  1. How does anyone pick York so high?

They lost 5 seniors and Blevins is in the group....gonna be very different to learn to play without him.

You and the other experts may be right. But we will soon see. I don't believe YAI will be 7th or 8th in this district if they are healthy. Legitimately, anywhere from 3rd to 6th.

I hope everyone picks this bunch of kids last, they could surprise some folks. Nice to go into a season with zero expectations or pressure.

  2. With new classification period coming up for the 2017-2018 season, this could be the last year with Macon and York in this district. I know roundball is still a couple months away, but it's fun to talk about it. Here's my take on the district this year.

Upperman looked pretty good this summer, McWilliams and Endicott will be two front runners for POY, the addition of a senior from LA will help them. Macon looked pretty good also. They played without Carlisle quite a bit, look to be a big squad with a couple good shooters to go with Ashburn, also potential POY. Smith will be pretty young, as they have no seniors but return two of the best players in the district with Shepperson and King, both potential POY candidates. These 5 players above to me are my predictions to be on 1st team all-district.

LA just lost Neely for the year, which is a big blow to them, but Hayes and Miller will be tough to guard for anyone. Central Magnet lost their best returning player to Blackman, but they will be scrappy. York will be pretty young, with only 1 returning starter I believe. It will be interesting to see how they do without Blevins. Cannon will be scrappy and play hard. Not sure who their best player is. DeKalb should be better this year as they only lost one senior. Harpole, Poss, and Evans should be their go to guys.

I see the district shaking up like this:

    1. Macon

    2. Upperman

    3. Smith

    4. DeKalb

    5. Livingston

    6. Cannon

    7. Central Magnet

    8. York

The top 3 could go either way. 4-8 could go either way also. This district, as close as it was last year, might be even closer this year.

    1. Upperman

    2. Smith

    3. Macon or York

    5. Livingston

    6. Dekalb or Magnet

    8. Cannon

Other than Upperman the district in my opinion will be way weaker than the last couple of years, very competitive but much weaker overall.

  3. Unreal that even an accomplishment like this gets flack!!!!!!!! Guess what? The teams that they played were also made up of all stars from different schools. And, 3 of these girls will play together at PC, but so what? This isn't about high school teams anyway! It is about AAU teams made up of outstanding players! Unrealistic? They played by AAU rules. It was real. So where did you get this nonsense about high schools anyway? What "big name teams?" I think the AAU NATIONAL CHAMPIONS are a BIG NAME team. Just go to another site and let these well deserving young ladies be appreciated as representing how great Upper Cumberland basketball is and has been for 35 plus years.

What are you talking about?. What I said couldn't have been more in defense of these kids and the Rush program. Don't understand why you think anything I said was unflattering or anything else negative. My post was in response to the one before mine that said the task now would be to keep those kids together for 4 more years, I answered both HS and AAU scenarios. And if that person was referring to these kids staying together in HS I said that was unrealistic since they are in multiple school systems and it is.

You won't find a bigger fan of that bunch of kids and what they accomplished than me, my kid played on it.

  4. Congrats! Upper Cumberland always has some great talent! Unfortunately these girls all split up in High School so there will be no dominant force in the HS ranks. This makes the 7th grade on even keel with the 8th -!2th grade talent in TN. Great talent that is not necessarily concentrated in any certain area! Kudos go to whoever was able to get all these girls on the same team! Now the challenge becomes how do you keep them all together for 4 more years!

That is very unrealistic. These kids came from what will be 5 or 6 different High Schools (Pickett Co , Livingston Academy, Dekalb Co, Macon Co and either or possibly both York Institute and Clarkrange).

It would be like keeping all the Nike Flight kids together at one HS.

Niow if you are talking about keeping them on the same AAU team, I don't see after a national championship any reason why they would go to another organization. In fact, it is more likely that a good number of high talent Upper Cumberland kids that played for other organizations would want to, for the first time be competitive with the big name teams and also save money & time by playing for the TN Rush.

TN Rush has made great strides over it's time as an organization, so much so that they are competing with (and in a couple of age groups actually beating) the much larger Flight, Pride, Force, Fire, Sol, etc programs.

The fact that the TN Rush is even in the conversation with those programs is a testament to the founder, Matt Ferrell, the coach of this team, Josh Agee, all the coaches and most importantly the kids from the Upper Cumberland who make up the Rush organization.

  5. Passed over the best candidate they had. The current Dekalb middle school coach..... Knows the program, knows the area talent and has won the JCH State Tournament this past season AND a 7th Grade D-2 State AAU Tournament a couple of weeks ago.

The hire may do great, but a guy who hasn't been a head coach of anything for a few years and has never coached girls in his entire career sounds like a bad decision to me as an outsider.

  6. Marshall county doesn't match well against maplewoods quickness and Bo hodges on a mission . Brainerd very hot since Christmas don't see them losing . I will go with elizabethtown they have been hot and don't know much about CAK

Don't know if York can beat Brainerd or not but I wouldn't be surprised at all if York pulls the upset, Elizabethton has a legitimate shot also..

    Marshall will be outgunned imo.

  7. When you don't lose games all year your going to be ranked high. I've already said White County had a good team, what all the hype was about scoring so many points when you play a soft schedule makes you believe your better than maybe you are. Knox Catholic is a really good AA team but when you run into Fulton who had been ranked higher than them all year with only 2 losses i knew catholic would have trouble with them.

I just don't like when people say "Well there is no district in the state they would finish 3rd or worse and if you believe that then it's ludicrous". It's as simple as educating yourself on the computer. As a basketball fan it's good to educate yourself about all areas of the state and not just your area.

That's fair enough. I agree scheduling does matter. May have overstated the 3rd in any district statement, but they are darn good and would've been extremely competitive anywhere imo.

Like I said I have no ties to WC, but they could really shoot it and the players all handled themselves with class.

Didn't like people piling on after one loss. Only 3 teams (5 counting privates) are going to end this season with a W.

  8. Maybe you need some help understanding how poles work, they don't combine AA and AAA. National poles have memphis east in the top 30 in the nation and their only in state loss was to Germantown. The other teams I named have all played both teams close within 5 points of each other so maybe a little self education by going and looking up the teams I mentioned earlier from district 15 and 16. Your blinders are on and im starting to feel sorry for you

Thanks for your concern, but save your pity.

All I am saying is Jackson SS and White County were both ranked highly, pretty much all season in their classifications. One loss is all it takes in a "go home" game and you are done.

Some of those who lost played weaker schedules, some played hellacious schedules. Either way, a lot of good teams from both ends of the scheduling debate are done for the year.

Your opinion is White County wasn't a top tier team, and that's fine. Mine is they were. Just like SS and Knox Catholic in AA were as well. End result is more than just White County are sitting at home after a Region semi final loss, doesn't mean they weren't very good teams.

  9. In district 15 and 16 Jackson SS would have been 3rd or worse too. Your making it sound like they were world beaters and just got upset out if no where. You making the comment of they wouldn't be 3rd in any district and if anybody things that their ludicrous means you haven't seen a lot of basketball outside of the cumberlands area of tn. When you play a soft schedule it shows comes tourney time and that's what happened. White County had a good team but there are alot of good teams out there and that was proven the other night

Really?. SS would've been 3rd in both those districts?. They were ranked in the Top 3 all year, so I guess I guess only every poll in the state and me are nuts.

    Whatever you say, haha.

  10. LOL - I am sure the story about being tied with 3 seconds left with a team that went 8-7 in a AA district has everyone shaking in their boots. There are several districts where White Co would have probably finished 3rd. Same for Bradley,

Say what you want, that 8-7 team is still playing.

Like I said, White County was a legitimately good team. Without question, the best shooting team in the State.

One sub par performance at this time of year opens you up for the trolls (that would be you).

  11. District 15 and 16 are both division you would have finished 3rd or worse in. memphis east, Germantown, Southwind, white station, and Whitehaven would have gave you fits if Bradley matched up good with you. I would say yall would have a rough time in a knoxville league too since the team that just beat you got beat by 5 knoxville teams. I think your drinking the cool aid if you think it's Ludicrous

I'm not a White County homer by any means. Honestly have zero ties to that program. But those kids can flat out play.

Just because Bradley beat them in a win or go home game doesn't mean they weren't a darn good team.

I don't think they were a Top 5 team in the State, but they were definitely Top 10.

Jackson SS got whipped Tuesday night too in AA, so I guess they would've been 3rd best in a few districts too, right?

One game doesn't make a season.

  12. Anything can happen in these tournaments. These teams play each other many times a year which can be a great equalizer. Plus York had already beat us.

The key will be if York can handle your pressure (which they haven't the last 2 games).

If we can I think York could win by double digits, if not Upperman wins by 15+.

Everyone will think I'm crazy, but I think both are capable of beating the Chattanooga teams.

  13. White County would have probably finished 3rd in District 5AAA.

You are either uninformed or a fool. White County can play with anybody. The flaw is sooner or later in the postseason you are going to run into somebody who could defense the three, limit the drive and slow tempo if they need to.

York had arguably the best chance anybody did to beat them in Jamestown during the regular season. Tie game with the ball, holding for last shot, had a turnover with 3 seconds to play, turned it over and fouled 60 ft from the basket with 0.9 to play. Coach had a double,T and got thrown out. Went from tied with the ball and 3 seconds left to a 5 pt loss.

But White County was 3rd in no district state wide this season. To say otherwise is ludicrous.

  14. How many did Blevins from York have? Great win York!!!

Colton had somewhere between 14-18 I would guess. Made some outstanding passes and had a block on NDs stud late that was unbelievable. He played the best all around game I've seen him play in his career in my opinion.
