  1. Lawrence Co Freshmen wind up the 07 season by defeating the Hickman Co JV 14-6 and finish out the year with a perfect 6-0 record. Lawrence Co defeated their opponents by a combined score of 154-14.

I SAW LC FRESHMAN PLAY GC FRESHMAN, LC IS VERY BIG, VERY FAST AND DEPTH TO GO WITH IT I KNOW I SAW THEM RUN 6 OR 7 DIFFERENT KIDS AND ALL OF THEM COULD GO. BIG FUTURE FOR LC IN FOOTBALL.

  2. I agree that 30 or 40 games is way to much for a 7 year old. My 7 year old played league ball and then he is going to play in a couple of All Star tournaments. He knows several kids that play on a travel team he has never asked to play with them but he has been asked by the coach. This is my response I have no problem traveling and playing every once in a while but it will not be every weekend or 3 or 4 tournaments but 2 or three is fun. The kids enjoy going and being together they could care less about the games they go and play get better and have fun. Then go back to the hotel and go swimming and the parents sit and talk about all the good things there children did that day. So if it is wrong for kids to have fun playing a game. Whats the harm. If parents dont push it and let them be kids.

  3. I have been coaching for about 10 years. I currently coach middle school baseball and love the fact that I get to teach kids the correct way to play. One of the correct ways to play is to develop cut fastballs and change ups. A curve ball is only 1 type of off speed pitch. It is over used in high school and poorly tought in little league. Kids are going to experiment on there on with pitches so why should adults who know as little as kids try and teach them a pitch that could damage there arm for life. I have been asked several times by parents to teach there kids to throw a curveball most of the time I say no, sometimes I will teach them to throw a cutter. And most of the parents cant tell the difference.

  4. What?

    Who?

Can he call, all the offensive plays, can he make adjustments at the line. Did his dad put the offensive in. Does he run a 4.6___40.

No disrespect but without the playmaker Raider country is in trouble for at least a year or two.

  5. What is this I hear several top players for Richland are not returning for this years team. Diaz already gone I hear there will be more to come. Does anyone hear the same things.

  6. One player does not make a team. But that will be a big loss to the offense.

He was able to take pressure of the QB. And with the offense that you all run some of the younger kids are going to have to step up. You have to have a reliable back to go to.

  7. Just wondering????

Are there any 7 and under travel teams that play in the middle Tennessee area.

If so, are ther any tournaments around here (within 100 miles)

One more question is there anything that a person has to do to get a 7 and under team together other than pick up the kids.

  8. With Smith as the head coach the football program at Giles Co. went backwards after the good run they had in the late-90's. In 2000 Giles Co. went to the playoffs but that was because the region was terrible and not because they were actually good. They were 3-8 that year and got killed in the first round by Crockett Co. The region that year consisted of Marshall Co., Page, and a team full of sophomores and juniors known as Sycamore. Outside of those teams the region then was Mont. Cent., Waverly, and Hickman Co. Needless to say those aren't three of Tennessee's better teams at all. Montgomery Central has gotten considerably better with Rickey Ray as the head coach and Hickman Co. is on the rise with Swenson at the helm but back then the football programs at those three schools were awful.

THAT WAS THE LAST TIME GILES CO. MADE THE STATE PLAYOFFS!!!!!

In 2001 Giles Co. started off fast and fell to pieces down the stretch. They finished 5-5 and missed the playoffs. In '02, '03, and '04 under Jackie Smith Giles was a combined 5-25 during those three years. This past year with those same group of seniors that went 5-25 during their first three years at Giles Co. coach Tim Johnson went 4-6 overall (4-3 in the region). That proves how great he was for Giles Co. Football right there.

Yes, but good year for Giles Co. Since 1980 has been 3-7 to 6-4 (With the exception of that good year with B.J. at QuarterBack.) When you put together a string of winning seasons like Richland did in the 80's then you can talk about tradition. Until then I dont think all those numbers you put matter a whole lot because you just put up the record of about 50-60% of the states football teams during the same time frame. You can be a good football coach and still loose.

I also noticed you mentioned TJ who I also agree is an excellent football coach there is no doubt about it. GC football tradition has been up and down for several years, all I am saying is the need stability not names. A young up and coming coach will do the same thing T.J. did and will G.C. embrace him as well.

  9. Jackie L. Smith??????? HA!

    You can laugh...But

He has stepped back into the coaching ranks after leaving, he is the safe choice

and the Giles Co. Football fans will only smirk at his return. Agreed he is not the person needed at this time but he will not leave for a more high profile postion.

And from all of the coaches mentioned except Smith from Mt. Pleasant (who has already turned down better postions) is the most loyal to the county.

And before anybody makes a remark loyalty should be a trait in the job search.

  10. Last time I checked coaches were not allowed to play, and when was the last time a fan came to watch a coach......coach in a high school baseball game. Players play, coaches should do what they are paid to do........................ coach.

  11. You seem pretty confident in WJ

All the talk is to bring someone in to the mix.

After the effort was made to bring in a "Big Name Coach" and then have him leave in one year. Is it not a bad idea to look in the county for a local product. There are some qualified asst. in giles co. that would not "cost" nearly as much as some of these names you all are throwing around. Besides there is no doubt that Giles co. can win, the question is can you find a coach the kids will trust.

not to imply that they will not trust a new coach from out of town, but in town is a safer option.

  12. Not trying to be negative. In my 6 years of coaching experience I have found out that very rarley is it what you know as far as coaching goes. You can win at one level and never get a chance to move up. You can have every qualification available for that job (short of a state title) and still get that lovely letter in the mail telling you that we decided to go another direction. Simply because of the politics envolved in coaching. So to answer your question, just love what you are doing and look for oppurtuinitys when they arise.
