  1. I like the MVP race this season. Smith, Murray and McKinney can all make a case. I don't think their team's record should have an effect. This is the PLAYER of the year, not team. Can't hold a bad team against a player. I honestly don't know who I would take, but if Murray loses it solely because of the performance of his teammates, that's just wrong.

  2. Oakdale picked up two district wins this past week, Oliver Springs and Sunbright. They can possibly host their 1st round game if I'm not mistaken? Definitely did not see that this time last month. Gotta beat Wartburg Friday. At least they've got them at Fred Snow Gymnasium, and played them close last time.

  3. How about Oakdale beating Oliver Springs tonight? Don't think anybody on that Oakdale team has ever beaten OS. Really good win for that team in a season not going as planned. Don't count out the Lady Cats over one game though. OS will be scary in tournament time. Don't wanna see them in round one

  4. I honestly don't know enough about individual stats from the teams to make an accurate all-district selection. Haven't got to see Wartburg, Jellico, or Sunbright in person yet. With me being at school an hour away, I miss a lot of games. I've liked Kaylea Foster and Taylor Bird from CF, Melton & Hamby from WB, Crass & Morgan from OS, Everett from OD, and Dishman from Oneida, with Newport as the MVP. Not sure who I'd pick for all-district though. Those are just players who I liked when I watched them

  5. My opinion on POY: it is the PLAYER of the year, not team of the year. Best player in the district should get it regardless of their team. Sometimes good players get stuck on bad teams. Can't hold that against them.

With that being said, the best player happens to be one a top-2 team anyways: Baylee Newport. She's just too good to not win it. Kaylea Foster would be the only other player with a chance, but it's all Newport's IMO.

  6. I truly think Harriman would be 2nd in D4. I recognize the Coalfield loss, but I still think they're too athletic to not be at bare minimum 3rd. I think they'd beat CF if they played again. Yes, they beat Oakdale in the region last year. Oakdale had one official practice/game before the Harriman region matchup in 14 days due to weather. Oakdale couldn't throw the ball in the ocean that game. I would LOVE to see those two play this year. Under normal circumstances (no weather/injuries), that game would be a barn burner

  7. Wartburg is a good team, I just can't see them beating Oakdale. They're the only team left on the schedule with a chance to keep a game respectable. Even with that said, I see the Eagles beating them handily twice. Not due to talent, but play style. Wartburg usually beats teams by speeding them up and making them play out of control. Oakdale plays the exact same style of basketball, just with better pieces to do it with.

  8. A few random things:

Oakdale had a good week. Handled Sunbright, got revenge for an early season loss by blowing out Monterey, and held on to beat Scott.

I watched some D3 action this week as well. Harriman took on Rockwood yesterday. Harriman looks really good, but Rockwood isn't as bad as their record says. They get good looks, their posts just have to finish. Thompson (transfer from South Doyle) can play. They're not a bad team.

Ready for 10 minutes of Oakdale-Coalfield on Monday! Hahaha.

  9. Oakdale's Macayla Davidson (#10) had to be rushed to the UT Trauma Center during their game vs. Scott County. Fell head first into the court and got knocked unconscious. Had seizures from the impact as well. Definitely scary. She is recovering in the hospital right now. Doing okay though

  10. They definitely beat sub-par teams. Even in the wins, they looked good though. Scoring was balanced, they were attacking, good defense, etc. Regardless of opponent, they look worse now. I'll get to see the Lady Eagles tomorrow (Monday) at 1:30 and don't know what to expect. Yet again, I'm hoping they play hard. Hopefully an embarrassing loss to Anderson County made them mad.

  11. Trust me, I tried my best to take the red glasses off for the analysis of that game. Haha. AC is truly a weaker team from a talent standpoint. No size, no good guards, etc. By watching them warm up I thought we had a blowout win in front of us (even with how bad they have been playing), not a double digit loss.

Oakdale started out the year looking really good and has went down ever since. My confidence in picking them came from what they had done in the beginning of the year. They better show me something to change my mind about how the 2nd half of the year will go. I haven't seen a play with that lack of intensity or drive in a long time.
