  1. The format is fine as is. Meddling is not needed.

So, a team that has a better record or won their region has to go on the road for the quarterfinals or semi-finals - who cares. If they deserve to be there, they will win the game. It is part of the advancing deep in the playoffs experience..going somewhere different to play an opponent you normally wouldn't play.

Besides, the reward for winning their region is to host the first two rounds.

    UC fans be like:

"We have a very good team, we like to run the football and get 3-4 yards, and whenever the ball carrier is tackled, we like to do it again, and again, and again, and again. And then we will throw a pass to keep the defense honest."

"We have a good field (they really do). We like to paint it purple, and red, and blue, but this year, we painted it green."

"We have a very good band. Last weekend, they played at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis and finished 6th of out 22 bands. And when our color guard throws the flags in the air, we let the win carry them and not make an attempt to catch them. But we have a good band."

"If Union City loses this game, they lost it, the other team didn't win."

"POUND THAT BALL!!! - says the 60 year old man that played left guard in high school."

In all seriousness I do think Columbia Academy will win the game if they take advantage of offensive possessions. UC's defense isn't that special.

(I'm also not trolling UC, just hopefully having a good sense of humor)

I just talked to my friend on the UC Turf staff. He thanks you for the compliment & said they do not paint the field as a whole. They do use field paint for logos, yard lines & stuff like that. When they color the whole field, it is a special type of grass dye normally used for winter golf course greens.

They have dyed it purple before but prefer to keep it green. He said they just went partially dormant & that's why they dyed it green this season since half of the field was still green.

  3. I just happen to know as we, our school system contacted UTM and Bethel and both gyms were occupied with games. That was done then and should be done now.

The region that year was to be played at Bethel if 14A didn't sweep. So, no, Bethel was not contacted by your school system because it was already to be played there until the 14A sweep happened. UC wanted it at their place. Also, the Elam Center in Martin was in fact available during the Region dates in 2015. Check the dates. UTM was on the road the 2/15-2/27. UC hosted the Region semis & finals that year - 2/25 & 2/26 - because they wanted home court advantage period. Also, the dates were pushed to back to back to back nights because of weather that delayed the district championship game for a week.

  4. Very confuse Tide fan!U.C. Athletic director said there was no damage once so ever done to the locker room!!!He said this to the Jackson sun,so why is this still a issue!?

This reasoning is the perfect example of why these kids behave the way they do. If you are a guest you should act in a responsible & respectful manner. But, with your logic of "as long as there was no damage" to explain away a punishable offense is absurd. It is a sad state in society when we begin to excuse inappropriate behavior.

  5. Well, I've yet to hear that there was any concrete damage done in Union City.  If standing on countertops with shoes on is vandalism, then I should've been arrested a long time ago for all the times I've stood on my countertops in order to reach the top of my cabinets.  But that's neither here nor there.

I can't say that Peabody will win Friday night, but I can say that it will be completely different from the previous game. I'm excited, and I plan to get there early to get some seats! Roll Tide!

Difference there is that they were "your" countertops not someone else's. Standing behind a prank is condoning disrespectful behavior. But, if that is acceptable at your school then so be it. When you get down to it, the whole situation is sad that the young man can't learn from his mistakes.

  6. Lake County, on a 5 game winning streak in 14A. Two 80mph + pitchers with Strayhorn and M.Bargery. Great bats with Taylor, Johnson, Rushing, and M. Bargery. Look out for this team in district and region.

What happened to them last night? UC beat them 12-2...

  7. Wow this guy just quoted Rick pitino. The same Rick pitino that got fired and then tubby smith won national championship the next year. If you would of quoted coach calipari or coach k people would read it but pitino. Cmon man

Pitino wasn't fired - he left Kentucky to become head coach & general manager of the Boston Celtics. He won a national title with KY in 96 & runner-up in 97 - not fired. He resigned from the Celtics in 01 & took over at Louisville the same year. Get your facts straight bub....

As to the game - the Murphy Center can eat up teams that rely on shooting the 3. But, UC has played in big gyms, small gyms - doesn't seem to matter. Hampton's experience will be important in stopping a Tornado run that can be devastating. UC by 12.

  8. Congratulations to Zach Stewart on winning 1A Mr. Football - lineman.  Also, congratulations need to go to UC's two finalist Jernigan & Henry.

I watched highlights of the Yellow Jackets.  Stewart & Bible are very impressive young men on the field.  Stewart had some very good blocks on the video I watched.  Bible has some elusiveness to him & a good arm as well.  The Yellow Jackets run the pistol offense pretty well.

I've watched UC in person a couple of times this season & their triple option veer is so tough to stop.

Stewart & whomever UC puts in front of him will be a fun matchup to watch.

But, it is a team game & Union City looks to have the better team.  We'll know for sure on Friday.

  9. There have been countless debates on the subject and they are every where on this 1A board. I am not explaining it all again. If you want a better answer go through these pages or look for your answer elsewhere. I will only say this. There are 3 schools in Obion County- Union City 1A, South Fulton 1A and Obion County Central who is moving up to 5A next season. It is open zoning in our county and the parents choose where their kids go to school. I don't know why so many kids from the city limits get on a bus every day and go to OCC. IT could be because UC is a Magnet School and the curriculum is harder or for any one of a thousand reasons. If you want to know more then go find it.

Obion Central is in Region 7-4A for football next season - not 5A.

  10. I have a quick question, How can a city with a population of over 10,000 have high school that is only single A? I'm just asking because I live in Clinton and we have a population of around 10,000 and have a 5A high school.

It is my understanding that about half of the kids eligible to go to UCHS go to the two county schools - Obion County Central & South Fulton.  Union City recently had graduating classes of under 60 students & under 80 students according to friends of mine that live there.  I've also been told that their enrollment is growing year by year & the next classification period in two years may have them in the 2A ranks in football.

  11. LOL. I never wrote that UC was understating their enrollment at all, much less by 50 kids. Those are your numbers Big Bubba Bean Counter. Hypothetically though one could entertain the possibility of temporarily "re-allocating" 5-20 at the beginning of the reporting period and then adjusting it later. That way you could hypothetically get the Fed's money, get a few gold balls, etc. Not saying that's the case with UC. It is entirely possible that the last four reporting periods which have come in at 398, 399, 396, and 394, just below the 400 bump up to 2A, are absolutely 100% accurate.........

Not a bean counter nor a UC fan...just thought your post was a bit ridiculous. By the by, you can't not count students for a period & then start counting them without the ability to show when they enrolled.  From what I hear, UC's enrollment will be above the 1A level with classes growing in size.  But, remember that Obion County has seen a severe drop off in residents with Goodyear closing.  People seem to forget that little tidbit.

But, I agree with BigSwo - back to the game:

Will Lake County's talented back Wilkes be held to under 150 yards?
