  1. QUOTE(EveryonesFan @ Mar 12 2007 - 06:46 PM) 826409401[/snapback]Hey now lets not get our panties in a wad. The guy did not say anything about west except that he thinks they are gonna win the district. I dont think it is so much west as it is east. It's people like you that take things and blow them way out of proportion. He did not say a word about how great west is. Maybe you are just a little jealous of all the success west has had in sports. Just chill out and stop worrying about west and what people say about east. And how could you be ashamed to say that you are from morristown because of that comment. Maybe you should check what you said. Well anyways back to baseball. I have some good news for people other than Trojan fans. Hazelwood as of right now is out for the year with a ruptured tendon in his ankle. And Wild cannot pitch until atleast April. He can play the field and hit but just not pitch. So he is not gonna be off the mound for too long.

    bow to the canes

  2. 1. Seals knew about the tape. I discussed it with him the day after he told the AD about it. He did not like it. I do not think that I said he was cool with it. All I said was that Seals was aware. He called the AD and it was handled through the Central Office. THIS IS ALL FACT

    2. I think Burke Toney will get the turf as of now.

    3. Brian Trent is a great man.

    4. The West film guy would "practice" filming. He is very thorough. A very devote Christian man and would not do something sneaky like that. Both of his daughters graduated from East.

    5. I am sure that West made a copy of the tape before sending it to East.

    6. I do not think that they will combing the high schools. I was just putting out there what I wish would happen. Morristown would come back together as a community if it happened. I think the 3 high schools may happen eventually.

    7. I do not care what numbers TSSAA has down. Both are right at 1,400 kids with East holding a little edge. West actually had more to start the year, but has changes lately.

  3. all east fans arent jealous just a few im sure if we had the means to wed all give more but u do what u can do some can just do more than others logan has had a good year nuff said bout that i also think we all know east is capable of beating west and obviously west can beat east lots of football before that even happens i will say one thing that has nothing to do with any fans but has to do with the west coaching staff sending your film crew to tape the east home game was one of the worst and most arrogant things ive ever heard of most ppl didnt even know it happened im sure all u had to do was ask im pretty sure our coaches would have given u all the tape u could watch all u had to do was ask not sneak in the back door and then give excuses why u were there other than that i hope we both play back to each other would be a great game and either way a morristown team would be moving on

As an East fan, here is what happened with "Filmgate." The West film guy went to practice at the game since West was off. He did not know that this would be an issue. I saw him there and asked him why he was there. He told me straight up that he was practicing. He feels that he gets rusty from time to time. Coach Seals knew about it and East handled it through CO and got the film back. It did come across as smarmy, but I believe it to be unintentional. The film guy at West would not lie. He is a good man and person. If West had sent the film guy, he would have admitted it. He is a stand up guy.

  4. County Commission meets are quite interesting..But it doesn't really matter to me after this season, since next year you will be able to see me on TV painted orange and white sitting in the Orange Nation, just like I did for the West games this year..

It should still matter. I graduated a long time ago. My wife has to pull me back over the rail at UT every week, but I still care about high school sports and high school students as well. Don't stop caring because you graduate. Be proud! I love as an adult having a middle school, high school, college and pro teams that I care about. I even have a Canadian football team I love!

  5. Well by the time the school got built, no one would be alive that went to the middle school, so it wouldn't matter what the team name is...

    But it's never gonna happen.

That did it. I am running for county commission and school board!!!!...lol.

My platform: Build a mega-school on 160, bring the community back together, new school mascot, keep taxes low, sell bonds to build school, get Wild family involved (just kidding), beat everyone!!!

EDWARD R. MASTERS FOR COUNTY COMMISSION!!!

  6. I'd rather see..

Mascot - Mountaineers...nothing that has to do with Morristown..Nothing remotely to do with Wildcats, Trojans, or weather activity...

Coach - Based on numbers and post-HS success, I'd say Woods...

School - If they were to build a new campus, It would be the best in East TN and would repay itsself in a short period of time.

We don't really have many mountains right here in Hamblen County. The older generation of adults would want something that would be from the past. (Just like East getting the Goose back) You could NEVER go back to Hurricanes. No way Trojans would work. The name Wildcats was used back when there was only 1 middle school in the entire county. It was housed where the Central Office is today.

I agree that it would be the best facility in the state. And the sports would be unreal.

  7. They need to build a middle school field and play freshman and JV games(east at long-reel) and west at west practice field. I agree, they could spend the turff $ on these other options.

The funny thing is how it was never this big of an issue until now. I almost wonder if they are not trying to force us to do something. Could someone have an agenda? Why all of the sudden is this an issue when it wasn't back when I was a student?

  8. Good idea. But I doubt it would ever happen. Too many questions such as ..Mascot? Football Coach? There would also be too many students...East has 5 lunch periods now..West has 4...Either way the school will be really crowded and it's not worth the hassle to put them together

Here you go. I have thought about this for YEARS.

MASCOT: Wildcats (Morristown's Junior High mascot)

COACH: Woods or Hatcher - You could not go wrong with either selection. West wins state a few years ago with some of East's players. A 6'6 WR named Simpson sure would have helped.

There are other schools that have that many kids. It would take a completely new building out on 160. It would be worth it, but they would not even think about trying it.

Today's paper brought up opening 3 schools. I hope they don't do that!

  9. Would this combination create one of the, if not the largest, most populated high schools in Tennessee? I'm not sure, but I don't think there are any school with 3,000 people. Wow! That would be an enormous campus! Can someone enlighten me a little more about this new grass turf?

The local paper had an article about how Burke-Toney, home of Morristown East and West, might receive the same kind of turf that Carson-Newman has. The company has promised a huge discount so that it can be a showcase for other schools in our area. We need it because of how many games are played on the field. With East inproving each year and West always strong, it just adds to the traffic on it.

Jefferson County is not too far from 3,000 if I am not mistaken. There are a few out there I believe.

  10. Well first of all, the term is "Woe is me"..And as for the Blue Ribbon Award, if it were only based on academic merit, I highly doubt East or West could have won it....And I'm not even going to argue with you on the fact about the newspaper..I've talked to East and West graduates..Teachers at West that went to East, and adults I know that went to East, and they even said that East has always been paid more attention to. But ya know, it really doesn't matter, because West hasn't lost a regular season game since I was a sophomore and I could care less if the Tribune ever reported another West score...

Thanks for catching my whoa. (I didn't check what spell check threw up there) I would start pointing out your typos, but that is not what adults do. Childish game. I am not worried about a senior in high school trying to show me up.

Yes, I know of the West High English teacher who always says that East gets more attention and West gets nothing, but the FACTS seem to differ. When the Citizen Tribune has two radio stations covering your games, a sports editor that is a West High graduate, an editor calling the play-by-play on the radio, and Fishman's relatives going to West, it seems to say that you all have the advantage. The thing is that I feel that it is even. Try not to get too caught up in one teacher's vendetta against East.

Brian Trent, the sports editor, has done a great job of keeping it even. If he is showing East more than West, then he must have issues with people from his alma mater. That is not East's fault. I still say Brian does a great job!

If the Tribune was not a touchy subject, I doubt you would have brought it up.

BTW, I have noticed a few t-shirts about East over at West. That goes both ways. I take it as a rivalry.

Just for the record.....PUT THE SCHOOLS BACK TOGETHER!!!

  11. I'm gonna have to agree with what someone else said about canefan72..Pointing out a specific parent is classless..

And about West having their own field...Well, if you've ever read the Tribune, you'd know that God himself went to East High. West is only the #2 football team in the state..And aside from sports, we have students competing for spots at Harvard, Duke, MIT, and other colleges year in and year out. After the East/West game when East's student section was put on the front of the paper, the CT was flooded with calls and complaints. Any outsider reading that paper would never know there were 2 High Schools in Hamblen County. East and West have NEVER been treated equal, and it's been that way since Morristown High School split...And East got to keep the mascot...And I wonder how many of the players that were on the East state championship team back then were zoned for West?

Anyway..West could play inside of the Panther Creek swimming pool and their would be more fans and a better atmosphere than at Burke Toney...

I'm guessing West plays at CNC on Friday night.

This is really funny. Most East people call the Tribune the Trojan Tribune. Let's just be honest and look at it from an adult's perspective. The reason that the East kids were on front of the paper is because East was the home team this year. Try to remember that West has 2 radio stations that cover their games and both are owned by..........THE CITIZEN TRIBUNE. The sports editor, a friend of mine, is a graduate of.........MORRISTOWN WEST!!! Please look at the facts before spouting off things about the paper without knowing the facts.

Please do not be so blinded by misinformation as to not see that East has students competing for just as many prestigious awards as West. We have kids all over the place as well. Young man all you just did in that diatribe was to act like West is superior to anything East has. If that was your goal, then you should be proud. I have been heavily involved with both schools and I promise you that they are both great. They are different in their own ways, but you can get a great education from either. (I have had relatives attend both) The Blue Ribbon Award was no fluke.

If East had the winning tradition in football that West currently has, you can bet your bottom dollar that we would have just as great a crowd as you all presently enjoy. We do not have that tradition of excellence and do not enjoy the fruits from it.

Just please do not spout off the West High "whoa is me" mantra that so many like to play. Both schools are better than that!

  12. 3. West was upset with East for holding their frosh game last week before West played Cherokee. The field was in terrible shape for the Trojans game. I do not blame West for being upset over that. (Please notice that a Cane fan said this) Varsity has to come first.

Hugh Clement made that decision to play. East has no say. The Asst. director of schools made the call.

72, I have it on good authority that the West coaching staff blamed East and not Mr. Clement. Yes, he is the one with final say, but West felt that we should have pulled out of that one on our own. I know that Don Woods called East upset over it.

Now on Friday it was 100 percent Mr. Johnson's call on if East and Boone played that game. He told me that himself. He and the athletic director made the call.

I wonder if West would have played if the roles were reversed? If their freshmen were undefeated, would they have played?

  13. Just thought that I would share some information that I had gathered this weekend....

    1. West has claimed that they will play at CNC this Friday against Unicoi County. It is not definite, but many of the higher ups in the school system believe that this will be the case. It costs 5 thousand to play there. Kills concessions for the band programs

    2. East will play at Burke-Toney if this is the case. East believed that they would have played on Saturday afternoon until West claimed CNC for their game.

    3. West was upset with East for holding their frosh game last week before West played Cherokee. The field was in terrible shape for the Trojans game. I do not blame West for being upset over that. (Please notice that a Cane fan said this) Varsity has to come first.

    4. Burke-Toney is used for ALL of the following games: East Varsity Football, East JV Football, East Freshmen Football, West Varsity Football, West JV Football, West Freshmen Football, East Girls Soccer, West Girls Soccer. This is just the fall schedule. The spring brings both East Boys Soccer and West Boys Soccer. Do not forget that members of Hamblen County can rent out the stadium for special events for around $150. The system does try to keep people off of it as much as possible. They will not let the East Band practice on the field. It is a bad situation.

    5. All Hamblen County residents need to look at Sunday's Tribune. Now we are talking about creating a third high school again. Their options include renovating the two and making them larger or creating a third. If they decide to create a third, then more football fields will become a must.

I would prefer that we put them back together. Most research says that 3 would be best, but they do not live here and see how East/West divides the town.

Here is what I would love to see done. Go out on 160 and build a school that would hold 4,000 students for growth. Name it Hamblen County High School and let the mascot be the Wildcats like the old middle school used to have. They wouls need to pick totally new colors. (No orange and no crimson) Bring the community back together. In my humble opinion, this would do much more for the community than most in power realize.

  14. Tee is a solid player. I coached him at Meadowview and I just love the kid. Great attitude and a real funny guy. Last week against GV he ran the option about as good as it can be run and scored twice. I think he also returned a kickoff for a TD. I played with his dad at East. The only thing that might hurt him at the next level is his height but other than that, he has got it all.

I think they are calling up:

    Tee Howell qb/s

    Dee Dee Johnson rb/cb

    Demetrius Clark wr/cb

    Matt Helton MLB/fb

    Tavin Blanton rb/cb

    Jared Broyles rb/lb

    KJ Kelley Olb/fb

There are some great athletes on the Fr team. You add those kids to last year's undefeated frosh team and East will be looking good over the next few years. I know that there are some uncomfortable coaches in the area that are watching our frosh teams closely.

  15. in between the hashes is solid mud makes everything interesting tho........ just wonderin if east beats boone how will east and west have home field in playoffs

If East wins and is the number 2 seed, here is the scenario. West gets first choice and will probably take the Friday night game. East would then play on SATURDAY afternoon. This is what I have been told by my sources. That is the day of the UT/LSU game and I am hoping that they do not play at night. This is if and only if the Canes beat Boone. I am betting that this is a good game.

  16. You need to read the earlier comments. I was speaking about the baseball field not the football field. I agree that the football field needs a new surface and did not say anything different. Funny how some people come in on half the conversation convinced they have all the answers!

My bad Leectn. So many different topics going on that I got a little confused. (Happens with old age) No reason to get snippy about it.

    GO CANES!

  17. How much is East putting up for the field? Nothing, the tax payers of Hamblen County are paying for that field and East is going to use it. It is not, nor has it ever been East's field.

It is Morristown High School's field. Both schools just borrow it from time to time. I am so sick of this argument. It gets so very old. Put the turf in and have MORRISTOWN put at midfield and call it a day. THe field is at the site of Morristown High School. Morristown High failed to exist after 1969. All the blue hairs need to get a grip and the kids need to stop worrying about it. The argument is not going to get a new stadium at West. Be happy that we have a great stadium with hopefully a new field to make it the crown jewel stadium in East Tennessee. If there is a better one, I do not know of it. There are some nice stadiums, but there aren't any that have the full package that we would have!

  18. A friend from Greeneville just called and said Greenway(the quarterback) got kicked off the team today, does anyone know if this is true!!!! If true this is huge

Man, that would be huge. Sad if true. I have been told that he has good talent. I was looking forward to seeing him play!

  19. Anyone whom is in education natuarlly thinks they are the most intelligent in any arguement........wrong. Go to wal mart, buy something for 2 dollars and then go to the register and complain about it being 2 dollars as priced and clearly marked. SAME PRINCIPAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I do think teachers are underpaid but I also think they like to point it out waaaaaaaaaaay too much. If there is one proffesion that is underpaid, it is nursing. That is why there is a huge shortage.

I will not argue that the field of nursing has a strong need for people in the profession. I have many friends in that profession and they tell me about the shortage. I know that Carson-Newman is doing its absolute best to help remedy the problem. WSCC is doing its part as well.

Yes, educators know what the going rate is for the profession. The people who point out that teachers are underpaid are the unions in which are extremely vocal. HCEA is always in the news and their goal, just as every union in every business in America, is to get better pay/wages for the employees.

Please remember that most of the teachers that I know went into the business to make a difference. Money was way down the totem pole. Many of the most vocal are the ones who only went into it for their summers off. I can at least vouch for my family members who are in the profession. All of them want to make a difference. I felt that I had to defend teachers like my parents.

Now let's get back to the football. I never meant to get this far into this topic.

Did anyone notice the rumor that Greenway has been kicked off of the Green Devils football team. Boy, that would make a huge difference Friday night!

    Go Canes!

  20. I agree that teachers are underpaid but it is showing ignorance to complain about it. I knew what my job paid before I took it and can't really complain and teachers should know what they will make as well. Stop crying about it. As far as "if you can read this" junk, I will thank god, mom, dad, soldiers, doctors, bus drivers, electricians, text book manufactures, etc. as well as teachers for being able to read. Teachers should thank parents for having children for allowing them the chance to have a job to teach someone to read. It goes on and on. stop crying about it. THIS IS A BOARD ABOUT FOOTBALL.

I know that this is a football board, but you were the one who made the statement with BOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOO in reference to educators. I feel that your statement was ridiculous. I still think it is. You show me an 8 am-3 pm teacher and I will show you a teacher that is not worth anything. Most good teachers take their jobs home with them.

I am glad that you had teachers in your list somewhere of those you thank. God is also a very important part of it. As for thanking the parents, I agree. The teachers that have students who actually want an education should thank those parents.

Believe me, I am not crying over teacher salaries. They have improved greatly over the past 20 years, but every teacher deserves at least a standard of living raise every year. Your response was cold and disrespectfuol of the profession.

ANYWAY, I believe I said that in the end the issue was about safety. That has not changed. I pray that the school system can get this thing changed. It would be what was best for the city and county.

  21. You are the perfect example of a trojan fan. When that field is located NEAR west hogh, then you can say it is yours. By the way, get used to being the 2nd team in town for the next several years. Write it down.

OK, so this has gone from fixing a problem that we have at Burke-Toney to bringing up teacher salaries and then acting like educators do not deserve to be paid more. And then finally we have to get in the obligatory East/West shot.

First off, the stadium playing surface is atrocious. It is absolutely a horrible disgrace to Hamblen County and the athletes of the area. This is something that needs to be fixed and fixed as soon as possible.

I am going to ignore the ignorant remark about teachers and their pay. If you can even read this, then thank an educator. Many people in my family have been educators and I will not go on a tirade about that here. If anyone wants to debate this, let me know. I promise you that you will lose the debate. Facts are on the side of the educators.

This is so typical to turn this into East/West. I am used to hearing this crap from kids and the fact is that it all started with parents who never grew up. I am sorry, but life is not all about the East/West rivalry. You want a rivalry then look at college sports. High school rivalries are small potatoes. East/West only highlights what is wrong with our county. I wish that they would put the schools back together. South Cumberland has become the thing that has divided this town for far too long.

In the end, the whole thing is about safety. The safety of the student-athletes is the the number 1 priority. I bet that even the teachers would say that safety of the student-athletes should come before teacher salaries. Most teachers are very realistic about money and what is important.

  22. That is a great question...........If it comes up, I can see East getting the field first since well.......it actually is their field. Maybe someone from Morristown can help us with this question.

Here is how it works. Whoever is the higher seed gets priority. If West is number 1 and East is number 2, then East plays on Thursday night and West on Friday. This has never happened, but it very well could this year.

It is a terrible situation, but the county will not build another stadium. They need to put the turf that is at CNC in at Burke-Toney. There is way too much action on that field. Both high schools, bands, all middle school games, all soccer games, and anyone that wants to pay the price in the community to get the field. I think it is only 150 bucks to get the field for an event.
