Surely with 17 applicants someone has some head coaching experience or at the least had success at their prior stops. What's your thoughts on this?

From what I have been told nobody with head coaching experience as put in for the job. From what I am hearing there will be some sorta of committee to at least help advise with the hiring process. Who that committee will be I have no clue. Bigster who are you talking about being hired because of his father?

I have idea what your talking about. Coach Puckett was great here. Quinn got a bad rap because he absolutely didn't have any help. Coach Canada left on his own. As far as I know Coach Short is interviewing for the job. So don't understand your point. Yes , the pay is not that great. Other than that this can be a great place to coach.

Meant to say I have no idea what your talking about.

You folks kill me. Y'all out here acting like you weren't happy to get a Puckett man. This is why you can't keep a coach, along with the pitiful pay. You don't recognize good coaching. You just want some guy you can buddy up to until it's time to stab him in the back. Good luck...hopefully you will get the coach you deserve!

It’s because it’s remote and in the middle of nowhere and it’s in  poverty .  I’m not downing Lake County , I actually love it, there’s just something about it that’s mystifying ! This is why I think Xavier Garmon would be a perfect fit , he played and lived at South Fulton … was a QB for Memphis and a couple of other Universities… the fella above said he’s only got one year experience as OC and that’s just not accurate… he’s been there at least 3 years and he’s a successful black man that would do wonders at LC .

I said one year as So. FULTON oc

He doesn't matter if he is black or white. I would live proven head coach not some up or comer. Would Love Josh Wolfe but that will not happen.

  7. My wish is for a veteran head coach would put in for the job. Not that is likely to happen. It will be the same cycle of up and coming head coaches. The guy as So. Fulton as only been the OC there for a year. To me that is not enough time. The group of kids that SF currently have in school now are a once and 10 year class according to my sources. LC defeated SF last year and I expect the game to be close this year also. LC needs to make the best hire possible. It would be nice for a veteran coach to put in for job. I am talking about one with some success. Right now Lake County is a stepping stone job. The talent that is about to come cannot be trusted to just anyone. All the candidates that I have heard are all new coaches. If that is the case stay with what you have on staff and give him time instead of just hiring a rent a coach for 2 years. That's my opinion and only mine. I am sure there will be others and I will respect who is mentioned. I'm just not crazy about anything mentioned so far.

One person that has put in for the job is from Union City. He was the middle school coach there last season. I do not believe they won a game. Surely LC can draw more interest than that.

Not sure if the next coach will have head coaching experience. You would have to go back to Coach Bargers 2 d tenure here to find that. More than likely be some up and coming assistant.

Understandable! I hope and believe it's some good, qualify candidates that apply and are truly considered for the position. Some high school head coaching experience would definitely be a huge plus

No offense taken bro, I agree with everything you said in your post. I haven't heard of any names locally in waiting, I sure hope not anyway I'm just being honest. And with the middle school team coming up to high school in August Lake County will be a tough out for the next several years.

True LC is receiving several talented kids from middle school this year. The 7th grade class also has alot of talented players. I have heard a few names mentioned so far but will not mention.

I don't care if he is your friend and I don't care where he has coached. The text messages were made public on Facebook for all the world to see. And only a fool would be able to read said messages and be not be able to read the subtle racial undertones in those messages. No, he's coached at those places you mentioned simply because it was opportunities to win and pad resumes. Insinuating that he wouldn't coach at these schools simply because they have large black student athletes, in which you yourself is implying in not so many words is crazy. You can defend what you what, when you want. I'm college educated and I know racial comments, messages and texts when I read them.

You believe what you want. That is your business. I will believe what I want and will leave it at that. We will just have to agree to disagree. The facts are what they are. Again I know for a fact about the situation. I am done with this and will not comment further about this matter.

Yep he was the head coach at Caruthersville High School. However, what people are failing to mention is he was fired for making racist comments about the students at Caruthersville. His now ex exposed him and sent the text messages out.

This is wrong on so many levels. He didn't make any racist comments at all. What was said was someone taking his words and twisting them to make it sound racist. I know for a fact that nothing racist was said in those messages. Coach Dowland has coached at Lake County, Shelbyville and at Hopkinsville, Ky. If he were racist I highly doubt he would have coached at those places. I know him personally and he is not that kind of guy. All this is doing is trying to smear his name. I am not saying you are at all. For all I know you are just quoting what someone else told you. I just hate to see someone name get smeared without the actual facts. Oh he was not fired. He left on his on. No one mentioned the fact that some players at Caurthersville stole a bunch of shoes and other things from another school in Missouri. Adam wanted to discipline the kids by suspending them from playing football for that season and was not supported at all by the administration. The administration wanted them suspended for 1 game. That is what led to all of these rumors.

I think schedules are set for next year. After that, hope LC drops Dyersburg,TCA,Union City unless goes to AA,and Central.Add Fulton Co ,Fulton City,.maybe Perry Co.,Middleton even if longer travel.Or keep Union City and Central and pick up Ky schools not far away.Hopefulky get those easy wins like others.

Lake County should never drop Union City that game needs to be played every year along with Obion Central.

SF will be in the running for a region championship. If they stay healthy that is. Not understanding how you have LC at 2. Their own fans said they were a 1 man band this year and that 1 man is graduating along with the QB and much of the OL if I remember correctly.

Most of the LC offensive line returns. LC should be better at QB and LC always has RB. With that said LC will be young and probably 2 years away from being back to their usual self. UC will be the best in the region. So. Fulton returns alot in 2024. If SF is ever going to make a move it will be this year. LC will be anywhere from 2nd to 5th in the region.

All I read this year was how strong the West teams. Some predicted a mercy rule win over any East team. So much for all that, but you’ll probably use it again next year. Kept it close but East is strong.

Man come on. East is South Pittsburg. That's it. So. Pitt would have a hard time year and year out advancing on the west side of the bracket. They might could do it but wouldn't every year like they do in the east. So. Pitt is the state champs congratulations.

I do remember that.  We got a LB or DT through the line and finally made a play.  I can’t rent the kids name for LC but man he was a good back. That was a heck of a game.  That year, we had zero defense but that arm of Hayes was legit.

Yes, Drew Hayes was very good QB but to me a better baseball player.

Probably Drew Hayes and company.  We lost one to them 54-52 I think it was.

McKenzie lost to UC that year 56 to 33. They beat Lake County 54 to 53 that same year. Drew Hayes was the McKenzie QB. He threw for over 600 yards that night. Lake County rushed for a school record 707 yards the same night. LC scored on last play of game to get the game to 1 pt. McKenzie stopped the Falcons 2pt play to win. I think that was the only stop for either team all night.

UC is legit, McKenzie is legit, Obion 4A & Middle College & Lake Co very Avg….Their schedule no tougher than Moore Co…. Gonna be some great Quarterfinal and Semifinal games played on the West side of bracket to get to Chattanooga….& it ALL goes through Lynchburg ……Good Luck to ALL…..GO RAIDERS!!!!

You and I have different opinions on legit but that's what makes the world go around. I do think Dresden and Union City are good teams however. I think McKenzie is very solid but not what they have been for the last 2 years. I do think Coach Comer is a great coach and he gets the most out of each kid that he coaches. I would never count out a team coached by Wade Comer.

  19. Humboldt has a myriad of problems. Kids do what they want. Absolutely NO weight room. It is a basketball school. I doubt a good veteran coach would touch the job. Maybe the administration can go out and get a young talented coach who would stay at Humboldt. The administration would have to give him all the time and resources he needs. Let him have total control over all things football. Allow him to discipline as he sees first and back him.
