  1. Last season was not the "norm" for a Guz Malzahn offense. So are you saying yalls offense is going to consist of running 80 plays out of 3-4 formations? Did you mean it will be like what he ran with Cam or at Ark State? The Wild Hog and what he ran last year did work well, but defenses will catch up like they always do, especially if there is virtually zero passing threat.

    I guess we'll find out August 22.

  2. His biggest challenge will be finding a QB that run and throw in his offense. He likes a very athletic QB and competition for the job should be good.

That will be the key, Wilkinson is more of a conventional pocket passer, but can run if needed, Majors is probably the better athlete but is only a sophomore and has limited experience, Gudat could be ok if daddy will stay out of the way, but the unknown and maybe the best option would be Malik Ladet, great athlete and has a good football IQ. He will be a senior and could hold the position while the two younger ones come along. Spring practice should be very interesting.

  3. Congrats to the four young men that signed with schools last week. Who are the staff members this coming year?

Adam Wood and Issac Slatton have been overseeing workouts the last few days, and I heard a rumor that Matt Turner may be coming back as line coach but haven't seen anything official.

  4. Coach Smith starts fulltime today. I hope he can turn this thing around 180 and not do a 360 with the same old stuff. I did hear that the only two confirmed members of the staff have been working with the young men in the weight room. I think these two are the best fit for a new head coach, personally I would like to see more new guys on the staff why buy a new car and out retread tires on it.

  5. Volfan must be a parent that is scared to death that his golden boy won't get to play if certian coaches are on staff. Don't be jealous that other people know more about football than you do. I"m sorry if you don't have what it takes to coach more than peewee football.

I actually don't have a kid playing and have never coached youth football and I'm not even from McMinnville just happen to work there. There are several people that I work with that have kids playing and say the minute that Rackley steps onto the field their kid is gone some even say they'll play for Boyd for a year then go to neighboring counties.
  6. I just saw in tomorrow paper because it's online already that Cotten back out on Boyd. So I take it he will be staying on staff, that will make some you locals happy!!!!

He will have to win back the confidence of a lot of the kids that texted that he was going to Boyd. Kids need stability and flip flopping back and forth won't help.

  7. what did the new coach have to say at the booster club meeting?

I didn't get to attend since I work nights but was told he said that the days of "daddy ball" in WC are over. I hope it's true and the administration will back him on that, there are a lot of good athletes roaming the halls that are not playing because of that very reason.

  8. Sounds like the committie has done a good job and the powers to be (AD, school board, Director of schools)  have the program heading in the right direction!

Maybe it took Ronnie Brown and Jimmy Walker on the committee to bring some common sense to the committee. They won a state championship in baseball, I know that's not football but they know how to maneuver thru the minefield that is coaching in Warren County. I hope so.

  9. Boyd doesn't even have enough boys to fill a team do they? As for college recruiters I don't see them beating down the door at WCHS. The kids get notice when you attend camps and combines which brings the coaches out to watch them.

Boyd doesn't have enough going to school there, but their baseball teams let kids that don't even attend school there to play, which I imagine that's how they intend to fill the team. Any how I hope the committee has done a good job picking the coach because the future of the football program is on their heads now.

  10. Great hire if they did hire Smith.

Great hire IF they let him bring the assistants he wants and coach his way. Hopefully WC has learned from the last four years and took a look at the coaches they've had and the success those people had once they left. Gary Rankin, Heath Woods, Glen Campbell are a few that come to mind

  11. That name was one of the 5 finalists that I heard. Supposedly Cotton has taken the position of head coach for F.C. Boyd's new football program, which could pose a problem for the Pioneers. If Boyd runs it like their basketball and baseball programs they will try and take any good players from the WC team. But my question to any potential departing players is why would you leave a TSSAA program for one that plays against mostly home school teams?  I don't think a lot of college recruiters attend those games

  12. I will be surprise if someone from Tennessee with head coach experience takes this job. This job will go to someone with no head coaching experience.

I was told a Billings or Billingesly , from Texas was given an interview late last week. My source couldn't remember a first name only he is now an DC at a Texas high school and played DT at Texas Tech. Also the coach from Moore County was really interested.

  13. He was middle school head coach two years ago and working with the high school team the last two years.

I don't think Cotton is quite ready to be a high school head coach yet. He would make a good coordinator, he has a great football mind but being a successful middle school head coach is a world away from being a good high school head coach. At least Willmore is going to oversee the weight room until a new coach is in place. I really hope the school administration doesn't screw up this hire, it would be nice to know who is on the 5 person selection committee besides Willmore, Cassel and Cox because the future of football in Warren County is on their shoulders and if it doesn't work out this time  it should be their heads that roll too.

  14. Why would anyone want to start a football program at F.C Boyd?

Better question is why would a kid want to play for a non-TSSAA school? Supposedly a former assistant coach and current school board was overheard telling the former ms coach that he would be the next coach at the high school and if the school board member was defeated in the upcoming election that he would be brought as a coach. Don't know if all this is true, but sure sounds like the kind of WC usual happenings
