn't get to go after all the build up. Thank goodness for web casts. First off... Congrats to both teams for laying it on the line. The state duals should be awesome! Hopefully the wife won't have a sudden project for me to do again! Which team was correct in it's predictions?? The edge goes to Father Ryan . They won the big three swing matches as predicted at 145,152,220 even getting bonus at 220 which even they didn't see coming. They were also correct in bonus Pts at 106. The little Simpson has a brutal half in case nobody knew that. Ryan was also correct that they wouldn't get pinned at 126 this time.Ryan was also correct in predicting no bonus at 160 although I would have been calling stalling 30 seconds into the match on that one and I hate stalling calls. Baylor was correct in predicting no bonus at 113 , 120, the win at 126, and the huge swing match with Murphy vs King. I'm glad King didn't drop down and we got to see that one. It will be interesting to see if he drops for duals and state. As mentioned Baylor was wrong about the swing matches at 145, 152, 220. I thought 184 was interesting with Garstin and Holloway both making comebacks. I'm not even going to predict the next match between the two. It's honestly a toss up.
  13. Not to be overlooked is the McCallie vs Father Ryan and Mba matches as well. The will be some huge individual matchups tonight. Is McCallie healthy? How will they stack up with Father Ryan? What are the big math ups in these matches? Westbrooks v Simpson? Dendy vs King possibly? Cornell vs Chalifoux? what are the predictions on this one ?
  14. As good as they are I think it would be worse now. Baylor had just gotten their football guys back and didn't even have all their starters yet. I think they bumped up A couple of weights also.
  15. Finally found the results from the Cleveland duals. Every match is vital, either being swing matches or the ability to gain bonus points. I spoke with two different Baylor dads and one Father Ryan this week. I will put the general consensus beside each weight . These are the best two teams in Tennessee and should be a great match. CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS BAYLOR 34, FATHER RYAN 27 (Match started at 145 Pounds) 106 – Christian Simpson (FR) won by forfeit; Baylor will have a 106, one thought they would get decisioned, one thought they would get pinned. Ryan thinks they will pin here anyway. Prediction: Ryan decision 3-0 Ryan 113 – Raymond Eason (FR) pinned Trevor Milling, 4:49; Another chance for Baylor to gain some ground. Both Baylor dads are confident they will not get pinned here again. One said they have a shot winning it. Ryan thinks they will pin. Prediction Ryan Decision Ryan 6-0 120 – Trey Chalifoux (FR) dec. Jack Reynolds, 13-7; Baylor is worried about this one, the much improved Reynolds has not wrestled much since their first meeting. Ryan thinks they will major at a minimum. Prediction; Ryan by major Ryan 10-0 126 – Mason Reiniche (Bay) pinned Jared Frazier, 2:57; Big swing here for Ryan if Simpson drops down. Baylor is still confident and Ryan is to. Prediction Ryan by decision. Ryan 13-0 132 – Kirby Simpson (FR) dec. Alex Atchley, 8-2; If king does indeed drop down this is another chance for Ryan to tack on some more points. Hopefully we get to see the Murphy vs King rematch though. Prediction Ryan by pin Ryan 19-0 138 – Eli King (FR) dec. Michael Murphy, 6-5; If king drops down Baylor is confident they will pin here. They are confident they will win even if he doesn't. They swear up and down Murphy was very sick and missed the next few matches and big Kansas tournament afterwards. Prediction ; king drops down to 132 and Baylor pins Ryan 19 Baylor 6 145 – Caleb Powell (Bay) dec. Chris Wesnofske, 8-4; Huge match . Baylor feels they will win again and Ryan thinks they will. Prediction: I'm torn on this one...Baylor by decision Ryan 19 Baylor 9 152 – Caleb Canada (Bay) dec. Nick Naughton, 5-2; Another huge swing match. Both teams are confident although Canada has missed some time with injury and Naughton is wrestling better. Prediction: torn on this one as well but I will go with Naughton this time since I gave the 145 to Baylor. Ryan 22- Baylor 9 160 – Blake Sutherland (Bay) dec. Marcelo Morrice, 3-1; Now we get to the part of the lineup where Baylor separates itself from other teams. This is a rematch of last years state finals which was also close. Baylor guarantees bonus points and Ryan seemed nervous they may give some up. Despite the close scores they said Sutherland has controlled the matches and that he is healthy and wrestling really well coming off of near upset of super32 champ Bullard last week. Prediction: I think it depends on where the match starts. If Ryan needs to just not get pinned he has proven he can keep the scores close. If Ryan needs a win there it may end up with big bonus. Prediction: Baylor decision Ryan 22 Baylor 12 170 – Cayman Seagroves (Bay) won by major dec. over Andrew Wesnofske, 11-1; This is one Baylor is confident they will gain ground. They predict a pin and state Seagraves is on fire having also barely lost to the other nationally ranked Bullard by 2 Pts. Prediction Baylor pin Father Ryan 22 Baylor 18 182 – Preston Cook (FR) won by forfeit; Huge swing here for Baylor. Cole Holloway is indeed back. They tried to keep It a secret but thanks to trackwrestling that's not possible. Last week was his first week on the mat in almost 2 seasons and he lost a close match in his first match against a stud. They are confident this will be a pin. One dad told me he won't get scored on at this weight in Tennessee. Prediction Baylor pin Baylor 24 Ryan 22 195 – Ryan Parker (Bay) pinned John Shaw, :40; This weight is very weak and Parker is very good. They stated nobody will score on Parker in Tennessee either. Prediction Baylor pin Baylor 30 Ryan 22 220 – Jon Schmissrauter (Bay) dec. Ben Stacey, 3-2; Another huge swing match it seems as though both of these kids have gone back and forth. Baylor says Schmissrateur is wrestling better than ever and they are confident he will win. One even predicted a pin. Ryan is also confident they will win. Prediction Baylor decision Baylor 33 Ryan 22 285 – Cooper Reiniche (Bay) pinned Rotime Bamgbose, 1:03. Father Ryan has a new heavyweight. Can he get the win here. Prediction : Baylor forfeits Final score Baylor 33 Ryan 28 I gave swing matches to Baylor at 145 and 220. Ryan could very well win one if not both of those. This match is going to be great
  16. An early season match or two? What are you trying to say?
  17. Soddy is certainly on a downward trend over their previous years. Weren't they missing some bigger guys? Not thst it would have made a difference much. How long has it been since Soddy hasn't been in the top 5 at the traditional state? It wouldn't suprise me to see Russo at the top of the podium in February though. Everyone has an off night every now and then
  18. Looks like Soddy was missing a few of their upper weights I think. Let us know how it ends.
  19. Has king even wrestled 132 yet this year? I can't see him at 120 or 126 even. Maybe Murphy will drop to. Might be some suprises by both teams before it's over.
  20. Can someone post results? Is it streamed live?
  21. It would make no sense for them to cut down now then just to gain it back
  22. I'll see if I can find and post the results of their last meeting. Baylor won by 5 I think but forfeited two weights. The Baylor contingent think that by not forfeiting those two weights it's a 15 pt 18 pt swing in their favor.
