That is because the privates can recruit anyone they want without any rules, while the public schools have very strict rules.
Ok Mr. 2 posts, come back when you have a slight understanding of the rules....the TSSAA rules, not the ones you've made up in your head.
-
money and greed rule.
lazy and stupid people whine.

The TSSAA voted 5-4 to not split so now the privates can just keep on recruiting and keep having an unfair advantage. The public schools need to start their our athletic association!
If you pay any attention to the TSSAA, you would have seen where Childress announced that the last 8 recruiting violations were committed by public schools. I know that's hard for pubs to wrap their head around that when it doesn't conform to a good story. You're backwoods opinion (not fact) are way off base.
-
It would not help you if the TSSAA talked about open enrollment. Lake Co is an open enrollment school. Look at you on line board policy under the "students" section. Policy 6.204 titled "attendance of non-resident student". You don't have a leg to stand on.
Having said that I sympathize with your situation. I know you guys are losing athletes to other schools and very rarely gaining any.
I feel bad for you. This is a perfect example that all open zone schools are not the same, just like privates. Lake Co and Alcoa are open zone....no comparison. People want to complain about privates like CPA (Looking at you Lewis County AD) when you have far more privates like Mt Zion and Webb in Bellbuckle out there.
I say all privates and Open zone schools be lumped together and let them play.
-
Soooooo, that Childress man pretty much said if he starts looking into the problem of recruiting, he'd be coming after the public's also....Is that supposed to scare off the debate and cause all to turn a blind eye to the problem? Just found that interesting.
What problem? Childress has clearly stated that the last 8 recruiting violations have been committed by public schools, NOT private. The open zone schools are recruiting and there will be changes.

How many postseason games has Maryville had against private schools?
Don't know.....You tell me. Also tell me how many Alcoa has beat in the playoffs so we have a full understanding or this perceived advantage privates have. Tell CAK how much better they are then Alcoa
-
Since Maryville is open zoned, they have the exact same advantage as privates. They can recruit from the same territory.
It's people like you that whine about privates yet ignore the same advantage open zones do that loose credibility. Can't have it both ways.
-
a "perceived" competitive advantage? 20 years of results, and it's not clear?
Tell the opponets of Maryville and Alcoa (open zones) how big of an advantage they've had over the past 20 years.
-
Putting 25 schools ahead of the other 350.
I agree, the open zone schools are selfish and ruining TSSAA
-
Just saw a breakdown on Twitter.......
Against split: Woodard, McAdams, McCullough, Black, Reynolds
For Split: Tatum, Gilbert, Lutrell, Turner

It's time to merge D1 & D2 back together in the TSSAA for athletics.
Football, Basketball, Softball, Volleyball, Soccer & Baseball
1A Small public schools with no private schools or magnet schools
2A Public schools, private schools that DO NOT offer financial aid & magnet schools
3A Public schools, private schools that offer financial aid & private schools that do not offer financial aid and magnet schools
4A Public schools, private schools that offer financial aid, private schools that do not offer financial aid & magnet schools
All individual sports (cross country, wrestling, track & field, golf, etc...) shall have everyone placed in one division
Where do you place the open zone schools? When Childress comes back in Sept this will be on the table under as a "policy change to improve fair play"
-
No other vote apparently other than adding private school reps.
They also voted to allow priavtes to be represented on the board
-
If the D1 privates are staying in, they should have some sort of representation on the board. The TSSAA profits from them just as they do the publics.
TSSAA did vote and the privates will now have representation on both boards.
-
What an arrogant post. Get a clue!
I though it was spot on.....how is it wrong?
-
This is to bad as you will now have most of the D1 schools and the larger D2 schools upset. The only good thing is everyone is now mad at the Board of Control.
Why not now just place all the schools back together in four divisions for football?
Because Lewis County has to play for first place every year....or at least that's what their AD claims when he whined to the TSSAA.
-
"It'll never end!" BINGO!
By the way, I would disagree that Lewis County looks like a bunch of crybabies.
You have to look at the situation from their perspective. I can understand their frustration.
First, they are open zone so they can get players from the exact same streets as private schools.
Second, Yes they do look like crybabies.....have the teams who have had to play Maryville gone to the TSSAA and begged to have their team moved out of district so they don't have to "play for second in the district"? Only LC has done this....shame on them and LC for having this joker represent them.
-
Looks like the Lewis County punk lost his vote. I'm sure he'll find someway to claim that the TSSAA "is not fair" to the triving metropolis of Honewald.
-
Apparently the BOC is not representative of the schools in this state with this vote as the majority of schools across the state are for the split. Shame on them.
Agreed, not a single private had a vote in this.
-
The tea leaves suggest that when the next reclassification period occurs, Division II is going to include every private school in the State of Tennessee. The vote isn't until tomorrow, but I will be out of the country, so I figured I would write a pre-emptive note to our likely new members.
Dear new DII member institution,
Welcome to our classification! Unlike your previous league opponents, we look forward to competing against you. I thought I would take a couple minutes to tell you how you can expect to be treated in your new league.
We will:
- Respect and congratulate you if you beat us in an athletic competition
- Work hard to provide you with a stiff challenge every time you take the field or court instead of challenging your legitimacy through legislative avenues
- Give you the benefit of the doubt that you did not recruit your players
- Graciously welcome you to our campuses, just as we welcome the DI schools that are still willing to play us, and
- Battle you on the fields of friendly strife instead of waging a war of words in the media.
We will not:
- Refuse to play you because of a perceived competitive advantage you may hold
- Levy recruiting violations against you when you win championships
- Exclude you from league-wide decisions that impact you
- Complain about "playing for second place" when one of your teams builds a dynasty, or
- Water down our league by adding new classifications each time a perceived inequity comes to light.
Best of luck you finish your DI tenure and prepare for your public-school-imposed switch to Division II. We look forward to competing against you for championships, even in contests where you'll be favored to win.
Sincerely,
A DII supporter
Well said

That's not accurate. DII schools will still be bound by TSSAA rules, as they are now. They could still get reported and sanctioned.
But where you are correct -- if all private schools are kicked out of DI, they may be inclined to start their own league altogether. With so many new schools joining the old-guard DII schools, there would now be enough teams to financially and logistically support a new association. And if that happened, DI publics would have no way to sanction schools who chose to recruit.
My scenario is under a full split which takes privates away from any TSSAA punishment. This is why the TSSAA will not vote for a full split. TSSAA knows they would loose an arms race against privates so they wanna keep them close but not to close.
-
So, recruit?
100% correct. If there's a split you'll have coaches, students, parents, ect at a middle school game with their private school colors and letters on........there will be nothing a public school coach can do.
-
Complete split so the privates can take full advantage of all their resources.
-
I understand that the article speaks of CPA and LC, but what of the other private school issues. Maybe the LC AD should sit out this vote but I don't believe it will make a difference in the final vote. I read were Columbia Academy signed a deal with under armor and their players can get an undisclosed discount from Under Armor. They may not "recruit" but this is a selling point. Just want to know what others thought about this?
Yes he should sit the vote out but he has stated he will not. That's not uncommon.....if a tiny country town private school like CA gets this you know the Ensworth's, MBA's, BGA's, ect receive it too.
-
Bruh....privates don't even have a zone. No-zone and open zone are not the same thing. 90% of the time, you can go to any public school you want if you're willing to move there or pay the extra taxes.
I personally don't care if they split or not. Alcoa is 21-7 against privates in the playoffs, losing to CAK and David Lipscomb twice and to Brentwood Academy, Goodpasture and CPA once. Alcoa has also BEATEN all of the aforementioned schools at least once as well.
It sure wasn't last year when you beat CPA in the playoffs.
Did Rankin learn about the forward pass the summer?
