Ok let’s think about something. The basis of “no evidence” against Powell was on “he said he said” correct? So basically what that means to me is the only word they had to go off of was the players saying that Coach X came up and tried to get me to transfer to Powell. But let’s think about that for a second, based on that the only person making any claims was the player, no coaches no parents, etc. because then there would be multiple people all saying the same thing vs a coach denying he said anything. So what their saying is the ONLY person(s) making a claim was the players. Now tell me, what HS kid is gonna go to Tssaa and try to turn in a school? Lol, exactly, so there had to be coaches also backing up the claims along with the players testimony’s. To me, and maybe I’m wrong, but when you’ve got multiple people saying the same thing vs one person saying it didn’t happen, sounds like the multiple peoples claim holds more water than the latter. I believe there was enough evidence for something to be done but due to the timing of the matter it was overlooked. Just my opinion.

I hear it was from multiple schools with multiple players from each school and a couple of parents of the players heard it too. It is Hearsay but smoke.  At the end of the day it doesn't matter. 5A State Champions were Knox Central.  A team doubted early but pulled together and got it done.

  2. Lol this is funny but true. I would have put Austin East toward bottom though. They lose more kids than bring in from outside is what i heard. Never understood how kids on Magnolia could go to Fulton, Gibbs or Carter. Green Hills kids could go to South Doyle. When I heard this I was like your kidding. When my last grandkid was at HVA several kids went there due to NCLB from Austin East.

  3. Congrats Central and good luck. Oak Ridge had a great chance 2018. You were up 3 TDs and started calling pass plays.  Guys like Higgins and Middleton should have brought you at least to championship game you would think. I say this as a casual observer not knowing anything about the inside of your program. What also know is you guys put a darn good product in the field more times than not. Getting there takes luck. Region 3 and Region 4 except for the last couple years we're pretty tough to get through. The top four teams in Region 3 could compete for the number one spot in any other region in 5A. So that region is kind of like the SEC in college football. But that's not to discredit what central has done the last couple of years because they had to play that region to get there. Oh yeah go LSU

  4. Roll Wildcats Roll. I think you guys had best team 5A in state last year after all said and done. At HVA game a couple of weeks back I was told the OL is pretty much exact same from last year. Defense took some hits in secondary but D front pretty much same too. I notice OR offense changes every year. There may be reasons for that but never seems to fit personnel. Spread to Wing T option, to spread T, to D&MG (Decoy and Motion Graham) offense, to power spread 2 weeks ago and now pistol pro (it whay oh was told). There may be a reason for this I don't know but would think that they need to hang hat on something and build it from youth up. I did hear OR Boys Club has got football back going. I still remember Mr. Lawrence Hann. That's the key. Oak Ridge Is great program and knocking at door each year. They have been a game or 2 away from big dance several times lately.

  5. Didn't Stevens go to the State Championship? 1 of 3 years state championship what other coach has done that? I guess the other 2 years was awful.  Just asking wasn't back yet. I remember Young went 4-6 1 year in 80s when I lived there. If Pruitt made it to National Championship playoffs then lost in Bowl game then not make Bowl game 1 of those years would we consider those three years dismall? Fulmer won 1 and considered the greatest Tennessee coach. Just asking. Oak Ridge has a great program. They do it the right way. They play anybody. So far they lost to 2 6A schools that are not at the bottom of their regions. As someone said earlier, let season playout. And remember (I'm retired) but what if our jobs had a blog spot to talk about how we screw up at work. Support the kids.

  6. I say again. We always play close games with Oak Ridge.  Oak Ridge may lose 3 of 1st 4 but still will contend for a region championship, hence #1 seed.  The south is not as good (yet Rhea County Offense always is tough to deal with) and to get to round 4 OR has to beat Region teams.  I seen it with HVA a couple of years ago.  Got on a roll then competed losing to Oakland.  I know it's a long way from playoffs but I post this to say be patient with this team.  BUT you should of won it all last year (not a jab just a football fan) you had the best team in 5A.  As others said it's just game one.

What happened Friday night? Oak Ridge returned their entire offensive line and Hardin Valley knocked them on their butt all night long. Number 53 for Hardin Valley was coming in untouched most of the night and the only time they could even get close to blocking him is when they blocked at his knees.

Some people may not like it, but this is the worst I've seen Oak Ridge play since S.S. was the coach. What has happened and what can be done about it?

Isnt Stanton Steven last coach in 20+ years that took Oak Ridge to Championship? If you say it was someone else team, then don't blame current coach for not getting there it's Blades fault. Please stay with your team. Glad we won but every time we've played it could have went either way.

I don't totally disagree with you on everything you say, but as I've said before, it's about linemen. Basketball and cross country don't require them, but football does. Basketball relies on athletes and OR usually has some good ones and they can usually compete with anyone. Those same athletes in football DEPEND on the linemen to create opportunities to showcase their talents. Have you ever watched line play or are you like most fans and just watch the ball? The OR linemen are good kids I'm sure but the teams that have been winning titles are way bigger than OR's linemen, plus they have great athletes. OR just doesn't have enough good, big linemen. Rhea County and Catholic were VASTLY superior to OR up front. When I watched Central on TV in the title game last year, they were HUGE and athletic up front. OR just hasn't had that in years. When they do have maybe one big guy, he can't move. I focus on line play in every game (I was a lineman). I'm surprised that your brilliant Elite buddy hasn't noticed this.

It's easier to compete statewide in basketball because it's athletes vs athletes...no linemen, but in football it's athletes/linemen vs athletes vs linemen.....totally different story.

As far as the OR tradition is concerned, it's great but why is it even being talked about? What's the point? If you don't like the OR tradition, then don't speak of it...that's easy. If you appreciate it, then mention it. What's it got to do with anything?

    Perfect.

  9. Wow off a scrimmage. Could Oak Ridge won state championship in last 6 years. YES But so could South Doyle, Henry County, Rhea County, Ooltewah and many others that have great players. At the end of the day players and fate win championships. I been at 3 games OR lost in playoffs since Gaddis been back. Last year game versus Catholic 40+ points and lose. I remember 2 plays were the Oak Ridge DB just stopped running and one was for an Irish 1st diwn the other was a TD. The year before that against Catholic played a better team and almost pulled off upset. The Rhea County game several years ago they stopped OR with 5 guys in box. OR could not run the ball. It wasn't the call it was execution. Defensively Rhea made 4 big plays on 3rd down because the 1st the OR OLB went with back and Rhea ran a reverse for a big play . The other two were missed tackles. And 4th was when No one touched TE and he caught for a big 1st down. Those same games I do question calls (offense easier to critique) Rhea County game I would have thrown to Tee and Darel early cause their DBs were 5'6. Rhea County offense won't allow them to play from 2 TDs behind. Last year Catholic you're up 3 possession and your trying to throw. QB who plays defense was running around probably tired which hurt you on defense. Run the ball shorten the game. Your 2 RBs were good enough to take it to the house but if not you're going forward not backwards. Nevertheless the coaching staff has something fans and former players don't. Scout film, practice, knowledge of players, and consistency in understanding scheme. (Better athlete not always better player especially when he may not know his job or refuse to do What coached.) In other words if each player is a piece of puzzle and 1 player is a triangle but the piece missing is a circle. You can't use them.

  10. I have no dog in this fight 5A thread and my home school is 6A. At HVA we don't even have a coach yet! But I will say it doesn't look good to have kids (please I don't want to come down on a kid but someone should have stopped that) putting on social media they are deciding to go to a school and may not be in zone. However I am told TSSAA has no problem with Knox Co student going to any school in county if KCS approves but once athletic record starts then proper transfer rules are in place. I just believe if your program is good win with what you have.

  11. Hey clarification: I'm just saying 4.58 is moving. I'm neither verifying or denying. Impressive time for any ball player. Most high school teams don't have a bunch of 4.6 and lower guys. Especially at LB. Maybe in Florida, Texas, and California. Keep working young man.

  12. Wow #44 is one of your fastest guys on your team. Besides Graham of last year maybe 1 more or 2 more would run under 4.58. Maybe the 2 track kids and Booker. Possibly #12. 4.58 true time is moving. I wonder if Higgins ran under that in high school.  Great time but at his position his shuttle is probably stick out to scouts. Nevertheless heck of a time 4.58.

You need to get a clue before you post here. You know nothing about the DB football program. With the exception of Alcoa, DB has played the schools you listed for years. In past years (when Watson coached the defense) DB played those schools and went 10-0. Whats the difference now? Nobody knows how to coach defense. The proof is in the numbers. Check it out for yourself. The reason DB's record in the playoffs isn't so great is because Clark always went into the playoffs scared to death he was going to loose. So he did, by coaching scared and using conservative play calling.

I do know they haven't won a state championship since 60s. So what standard are you holding current staffs to.  Just like DB may be down maybe those schools are up. Greenville hasn't always been where they're at now but this is where they are. It takes time. No program can sustain greatness. But doesn't meam they are not great. I.e. Alabama, ND, OSU

Oh, I have heard the same thing on the DC for about a week, now, but yesterday I was told that there may be a step back and start again coming.  Not saying that the DC is not going to end up being the guy when all is said and done, only that there were some "unexpected" names that applied and are going to be considered.

    Got it thanks

  15. Wow.... I will say fans (i guess) negative breeds negative results.  You have a historic program and great expectations should be expected. However, most times changes such as replacing a long time coach, programs go through tough transitions.  Not to mention the fact that DB hasn't watered down their schedule (Greenville, Oak Ridge, Alcoa, Farragut, and Science Hill) are all tough programs.  All of them are  (can be) state contenders in their perspective classifications. I think if you are patient and instill positive support change will come.  Most of the people complaining wasn't born the last time DB won a state championship (1960). Before taking on this type of scheduling, DB would finish 10-0 then lose when having to travel down 81 to Knoxville area.

Don't think that is true at all.  He may be a candidate, but the job posting is still open.  If it were done they could have closed the job posting by now and started the interview process.

I've heard about a dozen names today who have, or will apply by the end of the week.

We all know when an in office hire is made.  But they have to put it out for a certain number of days.  I'm betting it is someone in house unless they refuse.  I'm hearing the DC but you could be right HTV.

How many long runs did we have against really good opposition last year? I can probably count on one hand how many and 2 were against Catholic. The whole conversation is overrated. I never saw any great speed from either Farragut or Catholic, but both of them beat us, even with our amazing breakaway speed we had last year- because they could consistently move the ball on us when the going got tough, we couldn’t.

#12 makes big runs, Booker has some big runs. Go to twitter and watch Graham career highlight. I follow Gerald Riggs and he had it on his twitter and it seems like he had the most runs over 40 yds I seen except for maybe Jackie Pope (I never got to see).   Never seen Booker, #12 or Graham ever get caught on news or games on TV. You all would know better.  What about the fast kid that runs track for Oak Ridge from JMS? He's about Graham's size but Graham is thicker.  He's on 4x100 and 4x200 team the last 2 years.  He can fly. What # is he in football.

Love this response! Lol. Never snorted but I remember the 70s... kind of. Lol

I just wonder if you spend all your time on social media or if you have a connection.

I grew up in 50-60s and think social media came along too late so I'm truly making up time. Lol. It's better than sitting with misses watching Price Is Right or playing Scrabble on my phone lol

I'm amazed at how much you know about the OR program, our players, and our former players. I'm an OR fan and you know more than I do. Do you have a pipeline into the OR coaching staff, or do you have a relationship with a parent of an OR player, or are you retired and just sit around and read social media all day? I'm not being critical but when an HVA fan knows more about OR football, OR players, and former OR players, than I do (and I live in OR), I just wonder if you spend all your time on social media or if you have a connection. I know NOTHING about HVA football, nor do I want to. That's why I never post anything on their thread. Since you're on here, who will be your next coach?

I think someone in school. I think with the principal there she would hire inside to not tip over the Apple cart (big on academics but respect sports) with adjusting to new coach = new system, new staff or staff positioning. I think it is too late to bring in someone from outside unless they have a tie with school or principal.

In regards to Oak Ridge I came here with Union Carbide 73-79 and lived there. Left to work at plant in WV. Came back in 86-91 moved to San Antonio to work at Base. Moved back to Tennessee in late 2000s my kids were still here and was grandfather. I know a lot of Oak Ridgers I worked with and befriended through the years. I cheer HVA but still Wildcat fans.

I know Darel youth coach and kept up with him when he went to OR from Powell. Whenever I go downtown I see him the restaurant he works in and he still talks to Darel and his mom. I called him when I seen him in the discussion just to get an update. Also I know Coach Dykes and he was college teammates with 2 of your coaches at ETSU. I know Coach Maynard also who used to coach at Oak Ridge with Bill Young. So we talk about the Ridge sometimes. Lol

Bonkers OR fans are around the nation. That program was one of the Premier programs in the country. I'm sorry I'm a fan of Oak Ridge, Judson (San Antonio  TX) and Hardin Valley. Im kind of partial to Loudon too. Lol

Finally I love Twitter. I get a lot of info from there.
