Again, I ask you, where did I say it was ok for starters to play the entire game?   Do you think a child should be punished for being a good player, because the opposing player is not as good.  So are you advocating for a team that gets 20 behind, to take out all their starters?   Why even allow starters to play against a team they beat by more than 20 the first time they played?  Why not just make the games, first to 20, then nobody loses by more than 20, and nobody gets their feelings hurt?  Why do you want to punish good players, because your kids can't play?   Do you want to draw the line on rebounds too?  How many is too many, 8, 10?  Steals? Assists?  If your kid had a chance to set a school record, and the coach took them out, you people are the first ones to be running the coach out of town

So stats are more important than developing players for next year. ITS A TEAM SPORT!!!!!!!!! Everybody comes to practice everyday. The best players start and play but when it gets out of hand then coaches need to get his second bunch in and get them some minutes. If its about the team then develop your team not just one or two players. I see it every night, a coach plays his all star in blowouts to get her points. Whats going to happen when the other team decides to sub in and she hits the floor with an ACL tear up 35. ITS A TEAM SPORT!!!!! If your after scoring records then play AAU all summer and count every point you score even in practice NO ONE CARES.......... I say if you come to practice and you made a varsity team then you should get minutes. Because lets face it an injurt can happen at any time and if all you do is cater to your best player then what happens when she goes down. No one will be ready. Its ridiculous to even say leave them in in garbage time.

  2. What is funny is based on this site's strength of schedule Cleveland was ranked as the 25th toughest schedule. Played Cumberland twice, Fulton, Oak Ridge, and two of the three so called weak Single A teams were 25 win teams Meigs and Northview Academy. As said before Rome was not built in a day.

That 2 win season would have been better if they would have played this year's schedule. Especially the Christmas tourney. East ridge, unicoi, then lose to a fair at best Meigs team. That was a strong one SMH! Unicoi and East ridge combined 16-38 that's a Cleveland tourney that was held to get Cleveland 3 wins. I know you can control who they let in it. Rome wasn't built on soft ground EITHER SMH !!!!

  3. No big deal!! If you're planning on dethroning Bradley (LOLOL) good luck!!! Maybe if the same middle school coach coached those girls in HS they might have a chance.I don't think the current coach challenges his players enough. Scheduling is very weak. Maybe wins are more important to him than preparing his team to play AAA. At least looks that way.

  4. Who knows.

It's a popularity contest, it's how many times the kid gets her name in a paper. Guaranteed there will be a young lady somewhere in the state with better numbers than the winner. Doesn't matter what you do just get your name in the paper. Guaranteed that the best defensive player/rebounder with a 4.0 and volunteers at the animal shelter every day won't even get a nomination. All about points and popularity.

  5. I'm with you. It's a down year for the region no matter how you look at it. Fewer standout players as well. Most talent is young and not fully developed yet.

3A wins the region but will not sweep. 3A is down except for Meigs. Oneida wins 4A, should be those 2 in Region championship. Will be lucky to go much farther. Sub-state goes through SG or Northview Academy. Whoever finishes 2nd is officially done. SG is loaded.
  6. Pink, I agree. I am on your side on this one as I have been through this several times. I was only trying to give the Martian a shred of credibility!

No, once you thought about it and done a little research you figured out I was right. Was there basketball 25 years ago? Yes, was there a showcase every weekend no. So I guess college coaches didn't recruit back then. SMH!!!!! It's amazing we had basketball without a showcase. How? Didn't get seen, HOW?

  7. Responsibility is on the Parents! 1st you need to realize that your child is NOT a D1 player! I am a big fan of NAIA D3 JUCO etc! The statement that only 5% of kids are elite enough to play Exposure Tourneys was correct! Then if there are hundreds of teams at the BIG Exposure Events then 95% really should not be there! Question! If Suzie is from Smalltown TN. and is a NAIA level player and is recruited by 3 NAIA level Schools 1 in Illinois 1 in N.Dakata and 1 30mins from home where the College Coach comes to her HS games where will she go? And yes that level College Coaches do recruit HS's regularly! My recommendation if your kid is not one of those 5% is promote your own kid! Email the NAIA Coaches about your kid! Invite to a HS game! If they can play Coaches will come! And yes you will see D1 Coaches usually the assistants at HS games! But do what you feel is best for your child!

Finally some COMMON SENSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope pink reads this.

  8. I would love to know this secret formula that you know that gets kids scholarships while avoiding the travel/exposure circuit. Fact is, You are wrong again. And I hope you don't have a kid that is good enough to play college basketball. Because, if she wants to play and doesn't attend Exposure Events she has a <1% chance of getting signed or even recuited. Furthermore, the statistics show that 93.7% of high school girls players won't & can't play basketball at ANY college level. There is currently about 430,000 high school girl players in America and about 27,000 college girls basketball players. So, you do the math. About 6.3% are gonna make it to play in college. That's it. There is approximately 4,500 girls currently playing TN high school basketball. If 6.3% play in college, that's 284 total or about 70 seniors going to play in college each year from TN.

Wake up man, If you know some kid that wants to play college basketball and they have talent, then give them some good advice.... "Go play travel ball on a team that attends exposure events". It's not that complicated.

Your crazy, I quote "70 seniors gonna play college bball" that's just simply not true. If all you consider college basketball is D1, then your crazy. Oh yea they all don't play in Tennessee man. Just where I live there is 14 seniors signed that I know of. Yea not D1 but still a basketball scholarship. But I forgot that that's below you. SMH! There is a level of basketball for everyone that wants to play.

  9. I can, but I think that naming kids on a website is wrong, maybe you don't. Especially if they're not mine. I'm sure their parents wouldn't appreciate it. 99% of kids can't play D1 and 80% can't play D2 so NAIA, D3 and JUCO gets the rest that want to play. NAIA can and will give athletic scholarships and NO you don't have to play showcases to get one. Again at the end of the day you don't have to play (these money pits) you call showcases to get a scholarship. Especially at the 3rd-10th grade level. I'm sure the tourney directors appreciate your support though.

  10. 3rd-7th grade "Exposure" tournaments are a joke. Most teams this age play in AAU sanctioned tournaments which gives kids an opportunity to see that the world is bigger than whatever town or area that they live in. I am not a tournament director and no doubt they are making big money, but there are tons of kids that benefit. We will have to just agree to disagree here!

Agreed, finally someone with common sense. Parents hear Showcase and automatically think that there will be college coaches there, LOLOL that's simply not true. On some occasions there might be but there are very strict rules on when that is. And if you do a little research it's very easy to find out when that is.

  11. JUCO and D3 is college to....SMH, Just because a kid don't play D1 don't make them any less of a player. At the end of the day it's about the education and I'm pretty sure that a degree from any D3 school would make any player happy. That was a very degrading statement.

  12. It is not financially or logistically possible for college coaches to scout talent at high school games. Remember that the HS season coincides with the college season and college coaches have responsibilities with their schools and teams. The total costs have been highlighted here, but there are thousands of kids that play travel ball and never pay anything. There are sponsorships and ways to work at tournaments to pay for the season. Exposure basketball, although making tournament directors tons of money, also has gotten thousands of kids to college that may not have had that opportunity were it not for basketball.

All exposure tourneys do is make tourney directors rich. That term is thrown around very loosely. Who in their right might has 3,4,5,6,7,8th grade exposure tourneys. RIDICULOUS... I promise they're is never a college coach going to be watching a 5th grader. So please tell me it's all about the kids, SMH!!! Keep giving them your money and they will keep taking it. And by the way thousands of kids go play college ball everyday who has never played in one exposure tourney. So don't tell me that's what you have to do to get a scholarship. And AAU has gotten just as bad with parents paying huge amounts for their kid to play on a team just to watch them sit the bench but win more games. It's all about the money.

  13. Totally agree! Not sure what MartianMan's beef is with exposure events and aau, but the FACTS are that that is where 99% of recruiting occurs!

If 99â„… of recruiting is done there then let's just cancel basketball season and all play showcases lol. RIDICULOUS, again you must be a tournament director.

  14. Where did coach go? Looks like it got to hot for him. Also, having witnessed some of the best of preps tourney I can honestly say that Chattanooga girls basketball is very very very weak. Not bashing any team just saying as a whole. You have to travel north to find good basketball.

    AAA...BRADLEY

    AA...MCMINN CENTRAL

    A...MEIGS

Wouldn't consider these as Chatt area teams but they are by far the three best. Good luck to everyone and Merry Christmas..
