What a great coaching job by Greeneville Coach Annette Watts. Lost 4 starters from last year and 96% of the Greeneville offense - and returns to the State Tournament. Not many people outside of the team and coaches saw this happening. She schedule a tough schedule every year and it obviously pays off.

Those Lady Greene Devils get the big win over a very talented David Crockett team. Not many people gave Greeneville much of a chance since they lost 5 Seniors from last year. This years team bought in totally - and Coach Watts did an outstanding coaching job!

here’s a few…
James Buchanan (North Greene)
Matt Birchfield (Cloudland)
Brandon Broyles (Unicoi, has them much improved over recent years)
Katie Moore (Gatlinburg Pittman)
Brooke Shelley (Northview)
Stephen Gregg (South Greene)
Some of the ones listed here have lots of wins - but look at the strength of schedule. Also - great players make coaches look good. Look at what a coach does with average players. Buchanan at NG does a great job. The Grainger coach (Bishop) does a great job. Greeneville’s coach (Watts) is tough but she does a great job and has a tough schedule each year. The retired Jefferson Co. Coach (Sinard) who is now Cocke Co. Assistant is a very good coach. Birchfield at Cloudland does a good job - but I think they need to play a tougher schedule.

Southside looked much better after the first game. They had a really good win over Knox Webb. They played a really tough team in the Championship and lost. Finishing runner up in the Ladies Classic is impressive.

Greeneville girls got a dominant win over SG - beating them by 20. The Adkins girl for Greeneville played really well. If she can continue to play like that, they will win their District and be a challenge in the Region. NG has had a good tournament - Bearden just has too much firepower for them. Schedule doesn’t get any easier for SG as they play Crockett next week. SG will be ok in their District but with Alcoa and GP in their Region - that will be a problem.

How does CD even give sg a game? I don't understand
CD had a17 point lead and should have won. CD totally outplayed SG. I couldn’t believe what I was watching.

Which Florida Tournament?
Actually I was wrong. They are not playing Anywhere this week. Their coach was at the gym yesterday watching.

Heard today that David Crockett was invited to this year’s tournament and chose to go to Florida. Obviously Crockett didn’t want to face the tough competition in the Ladies Classic. They had never been invited so I can’t believe they turned it down.

The NG won was huge for them. Oak Ridge looked very slow and had no rhythm on offense. NG played good defense. This was not a typical OR team.

No. I watched them lose to Cocke Co. at the AJ Ladies Bank Classic. Upperman looks nothing like the teams they have had the last 3-4 years. Very young, didn’t shoot well at all from 3. Also, didn’t have a strong point guard like they normally do. They did appear to be very young and o am sure they will improve as the season goes on because they have a great Coach.

David Crockett moves down from 4A to 3A and will be in District 1/Region 1. They were very young this year and will make an impact in 3A in Northeast TN immediately.

Great games on Saturday at the BCAT All Star event.
In 4A - the West All Stars beat East All Stars by 2. It was a good game.
In 3A - the East All Stars were clicking on all cylinders and defeated the West All Stars by 25. The East Team looked really good.
In 2A/1A - the AA All Star team defeated the 1A team in a big way. The AA All Star team also looked really good.
I didn't get a chance to see the Private school division games. This was a really great event.

Lyon’s (#4) is a heck of a ball player. I’m don’t think she has any D1 offers but hopefully that changes after yesterdays game.
Lawson is a heck of a ball player too, where is she committed?
I know a D3 school in GA has offered her. I also think an NAIA offer. I think she could definitely play at the D2 level.

Since the refs are evaluated during the season and we have multiple referee regions across the state, send the best evaluated refs (evaluated by TSSAA & through a Coaches' survey) and let that identified team work as a unit up there on the games where a team from their area isn't involved. It seems like they just throw 3 refs together most games from the pool of associations and I assure you that each Region of refs call games differently. That's why it sometimes seems that 1 ref is ruining a game, because that's how they call it in the area of the state which may be different in all of the other areas. At least if you had a ref 3 person unit for that game, both teams would adjust their style of play to fit the way the game is being called. Don't know of a good answer really.
The “throwing 3 refs together” has been terrible. First 2 days have had inconsistent calls by referees. TSSAA needs to go back to bringing “crews” in - refs that have worked together all hear. The Bradley vs Bearden game had almost 25 fouls in the first half. Crazy.

Here we go again somebody else blaming the refereeing instead of what actually happened. I don’t guess you were complaining in the first quarter or the second quarter were you? No I don’t think so when it was going your way but now when you get beat, it’s always somebody else’s fault. It could never be that the other team was just better.
I am not blaming the refs - but there were 2 calls against Bailey where she drew a charge and both were called blocks. Could have made a difference had she not had to sit so much - or it could have been the same. Greeneville didn’t get any calls. Simple as that.

Those refs didn't know what a charge was. They missed 5 of them!!!
The red told Greeneville players she was standing too straight up on the charge and called a block??!! Terrible call.

Refs call for whose got momentum at the Glass House and always have. We have had a few bad officials but West Tennessee has some good one’s but they won’t be there and it is a shame they won’t. I don’t know where they get these guys up there.
Why no West Tennessee refs?

Well once again Cleveland is out coached by a smaller team. Even though the refs tried to help them, in the end didn’t happen. Greenville took better shots while Cleveland looked at what was their best shot individually. Cleveland with the talent they have should’ve won by 15 or more but lost. Bad leadership! Only worried about individuals!!!! Cleveland will have a good record only because of what they play!!!!!
Greeneville had 2 starters go to the bench early in 1st half with 2 fouls and the starting point guard go the bench mid 2d qtr with 2 fouls. Cleveland had some starters with 2 fouls in 1st half and their coach left them in and they picked up 3rd foul - I was shocked he left them in - it was obvious the referees were calling the game tight. The Cleveland fans yelled and complained the entire game about the referees but fouls were being called both ways - and an obvious over the back call on Cleveland was called with 6 seconds remaining & the call was reversed and called on Greeneville. Cleveland is very talented but Greeneville outplayed them as a team.

I’ll take YORK against the field. Team better than them in 2A would have to be awfully good.
I have seen York play and Alcoa play. I would take Alcoa. They have 5 starters who could each score 20 any given night. 3 have already signed to play at the next level.

Looks like Greeneville took one on the chin tonight
Shot less than 30%. After 3 it was 42-37 and Greeneville scored 3 points in 4th qtr. Just one of those nights when the shots didn’t fall and it impacted Greeneville in other ways. Alcoa is a really good team and Macie Ridge shot the ball well tonight. Alcoas starting 5 is very talented.

I was thinking Greeneville was down because the only beat a not very good McMinn Co team 62-20
Greeneville played terrible against McMinn - and McMinn shot the ball really well that night. Greeneville pulled out the win by 2
-
McMinn co. played pretty well against Greeneville yesterday but looked awful against Coffee Co. today. McMinn could not stop CC inside game - and then McMinn would kick to the 3 point line and hit a bunch.
Bradley Central has all the pieces to have a great season. Greeneville competed well for 3 quarters but could not sustain it. Kimora Fields - a freshman for BC - is a beast and will only get better.

I believe SS and Upperman could have a rematch in the state tournament this year. Page has looked impressive early and Greenville along with White County also have been playing good basketball. Upperman plays in the toughest district with White County and the region has Page in it where other teams have a much easier path to the glass house. It will be a very interesting season with good basketball
Greeneville will have a big challenge this Saturday when they play At Bradley Central. I hope that the Lady Greene Devils can stay with the Bearettes.
Greenville vs Upperman

It will be a defensive battle most likely. I hope the Upperman team that played in the Ladies Classic at Christmas is the team that shows up - lol - but I know that they are rolling now and playing much better. Greeneville relies on its defense - and it all starts with the point guard Shaw. Coach Watts has done a heck of a coaching job this year because no one expected this.
